Until I saw it on the television a couple days ago, I had totally forgotten that trampoline was an o

Until I saw it on the television a couple days ago, I had totally forgotten that trampoline was an official Olympic sport. But it was right there on NBC, so it must be an important event.

My co-worker Chris and I always used to speculate on what sport we, as out-of-shape, 30-plus-year-old journalists, would have the best chance of qualifying in for the Olympics, winter or summer. I don't recall the conversations verbatim, but I'm certain curling was always in the mix at the end.

(For what it's worth, we also used to discuss forming a rock band from those in the newsroom, which always included Chris on the triangle.)

In our conversations, trampoline never came up. I think that's mainly because it's a new sport, added in 2004 maybe? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. But it's also because trampoline is pretty damn hard.

I watched the competition, and it was essentially gymnastics ... performed on a trampoline. The athletes spend two minutes, maybe, just bouncing, getting up to the height needed for their routines. And then there are lots of flips and twists and turns and moves that look a lot like things you see on the vault or the floor exercise.

But once upon a time, I was an Olympic trampoline hopeful.

A family down the street where I grew up bought a trampoline. All the neighborhood kids were allowed to play on it, provided they had a permission slip signed by their parents absolving the owners of said trampoline of any liability.

This was the first obstacle to achieving my Olympic dreams as a trampolinist. My mother was religiously, morally, fundamentally and anally opposed to me, or my sister, also an Olympic hopeful, setting foot on that death machine. Finally, however, she relented and we joined the fun.

In the olden days of the 1980s, the trampoline routines I experienced were far less complex than what I've seen in Beijing. They consisted of the butt bounce, the knee bounce, the flip from the knees, the standing flip and the back flip.

But there were other trampoline events I've not yet seen in the Olympics. Like dodge ball on the trampoline. Throwers would take their positions on each side of the trampoline and try and pick off one of the dozen or so people crammed onto the trampoline with a Nerf football. Great game. Not sure why this one isn't in the Olympics.

Another was tackle-the-man-with-the-football on a trampoline. This provided another setback for my Olympic hopes. In the act of recovering a loose football, another competitor jumped on my wrist, breaking it, costing me not only months of trampoline time, but a season of baseball as well.

The broken arm resulted in a temporary ban from the trampoline, instituted by my mother. The ban was lengthened when I got kicked in the mouth on the trampoline, where I wasn't supposed to be, chipping my two front top teeth and resulting in a visit to the dentist.

After some time, everything calmed down, and one summer day, I was on the trampoline with the two girls who lived there and their friend, who I'll call Becky ... mainly because that's her name. While on the trampoline, Becky managed to land near one of the corners, her foot slipping between the bar and the mat. Her leg slipped all the way through, she fell off and her leg snapped.

Somehow, despite being six feet away, I was blamed. "He pushed her," they said. There were three of them and one of me. Never trust girls. But that's a whole other discussion. Needless to say, another trampoline banishment followed, this time from the owners. Like Shoeless Joe, I got hosed.

By this time, I was getting up there in age, as kids on trampolines go, and my window to become a trampoline star was quickly closing.

But before you begin to question what if ... what if he hadn't been injured? ... what if Becky hadn't fallen? ... what if little girls weren't liars? ... just know, there was a bigger obstacle to my trampoline glory.

I was a scardy cat.

As God is my witness, I've never done a flip or a twist or a cartwheel ... or anything ... on a trampoline. I couldn't then, and I can't now. Never learned. Never even tried. And I'm not gonna try now.

I guess curling is still my best shot.

I am less than enthused by the limited coverage of the Olympics in Peru. What’s the point of h

I am less than enthused by the limited coverage of the Olympics in Peru. What's the point of having cable down here if the only channel of Olympic coverage I get is a local antennae station?

In the U.S. I was spoiled enough to watch the Olympics on several channels and choose the sports that I wanted to watch.

It hasn't been much fun MISSING the Olympics from the Opening Ceremony to the Sporting Events and to what will be the final Closing Ceremony.

Fortunately, today I was privileged enough to see a somewhat interesting event...Gymnastics Trampoline. For the 10 minutes that I watched it I was able to witness some very talented athletes that made twisting, flipping and twirling look like second nature and some nervous athletes (*cough*"Portugal"*cough*) just eat it.

The most entertaining part of this event wasn't so much the athletes, but rather the judges. Who knew that judges could be so entertaining?! I'm not talking about scandalous scoring, no, no, that is reserved for the Winter Olympics, but just watching their heads bob up and down, up and down, up and down, tracking the athletes was the entertaining bit.

(You know, the same kind of shameless pleasure that you get when you pretend like you're going to throw a ball or a stick for your dog to fetch.)

Since Youtube is cracking down on "Copyrighted" material, meaning 2008 Olympic footage is a no-go, I decided to share what Youtube videos I could scrounge up to share a little bit of the fun with you.

(That is if you haven't been watching the Olympics on the 5 channels of Olympic coverage that they have in the States.)

And Parents, if your kids like jumping around on the trampoline like monkeys, let them. It may just garner them an Olympic Medal one day. Either that or they'll have a great career with La Tarumba.

I have new friends.
I love getting new friends. It is funness.
And I'm trying to get another song today and it's just not working very well. But oh well.
And I have new friends!! Yay!!!

Nothing super exciting to tell yous, I guess.
Just new friends and all that joyous stuff.
I find it sort of sad that I get so happy about that. I mean, I do have very few friends, like real friends that I can talk to for hours. Well, hours on IM.
I like those sort of people, they are fun.
I need all my friends to be like that. I have three of them on right now.
Scott was on earlier but he had to go. He said that he will most likely come back after he's done though. Yay!
Someone else is on, but they're always on and aren't very talkative anyway - only in short bursts. It can be annoying, but I'm learning to just ignore it.
And Derek is on, and he's freaking hilarious. It's pretty great.
And then my two new friends.
See, I'm wonderful.

I told you!!!!

I'm really hungry, but I don't feel like going and eating lunch because I don't want a sandwich and I don't want to cook macaroni and cheese cuz I'll have to do that dishes. You know how annoying that is?
The ONE reason I want school back - yummmay lunch foods!!! Yes, my school has good food for lunch. I love it. Don't mock me, it's true.

Oh my god!
Did you know that there is trampolines in the Olympics?
Scott told me about it and I WOULD NOT believe him. He's like yes there is and I was like NO THERE ISN'T!!! I don't know why, but I got WAY too worked up over that. But I swear, there wasn't - not like I watch the Olympics but I swear that there wasn't trampolines.
Don't worry though, there is trampolines in the Olympics.
I googled it and everything.
Scott wasn't lying. And I thought he was. I was pissed-off at him for it too....That he kept saying yes when I was saying no. Not pissed-off like I normally am. More like annoyed pissed-off. But still.

So anyway, what else.....
I don't really know.
I could come up with something else.
Oh ya!
I am a mother fucking speed demon on the keyboard.
I came up with that cuz Derek said that I typed fast and I said no not really and he said yes you do admit it and then I said that and it was funny.

I think I'm done.
Me thinks.
I don't know.
I'll probably be back later.
Like always.

Sadie and Lily are not enthusiastic fans of gymnastics. They enjoy the running, jumping and leaping

Sadie and Lily are not enthusiastic fans of gymnastics. They enjoy the running, jumping and leaping bits. But they really do not have good comprehension of the implications of the need for upper body strength.

The vault is something to run around not jump over. The pommel horse looks exactly the same as the vault from their heights. On TV they can see the handles, but what is the point really of swinging your body over it using paws when you can grab the parallel rings with your mouth and swing off the ground in great big circles. That is really much more fun.

The even and uneven parallel bars don't provide shade, can't be mounted or balanced on, and are too high off of the ground to chew.

The dogs have mixed opinions about the balance beam. Sadie is cool with the beam; she walks across curbs and ledges in perfect balance all the time. At a whopping 13 pounds, she would easily be the tiniest gymnist imaginable, able to scurry across the beam and do a terrific dismount. There is no doubt that she could land on all four paws for a stuck landing. Lily, on the other hand, is baffled by the thing. It can't be hopped over, and it surely can't be walked on. It is waaaaayyyy, way to heavy to drag.

Despite the fact that Sadie and Lily are not huge gymnastics events fans, they do love the practice equipment, especially the trampoline. Here are our honorable mention Youtube videos that show our favorite dog videos related to the quasi-gymnastic events - for dogs!

I have a fear. A really, really, mind-numbing, breath stealing fear. OK, I have more than one, but in the interest of not letting you know what a messed up freak I am, I am only going to share one with you today.

I am afraid of trampolines. I have watched waaay too many episodes of America's Funniest Home Videos, where the moron jumps off the roof, onto the trampoline, and is catapaulted across the yard and smacks face first into a tree. Levi and I have spent many nights, laughing at the misfortune of these people. But under the laughter...I cringe. And worry. And wonder exactly how many broken bones that kid just ended up with. I can't help it. I'm a worrier. And while I would like to think I've taught my kids to be smarter than some roof-jumping moron...the fear remains. So I have steadfastly banned the purchase of a trampoline for our yard. I don't CARE that they now come with barricades, and restraints, and all the other safety features. Trampolines are unilaterally shot down when they appear on Christmas-wish lists, Birthday wish-lists, and even when someone tried to GIVE us one. I'm betting that Mom experienced a few injuries and just wanted the thing GONE...but I digress.

So, when Jonah and Levi got the chance, at Uncle Rob's, to play on the trampoline...I was a nervous wreck. And insisted that about 20 adults stand around the perimeter, guarding the exits for any over zealous jumpers. Here is how it went...

[caption id="attachment_141" align="aligncenter" width="450" caption="Trampoline fun"][/caption]

Jonah is gearing up to bounce Levi into the yard. Levi, the poor, naive thing, is waiting expectantly....

This game is, apparently, called "Popcorn", because, well, the boys get bounced around, and look kind of like popcorn kernels in hot oil. And for those of you who only eat air popped corn...well, I don't understand that anyway, so I have nothing to say about that. Except that you're missing out...big time.

Anyway, Levi decided to return the favor for Jonah. And here is how that went....

watch the glasses. Watch the glasses. WATCH THE GLASSES. WATCH THE GLASSES!!!!!!! That was my contribution to the moment. I had fears of Jonah smash landing on his face, crumpling his brand new glasses, and sustaining some pretty ugly injuries as a result. Note Jonah's feet are higher than his head, and his arms are no where in sight. Yeah...he didn't even TRY to break his "fall" and smash landed on his face. The glasses held...but his nose and chin had a bit of "trampoline" burn....silly kid.

So there it is. I've walked naked in front of you (figuratively speaking, of course) and laid my soul bare. You now know one of my biggest fears. The OTHER biggest fear isn't worth mentioning. Really, it's not. I mean, it's not like you read every day about elevators free-falling 40 floors to the ground, smashing their occupants to smithereens, right? But, I'm telling you...sometimes I have crazy thoughts in elevators. Which lead to unexpected and inappropriate outbursts. But only when the elevator lurches, or it opens it's doors before it's stopped. Now that is enough to make anyone worry. Right? Right? Am I the only one who worries that the brakes have failed, and I am going to crash land, in a heap at the bottom? Or would I be on the ceiling? Could it fall fast enough to lift me in the elevator, so that I ended up on the ceiling? And does it really matter? Cause if I just free fell 40 stories in an elevator...it's not gonna be pretty regardless of whether I'm on the floor or on the ceiling. Right?

So tell me. What is one of YOUR most irrational fears. Come on. Don't be shy. 'Fess up. You'll feel better. I promise. And I won't even laugh out loud. Really. Cause I'm empathetic like that. Or maybe it's just pathetic...hmmm. So do tell. What are YOU afraid of?

TABLE TENNIS

1.Origin of Table Tennis

Like many other sports, table tennis began as a mild social diversion; it was probably first played – with improvised equipment – in England, during the last quarter of the 19th century. Descending, along with badminton and lawn tennis, from the ancient medieval game of tennis, it was popular at the turn of the century under its present name and various trade names such as Gossima and Whiff-Waff.

After Ping-Pong (an imitation of the sound made by the ball striking the hollow vellum battledores that were then used) was registered in 1900, the game became a fashionable craze that quickly spread through Europe, the USA and soon afterwards was introduced in Asia. After a period when it had dropped out of favour in Europe, the game was revived in England and Wales in the early twenties. National associations were formed and standardization of the rules began, in both Europe and Asia.

Table Tennis Today

Table tennis has developed into a major world-wide sport, practiced by perhaps forty million competitive players and by uncountable millions who play less seriously. However, the game itself has not changed in essence since its earliest days, though it is faster, more subtle and more demanding than it was even only twenty years ago.

Modern table tennis at national and international level is as rigorous as any sport in its demands for the highest degree of physical fitness and mental concentration, attained only by arduous training to develop natural skill.

TRITHLON

2.Origin of Triathlon

The first recorded triathlon occurred in California on September 24, 1974. It was organised by the San Diego Track and Field Club at Mission Bay and was created as an alternative to the rigors of athletic training on the track. There were 46 finishers in this first triathlon and the event consisted of 5.3-mile run, followed by a 5-mile cycle race and 600 yards of swimming in the ocean.

Over the next decade, triathlon grew by leaps and bounds and soon gained recognition throughout the world. The energetic and charismatic sport caught the attention of the International Olympic Committee. In 1988, IOC President Juan Antonio SAMARANCH arranged a meeting in Stockholm with the intention of including triathlon in the Olympic Games as quickly as possible.

The International Triathlon Union was founded in 1989 at the first ITU Congress in Avignon, France. Thirty National Federations attended, conducted elections and made preparations for the first World Championships to be held in Avignon on August 6. The official distance for triathlon was set at a 1.5km swim, a 40km cycle and a 10km run. More than 800 athletes representing 40 countries competed in the first World Championships.

Although founded in Avignon, France, ITU has maintained its headquarters in Vancouver, Canada and has grown to over 121 affiliated national federations around the world. In 1991, ITU began its World Cup series with 11 events in eight different countries. American Karen SMYERS and Brazilian Leandro MACEDO were crowed the overall winners of the series.

In 1994, at the IOC Congress in Paris, France, triathlon was awarded full medal status on the Olympic programme and will made its debut at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. With inclusion into the Olympic Games, the ITU World Cup series grew and on May 25, 2008, the 200th World Cup event was held in Madrid, Spain.

Triathlon Today

In 2008, the World Cup series included 13 events held in major cities and destinations around the globe. The series travels to Olympic venues such Beijing as well as major cities such as Madrid, Vancouver, Lisbon and Hamburg.

Each year World Championships is staged with extensive international television and media coverage. The high profile triathlon World Championships for 2009, 2010 and 2012 will be held in Gold Coast (AUS); Budapest (HUN) and Beijing (CHN) respectively.

Triathlon at the Olympic Games
In its Olympic debut at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, triathlon set a new Olympic attendance record with over 120,000 spectators for the women's and men's competitions. At the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, triathlon was one of only a few events to sell all available tickets. Triathlon will make its third appearance at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, with the competitions specifically scheduled for primetime television exposure.

TAEKWONDO

3.Origin of Taekwondo

The history of taekwondo as a martial art can be traced back almost two millennia ago in the Korean Peninsula. For centuries, this unique self-defence martial art existed in various forms and names. In ancient times, including the Three Kingdoms Period in the Korean Peninsula, the martial art was introduced primarily as a form of physical or military training. In the 1950s, a group of leading Korean grandmasters unified the various forms of the martial art into a single system of self-defence. This unified system came to be known as taekwondo , which literally means "The Way of Kicking and Punching." Taekwondo's popularity soared thereafter, as its forceful and difficult techniques, combined with swiftness and grace, attracted interests from all walks of life. In 1971, taekwondo was nominated as a Korean national sport and in 1972, the Kukkiwon was established. Three years later, on May 28, 1973, the World Taekwondo Federation was founded.

Taekwondo Today

In 1975, taekwondo was accepted as a sport of the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) and within five years, the World Taekwondo Federation was accepted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the sole governing entity of taekwondo. Over the past three decades, taekwondo's global popularity is nothing short of meteoric, as tens of millions of general practitioners around the world associated themselves with the proud tradition, philosophies and health benefits of taekwondo. As of 2008, the global membership of the WTF stands at 188 national associations across five continents.

Taekwondo at the Olympic Summer Games

Taekwondo entered as a demonstration sport at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games and the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. On September 4, 1994, taekwondo was accepted as an official medal sport of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games at the 103rd IOC Session in Paris, France. Taekwondo was included in the official programme in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games and will once again feature as an official sport in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

TENNIS

4.Origins of Tennis

The origins of tennis are a matter of dispute. Some say early versions of the game were played in ancient Egypt, a theory based on the origins of the name. They claim that the word "tennis" derives from the Egyptian town of Tinnis, and that "racquet" evolved from the Arabic word for the palm of the hand, "rahat".

However, there is more evidence to suggest that the game originated in France in the 11th or 12th century and was played by French monks who played handball against monastery walls, or over a rope strung across a courtyard. The game was called "jeu de paume", meaning "game of the hand". Many believe that the name "tennis" is derived from the French "tenez", which means "take this" or "be ready", and was said by the server before the point began.

As the game became more popular, players began to use gloves in an attempt to avoid the build-up of calluses. Over time, wooden bats were added, and balls were made from wads of hair, wool or cork, wrapped in string and cloth or leather. In later years they were hand-stitched in felt.

The game also became popular in royal circles. King Louis X of France died after a particularly strenuous game in 1316, and Charles VII met his end after striking his head on a piece of wood over the door leading to his tennis court. This did not diminish its popularity among subsequent monarchs, who are credited with keeping the game alive.

Racquets were introduced in the 16th century, and England's King Henry VIII built a court at Hampton Court Palace in 1530 that was replaced by Charles I in 1625 and still exists today.

The 16th century version of tennis is still played today in four countries. In France it has retained its original name of "Jeu de Paume"; it is "Royal Tennis" in Australia, "Court Tennis" in the USA and "Real Tennis" in Great Britain. The court is a cross between a tennis and a squash court. There is a net and players can bounce the ball off the walls.

During the 18th century "lawn tennis" emerged in Britain due to the aristocracy preferring to entertain their guests at home in their own backyards rather than have to travel long distances to play in indoor courts. Lawn tennis soon became the chosen sport of the privileged classes and immense importance was placed on proper etiquette and controlled behaviour.

In a short time it overtook croquet as the most popular British summer sport. The game was further expanded from 1873 by an English army major, Walter Clopton Wingfield, who designed, patented and manufactured equipment. Wingfield created a box, costing five guineas, that included two net posts, a net, racquets and India rubber balls. He named it "Sphairistike" derived from the Greek word for ball games, and it had a subsidiary name of "lawn tennis". Two brothers, Clarence and Joseph Clark, took the box to America in 1874 where it caught the attention of Mary Outerbridge, whose brother Emilius organised what is believed to be the USA's first major tennis event.

Tennis Today

The official ILTF Rules of Tenniswere drawn up in Paris in 1923 and implemented from 1 January 1924. In 1977, the ILTF dropped the word "lawn" to take on its present name, the International Tennis Federation (ITF). There are 204 member countries in the ITF.

Tennis at the Olympic Games

Tennis was played at the first Modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896, one of nine sports on the programme. There were just two events, the men's singles and doubles. Ireland's John Boland won the first Olympic tennis gold medal in singles and partnered Freidrich Traun of Germany to gold in the doubles. Women's singles and doubles, along with mixed doubles, were introduced at the 1900 Paris Olympics.

After the Paris Olympic Games of 1924, tennis did not appear again on the Olympic programme until Seoul in 1988, with professionals allowed to compete.

TRAMPOLINE

5.The Origin of Trampoline Gymnastics

Modern Trampoline Gymnastics came about after he first prototype apparatus was built in 1936 by the George NISSEN (USA) in his garage. As well as being enjoyable at a recreational level, Trampoline Gymnastics has also been used by the Air Force and by space agencies to help pilots and astronauts acclimatise to aerial activity.

Competitive Trampoline Gymnastics began in the USA after World War II. It spread to Europe in the 1950s, aided by visits from George NISSEN. Display teams travelled to all continents in the 1950s and 1960s, a time when many national federations were formed.

In 1958 the first Nissen Cup was held in Switzerland, an event that continues to this day. In 1964, the International Trampoline Federation (FIT) was formed and the first FIT World Championships were held in the same year. European and Pan Pacific Championships soon followed. USA athletes dominated the sport in the early years, but these days many nations share the top honours. The first FIT World Cup took place in 1993, sparking a tremendous interest in the sport.

Trampoline Gymnastics Today

Now recognised as a sport in its own right around the world, it is also utilised as a training tool for many other sports, such as gymnastics, diving and freestyle skiing. Modern trampolines can project gymnasts to great heights, with the sport's top stars able to touch 10m high ceilings and perform multiple somersaults with ease.

Trampoline Gymnastics at the Olympic Summer Games

Trampoline Gymnastics was performed at the first-ever Olympic gymnastics gala in Atlanta in 1996, and the following year it was granted Olympic status by the IOC. This necessitated the merging of the FIT and the FIG, which was successfully accomplished at the end of 1998, ensuring the debut of Trampoline Gymnastics at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Russians Alexander MOSKALENKO and Irina KARAVAEVA were discipline's first Olympic Champions. KARAVAEVA was also awarded the IOC Fair Play Recognition by IOC President Jacques ROGGE, for outstanding behaviour, having handed back her world title to Anna DOGONADZE (GER), due to a judging error.

Last night was a good one. Lots of people, many old faces that I haven't seen for a while, and an empty gym too - empty in the sense that it wasn't full of kids.

What happened? well, there was loads of btwists - showing Kim the technique, layout 'exploders' off the big horse in to the pit, plenty of aerials and front sumi walkover things (sorry I don't know the name of them). Plus round off back tucks, as high and as delayed as I can make them... then on to the tramp with numerous backfull twists - trying to drill the technique into my brain. I ended up spinning tighter and much faster than I intended and started getting doubles :D ... but then as soon as I started thinking 'lets go for a double' I started screwing up again... so I stopped that and went back to singles.

The only other flip worth noting was lots of double btwists from the tramp onto a hefty mat... I can do 4 in a row before my brain starts sloshing about in my head and I have to sit down for a bit. I'm getting round to my feet each time with them too, I'm looking forward to the time when I can land stood up and walk straight off the mat.

the camera was out last night, and I've caught most of what I've qwerted above, however I haven't had chance to edit it down and shove it online yet. Should get that done tonight. I'm in a real motivated mood to start filming and putting anything and everything online again. Who cares if its repetitive? Who cares if I'm not prgressing as much as I want? I'm forgetting the point of this place... document the learning/process/journey and have it all to look back on when I'm done with it. Soo, footage arriving soon.

so i've been doing three things for the last month: sleeping, moving, writing.

okay, moving involved painting, packing, unpacking, building furniture from ikea, all that good stuff. and writing included reading, so i could write essays. and sleeping should technically include things like showering and eating and occasional breaks to go to the corner store for a lovely beverage or some chocolate.

but today i turned in my first packet and could decompress. today i have nothing else planned but decompression. lounging around (and feeling like i should be doing something), maybe reading a magazine to see what's going on in the world (shouldn't i be reading for my next essay?), maybe check out some tape-delayed olympic coverage of

what the hell is this team handball thing?!!

it looks like soccer. only with hands. and they can bounce a ball, like basketball byt they can't dribble. and there's a goalie, and a goal area that looks like it takes up one fourth of the indoor field. indoors! and the ball is like a volleyball.

what is this sport? who plays this sport?

this sport is weird. this sport looks stupid. this looks like some kid invented it one day at P.E. where they had a free period

dude, it's like team soccer and dodgeball...

i guess there are folks who will scoff at BMX racing at the olympics so i gues i better shut up.

i get one day to goof off. you'd think they'd at least have trampoline or something...

We celebrated my mother in law's 70th birthday this weekend. This woman gave birth to 8 children, has umpteen grandchildren, and two great-grand children. She is a strong woman, having lost her husband to cancer 8 years ago. In the years since, she has continued to be the driving force behind this family. And let me tell you a secret....if you had seen her yesterday, you'd NEVER believe she was celebrating her 70th birthday...

Check this out...

[caption id="attachment_134" align="aligncenter" width="450" caption="Jonah and Mamaw"][/caption]

Now, I am A LOT of years younger than Lillian. A LOT. But I would NEVER have dreamed of getting up on the trampoline with THIS crew of kids. Nuh, uh...no way....no thank you. Lillian saw the kiddos having such a great time, got a leg up and jumped out there with them. Someone asked her if she had ever been on a trampoline before and her response was "Nope, but I thought it was about time!"

You can see the happiness on Lillian's face as she played with the kids. And the little blond haired nymph in the picture, in the brown shirt....she's absolutely FEARLESS. She had no concept of the reality of the broken bones that could ensue if she were to jump OFF the trampoline...and gave me about 14 heart attacks during the day....but she was having a blast. She is Larry's great-niece, EmmaLynn, and she is a cutie pie. The other little brown haired nymph in the picture is Larry's other great-niece Raylee. And she is a child after my own heart. She sat on the trampoline and pretended to be driving. And she said, and I quote "I'm looking for the mall, but I can't find it...." Her mama Rachelle is teaching that girl right, let me tell ya....

[caption id="attachment_136" align="aligncenter" width="450" caption="Birthday cake"][/caption]

Here Jonah is helping Mamaw with the candles on her cake. If there are candles involved, you'd better believe that Jonah is going to be right there in the middle of it....

Lillian, you are a wonderful mother-in-law to me. I love you and hope that yesterday was everything you hoped it would be. I just hope that today you can get out of bed, and aren't popping ibuprofen like candy, after your stint on the trampoline.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY LILLIAN!!!

Oh yeah, Jacob was pumped because he won the Corn-Hole tournament yesterday afternoon. He is $20 richer, and is thrilled! What a great birthday...for everyone.

And this has nothing what-so-ever to do with birthdays, but I just had to share. We're getting eggs daily from our chickens. And they are DELICIOUS! We had fresh sausage, homemade biscuits and gravy and our own eggs for supper last night. YUMMY!! Here is a picture of our eggs...they are smaller right now, but look at the deep orange color of the yolks...so good. And hopefully, they'll be getting larger soon. Note the color and size difference between our fresh eggs and the store bought ones....

[caption id="attachment_137" align="aligncenter" width="450" caption="Eggs"][/caption]

Summer is winding down....the kids go back to school in TWO days!!! I can't believe it...where has the time gone? We've spent our summer playing, swimming, swinging, chasing chickens and celebrating birthdays. What is YOUR favorite summer memory? I'd love to hear it....

Did you know that trampolining is not only a great form of general exercise but is also good for your skin and overall well-being?

Trampolining is a fantastic way to encourage lymphatic drainage. Unlike our blood circulation system the lymph system has no pump. Instead it relies totally upon movement to bring about flow around the body. Breathing, eating and generally moving are all good for the lymph system and it has been found that bouncing on a trampoline is an effective way to encourage lymph drainage due to the one way valves in the system.

Surprisingly, bouncing on a little garden trampoline has been found to improve the activity of the lymphatic system by up to 30 times. As you bounce gravity works to draw impurities from cells to be destroyed by the lymph system. Trampolining will boost immunity and help dispose of toxins helping your skin to glow and look radiant.
