Personally, I find the photos rather amusing because it looks to me that the couple had intentionally PLANNED to have sex in public beforehand as they were "well camouflaged" (they did it with without exposing much skin and from afar, they did look like they were just engaged in some light petting).

A fitting tribute to a true Singaporean who stayed behind and fought persistently for what he believes in, despite what it cost him.

"Dear Mr Jeyaretnam,

I visited you one last time on Tuesday. I've never seen you so peaceful and contented.

This is such a change from all the years that we've been working together. I remember how bitter we felt sitting in your rented apartment at Orange Grove Road after the 1997 elections. The place has since been turned into swank, upscale serviced-apartments. We were drafting a letter to the United Nations to ask for the monitoring of future elections here.

It was a tedious job recounting everything that had happened: the hounding of Tang Liang Hong, the threats made against voters, and the gatecrashing of polling stations by ministers. The task was made lighter only with the delightful combination of the savoury Indian vadai and Earl Grey you served.

I remember also asking you about the copy of Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela sitting on your coffee table. You said that once in a long while, there comes a man who achieves greatness without having to cause the suffering of others.

On another occasion, my wife and I visited you at another rented house. From the outside, we could see a few of your shirts hanging by the window ledge on the upper floor. Mei said that she felt sorry that you had to do your own laundry at your age without anyone sharing those chores with you.

This reminds me of the time when we were driving along Serangoon Road and you wanted to stop by to pick up a bunch of flowers. I had asked you what the occasion was. You said it was your wedding anniversary and that your late wife, Margaret, would have liked the bouquet.

Then there was the time when we visited New York City. I was surprised when you mentioned that that was the first time you had set foot in the US. We had checked into this small hotel and struggled with our luggage along the narrow and dingy corridor. And as I fumbled for the key to open the door, I heard you mutter to yourself: "Oh Ben, what have you gotten yourself into?"

My heart sank when I heard you say that. I was feeling a little depressed myself and I was hoping to get some cheer from you. Seeing you so despondent made my own morale wobble.

But I knew that you were feeling depressed and anxious because of yet another lawsuit. As we put our weary heads on the emaciated pillows, you said that they didn't just want to win politically but were determined to also crush us personally.

We made a pact that night that while we may not yet be able to beat them politically, we would not allow them to defeat us on the personal front. They may take away all our possessions, but they will never take away our will to speak up. And then you said that we needed to rest as “tomorrow's another day that we have to fight.”

The next morning I came out from the shower and saw you reading the Bible. We talked a little about the Book of Ecclesiastes. Then you knelt down by the bed to say a prayer and I joined you. We prayed for strength and sustenance.

Rejuvenated, we went down to what New Yorkers call a “deli” for breakfast. I remember you asking me what a bagel was and I said that it was the American version of the vadai. You chortled and we mouthed down a couple of Ham and Cheeses. Actually, I did. You found the bagels a little too hard.

During breakfast we talked about setting up an NGO to advocate transparency and democracy in Singapore. When we came back, we had a bit of a laugh seeing how the gentleman at the Registry of Companies squirmed as he tried to handle our application for the "Open Singapore Foundation".

After rejecting the term "Foundation", "Institute" and a couple of others, the ROC finally allowed the use of "Centre". Thus was born the first human rights NGO in Singapore.

We left New York and you headed south to Florida to visit your son. When you returned, you bought my daughter a little pink teddy bear. It squeaks when you press its tummy. When she was a little older, we told her who bought it for her. She named it “JB Bear" because she couldn't quite pronounce your name.

My wife said that it was funny to think of this cute little pink bear and picture you at the same time, a big elderly man with bushy hair and your trademark "mutton chops". You always made her jump a little whenever your voice boomed through the phone: "Is that you, Mei?"

Several months later, your worst nightmare came true. You were found guilty of defamation again and you now had to vacate your seat in Parliament for the second time. I remember talking to you on the phone after your appeal was rejected. You sounded so crestfallen.

I had asked you if you wanted to talk, but you said that you just wanted to be "alone for a while." The next day we met for lunch near your office at North Bridge Road. We got into a heated argument. I had asked you not to continue paying the money and playing into the hands of Lee and his people.

I knew you were angry at me for saying so, but I also knew that you wanted me to be honest with you. Through the years, we have had our clashes and disagreements. But we always knew that we were locked in spirit and that we would always remain true to each other and to what we believed in. No matter how serious our disagreements, we always stood on the same side.

As you lay down to rest, democracy is not yet at hand. But don't you ever believe those who say that your fight on earth was irrelevant and personal. Nothing could be further from the truth. You have inspired an entire generation of Singaporeans and we will keep the fight going.

We will keep on reaching for that star in the black sky, that shimmering distant star of liberty. If we are closer to touching it, it is because we stand on your shoulders.

Your legacy and walk on earth will not only remain but it will grow. You have left a void that cannot be filled.

I think of that night in New York when we pledged not to let them defeat our persons. You've kept your end of the pact. They may still have the power but, boy, you sure showed them what a fighter for truth is. You leave us with honour and dignity, no one could buy you over and no one did. And even though you did not possess millions in your bank account, the treasure which you have stored is with you today and forever.

Goodbye, Ben, I will miss you.

But even as I mourn your death, I celebrate your life because it has touched mine. You have fought the good fight and now you have been called home to rest. They cannot hurt you anymore. Until we meet again, dear friend, I will always remain

What Is Serendipity?

Mica heard a word, a most wonderful word. It happened while Mica’s parents were talking and they didn’t realize that she was listening. Most of the time, Mica didn’t bother to listen when grown-ups talked to each other. They used long words in flat, serious tones and rarely had anything exciting to say. But one evening Mica heard something so different from anything she’d heard before.

“He says here, the key to any great success is not just luck, but serendipity,” Mama was saying, as she was browsing through a shiny magazine. And as she said it, Mama’s face looked the way it looked when she was describing how she used to play Chinese jackstones when she was a little girl or the natilla that Lola used to bake. Then the look was gone, Mama was her regular self again. Her grown-up conversation with Papa continued.

“Serendipity,” Mica said softly to herself. “Ssehh-rehhenn—“ she stretched out the sounds “—dpithy,” she finished quickly, producing three little pops. It’s like a song, she thought. Serendipity-doo-dah! Mama made it seem like such an important word, but it was so simple to say.

Mica didn’t know what the word meant, but she liked the sound of it. She like it very much, indeed. It sounded like something she would yell when Mama and Papa said that it was alright to yell as loud as she liked. Like the time she looked down the dark wishing well in the back of Lolo’s house in the province. Instead of calling ”Hello,” she would shout “Serendipity!” and the echo would laugh back, “Tee-hee-hee.”

It sounded like something she would say whenever she made an amazing discovery. Like the time she learned to cross her eyes and saw two of everything. Or that feeding a carabao wasn’t anything to be scared of. The carabao ate the grass out of her hand, and its tongue was just a little wet, like her own.

She wanted to find serendipity so she could surprise her mother with some of it. Mama was looking very tired lately. But first, she had to find out what serendipity meant.

As Mica lay in bed, the word wouldn’t stop repeating itself in her head. She asked her Yaya Paz, who was crocheting a blouse by her bedside, “Yaya, what is serendipity?”

Yaya Paz replied, after thinking awhile, “I think it’s the name of a mischievous, little mermaid who likes to watch children build castles on the beach. When it gets dark, or the children have been playing too long, Serendipity blows the water to wash away the sand castles so the children know it’s time to go. Then, tired from blowing so many waves, Serendipity goes home, deep in the ocean to her mother, who sings a song to send her to sleep.”

As Yaya Paz hummed the lullaby that the mother mermaid sang, Mica figured that she was being tricked, but she didn’t mind. She felt her eyelids growing heavy. But still her dreams were about serendipity. What in the world did it mean?

At breakfast the next morning Mica thought hard, I haven’t heard Mama use that word before, not Papa or Lolo, not even Teacher Marilyn. It must be something kept secret from little kids like me. Could it be a secret food, she wondered, that gave you powers like Popeye’s spinach?

She looked around her. It couldn’t be the pork and beans. She ate it all the time. And it certainly couldn’t be the champorado.

There was a clear bottle on the table containing bright strands of yellow, white, and orange and some tidbits of red. Papa ate this sometimes with his tapa or longganisa, but Mica had never tried it before. It looks so tasty, but it has never been offered to me, Mica realized, not like the kangkong that Mama insists I eat. Could this be serendipity?

But it didn’t taste at all the way it looked, or so Mica thought at first. She imagined it would taste like the gaily colored candies that hang from the window of the sari-sari store. Or maybe like pancit because of the fine noodle-like shreds. But this stuff was kind of sweet, kind of sour, and kind of something else she couldn’t describe. How could Papa eat this? She ate a little more, trying to figure out the taste. And slowly, bit by bit, she decided that it wasn’t bad at all!

Mica was convinced that she had found the secret of serendipity. This food that looked pretty, but tasted strange, but tasted good, but tasted different. This is serendipity, she decided, or it tastes very much like it. This is the key to great success. She couldn’t wait to tell Mama when she got home.

But Mama wouldn’t be back for a while, so Mica went to the park to play. It had been several days since she was last there because Mica had gotten tired of the same old jungle gym. But now everything—the sandbox, with the circus animals painted on the roof, the swings that squeaked, and the striped seesaws—looked fun once more.

“Serendipity!” she shrieked, as she whizzed down the slide. She went down so fast that she reached the bottom just as she finished the word.

“Serendipity!” she hollered every time she swung forward, using her toes to give herself a mighty push. With her eyes shut and her head tilted back, she could hear the wind rushing past her, as though murmuring a reply.

Then she felt something on her nose. Something so tiny and faint she might not have noticed it at all. It was a golden leaf from the giant sampaloc tree above. It was raining sampaloc leaves, and they were falling gracefully to the grass. Except for the one golden leaf that had found its way to Mica.

“This means I get a magic wish,” Mica said to the sampaloc tree. “For every leaf I catch, I have a magic wish.” Then, a new thought came into Mica’s head. What if serendipity wasn’t something to eat after all? What if it was right here on the tip of her finger? What if serendipity was this golden sampaloc leaf bearing Mica a magic wish?

“Of course! Of course!” Mica cried with the delight, as she kept the leaf carefully in her pocket. “The more serendipities I catch, the more wishes I get. Then I’ll wish great success for Mama so that she won’t be so tired anymore.”

Mica watched for another shower. With the next breeze, she lifted her skirt to use as a net. Then she ran back and forth, turning and twirling, trying to be at the precise spot where each lead was going to fall. It wasn’t easy to do. There were far too many of them. And they were blowing about in all sorts of directions, making Mica miss a few. But Mica didn’t give up. She waited breathlessly for each gust of wind to send down another shower of leaves and off she would go, clutching the edge of her skirt, catching as many serendipities as she could.

Pretty soon a little girl in pigtails was doing the same thing, joined by Mang Jun, who caught what he could with his salakot. Even the yayas, who had been chatting intently on the park bench, hoisted their aprons and joined in the merry scramble for falling wishes.

When Mica grew tired, and her neck ached from looking up too long, she counted her leaves. There were seventeen in her skirt . . . plus the first one in her pocket . . . that gave her eighteen serendipities in all. Mica ran home with the golden leaves in her fists, raised above her head, the way runners do when they cross the finish line first.

“Serendipity!” cried Mica as she burst into her bedroom. So thrilled was she over her catch that she bounced on her bed over and over again until she could almost, just almost, touch the ceiling.

I’d better keep these before they get lost, she remembered. She took her piggy bank down from the shelf and dropped the sampaloc leaves through the slot. One, two, three, four. . . she was getting to eleven when something caught her eye.

It was a little doll from many months before. It had come in a goodie bag from a cousin’s birthday party. The doll was made entirely of cloth, her thick limbs stuffed with what she felt like sand. She didn’t bend or talk. Her eyes didn’t close when you laid her down. In fact, her entire face was painted with only two colors: black for the eyes, lashes, brows, and nose; and pink for the cheeks and heart-shaped lips. When she first saw her, Mica didn’t think that she was a very nice doll. She was too squat; she was hard to hug at night; and she just wasn’t very pretty at all.

“She’s not meant to be pretty. She’s a pincushion,” Yaya Paz had said then.

Mica couldn’t imagine why she would ever want to stick pins into anything. So she lost herself instead in the bubble pipe, the floral stickers, and all the other delightful things that were in the goodie bag.

The doll was put on the shelf, propped on top of Mica’s books, and was forgotten until Mica noticed her now.

She’s been there so long, quietly waiting for me to care for her, Mica realized. She felt ashamed for all the games that she had played with all her other toys which the pincushion doll hadn’t joined. Or the times that she couldn’t find anything to do and didn’t even think to take the doll from her perch.

“It’s not your fault you’re plain,” consoled Mica, as she took the doll tenderly in her hands. The doll’s dress had faded and her face had turned slightly gray from the dust. But her expression remained sweet and patient and wise.

“I bet you’ve been watching over me all this time, haven’t you? You’ve been guarding me at night when Yaya Paz says monsters and mumus and white ladies can sneak in through the window. You’ve been protecting me from harm like an angel,” Mica said.

The doll seemed to nod.

“I’m sorry, old doll,” Mica whispered. “I’m sorry I didn’t pay any attention to you.”

The doll kept her cheery smile, and in her black-dot eyes Mica could see forgiveness.

“From now on, you’ll join me and the others. You can help me fix Baby Rose’s hair. You can cook rice with my mini rice cooker. You can even ride my magic pony.” Mica was thinking of all the fun they would have together to make up for all the loneliness the doll must have felt during the many months that she had been ignored.

“And from now on, I will give you a proper name of your own, like all the other dolls. I will call you—“ Mica knew that it could be nothing else but—“I will call you Serendipity.”

Serendipity looked pleased and proud. Just then Mica heard a car drive up. “Mama!” Mica rushed to gather the day’s treasures to present to her mother.

Mama looked up from the bills that she was sorting through. “So what did you do with yourself today?” she asked.

“Oh Mama, I have found the key to great success! I have found serendipity!” Mica announced grandly.

Mama looked closely at Mica’s face, her eyebrows crinkled, as if she was trying to concentrate really hard. “What is serendipity, Mica?” she finally asked. “What do you think it is?”

“Yaya Paz said it was a little mermaid, but I think she was fooling me. I’m sure it’s at least one of these things, Mama,” she said, putting the jar she discovered at breakfast on the table. “It’s this stuff that looks like candy pancit, but doesn’t taste like it. It looks soft and wet, but has a tiny crunch when you bite it. It tastes weird at first, but after a while it’s delicious. Try it, Mama. It’ll give you super strength. Or it’ll make you super successful. Then you won’t look so tired anymore.”

Mama stared at the bottle, but all she said was, “Hmm, most people call it achara, but it does taste interesting, come to think of it.”

Mica emptied the contents to her piggy bank onto her mother’s lap. “Or it’s these golden leaves, Mama, from the big old sampaloc tree in the park. If you catch them before they fall to the ground you get a magic wish. I caught eighteen serendipities in my skirt today. You can have some, Mama, or you can have them all. I can always catch some more tomorrow.”

Mama had that funny expression again, the one she has whenever she talks about Chinese jackstones or natilla.

“Maybe the wishes won’t work unless I go and catch some myself,” Mama said. “May I go with you next time?”

“What a great idea!” exclaimed Mica. “You can wear your swirly skirt the flowers so you can catch lots of them. I’ll wish for a baby brother and you can wish for great success . . . But wait, I almost forgot . . .you have to meet my old new friend. This is Serendipity.” Mica handed the doll to her mother.

“She’s not very cute and she’s a little worn. But she’s sweet and loyal, and she never complains. If you make her your friend, she’ll keep away evil spirits so that you’ll find success for sure.”

Mama was smiling broadly now.

“I call her Serendipity because she seems like one to me. Am I right, Mama? Or is serendipity the magic leaf? Or the candy-colored food? That’s serendipity, isn’t it?”

“You’re absolutely right about all of them!” Mama burst into merry laughter. She swept Mica up into her arms and explained, “Serendipity is whatever you think it is, wherever you find it. When you feel joy in something that other people may overlook. When something makes you happy even though it doesn’t seem all that important. When you find something special in something ordinary. When you find something by accident, that is serendipity.”

Mica was thrilled that she had been right all along. Serendipity was everything she thought it was, as wonderful a word as it sounded. She hugged Mama tightly, then thought to ask again. “So would you like some more of my serendipity, Mama? Your magazine said it was the key to great success.”

Mama stroked Mica’s cheek. “I would love for you to share it with me all the time, Mica, not because the magazine said so, but because you have so much of it. And someday I want to be just as great a success as you are.”

Mica felt a great warmth flow through her. She rubbed her face against Mama’s dress to get as close as she possibly could and to smell the familiar jasmine scent Mama used. As her mother bent to kiss her forehead, Mica noticed that for the first time in a long, long time, Mama didn’t look tired at all.

"Flytt OL til et sted der det fortsatt bor folk. Tromsø er jo et stort lufthull! Knut, Oslo".

Tveksam, tveksamt. MEN men bakom projektet finner vi ett par jävligt smarta, modiga, snabbfotade entreprenörer. Så säger jag inte bara för att jag är god vän med en av dem. Utan för att jag vet det. Så finns det någon David som kan klippa till någon Goliat, så är det Douglas Roos och Patrik Sandberg.

Former opposition MP JB Jeyaretnam dies of heart failure

SINGAPORE: Former opposition MP and former Secretary-General of the Workers' Party, Mr JB Jeyaretnam, died of heart failure early Tuesday.

He was 82-years-old.

His son Mr Kenneth Jeyaretnam told Channel NewsAsia that Mr Jeyaretnam, who had a pre-existing heart condition, had complained of breathing difficulties at about 1.30am on Tuesday.

He was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital but doctors were unable to revive him.

He died of heart failure with both his sons, Kenneth and Philip, by his side.

A lawyer, Joshua Benjamin Jeyaretnam was the first opposition member to win a Parliamentary seat in 15 years when he defeated the People's Action Party's (PAP) Pang Kim Hin and the United People's Front's Harbans Singh in the Anson By-Election in 1981.

He retained the seat in the 1984 General Election, but had to vacate it in 1986 after he was convicted on charges of mis-stating his party's accounts.

Barred subsequently from standing for office, Mr Jeyaretnam returned to Parliament following the 1997 General Election.

That year, he was part of a 5-member team from the Workers' Party who contested in Cheng San Group Representation Constituency (GRC), and garnered 45.18 per cent of the votes against the PAP's 54.82 per cent.

A Non-Constituency MP seat was offered to the Workers' Party for turning in the highest votes by an opposition party, and this was taken up by Mr Jeyaretnam.

In the late 1980s and 1990s, the fiery opposition member faced several defamation lawsuits brought against him by PAP leaders, among them Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.

In 2001, Mr Jeyeratnam was declared a bankrupt and disbarred as a lawyer.

As a bankrupt, he was also barred from taking part in the General Election held that year.

Later, in October 2001 he left the Workers' Party he had led since 1971.

After he was discharged as a bankrupt in 2008, a new political party, the Reform Party was formed in July by the 82 year old.

Mr Jeyaretnam leaves behind two sons.

The family later said in a statement that the family is overwhelmed with grief and will make further announcements after the necessary arrangements have been made.

According to the statment from both his sons, Mr Jeyaretnam had spent his last hours at the Evelyn Road apartment of his son Kenneth.

"Earlier this evening he and I had enjoyed a light dinner and chatted and then he sat out on the balcony for a while before retiring."

The statement went on to say that the family was woken up at about 1:30am by Mr Jeyaretnam who was "obviously in distress" and was rushed to hospital.

"But unfortunately the medical team working on him were unable to revive him despite their lengthy and strenuous attempts. My brother Philip joined me at the hospital and we were then informed by the doctor in charge of his care that he had passed away" said the family in their statment which also gave thanks the medical team."

Most of the photos taken are the usual tourist shots with my parents posing in front of their hotel, beside famous scenic areas, etc. However, there is one particular photo which stood out. and it is this photo below:

It was taken in a restaurant selling dog meat. The cold, hard stare of the dead dog makes me feel extremely uncomfortable and disturbed that the Chinese can actually eat pet animals.

Now, there's Sun Tan (not sure if this is her real name). Here's a picture of Sun Tan, posing nude in public:

It's just one of the many pictures in a series, circulating on the Internet, some showing her performing explicit sex acts. There are also four videos of her having sex with a guy uploaded to date, including some scenes performed in public. The couple seems to be exhibitionists who likes to do it outdoor. Very daring hor?

The news about Sun Tan came out in The New Paper and Shin Min Daily a few days ago. Actually, I knew about this incident about a month earlier, but chose not to blog about it, hoping it will not blow out of proportion and the poor girl can keep her privacy. Now that the cat is out of bag, I guess there's no need to withhold the information any more.

All I have to say is she is really suay to have such an ex-boyfriend who can betray her this way.

Dacă va dor ochii şi nu aveţi chef de culorile ţipătoare de pe site-ul lor vă fac un rezumat. Titlul este "Amanta lui Tolea a trăit cu Fizz şi Liviu Guţă". În text însă nu există nici un amănunt, dar nici un singur cuvinţel despre asta, nici măcar numele lor nu apare aruncat aşa la derută. Mai mult decât atât, ziarul cancan cred că foloseşte cuvântul cuplat ca sinonim pentru copulat. Ar trebui să-i anunţe cineva că sensul este diferit altfel nu pot să îmi explic cum au putut să o cupleze pe "pârâta" Florina x. (numele complet nu apare pentru că nu interesează pe nimeni, evident) cu numele de scenă din filmele xxx în care e protagonistă "Sexy Brăileanca" (vai, câtă imaginaţie... Alinuţa e norocoasă, Plugaru e mai mult decât SUGEstiv) cu Liviu Guţă sau Fizz, când EA recunoaşte singură că se prostituează de când avea buletin. Hai să zicem că cei doi ar trece de dispreţul pe care îl au pentru femeile pentru care un sărut pasional înseamnă să îngenuncheze şi să deschidă larg gura... Dar cu o prostituată?! Niciodată. Cireaşa de pe tort? În titlu apare numele lui Liviu Guţă dar poza ilustrativă este cea a lui Nicolae Guţă. Ambele sună ca de "porc" aşa, dar  maneliştii s-au simţit ofensaţi. Puţin respect vă rog :D

Eu aş fi pus un alt titlu dacă voiam să fie şi senzaţionalist şi deontologic (vorba lui MB): "O să te îngrop ca pe Elodia!". Aşa susţine starleta că a ameninţat-o luptătorul de k1 atunci când aceasta a povestit presei de "relaţia dintre ei". Îţi spun eu "scumpo" (chiar, eşti scumpă rău? nu cred) ce l-a deranjat pe Tolea: ai spus că ex-ul tău, adică Ogică (şi tu ar trebui să iei Dex-ul în mâna, nu numai penisurile fără erecţie... dacă partener de-o noapte/oră se cheamă la tine "iubit") e de 10 iar Tolea e de 6, la capitolul sex, evident, ce alte evaluări ai putea tu să scoţi pe guriţă...

Nu ne spui şi care o are mai mare (păi se poate... nu ai fost învăţată să termini ce ai început?) Murim să ştim (Not!!!). Ia un centimetru la tine data viitoare şi nu uita să-ţi măsori şi burta dacă tot te-ai apucat, că o ai cam mare pentru o "divă" aşa cum sunt convinsă că te vor numi tabloidele în curând. Mai zic doar atât: dacă mai lezezi potenţa unui bărbat care se întâmplă să ştie să dea bine cu pumnul...  s-ar putea să ţi-o iei în bot şi altfel decât eşti tu obişnuită.

La noi se anunta cu mare tam tam casetele astea si pe urma te alegi cu un filmulet obscur cu pahare in cadru, in umbra sau cu vreo vedeta de mana a doua uitata de toti. Asta avem, cu asta defilam!

Molti di voi sono a conoscenza del nostro grande amore per la radio. Ascoltata per il tramite delle onde o del web. Sapete quali sono le stazioni da noi preferite (Radio3, Filodifussione, ControRadio, BBC, Radio Gas, Radio Popolare le prime che mi vengono in mente) e abbiamo notato con lei (sì EvaK) che quasi tutte hanno dietro musiche e parole un rumore di fondo e una regolazione dei toni pressochè costante e morbidi a differenza delle asperità e dei suoni appiattiti (tralasciamo gli argomenti e le scelte musicali) che fanno il paio con certa noia e faciloneria. di certe radio Comunque non è di questo che vi volevo parlare bensì del fatto che da lunedì cambia la programmazione di Radio3 e per quello che ho letto e sentito mi sembra anche in meglio.

Innanzitutto mi premeva segnalare, soprattutto ad alcuni amici appassionati di racconti della Grande Guerra e di Marco Paolini che la trasmissione “Ad Alta Voce” dove per un mese un attore legge e riassume un libro si sposta alle 14:00 e riparte con Marco Paolini che legge “Un anno sull’altipiano” di Emilio Lussu. Ricordo a tutti quelli che non possono che le puntate possono essere scaricate o ascoltate qui (dove troverete tutto l’elenco fino ad oggi).

Cambia anche la mitica “Storyville” all'interno della altrettanto mitica Fahreneit che ogni pomeriggio, una settimana alla volta, alle 16:00 fino ad oggi ha raccontato la musica, i gruppi, i cantanti dandogli la voce di alcuni personaggi. Bene, da lunedì ospita una giovane generazione di scrittori e scrittrici autrice di una serie di racconti settimanali al centro dei quali ci sara’ il rapporto tra musica e narrazione. Comincia Giampaolo Simi, che immagina la storia di un giovane che alla vigilia del suo matrimonio pensa di ricostruire il gruppo musicale con il quale ha attraversato l’Italia degli anni ‘80 e ‘90 in un intreccio di memorie e musica di Bruce Springsteen , Police, David Bowie, U2, Japan, Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, Litfiba, Ligabue. Niente male, no? Invece “Damasco” le prossime cinque settimane si trasformerà in “Mostri sacri” dove in cui una personalita’ della cultura italiana a conversazione con i due autori Roberto Andreotti e Federico De Melis (per capirci sono quelli che fanno le interviste la domenica pomeriggio per “i luoghi della vita” racconta gli incontri privati avuti nella sua vita con personaggi eccezionali. La prima settimana comincia Achilla Bonito Oliva con i “ritratti” di Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys, Toto’, Mario Schifano e Giulio Carlo Argan. Seguiranno i mostri di Sylvano Bussotti e Serena Vitale (che consiglio di non perdere né i romanzi tradotti da lei dal russo, né i suoi libri eovviemante di non perdere la sua piacevole erudizione narrata in mdo garbato).

Il fine settimana “Uomini e Profeti” ci sveglierà prima delle altre volte visto che viene anticipato alle ore 9.00 il sabato e la domenica quindi. Alle 9:30 inizierà “Tabloid”:

Una bella sorpresa di questi cambiamenti è il programma a seguire condotto da Marco Boccitto (che fino ad oggi conduce all’una di notte selezionando ottima musica con "Battiti"): “File Urbani” ci portera’ in viaggio nelle sonorita’ contemporanee delle citta’ del mondo; si comincia con una rotta ideale che da Istanbul passa a Citta’ del Capo e poi a Lisbona.

Per chi avesse voglia di ozi solitari e penniche pomeridiane la domenica potrà lasciarsi “orecchiare” da “Le Musiche della vita” in cui un personaggio del mondo della cultura racconta le musiche che hanno accompagnato la propria esistenza.

Il grosso dei cambiamenti comunque è la mattina che si svolgerà così: la mitica e imperdibile rassegna stampa “Prima Pagina” dalle 7:00 alle 8:30 (fascia che comprende il quarto d’ora internazionale, i tre quarti nazionali e le telefonate degli ascoltatori); dopo il giornale radio inizierà un nuovo programma intitolato “Faccia a Faccia” dove ogni settimana un importante editorialista della carta stampata intervista in diretta un protagonista della vita pubblica italiana, in una lunga conversazione a tu per tu senza sconti e senza rete. Inaugura la conduzione nella prima settimana la firma del Corriere della Sera Gian Antonio Stella; seguiranno la neodirettrice dell’Unita’ Concita De Gregorio e il cretinetti del giornalismo italiano Luca Telese. Alle 9:30 seguirà il nuovo programma “Tabloid”: dal lunedi al venerdi un’ora di notizie, fatti curiosi, spigolature e articoli di terza pagina letti e commentati da giornalisti di cultura e non, con la musica del Terzo Anello; Salvatore Merlo e’ il primo dei conduttori, a rotazione mensile.

Alle ore 11.00 la mattina di Radio3 prosegue con la consueta informazione e attualita’ di “Radio3 Scienza” che alle 11.30 passa il testimone agli approfondimenti dagli esteri di “Radio3 Mondo”. La trasmissione di una delle serie piu’ amate di Radio3.

Le sigle saranno tutte rinnovate ed eseguite e composte da Stefano Bollani. Come dire: niente male.

Upton Sincliar, author of books such as the Jungle had another interesting read titled The Brass Check (which i have yet to read but i will). The synopsis can be found here. In essence its really about promoting business interests of various constituencies (Politicians, businesses, etc.) through the mass media.

Now consider during that time whereby journalism was skewed to political or business interests and the masses had little or no control over the information they received. Pretty shitty reading things that were so skewed huh... Centralized power at play.... Our initial perception of this information is vital and given the limited resources back then, how can we not help but be skewed towards the tots these greedy ppl wanted us to think of.

Now consider today's world whereby, we the consumers, have total control of the information we receive. Yet we have businesses coming to PAY bloggers about adverting their products.

What's wrong u say, consider this first. Social media is about interaction between users. There is a certain level of trust if this interaction is built on a day to day basis ( Reading a blogger's post on a daily basis and have him respond accordingly builds a certain level of trust because of the similarities you 2 share.) Now extend this trust to thousands of ppl who read a blog and other blogs similar within a community. You begin to trust the opinions of the tot leaders within the community and the people who respond shape your perception.

Now these are the people getting PAID by companies to push a product to u. While I believe most bloggers work within an ethical set of rules about being truthful about the pros and cons of a product or service, there are some who would love to get their hands on more of that advertising fee. A positive review of the product or service with their readership will certainly influence some readers.

These bloggers don't work with the ethical code of a journalist to be objective. They can act on their own free will. What is that similar to in today's media? Here's a hint. Think Hollywood gossip, scandals of footballers and politicians blown out of proportion. Half truths that are not reflective of the true story and form perceptions amongst its readers because it sensationalizes things. What is that similar to you ask? A tabloid media. They SENSATIONALIZE THINGS TO GET MORE READERS (MORE MONEY)

Now move to the digital space and think about blogs. It's a people place after all. Would bloggers stoop to get a $3000 pay cheque to blog a positive review of a crappy product or service? Half truths that do not reflect the true story? Sensationalize the positives and not mention the negatives? Why not... People have been known to kill for less...

So here we are at a junction in social media, with marketers leveraging on bloggers as a medium to get a product or service out.

My question now is WILL THE BLOGOSPHERE BECOME THE NEXT SOCIAL TABLOID?

Will there be a set of guidelines to stop unethical bloggers from reacting this way and repeat the history that Sinclair mentioned about companies buying their message in the mass media?

With diary blogs more prominent in Asia, are we going to be the first to suffer from The Brass Check?

Sigh. The recent China milk scare has spread to the innocent White Rabbit Creamy Candy most of us grew up eating. Check out this article via CNA:

SINGAPORE: Singapore's Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) says its latest laboratory findings show that the "White Rabbit Creamy Candy" from China is also contaminated with melamine.

It advises consumers who have bought the affected product not to consume them.

The latest test results bring the total number of milk and related products from China imported into Singapore that are found to be contaminated with melamine to three.

The other two affected products are "Yili Brand" Choice Dairy Fruit Bar Yogurt Flavoured Ice Confection" and "Dutch Lady" brand of strawberry flavoured milk.

All the affected products have been recalled earlier.

Since September 19, AVA has suspended the import and sale of all milk and milk products from China.

These products include milk, ice-cream, yoghurt, confectionery such as chocolates, biscuits and sweets as well as any other products containing milk from China as an ingredient.

Retailers and importers have been instructed to recall these products and withhold them from sale.

As a precaution, consumers are also advised not to consume any milk or milk products from China.

AVA says it will not hesitate to prosecute any retailer or importer who fails to remove these products from their shelves.

Under the Sale of Food Act, anyone found selling unwholesome food can be fined up to $10,000 and/or sentenced to three months' jail, or both.

Consumers who have any queries can call AVA's hotline at 6325-7625 during office hours (8.30am-6pm, Monday-Friday).

First, it was Mai Ling luncheon meat and now, it's White Rabbit creamy candy - these are household brands we grew up with and been eating since our grandparents' time. Are we over alarmist as technology progresses or are the human bodies getting weaker? The older generations were okay eating these, why are we having problems?

Unik dan serasa sedikit bernostalgia... Di tulisanku itu BOLA menambahkannya dengan foto eks bek kiri Leeds dan tim nasional Irlandia, Ian Harte. Saat itu juga merupakan musim terakhir bek kiri asli produk Leeds yang terkenal mempunyai tendangan bebas maut tersebut bermain di Elland Road karena setelah Leeds degradasi, Harte pindah ke klub Spanyol, Levante, sebelum akhirnya musim lalu kembali ke Inggris membela Sunderland.

Selain Harte, musim itu adalah tahun terakhir beberapa pemain top bermain di Leeds, beberapa diantaranya adalah kiper Paul Robinson, Jonathan Woodgate, Harry Kewell, Alan Smith, dan Mark Viduka. Pelatih (caretaker) Leeds waktu itu adalah Eddie Gray yang menggantikan Terry Venables.

Musim dan tahun terus berganti, kini pemain-pemain yang memperkuat Leeds di League One berganti total. Seperti sudah menjadi tradisi Leeds, terus muncul pemain-pemain muda baru idola publik Elland Road, seperti Lubo Michalik, Alan Sheehan, Frazer Richardson.

Elva sang around five songs in total and there was no costume change. Much of the stage time was hijacked by two annoying YES 933 deejays who cannot stop yebbering. Despite arriving relatively early (we reached at 7.40pm when the showcase was supposed to start at 8pm), Leon and I still gotten lousy seats faraway from the stage because we refused to dash and compete for seats with the real groupies.
