We still legged it straight to the main stage to catch Bring Me The Horizon (9/10), the best example of metalcore that Britain has to offer. They were a last minute addition to the line-up to try and make up for those disappointed with the Slipknot exclusions. Very impressed with their set, which also included some of the most promising examples of new material from any band I heard that day (gf certainly would disagree). Next up were Alexisonfire (7.5/10), really enjoyed them, new stuff blended and sound as great as thier modern classics, knew how to work with the crowd. Off to the NME/Radio 1 stage for Cajun Dance Party (7/10) and Lightspeed Champion (7/10), both excelled expectations, still some work to be done, with much future potential on show from the former. Saw a bit of Plain White T's (5/10) between CDP and LC, not bad, nothing special, their hit went down well. Caught the end of the Dropkick Murphy's (8/10) set regret not seeing more, so much energy from the band, a lot of crowd pleasing tunes that everyone seemed to embody. Saw a few songs from Feeder (6/10). Classic Feeder, nothing more, nothing less than expected really. Then off the Pendulum. The NME/Radio 1 stage was packed... tried getting into the tent, then once there had to escape, was just too much. By the time we got in and out Feeder had finished. Pendulum (N/A) sounded like a real treat, will have to catch them at their own gig. Tenacious D (7/10) were cool, though found myself waiting for their jokes in between (during) songs rather than enjoying the music, shame as I really enjoyed their first album when it came out. Off to see the Last Shadow Puppets (8/10) next, great performance that include a mini orchestra. Really top performance, although thought it might have been a bit premature in their careers to have the strings and co. behind them, pulling out the stops when their second headliners on the NME/Radio 1 stage, what are they going to do when they headline a festival? Now the headliners Metallica (8.5/10). As grand and demanding performance as you can expect from one of America's finest. Did many of the hits and some, encore seemed a little of an anti-climax, highlight the haunting classic 'One'.

Next year back to camping at Reading? Maybe.

Do passado, o Electronic, dos gênios Johnny Marr (The Smiths) e Bernard Summer (New Order) com a faixa "Disappointed" que conta com o belo vocal de Neil Tenant (Pet Shop Boys).

¿Cómo sonar mejor que los Arctic Monkeys? Juntando a Alex Turner y a Miles Kane y ponerlos a componer. Estos chicos nacieron para cantar juntos. The Last Shadow Puppets nació como una idea en el 2007 cuando la banda de Kane (The Little Framers) era telonera de la de Turner en un tour por el Reino Unido. Los pibes pegaron onda, se hicieron amigos y el resto se traduce en los 12 tracks que componen el disco debut "The Age of the Understatement" (editado en abril de este año) más algún que otro cover como el exquisito "Wondrous Place" del sesentero Billy Fury.

Para presentarse en sociedad contrataron a un director cool que les produjo un docu-reality en el cual cuentan un poco como fue que surgió este proyecto.

Oh I've been thinking about this lately. Is it just me or does Miles Kane look like a young Paul McCartney?

There I was looking forward to good news from one of my favorite bands ever, but no. Sadly I fell for NME's misleading headlines. The first one is actually about Matt Helders releasing a compliation album of dance songs with one on which he collaborates with Nesreen Shah. The other is again about Mr. Helders DJing with former Arctic Monkeys bassist Andy Nicholson at Ibiza Rocks. Thank you NME for that. Oh yeah one of the articles had a sentence at the end which reminds us Arctic Monkeys are working on their third album.

Oh and there was this one yesterday: "The Kills discuss Arctic Monkeys collaboration". This one says Alison Mosshart from the Kills recorded a song with Alex Turner a while ago but doesn't know what's going to happen with it as they have been busy. Hopefully we'll finally hear some new material soon but it's doubtful as Mr. Turner is busy with side project The Last Shadow Puppets. I'm not complaining, I get to see them in November.

Sharleen Spiteri

La cantante de Texas. El mes pasado sacó su proyecto en solitario, un discazo que ha llamado 'Melody'. Recuerda también a soul, pero también tiene toques de chançon francesa de toda la vida. De hecho en el corte que da título al disco hay un sample de Serge Gainsbourg y el último tema se llama 'Françoise', para qué decir más.

Sonido soul, sí, un poco como la Winehouse y Duffy, pero imagínate con la voz de Sharleen Spiteri. Es que no hay comparación.

El single de promoción que ha sacado, 'All the Times I Cried', no le hace justicia al resto del álbum. Es decir, está bien la canción, pero dentro de este trabajo las hay infinitamente mejores, como 'It Was You' o 'Stop I Don't Love You Anymore'.

Para componer la mayoría de los temas, "Shar" se ha hecho acompañar de su compañero de Texas de siempre Johnny McElhone. Así que la calidad está asegurada.

The Last Shadow Puppets

Los últimos crooners en aparecer por mi biblioteca musical. Son dos chavales ingleses como te dije, cuyos nombres seguro que te suenan: Miles Kane y Alex Turner. El pimero es el guitarra y voz de The Rascals, y el segundo el líder de los Arctic Monkeys.

Según una entrevista que concedió Turner al NME (New Musical Express), él y Miles se conocieron de gira y la química que hubo entre ellos fue "alucinante".

'The Age of the Understatement' es el título de su hasta ahora único trabajo, dicen que volverán con más material en 2009. Y recuerda mucho a los Beatles de los inicios con grandes arreglos sinfónicos, mezclados con algo de country y sonido surf. Vamos, más oldie no se puede ser.

Te remito al video de su nuevo single 'Standing Next to Me' para que veas que tengo razón: 'Standing Next to Me'

En mi opinión es muy loable que dos chavales como estos, que no levantan 25 años del suelo, hayan querido recuperar este tipo de sonido. Adultos: aprended.

Does It Offend You, Yeah? at the Mayan

One thing that struck me recently was that the two major tabloids in Norway does not have the same main article. Solskjær, (a famous Norwegian fotball player) was retiring yesterday, and I was guessing that this would be front page material at about any sort of medium over here. However, Dagbladet, (the smaller tabloid of the two major ones) choose to have a completely different main story. Actually Solskjær wasn't even mentioned on the front page. Why is this? Is it just to make a stand? Or did they just give in? Of course, having the same main article as your arch enemy would be silly, but letting out such a major event from your front page is even more silly.

Also, I've just started abusing Last.fm. Actually Last.fm is abusing me, well, not me, but rather my dear dear Opera ): Opera tends to lag sometime when Last.fm is up, which kills me. So what should I prioritize; surfing or listening to The Last Shadow Puppets? I think we all can agree in that listening to The Puppets is most important.
