Jeez, I’m finding it a bit intimidating to write a first blog. What do I say and how do I say

Jeez, I'm finding it a bit intimidating to write a first blog. What do I say and how do I say it?

I'm sure that I'll stumble from time to time until I get the rhythm that I'm looking for, so I'm hoping that everyone will be patient and understanding. I also hope that I can share my information with you, without sounding like an advertisement. Yes, I will be talking about the businesses that are on NorthernNH.com as it is all about the living and doing business here in Northern New Hampshire.

Not every post will be about a businesses, I will also talk about the North Country, the happenings from town to town and share with you photos so you can also enjoy the beauty that we live with everyday.

Here in New Hampshire, otherwise know as the Granite State, the North Country, I started the directory NorthernNH.com for a number of reasons. Four years ago it was difficult to find a business or service in Northern New Hampshire.

We travel many miles in-between towns. Life has become so busy, time moving faster than ever, roads tough to travel in winter and somewhere in that time frame I was looking for an herbalist who supposedly lives in the town of Franconia, NH, it turns out that she had divorced and moved. I didn't have a clue. I spent so much time trying to find this herbalist.

I am a self-employed woman, running a cleaning service and all my customers were asking me, "where do I find a good plumber, a good dentist", who do you recommend as a trust worthy, dependable Realtor, etc.

That's when I decided to develop a directory for Northern New Hampshire. It's been a rough road as I was new to this type of business. I knew that I wanted to support the community and businesses (it's always been important to me to help others) and pull all of this together.

It was an interesting start as the competition was tough. I didn't realize how tough it could be, actually I didn't know that it existed. I have always been supportive of others in business and celebrated their successes. I thought others would be happy for me and just as supportive. I learned a difficult lesson and I'm actually, very grateful for the lesson, as I'm not the naive person that I once was.

Being new to doing a business on the internet I didn't understand how Google would have an effect on the directory.

A few years later, I'm still here with a much greater understanding about how this all works! I'm happy to say that NorthernNH.com comes up on Google, page one with the search for any and all businesses and services in Northern New Hampshire!

Although NorthernNH.com is a simple uncomplicated directory, it has a powerful database, the database runs smooth as silk, never a pause, hiccup or crash. Elegance in simplicity! Easy to navigate, 1,2,3 you're there! Alphabetical, by category, town, or business.

The database reflects my desire to be of service to the community and visitors by making their search as easy and pleasant as possible.

That's it for tonight! I made it through my first blog post and I feel great about it!

When I return I will give you a heads up on the businesses that are spotlighted on the directory and talk about life in Northern New Hampshire in general.

If you have pictures of New Hampshire that you would like to share, please send to: info@NorthernNH.com and I will be glad to put them in our photo gallery. Don't forget to give a description of the photo and your name. I would like to give you credit for your photo!

At your leisure, check out our social network for New Hampshire: The Granite Matrix! Feel free to join us and become a member!

Today is Labor Day and its time to plan this falls activities. Fall Foliage Trips are perfect for this year's economy. For most of us, there are great Fall Foliage destinations within a tank of gas. Here are some favorites:

New England Fall Foliage

Cruise up the Kennebec River or take the local ferries for Maine Coast Fall Foliage.

Almost any road and any town will reward you with views of the world-class Vermont Fall Foliage.

Massachusetts Fall Foliage with some history, in Concord, MA or at the seashore in Halibut Point.

Mid-Atlantic Region

Hudson Valley and Catskills Fall Foliage -Drive to Woodstock, pick up antiques and stop for the views at the Ashokan Reservoir. Visit the mansions overlooking the Hudson.

Further north, opening up the season is Adirondack Fall Foliage, definitely a place to get away from the crowds.

Combine the harvest festivals with Pennsylvania Fall Foliage near Lancaster in Amish country.

Bike along the Potomac for DC and Maryland Fall Foliage.

Central Park is pretty obvious for New York City Fall Foliage , but each borough has its own show. Combine with a medieval castle at the Cloisters.

Tour of some of the historic Gold Coast gardens and mansions for Long Island Fall Foliage

Cruises out of Pittsburgh for Southwest Pennsylvania Fall Foliage.

Rockies

Colorado Fall Foliage is about adding 14,000 ft snow covered peaks to your orange, purple, red, green and brown pictures.

Closer to Denver, enjoy Colorado Rockies Fall colors in the mining town atmosphere of Georgetown.

Canoe trips on the Rio Chama in New Mexico.

And last but not least, for our fans in the South - Virginia Fall Foliage is at its best in the Western part of the state, in the Shenandoah, Blue Ridge and (further south) Smoky Mountains.

My Dearest New Hampshire,

This coming weekend is Labor Day. I know we normally spend the weekend together but due to a number of reasons I cannot make the trip. For this, I am deeply sorry. We had so many wonderful things planned; hiking, sight-seeing, sleeping in, ATVing, fireworks (see above) and campfires (see below). As much as I wanted to enjoy these things with you, I must be realistic about my financial situation. Do you know how long it takes to get there? That equals a lot of moolah in gas.

When I was in college, everything translated into beer. "20 bucks?! That's like a case of beer..."

Ok. That's probably a bad example since a case of beer probably doesn't cost $20. That shows how my priorities have changed. I haven't bought a case of beer in so long. I don't even know how much it would cost if I did buy one. It's so sad.

Now, everything translates to gas. "70 bucks?! That's like 3/4ths of a tank of gas!"

Anyway, I hope you understand my predicament. I do care for you and find you necessary for my survival. October and November is right around the corner and you can rest easy. I always visit during those months.

I promise. No more empty promises.

Love,

Amber

Why do politicians (small time to big time) who are running for office always seem to bring up stup

Why do politicians (small time to big time) who are running for office always seem to bring up stupid, insignificant things like "My grandmother struggled to raise my mom and the six other children. She was single after my grandfather died and had to work two full time jobs as a secretary and a waitress just to make ends meet. She had an ulcer and gray hair by the time she was 29. That's why I'm here today." OR "My dad was a mechanic and my mom stayed at home with us kids. We barely had enough food to survive. But now, here I am, here for you." Did they have to walk uphill both ways in 3 feet of snow, too? Ugh! It seems nearly everyone's parents, grandparents or great-grandparents suffered, not just politicians, so why they use this as a tool to make them more appealing to the crowd is weird. Weirder still are the folks there cheering after such statements are made. :)

Personally, though I feel for your grandma and all her hardships, I don't care to hear about them now. It's old news. It won't make me vote for you. How about we just figure out what to do about the hardships our people are facing today. Focus on the present and future. The past is over with. Let's learn and move on. Clearly, you politicians are doing so well because of all of your predecessors efforts, and that's why you have to talk about THEM...because maybe YOU never faced it yourself. But, locally, I've got teens in my town with NO home, no parents who will sacrifice for them like yours may have for you. 15 year olds who are still in the 7th grade. Teens turning to drugs for "comfort"...drugs some of them are DOING with their parents. Absurd to me, but real. They're rejected by the people who are supposed to love them most, so don't you ditch them too. They are worthy of time and effort.

Let's just stop all the "fluffy" talk and schmoozing and get down to business. AND let's be adults and not slander each other to make ourselves look good. That's just lame. Just be real.

Here it is...on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, 14,480 square feet of living space, 9 bedrooms, 10 baths (8 of them full baths) on 29 acres. (Taxes? Only $65,000/year)......Asking price? $13,800,000.

Damn that Spectacle.

Tonight we made vibrations with winter itch.

Vibrations so strong they apparently inspired banging on the ceiling from the "neighbor" downstairs.

Acoustic sounds mostly, mind you.

Seriously though, winter itch.

Tossed away like out of style jeans, oh what a scene of troubled teens
Looking for love in all the wrong things, oh what a scene of troubled teens
when will we learn as a society
that there’s more to life than you and me
and do what’s right for the kids you see
we must take responsibility
or the grief we’ll make for future’s sake
the lives we break
through the things we take
it’s such a shame
this same old game
who’s to blame
I want there name
And so we keep on feeding
the old folks needing
more money we bets
creates bigger debts
creates huge regrets
but hey….it’s for the vets
do they really need another park
with another plaque
that will sit in the dark
what about the child
that’s growing wild
with the crazy dad
for the life he had
and the long lost dream
of a future man
with a future plan
and a future scheme
and what about the kids around
and the kids downtown
and the way they frown
it’s such a shame
to know their name
and to see them in
to be stuck in sin
to be hooked on drugs
like helpless bugs
under a scope
hung by a rope
and bound by dope
do we help them
nope.

WHEN WILL WE GIVE THE FUTURE OF BERLIN NH THE SAME AS WHAT WE GIVE TO THE PAST GENERATIONS
DO WE NEED ANOTHER MEMORIAL TO REMIND US OF OUR PAST?
DO WE NEED ANOTHER FACILITY TO TAKE CARE OF PAST GENERATIONS?
BUILD MORE FOR THE KIDS!!!
BUILD MORE FOR THE KIDS!!!
