Ni kanske har tittat på topp 100-listor över tidernas mest framgångsrika filmer, alltså de filmer som har dragit in mest pengar. Det finns massor med listor och de som anses mest intressanta är de som representerar den amerikanska biomarknaden.

De flesta listor som finns mäter enbart hur mycket filmen har dragit in och tar inte hänsyn till t.ex. inflation. På IMDB finns en sådan lista och problemet med dessa listor är att många nya filmer hamnar väldigt högt uppe av den enkla anledningen att en biobiljett helt enkelt kostar mer nu än vad den gjorde för 30 år sedan. Sedan kan man spekulera i att det finns fler invånare och alltså fler potentiella biografbesökare nu än förr men sådana faktorer är väldigt svåra att räkna in.

Det enklaste sättet att få en någorlunda bra uppskattning är att justera biljettpriserna till 2007 års priser på ca $6.58. Om man gör det får man en ganska rättvis lista men då återstår ändå ett problem. Många av filmerna som kom ut före 1980 har haft fler releaser däribland ett flertal Disney-filmer. Det finns inte så mycket man kan göra för att korrigera detta utan man får helt enkelt ha det i tanken när man läser listan.

Cultural Impact: Filmcitat som tittarna använder i sina egna liv och som cirkulerar så mycket i populärkulturen att de blir en del av språket.
