And so it came to pass that it was the final day of Connect, and by Christ, was it biblical in terms

And so it came to pass that it was the final day of Connect, and by Christ, was it biblical in terms of weather. The rain fell and fell and fell all night all morning and all afternoon. Add to that a lunchtime TV football match featuring Rangers and Celtic - and remember, we are an hour from Glasgow here - and it meant a pretty poor turn out for the Young Knives, who kicked off proceedings.

This also meant that the rather fantastic Santogold was met with a slightly smaller crowd than the hype would probably have suggested. It's to her credit that she decided to play to the ones who were there, rather than the ones who weren't.

And those who had made it in were rewarded by a truly brilliant half-hour set. There's a touch of hip-hop, dancehall, trance, post-punk, pop and rave to the sound and it should be a mess, but isn't. Flanked by two unsmiling singers/dancers in military fatigues, she blasted out the latest contender for ELM's single of the year in 'L.E.S. Artistes' before a truly coruscating version of 'Unstoppable' really did get the wet crowd shaking off the Sunday afternoon lethargy.

She was also somewhat at odds with her media persona of unsmiling diva, having fun, cracking jokes and apologising for the weather (no need - we are Scottish, we are used to it.) The divine 'Lights out' is the best song Blondie never released and a reason to buy the album on it's own. She is just great

ELM decided to then go sample the delights of the Real Ale and Champagne Tents, before being left with an early evening headache - Camera Obscura or Elbow? Those who did decide on the Glasgow band reported an excellent set showcasing plenty of new material.

ELM, of course, went to see Elbow, and did not regret it for a second. From their hammy entrance to 'Starlings' they played a set which is pretty much what you'd want from them. 'Leaders of the Free World', 'Forget Myself' and a stunning version of 'Newborn' were matched by a much louder version of 'Grounds For Divorce' which ripped the tits off the recorded one and pissed on the wound.

Closing with a mass singalong of 'One Day Like This', Guy Garvey was both basking in and reflecting the crowds enjoyment. It was a truly inclusive festival set, and their 50 minutes seemed to rattle past in 20, which is always a good sign.

Next up, the always eccentric Goldfrapp, dressed in another shimmering poncho-thing, and she was excellent. great versions of 'A&E' and 'Number One' before the inevitable - but brilliant - run-through of 'Strict Machine'. She has a terrific stage presence and even managed to charm despite her unlovely accent.

West End Wookie had been saying all day that the rain would stop for Sigur Ros due to the power of the Icelanders music. And damned if the hairy bastard wasn't right.

I'm not going to accurately translate in words how special Sigur Ros were. If you imagine having sex with a long-standing crush, someone you never thought you could land, whilst eating raspberry ripple ice-cream and finding out your mortgage has been cleared by a mystery benefactor...well, that's only almost as good as Sigur Ros were.

Backed (for the last time, apparently) by Amina, their incredible, strange stageshow and apparel came straight out of a Tim Burton movie. Despatching 'Hoppipola' surprisingly quickly simply fed the crowds sense of wonderment. It was quickly exceeded by a mouth-watering take on 'Saeglopur' and 'Meo Blodnasir'.

The tracks from the latest album went down a storm. Sitting at a keyboard which looked as though it had been lifted direct from Willy Wonka's factory, the astonishing 'Vi? Spilum Endaluast' is the most beautiful, affecting, inspiring and downright lovely song you will ever hear. A massed dance and clapathon through 'Gobbeldigook' as silver paper fell and the people everywhere wore beatific smiles and punched the air and they were gone, leaving only an afterglow.

As Sigur Ros get older, more confident either, they aren't afraid to hide behind the glacial aspects of their work or the faceless stage persona of earlier days (five years ago they would never have asked the crowd to sing along with the songs.) They are so much cooler now they are warmer.

The Wookie remarked 'I'd hate to be Alex Kapranos right now' and he was right. how do you follow that? ELM decided they couldn't, and headed off. And we weren't alone - it seemed there was a post-Ros stampede.

So, how was Connect overall? It delivered more than it promised, in all honesty, but that was due to the performances of the artists and the spirit of the crowd. The organisers have to do better with the bill next year. They have got so much right - the unrivalled beauty of the location, the great food, the audience - that they just have to get the last bit correct too. Do that and they'll never need to worry about ticket sales again.

So, off and on for the past few weeks I have been doing yoga and prayer with a few other women (see Here for more on the original idea). I am still figuring out how to do this and what’s really going to work but it’s been a wonderful experiment for me so far. Over the next few months I will be leading yoga and prayer for women (everyone’s invited, so if you are in Prague and would like to be included in this please let me know). I would like to share on this blog what we do each week and a little about how it goes. So, here’s a little about today…

Today’s yoga time ended up just being me and my good friend, Carrie, which was a little disappointing for me, but God knows what we each need. So, I stuck with what I had planned and we had a nice time of reconnecting with our breath, our bodies and our God.

I started the yoga time by sharing what I’ve been calling God this week, “God who is”. That’s who I needed God to be this week… I needed him to just exist, to be. I needed to know and experience that God is. I needed Him to be with me and in me and with those I love and in them.

Then we watched the Nooma video, Breathe, letting the thoughts sink into our minds and our bodies with each breathe. Breathing in the blessing at the end, “May you come to see that God is here right now with us all of the time. May you come to see that the ground you are standing on is holy. And as you slow down, may you become aware that it is in ‘Yod,’ ‘Heh,’ ‘Vav,’ ‘Heh’ that we live and we move and we breathe.”

After that we did this yoga routine with a the cd Sigur Ros ( ) for music. (Disclaimer: I made this one up and I have no formal training or teacher’s certification.

Amen.

Loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it. Connect, I want to do it all again.

Got a big dose of the "wanna do it all again" blues this week. What a brilliant festival Connect is. Small enough to walk around quickly and easily, and to find your mates when you get lost. Great food (man oh man those smoked mussels are out of this world), some darn good music, new friends and old friends, some cracking dancing and plenty of mud and rain. Mud was really bad this year, liquid mud a few inches deep in places, but that doesn't stop the fun. As Billy Connelly says, "In Scotland, there is no such thing as bad weather - only the wrong clothes." Welly boots and a poncho and you're laughing. At the same time, one of my favourite moments of the weekend was walking all the way to the Loch Fyne Hotel & Spa on Sunday morning, as it was absolutely pissing it down. A couple of hours of leather sofa, sunday papers, tea, bacon rolls and some of the best mushroom soup I've ever had was just what Jamie the doc ordered. Brilliant.

Musical highlights definitely Sigur Ros, Beardyman and Crystal Castles, with Beardyman the best. If you ever get the chance to go see him somewhere, DO NOT MISS IT, absolutely incredible. Watching Kasabian next to the Duke singing away was pretty funny too... Also, and this is brilliant, just brilliant, we spent Sunday afternoon, between bands on the main stage, playing dodgeball and then we did a Hokey Cokey. Funny. Robert found this today. Hilarious, I'll quote so you don't have to go searching.
Random highlight: By Sunday afternoon, without a pair of dry Calvin Kleins in a four mile radius, lesser mammals would have thrown in the towel, or drowned, but one group of plucky Scots lifted the spirits of thousands when they staged a brilliant performance of the Hokey Cokey by the front of the main stage. Just brilliant!

The guy obviously likes to use brilliant almost as much as me! Quality, that's probably the first and only time I'll life the spirits of thousands in my life! What a festival, no way I'll miss it next year. Only one wee caveat, I'd love them to make the lineup a little more alternative again, like last year. But to be fair, the lineup doesn't matter at all when you're with such a cracking bunch of people. Love my friends.

“With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly” is the approximate translation of Sigur Ros

"With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly" is the approximate translation of Sigur Ros' fifth full length album and is maybe the most dramatic departure from their trademark sound so far. Previous albums have had songs that build up slowly to an emotional and musical crescendo; the songs had a panoramic sound that was unlike anything I've heard before. With this album, Sigur Ros have stripped things down quite considerably; gone are the sonorous guitars played with violin bows and the orchestral bombastics. In it's place are quieter songs that still manage to affect me like the older songs.

The opener "Gobbildigok" is an acoustic guitar led track that has a wonderful flamenco, stomping beat: it's a million miles away from Sigur Ros' sometimes glacial slowness. Most of the songs have a slower pace and a delicate musical feel. "Íllgresi" does however remind me of "Heaven" by Bryan Adams, so I don't know if that's a good thing, but it is a gentle and warm song nontheless. "Inní Mér Syngur Vitleysingur" is another feelgood track and one that showcases the much more prevelant use of brass instruments rather than strings.

The best track is unsurprisingly one of the longest; seven minutes into "Ára Bátur", a spellbinding choir joins into the melancholy piano track; less than a minute later an orchestra joins in. First time I heard this I was immediately reduced to tears. It's so raw and affecting, but it doesn't need any kind of huge sound to pull it off. And it's this that underlines how good a band Sigur Ros are; they've been characterised as one-trick ponies, albeit with one really good trick. But the songs on this album show they can craft beautiful songs with epic scope but still remain grounded and intimate.

[A live review so late it's almost completely redundant? Why yes it is...]
I don’t think that

[A live review so late it's almost completely redundant? Why yes it is...]

I don't think that a more exhausting festival exists. If it does I don't really want to know. 9 days of holiday, 8 nights of camping, 4 days of music. Music all night, coping with 34 degree heat all day. One of the best weeks of my life? Most probably.

Monday 14th, 3.30am, 90 minutes or so in a car to Gatwick. (Much love to my mother for offering to drive myself and L there and picking us up the following week at such silly hours!) Meet everybody else at the Easyjet desk - check in - security - flyflyfly - ohwowlovely we're in Madrid - sorting out metro tickets with my awesome Spanish skills (no really, screw you A Level Spanish, I'm brilliant at it when it matters) - tiring metro funtimes - 3 1/2 hours on a train to Valencia - the others getting a train an hour later because they didn't book - McDonalds in Valencia purely because it's close - another train - Liverpool boys telling me to drink their vodka - obliging - Benicassiiiiim - walking to the camp site - ohshitwecan'tputupthetent - beer tent - SLEEP 24 hours after we got up.

Then it's a few days of sleeping, exploring, beaching and drinking - until Thursday when the music started. We were right at the front of the main stage for the very first band coming on. Eager things that we are.

Krakovia were completely unknown to all of us, they're Madrid based, a little dark and very good fun. Slight oxymoron? Perhaps. I don't know. I chattered to some Spanish boys who were big fans. Next up were Nada Surf who proved that swearing actually really is very big and very clever by getting a crowd of thousands screaming the words to Blankest Year back at them (the lyrics being "oh fuck it, fuck it, I'm going to have a party"). After that we're right in the very front row for Sigur Rós who I'm assured were fantastic but I left after one song...

All because I wanted to see Lightspeed Champion over in the Vodafone tent. Most of my friends decided to stay and watch Sigur Rós so I accused them of being fools before spending 10 minutes or so shuffling out of the crowd with a couple of people who I assured would love to see Dev Hynes and that yes, it would be worth missing Sigur Rós for.

On entering the tent we were very excited by this:

[caption id="attachment_47" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Vodafone fun"][/caption]

It's basically a remote control blimp with a camera attached that flew around the tent between acts. We may be a little too easily amused I think. I went and bought some Fanta (orange-flavoured-sugary-additive-filled goodness for meeeee) and rambled on about how fantastic Falling Off the Lavender Bridge is and how excited I was. Friends were starting to get slightly bored of me but luckily Dev and his band came on-stage before they could strangle me. I was right, definitely worth missing Sigur Rós for. He played quite a bit of the album (including Galaxy of the Lost, Devil Tricks for a Bitch and Tell Me What It's Worth which everybody in the tent seemed to know the words to, something he seemed surprised by), 3 new songs all of which were very good but unfortunately I can't remember the names of (sorry), an interpretation of the Star Wars theme (probably one of the highlights of the week...we just stood and watched in amazement) and finished it all of with Midnight Surprise.

[caption id="attachment_49" align="alignright" width="225" caption="Dev Hynes, complete with hat"][/caption]

It was interesting to see Lightspeed Champion live, it's been said before that Dev's performance is weaker than when there are the female backing vocals to support him but I wouldn't agree with that. It's not better, it's not worse, it's just a little different and I like that the live performance isn't just a carbon copy of the album. Definitely worth seeing live at some point if you can, I'm certainly keeping an eye on upcoming dates.

After this my evening is a bit blurry, we sat down for ages, wandered around for a bit, went back to the camp site for a while, completely forgot about Battles (Argh, I hear they were incredible) and the next thing I know it's 4am and we're heading back to the main stage to watch DJ Supermarkt just because we're impressed by the name. We danced. We got tired. We went back to the tent and slept.

Friday, we get to the main arena quite late and end up seeing the very end of Babyshambles, getting there just in time to see them to finish their set with Fuck Forever. Saw the New York Dolls perform Piece of my Heart (singalongfuntimes) in tribute to Janis Joplin and then we then headed over to the Vodafone tent to watch Fujiya & Miyagi for a while. I'd never heard of them previously but have listened to their album Transparent Things a couple of times now, which opens with Ankle Injuries, a track that I was addicted to after hearing it that evening. All of this only to waste some time before venturing to the Fiberfib tent to see Hot Chip. We were right in the centre of the tent and so couldn't really see anything but the atmosphere was incredible. By the time Over and Over was played I think it's safe to say that the sweat was dripping off everybody, special thanks to my dear friend Andy who I ran into unexpectedly while out there who decided to wipe his hands on his sweaty body then put them on my face...lovely. Highly appreciated. I had to miss Spiritualized but I haven't actually read the best reviews of their set so I was probably better off seeing Hot Chip. I would have only really wanted to see Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating in Space anyway. Left the tent to Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper being blasted over the speakers and thousands of people singing along. After that it was My Bloody Valentine over at the main stage and as none of us can claim to be particular fans we sat down quite a way back and enjoyed the lasers that accompanied their show! They were nowhere near as loud as I expected them to be. We were fairly exhausted so headed back to the campsite for sleepytimes.

[caption id="attachment_62" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="MBV's laserzzzz"][/caption]

Saturday I'm afraid I can't really even talk about because I was plied with so much vodka (the girls forced me into drinking games) that I don't really remember it. I can tell you that I saw The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Kills and The Raconteurs and apart from that, not much else. I'm sure I thoroughly enjoyed myself though.

That leads us quickly on to Sunday or 'The Day of the Most Horrendous Clashes' as I like to refer to it. Leonard Cohen v. Death Cab for Cutie, Morrisey v. Justice. Eep. (Personally sicked by people who considered The Courteeners v. Morrisey v. Justice bad)

We started off with watching a bit of The National who are a band that everybody raves about and I've never really "got" why they're quite so fantastic. Sad to say I'm still not joining the legions of adoring fans even after seeing them live; maybe they're just not for me. As their set finished I realised that the FiberFib tent was actually running about 30 minutes late so dashed over to see a bit of Leonard Cohen on the main stage. A 100% direct clash with Death Cab was the most upsetting thing about Benicassim for me. Caught the first few songs and was amazed that considering the amount of people who had done nothing but complain about him playing, the diversity of the crowd. Despite being a fan and being raised on his music, I was determined to see Death Cab so sadly had to make my way back to the FiberFib tent and found my crowd in the very centre of the stage about 6 rows or so from the front. Well done to them for getting such a lovely position.

It was a varied set, I thought it might be a little too focussed on Narrow Stairs but was gladly proved wrong. (I do like Narrow Stairs for the record, I really like. I just also really like their other albums.) One of the (unexpected) highlight for me was I Will Possess Your Heart, on CD I find the introduction a little tiresome but live there was this incredible sense of what it was leading up to. I had a chat with some guys about whether they'd play We Looked Like Giants (they didn't) and before we knew it they launched into Transatlanticism and the set was ending. People left, we moved forwards. Next up, Calvin Harris. I HATE Acceptable in the 80s and The Girls. They're almost guaranteed to make me change radio station or tv channel if I hear them but bizarrely it ended up being one of my favourite sets of the festival. Whatever is said about him, it can't be denied that he and his band have a fantastic amount of infectious energy and you can't seem to help singing along to tracks that you previously thought hugely irritating. We were right at the front at this point so I got to high 5 Calvin as he ran around the press pit. I'm easily amused.

Their set finished and nobody moved. Fairly sure that nobody left the tent and more people were pressing in all the time. We watched with eager anticipation as amps were brought on and seemingly hundreds of cables were plugged in.

[caption id="attachment_63" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Setting up for Justice..."][/caption]

The whole time the tent was just getting hotter and hotter but we were in the second row, there isn't any chance that we were moving to get water or fresh air. It got busier and busier until the point that you couldn't move at all. I don't mean you'd have trouble getting out if you wanted to, I mean you were rooted to the spot you're stood on. I mean that lifting your arms from side was difficult because of how closely packed together everybody is. I mean that if your did somehow manage to lift your arms you had better not want to put them down again because it was just not going to happen.

When Justice finally come onto the stage, the tent erupts. You immediately realise that for thousands, this is the most eagerly anticipated moment of the festival, of the summer, of the year. Unlike most English festivals there is an unspoken unity between nations at that moment. We're surrounded by English, Spanish, French, Maltese, Greek, so many countries gathered in a modestly sized tent on the east Spanish coast. Although that sounds like some message of peace, that tent couldn't be more alive with thousands of people jumping and clapping, screaming and waving huge crucifixes to the French duo's opening songs. Although there is absolutely no malicious feeling amongst the crowd it isn't long before the Spanish security team begin pulling people over the crush barrier at the front. A tent built for 10,000 has been filled completely to the brim and outside there are thousands more. As the act progresses, the heat becomes more oppressive, the crowd more manic and about 4 songs in, the security team make the motion to pull me and a friend over the barriers and we decide that it's probably worth it.

[caption id="attachment_64" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Justice!"][/caption]

During that process, my shoe is lost and I get grumpy that I'll be walking back to the camp site barefoot. As D.A.N.C.E picks up we ponder whether we'll ever see the boys again who are still stuck in the very centre at the very front. As we watch from the side of the press area, the boys calmly stride out, holding my shoe aloft. We hang around for a song or two more before we decide to pick out way out of the tent.

[caption id="attachment_65" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Our "WE HAVE SURVIVED" photo."][/caption]

This takes us a good 10 minutes or so of climbing along the side of the tent, picking our way in and out and as we finally reach the entrance we realise that we've only completed half the journey. For every person in the tent, it seems there is another one outside. Now that we don't feel like we're about to die we decide to stay in the middle of the crowd outside so that we can see (or rather hear and dance madly to) We Are Your Friends as their finale.

[caption id="attachment_66" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Looking towards the tent"][/caption]
[caption id="attachment_67" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Looking away from the tent"][/caption]

As the track finally begins to die, we walk over to the main stage just in time to see Morrissey whining about techno and people that are currently watching Justice. I decide that Morrissey is an idiot for about the hundredth time in my life and as I prefer The Smiths to his solo work anyway, we wander round the arena chatting to people and generally relaxing after the madness of Justice.

Eventually we decide to head back to the camp site and spend hours talking while the sounds of people refusing to let go of We Are Your Friends continue long into the night.

Monday night is the beach party and we have a good time until some morons think it's a good idea to rip up the decking that goes along the beach to use on the bonfires. We go back to our tent at about 4.30am and realise there is no point sleeping. I nap for half an hour or so and then we're awake, packing the tent up and beginning our journey home which is beyond exhausting. Naps are taken as often as possible throughout the day and the Benicassim adventure ends with us arriving back at our own beds at about 00.30 on the Wednesday morning.

Tips for future Benicassim-ers:

1. Don't listen to people who tell you that one camp site is hugely better than the other. It's different for everybody and most people will fall in love with wherever they stay. We were on CampFib by the arena and when we visited friends staying at Benicamp we were glad for it. Others thought Benicamp was 1000 times better.

2. Suncream is your friend and nobody is too cool to cover themselves in it. I got burnt anyway and it wasn't fun, I dread to think what it would have been like if I hadn't bothered at all.

3. Book all your travelling in advance. 2 of us did this, the rest of our crowd didn't. Long distance trains WILL be near to or fully booked and our return journey was panicky when I spent 10 minutes sorting out tickets to Madrid from Valencia for K & B. The friends I ran into out there had to get a train out of Benicassim a day earlier than their flight because all other trains were fully booked. There are thousands of people trying to get out of the town, it's common sense.

4. Water water water water water. Drink it. Lots and lots. Even if you're not thirsty. Especially if you're camping and so being subjected to high temperatures constantly.

5. Accept that you're going to be incredibly tired for over a week. Music continues until about 7am and by about 10am your tent will be unbearable.

6. Minimise your drinking within the arena because as with all festivals it's pricey. We made do with drinking spirits before going in as things are cheaper over there. Either that or making our own sangria which was stupidly cheap.

7. Don't pitch your tent on an ants nest. Not that we did that or anything...Aftersun made a surprisingly good insect repellent though, we wasted a lot on the damn ants.

Have some tracks by artists that played at Benicassim because I've neglected you for so long:

MP3 Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Follow You Into The Dark | Website / MySpace

Now that I have Sky+, most of you who've known me for more than five minutes would assume that most of my time in front of said box will be spent watching movies and music videos. And you would be correct. There have been a lot of "greatest video ever" countdowns on mtv's various stations, and then I guess you can vote online, I'm not sure if they're going to make some big collective or just stick with the "every station has its own countdown for its own viewers" theme they already have going. On most stations its pretty typical, you get things like Ah-Ha's "Take One Me," Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer," Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues," you get the picture. And the number one always ends up being "Thriller" or "Vogue" or something from one of those two, which is all fine, I would not say any of those videos don't belong in a top videos countdown, but personally I think MTV2's top ten was the best I've seen, as its a good mix of newer and older videos, but all hands down awesome. Not being exactly what I'd pick, I have yet to come up with my definitive favorite videos, so you'll have to bear with me (I have a birthday party tonight and a weekend away, so deal with it) while I simply post the MTV2 results:

1. bjork - all is full of love
director: chris cunningham

All around interesting choices, many of which I wouldn't dispute. While I do think Chris Cunningham's "All Is Full Of Love" video for Bjork is a beautiful piece of art, for me its not the number one meeting of music and video in a single work. "Around the World," while certainly being a classic, isn't my favorite Gondry video. I could go on, but I'll leave it at that, more choices next week.

Have a great weekend!

This was fortuitous, as I’m going to see Mogwai in Portland next week. :) The Government Sessions was my first experience with Mogwai.
A little bit too hotel lobby jazz for me compared to some of J.Sco’s other stuff… but great for reading through employee benefit audit guidance.
Cincinnati quirfolk duo… but one of their more straight forward songs… they haven’t put anything out lately, I don’t think. I may have to poke by their website when I get home tonight. http://www.theshedsmusic.com/
Two FZ tunes in the 10-song spin… what are the odds? Well, actually, they are 1,110 available FZ songs out of 14,678 non-replacing permutations (all songs currently on my iPod) would be a 0.57% chance for 2 FZ to land somewhere in the first 10 spins (unless I did the math incorrectly – which is highly likely, as my stats book from last term was borrowed from a colleague). Anyway… fun song, complete with a pretty bad, but funny, Bob Dylan impression.

Caedmon’s Call “I Just Don’t Want Coffee” from I Just Don’t Want Coffee -EP-
This one has different lyrics from the Warner debut version. It’s one of the more compelling, and thankfully not Jebusy, Derek Webb-penned early Caedmon’s tunes. Derek Webb is a great songwriter. Even though I have philosophical differences with him, I still love him and his music.

Yann Tiersen “Soir de fête” from Rue des Cascades
Yann, you wiley devil. Great instrumentalism with the grounded feel of folk music, but the fun of a circus parade.

Well, I shant type robustly about the 11th and so on shuffled tune… even thought I want to (#11 was Estradasphere and #12 was Isis). Anyway, that’s just a peak inside my ears this morning… check any of them out on iTunes or the Amazon.

I’m leaving in a few hours to go up north (Flagstaff/Payson) for a relaxing week away with Jes

I'm leaving in a few hours to go up north (Flagstaff/Payson) for a relaxing week away with Jess before Cruz is born. The only thing on the schedule for the next few days is 2 games of golf with my good friend Justin Dodson. Other than that, there's no itinerary and that's how we plan to keep it!

Reading, walking, sitting on a porch, taking in God's grandness, and enjoying 75 degree weather.

The other part of the trip that I'm excited about is driving up to Payson tonight to drop off our dog Audio at my grandparents house. It's just going to be me, Audio, and the radio with the windows down (Jess is coming up tomorrow...I'm not forgetting her).

There's just something about the open road with some sweet tunes and the fresh breeze that makes me smile.

Some people can't handle being alone on a road trip, but I relish it. Especially when you get to sing at the top of your lungs, and you're alone with your ideas, and there's a beautiful landscape streaming past your car.

It's one of my favorite things.

So my question is, what do you play at full volume when you're hitting the pavement by yourself? Right now, I have an eclectic mix of Explosions In The Sky, Sigur Ros, Coldplay, Charlie Hall's new album "The Bright Sadness", and some other various worship stuff.

What's your favorite road trip music?

Sest 6. oktoobril esineb Club Hollywoodis KLAXONS!!! Info põhineb kaks nädalat tagasi kuuldud kuul

Sest 6. oktoobril esineb Club Hollywoodis KLAXONS!!! Myths of the Near Future on ikkagi mu senise elu tipphetkede tunnusmuusika, ärgem seda unustagem.

Artisti: Sigur Ros

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kymmenminuuttisen tunnelmapalan parhaina hetkinä huomasi olevansa kananlihalla.

Istumakatsomokin, seisaallaan.

Kaikki on hyvin...

Being one of the two big concerts I decided to attend this summer, I was pretty excited to see these guys, having just recently gotten into them. Had bought two tickets but since none of my lame ass friends wanted to go, I gave one to my mum.

Got to Riga 3 hours early so we had time to go and see The Dark Knight. At risk of sounding mainstream I'm going to say I enjoyed the movie from the beginning to the end. This proved that superhero movies can be dark and have a good plot, and not fail. The performance of Heath Ledger was mind-blowing as well. Not a movie that will last for generations but easily best Batman movie for me and so far the favourite of 2008. My rating: 9/10.

The movie went on longer than we expected so had to rush to a taxi to make it to the concert. Took our seats a couple seconds before Svefn-g-englar started off the show. They went on and played all of my favourite songs and I had a pretty hard time convincing my mum that the vocalist's a dude. Gotta say the performance was almost flawless and was as good as the post-rock genre gets. I especially loved the tracks Sæglópur and Inní mér syngur vitleysingur. The two hours that the show lasted went past pretty soon and we left the concert full of energy and great experience. Though the Metallica concert I went to in 20/07 was obviously much more fun, I wouldn't say I enjoyed this less.

Before leaving Riga the next morning we had some time before bus so we went to see Mamma Mia! which I wasn't that interested in but ended up quite enjoying. It was fun right from the beginning so I just turned my brain off and went along with it, just like I did with Hairspray. My rating: 8/10.

Just enjoy this amazing song. Below are the lyrics and you'll find a beautiful explanation of the lyrics here. I'll post more soon about why this song means so much to me.

Essil on
Essil on erifet al
Essil on
Essil on eriftel al
Essil on

I travelled through light
I travelled through light; I am not afraid
