Oh, I don't know! As I hope you can tell I've not been very well for some time and I'm finding it hard to be positive so I generally don't like to post negative blogs, cursing the world for my pain! So I thought I'd just do a nice easy, breezy, beautiful update to let anyone in cyberworld out there who cares know how I am! I am getting pretty bored of my routine hospital visits, but putting up with them. I had cleared my hands of infections but one has emerged today - I'm back on antibiotics. I took myself off that Thyroid tablet after two weeks because, though it may not be related, when I started taking it, I couldn't sleep on a night. No problem sleeping during the day, only that effs up my schedule - which I actually do have! Band practice is going swimmingly and I've written two new songs, though one is selfishly personal so you probably won't hear it anytime soon. I've been appointed Editor of our first music video... which contains very little footage of the band (the, um, Band without Name!), and it's to a cover version, but we rock it! And I finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: What a ride! A bit easy on the end but no less magical. Overall I'd say it was either my 3rd or 4th favourite of the 7. I haven't managed to get any more writing into this hectic schedule, but that doesn't mean I've stopped again, I'm just preoccuied. I'll wrap it up there for now, sorry there's been no vLogs, I think I'm over being in front of the camera. But my editing bug has been rekindled, so expect other videos soon. I hope life's been treating you kind, readers!

Eu adoro a unha do meu dedão do pé esquerdo. Ela tem esse rachadinho desde meus cinco anos de idade. Acho que até antes. Não me lembro muito bem como quebrei a minha unha fazendo com que ela ficasse assim para sempre. Por mais que eu corte e ela cresça, ela vai sempre continuar com sua cicatriz.

Eu me recordo de uma vez que caiu uma fita VHS numa unha do meu pé e ela ficou preta e caiu; e lembro que arrastei alguma unha do pé num tapete de pedra, assim que levei um tombo. São memórias meio vagas pra mim; às vezes elas nem aconteceram mesmo...

Igual até uns anos (uns boooons anos) atrás eu podia jurar de pés juntos que Elisa (minha irmã mais velha) dirigiu até certo ponto e voltou pro lugar de origem, e ficamos nós duas lá dentro do carro, como se nada tivesse acontecido. Mas isto só para os outros. Na minha cabeça ela dirigiu com uns seis anos de idade. Na minha cabeça, eu consegui dar uma volta perfeita em uma bicicleta estranhíssima ao redor do condomínio que a gente morava nos Estados Unidos e depois nunca mais consegui andar nela direito de novo.

Essas coisas da vida são engraçadas... Tipo quando do nada você sente um cheiro que não está no lugar no qual você se encontra. Um cheiro que você não sabe onde já sentiu, mas que mesmo assim te traz um sentimento bom. E depois você não consegue senti-lo mais! Só vem quando ele bem entende, como que pra te lembrar de coisas que você não lembra lembra (a repetição foi proposital), mas sabe que são coisas boas. Memórias felizes. Acho que a infinita unha rachada do meu dedão desempenha o mesmo papel: me fazer lembrar de quando eu era criança e livre.

Sinto pena das pessoas que não sabem como é essa sensação. Ter uma infância mal vivida é praticamente o mesmo do que ter uma vida inteira abordada por um vazio, que muitas vezes tenta ser preenchido com coisa-ruim.

Claro que pra toda regra tem exceção.

Mas, anyway, eu tive a melhor infância do mundo, modéstia à parte. Continuo tendo... Nem cresci tanto assim, não é mesmo? ; )

Entrelaçaremos as mãos, por agora. Sem pensar que um ou outro dedo, se encavalite e faça doer. Faremos das nossas mãos o nosso coração. Naquela forma conjunta que lateja de tanto apertar. Sentiremos as veias a querer sair dos punhos até rebentarem e se unirem. Soldadas.

E vamos rir. Vamos querer sair a correr pela areia, sem tropeçar em buracos abertos.

Faremos a quatro mãos o castelo onde assentaremos morada. Numa das torres, quero guardar um sino aberto, sem batente. Não quero nunca que ele anuncie o fim de nada, nem de ninguém.

Do alto da varanda distribuiremos sorrisos ao vento, enquanto ele nos canta de assobio.

Sairemos com as nossas asas bem abertas. Doravante, não haverá mais frio que nos corte o coração.

So let me just start out by saying that my school is essentially Charles Xavier's School for the Extremely Weird. That's the requirement for getting in. You have to be weird. I'm dead serious. And I'd love to give you some examples of weird kids that I've met at school, but I need to get some of my other thoughts written out, because let's face it, that's the only reason I blog.

So I'm going to skip all of the weird kids and move onto someone, who, to stick with the secret agent codename thing I've got going on here, I'm just going to call her. For those of you who aren't following my color scheme, that's because she's...well, because she's everything she was, but, dare I say, more. She's only a few months younger than me, she's decided to try to grow up, which she has yet to do, and hello, she likes me. And not in a, "Yo, 'sup, Jake, have you played The Force Unleashed yet? YOU CAN GET A BLACK LIGHTSABER!!!1" way, more in a, "Young teenaged girl who's version of a once-over has just started progressing bellow the neck," way. But I can't even look at her eyes, let alone be friends with her, let alone anything more than that because every time I look at her I zone out and get lost in memories that I didn't know I still had rolling around in my head. I should be interested in her, right? I'm being taunted with everything I've ever wanted and I don't want it. Why don't I want it? I don't even know what I'm thinking anymore. Or IF I'm thinking anymore.

But now that I'm done with my weekly dose of angst, I've got another fun story from this week. I'm sitting around, minding my own business, (which is, you know, staring at the floor,) when a DIFFERENT randomgirl comes up to me. "Woah, Jacob," she says, as she proceeds to examine my arm like she's getting ready to dissect it, "You're ripped!" After an extremely awkward silence and me making sure that my jaw didn't drop out of amazement, I mumbled, "Oookaay," and proceeded to walk off to do some useless math I was never going to use after that day. Smiling.

Sorry for the sloppiness of this post. I'm still not really in the mood for writing, but I did it anyway. For some reason.

Donde el Frank Castle de Thomas Jane era un maestro plantando trampas y haciendo volar a los mafiosos en explosiones cada vez más grandes, la versión de Ray Stevenson te puede hundir la cara de un puñetazo o dispararte hasta que se te caiga a pedacitos. Así es: pedacitos de rostro humano volando por los aires. Lo mejor de todo: Jigsaw (que se ve como en 6 cuadros de todo el trailer). En realidad habían avances dando vueltas desde hace un tiempo, pero es bueno confirmarlo, después de que casi no sale la película por un problema entre la directora Lexi Alexander y la gente de Lionsgate, socios de Marvel Studios en múltiples proyectos (ver más aquí y aquí). Sólo queda esperar el estreno a inicios de diciembre.

Ambush Bug y la espiral del silencio (o "no entendí el chiste")

Apunto un comentario curioso del dibujante y escritor de cómics Keith Giffen en CBR, que nos cuenta que en el número 2 de Ambush Bug: Year None (miniserie de tono burlón co-escrita y co-dibujada por Giffen) apareció una página completa sin globos de diálogo, y lo más curioso de todo es que prácticamente no hubieron comentarios respecto a esta falta de texto en el cómic.

Hay que entender dos cosas primero. Por una parte, que la publicación de historietas moderna funciona como una cadena de montaje: escritor, dibujante, entintador, colorista y letrista o rotulador (aprende más aquí). Por otro lado, que los aficionados son por lo general miles de frikis alrededor del mundo de lo más exquisitos que no te dejan pasar que Norman Osborn se parezca d e repente a Tommy Lee Jones, o que un número salga una semana más tarde por algún motivo.

Sabiendo que el público es tan inclemente, Giffen suelta dos posibilidades: o que a la gente no le importó (ver punto sobre miles de frikis que no perdonan), o que creyeron que se trataba de una broma que nadie entendió pero además nadie quiso manifestar que no la cogió. Un buen caso de El traje nuevo del Emperador, y estoy seguro de que cabe en la descripción de espiral del silencio.

La página de los diálogos perdidos aquí. Salvo cierta fascinación por el difunto Blue Beetle, no hay forma de que los dibujos solos tuvieran sentido. Aunque seguro que si no leía la columna de Giffen la trataría de interpretar y reinterpretar hasta que me sangraran los ojos.

getting closer to style/mood that I want to be working towards. This time sound is generated by field recordings off of mino and slowed down to a near halt, giving the sound spacey reverby type sound. I want to start incorporating voices into my pieces more, or at least some kind of conversational tones. Not sure I want them to be more "recited" or improvisational. Not quite sure yet. Feeling under the influence of Phil Solomon's new work, since he just had a screening here @ the siskel center that I'll probably write about later. For now just this:

Impacto de los blogs en la comunicación empresarial: Dell Hell

Hacia mediados de 2005, un periodista americano (from the States) llamado Jeff Jarvis compró una laptop Dell con el servicio domiciliario por 4 años.

Qué tiene esto de interesante? Para Jeff una PC más y para Dell una venta más... si no fuese por la tormenta que se desató luego. O el hell (infierno) en el cual Jeff se vio inmerso por la pésima experiencia cliente en Dell. (No viene al caso pero ya saben que siempre hilo para cualquier lado: esto de experiencia cliente me resuena... sólo para entendidos co-workers argentinos)

Tenemos varios elementos sueltos, pero todo gira entorno a la seguidilla de posts que Jarvis publicó en su blog (BuzzMachine) documentando la escalada de hechos con su nueva Dell. No es mi intención aquí narrar cada uno de los incidentes, lo pueden leer por orden cronológico. Si tengamos en cuenta que:

- el servicio domiciliario no era tal: Jarvis se quedó 2 semanas sin PC pues los técnicos no llevan repuestos.

- según los posts, el "cero inventario" y el bajo costo deviene de que a mismo modelo de notebook, distintos componentes internos = incompatibilidad para intercambiar un hard-disk de una a otra

- nadie en Dell leyó remotamente alguno de todos los blogs o posts. Y los mismo creo ocurre en otras grandes empresas.

- Jarvis llegó a escribirle un mail directamente al chief marketing officer obteniendo una tibia respuesta de parte de una rep.

- como punto cumbre, Jarvis le escribe carta abierta a Michael Dell

Lleyendo esta carta y sumando algunos conceptos que estamos viendo en otra materia con Felix Cuesta (Estrategias de fidelización de clientes), me pregunto, ¿acaso no resulta obvio que en esta nueva era de medios un cliente insatisfecho puede amplificar sus recomendaciones negativa y acelerar la pérdida de clientes (o sangría según el caso!)?

Visto de otro modo, me refiero a que el valor potencial que podemos perder en manos de un cliente insatisfecho puede ser del 70% o más del valor global de un cliente. Entiendo valor global en términos de lo desarrollado por el profesor Cuesta: compras del cliente +recomendaciones positivas + recomendaciones negativas, todo afectado por la cantidad de años que ese cliente se mantiene con la empresa.

¿Por qué Dell, empresa de tecnología, se mantuvo tan al margen de lo que sucedía en estos blogs? Quizás, y en tono vulgar, para no "echar más leña al fuego"? o quizás porque subestiman el potencial de estas nuevas herramientas de difusión? o quizás porque su cultura y dinámica empresarial aún no está adaptada? o...

Sin embargo creo que Dell debería haber entendido lo que Jarvis quería: simplemente una notebook que funcionase OK y que el servicio que le vendieron realmente fuera servicio domiciliario sin excepciones. Easy?

Nada tan costoso para una empresa grande aunque si muy difícil por estar fuera de todo procedimiento. Y mi breve experiencia laboral me demuestra que estos detallitos en una gran empresa equivalen a mover un elefante en un bazar.

Teniendo en cuenta el impacto social de este señor- recuerden que es periodista de larga data- con algún intento de disculpas por el fallo en la atención y ofrecerle una notebook nueva, al 4to post hubiera compensado y tema cerrado.

Me parece que desde la empresa fallaron en identificar el riesgo de este cliente insatisfecho. Y este en particular por tener acceso a medios y ser conocido.

Y más aún, Dell falló en escuchar y entender a sus clientes y ofrecerles servicio. De qué va hoy todo?? SERVICIO! Notemos la cantidad de comments recibidos, incluso con fecha reciente, a su carta abierta a Dell.

Como conclusión personal, hoy en día, ninguna empresa por más pequeña que sea puede darse el lujo de no-escuchar a sus clientes. Estos deben ser parte de los procesos operativos. Llegamos así a los "prosumidores".
