Here's a taste of what you missed (with audio almost as bad as the New Orleans House of Blues') of the current lineup of Zappa Plays Zappa featuring Dweezil Zappa. I wish I could find a better video of the current band but this gives you an idea at least of how fabulous they are. This video is from Minneapolis a week earlier. Suzy Creamche-, uh I mean Shelia the keyboard/saxophone player is, uh, I mean, her playing was hot. Yeah, whatever. Really, the show was an incredible display of musicianship as they toured the history of Frank Zappa from the early Mothers to the last years. Dweezil is an incredible guitarist, the band is virtuoso and the arrangements are just about perfect. As Loki went up to the stage after to tell Dweezil, poppa would be proud. They finished the New Orleans show with a wild Willy The Pimp so if you missed it (fool) this is as close as you'll get. At least today you get you your minimum daily requirement of Vitamin Z but ask yourself, have you been getting any lately? No, Zappa, you moron. Never mind.

Bonnaroo Festival Announces More Acts...again!

I'm starting to see an emerging pattern here... and it seems like every festival is jumping on the bandwagon. Nonetheless, it IS that time of the year, and all these Festivals ought to be sprucing up their lineups to bring in the peeps... and the $$$.
One thing is for sure, they aren't making it easy on those last minute opportunists who are trying to weed the weaker festivals and settle on a winner.

Bonnaroo announced their lineup's latest round of additions:

Tiesto, Stephen Marley, Newton Faulkner, Money Mark, Rogue Wave, The Wood Brothers, and The Coup.

For those that haven't been keeping up to date, the previous round included:

Cat Power, Zappa Plays Zappa, The Disco Biscuits, MSTRKRFT, Chromeo

Additions Made To Bonnaroo Lineup

Chromeo, Cat Power, MSTRKRFT, Zappa Plays Zappa, and The Disco Biscuits have been added to the already huge lineup for the 2008 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, which will be taking place June 12-15 in Manchester, TN. Tickets for Bonnaroo are already on sale and can be purchased here.

Rothbury Festival Comes out of Nowhere!

Ever since the release of the Coachella 2008 lineup, I've been reeling and writhing in agony just waiting for a better festival to present itself. Then out of no where the Rothbury Festival arrives... and... furthers my fall into a sad sad musical depression.

The Coachella forum has been rumoring this mystery festival for a little while now, and it seems like there are plenty of people out there just like me just waiting with baited breath for something better to come our way. I'm glad to see I'm not the only opportunist. And whats that shit they say about how idealists never succeed?! I won't believe it!!

Either way, it doesn't look like this is going to be THE festival I've been hoping for though... but the lineup is pretty decent, just not quite enough for me to take the bait. Seems that the longer I wait the more my hopes on Lollapalooza, Sasquatch and the All Points West Festival seem to grow.

Det har vært gode tider for norske Zappafans i det siste, og det vil det forhåpentligvis fortsette å være.

Dweezil Zappa og hans band besøkte Stavanger, Bergen og Oslo i begynnelsen av oktober. 11. og 12. oktober spilte Oslofilharmonien verker av Frank Zappa. Og 10. oktober arrangerte Jono El Grande Zappa-vorspiel/foredrag/event på Café Art'é.

Norske medier var flinke til å forbigå Zappa Plays Zappa-konsertene i stillhet, bortsett fra Aftenposten, som klinte til med en artikkel om ting som er oppkalt etter Zappa, forhåndsomtale av Oslo-konserten og en anmeldelse av den samme. Studvest anmeldte konserten i Bergen og ga den en C fordi enkelte av anmelderens favorittlåter manglet. Bergens Tidende anmeldte også den konserten.

I kunnskapsprogrammet Kvitt eller dobbelt kunne vi nylig oppleve noe så uvant som en ung dame som digger Zappa. Og ikke bare det, men hun er et menneske som har peiling på Zappa, noe som også er ganske sjeldent å se. Emilie Magdalena de Rohan Birkeland (16) kom til siste runde, der et jernteppe hindret henne i å forlate studio med toppremien på 48.000 kroner. Likevel skal hun ha skryt for innsatsen. Jeg har møtt oldinger som utgir seg for å være Zappafanatikere, som neppe kunne svart riktig på halvparten av de spørsmålene Emilie tok på strak arm. Glimrende!
