The Mondays, an alternative rock band who we have been podcasting for over 2 years now will be busy this weekend playing four gigs in two and a half days. Thanks in part to their new airplay on Q104 (104.3 FM), Ken Carmen's exact words to me yesterday that "the phone never stops ringing now". And why should it? This is one talented band.

The Following is the amazing itenary coming up for the band this weekend:

Fri 5/16 Fisherman Quarter at 9:00 in Hampton Bays with special guest John Alberti

Sat 5/17 Central Park South NY City at the Healthy Kidney Martathon Finish Line at 8:30 AM. This band is certainly worth getting up for.

Its been my past time to watch random videos on YouTube. Most of the time, I watch homemade videos of musicians playing their instrument. Some guys are actually good.

I would have posted some of the good videos here but there are so many good videos that I have watched since the dawn of the DSL connection in our house. Probably because most of the people who don't play well also doesn't have the guts to post their videos, except only if they want comments on how they will improve.

Now, I've found out that there is a common denominator on how good performers play their instrument. They make it looks like playing the piece and their instrument is easy.

As I said before "Pillar of Autumn" is a unbelievable band, this guys are kicken ass all over Detroit. They've taken off with some out standing songs like "Asthma" which took #1 Detroit City.com Also make sure to check out "Miles Away" and "Carpe Diem" on myspace. We had the chance to talk these guys and learn a little more about them and there history. Check it out.

"Pillar of Autumn" is an awesome name, does is stand for anything?

The name came from the name of a spaceship in the video game Halo. We decided to use the name because of the influence the game has had on the creative process of the band. When we find ourselves stuck in a song, playing each other in first person shooters is something that helps us clear our heads. Except for when Rob cheats. He always knows where to hide and find the good weapons. Alright, maybe he's just really good... but we'll still call it cheating.

Spencer: "Rob Wishes he was as good at me at Halo."

Rob (replying to Spencer): "Spencer wishes he was as good as me at anything."

Know how your working on a six song ep, when can we look forward to its release?

We are currently in pre-production and are finalizing dates to get back in the studio to record the final tracks. So we're shooting for late summer but we haven't settled on the year yet.

You guys come up with some amazing lyrics, what's the writing process like?

Our writing process is quite crazy. We usually begin by jamming out melodies or rhythms that the band members have written that have caught our attention. Rob brings most of the musical elements to the table in the beginning, then we try to take the mess of parts and make it better. We repeat that until we find something that inspires us. Once we find that inspiration the song takes off. If we get lost, we look to each other to help out. Every member in the band can play all of the instruments we play enough to help with any part; it's a team effort to the fullest. Then when Frankie says it sucks, we try it all over again.

If you were given a million bucks and had to spend it in 24hrs what would you do?

Frankie; "Well, we'd probably start with our laundry."

Rob: "Buy new jeans so I don't have to do laundry. Ever again."

Spencer: "Forget our laundry. Let's throw a party for everyone who wants to come hang out."

Ed: "Cars and guitars."

Chris: "I'm with Ed on this one."

"POA" has done some kick ass shows in the past, what ones can we look forward to in the future?

We can guarantee that you will see plenty in the future. Our booking agent, Derrick, will be setting up our shows from arenas to your basement. We'll play them all. In fact, if you don't see us in your hometown and you want to see us play at your favorite venue, contact us and tell us about it. Don't let us get away with it. That's just lazy. We like to say "Every show we play will be better than the one before it, so if you come to all of the shows, every time you see us it's the best show you've ever seen from us." So to answer your question: You can look forward to every one of them.

Other than music, what's another thing you like to do in your spare time?

Rob: "In my spare time I play my acoustic (poorly), play open mic nights and listen to new bands. I guess if there is anything else I do, I drink and swear. A lot."

Ed: "What spare time? I guess it would have to be listening to sports radio on my way home from work. Most FM radio sucks and I don't have one of those fancy shmancy satellite radio do-dads."

Spencer: "I eat sleep and breathe music. I'm a musical fusionist and I work at Pearl Sound Studios in Canton, Michigan. It's a whole lot of fun and I love all the facets of working, writing, producing and engineering. It's great stuff. My favorite thing to do is write harmonies and crazy chord progressions. Other than that I party, make beats, play my acoustic and hang out."

Chris: "I really just love working on my cars."

Frankie: "I try to put every spare second I have into graphic design. I love many forms of art, but digital artwork has always been something I enjoy most."

If you could rock out in any city in the world that you haven't been too, where would it be?

Chris says "I've never actually been to California, and L.A. holds a lot of desire for me."

Spencer: "Tokyo, Japan. I hear they go crazy over there. That or somewhere in the UK."

Ed: "Somewhere in Brazil, cause backstage would kick ass!"

Rob: "LONDON!"

Frankie: "One of those ancient cities in China. A city that you would have to fly everybody to in a helicopter because there are no roads. Those do exist right?"

"Miles Away" is a great song, what's the meaning behind it?

Miles away is a song for a girl who shows no interest in a man’s desires and hobbies. It is to the point where he writes her a song to see if she even pays attention enough to realize the song is about her.

You have a huge fan base, any special things they should know about?

Earl Grey tea is named after the Earl of Grey, who was the Prime Minister of Great Britain about 100 years ago. At least that's what the Snapple bottle said. And also, Rob is single.

Showing off their contagious smiles, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens giggled amongst one another and their “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” co-stars during a movie press conference held on Friday (May 2).

And Zanessa are taking the third installment of their hit Disney franchise in stride, claiming that they’re not feeling pressure to top the success of the two previous films.

According to press reports, “The franchise debuted in 2006 as a Disney Channel original movie and quickly became an international hit seen by more than 250 million viewers in 100 countries and 20 languages. The sequel’s August 2007 premiere was seen by 18.6 million viewers, becoming the top basic cable telecast of all time. Disney says the DVD release topped all sales records for 2007 and the movie’s soundtrack went triple platinum.”

Unfazed by such grandiose numbers, Efron tells: “I kind of think of it as the third act. This is the third movie. We’re not looking to top anything, just to do it justice.”

Meanwhile, Vanessa said that the only pressure she feels is that the movie hits the big screen rather than going straight to DVD.

So not everything around here is perfect, and not everything that we do on Sunday morning is fantast

So not everything around here is perfect, and not everything that we do on Sunday morning is fantastic.

This past Sunday was one of those days.

Now worship was great, and one of our guys really lead me personally on a day that I did NOT feel like being at church.

But we did an parody song/rap as the opener which celebrated a certain demographic of volunteers that we're gonna remember for a long time - and not necessarily in a good way.

And there are even mixed reactions among our own department. Some folks enjoyed it, while most felt quite the opposite. I think we may all, myself included, have turned a blind eye in the wake of our collective DRIVE recovery...

And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

WORSHIP:

Happy Day

Blessed Be Your Name

Everlasting God

Now let me preface why I was not in a worshipping mood on Sunday. With the chaos of DRIVE and our regular Sunday stuff, I had been in this building for about 2,000 hours over the last 2 weeks, including playing a funeral of a friend and staff member on Friday. My kids barely recognized me when I saw them on Friday afternoon. Add to that my horrible May allergies, and that sums up the desperate need for some down time.

So, needless to say, the earlier 6:00 AM call time (due to no Wednesday rehearsal due to DRIVE) was a shock to the system.

You know what I'm talking about. I'm sure you're been there. Maybe you're there right now.

But I've been trying to find an appropriate piece of scripture to read over the guys and girls right before they go on stage. I'm also trying to continually remind them that the reason we rehearse so much is that so that playing the actual music becomes second nature, deep in their subconscious. That way our focus during the live worship set can be just that - worship. A purposeful choice they make to enter into worship to our Saviour - and not heads down in charts.

From chart to heart. Learn the music so it's INSIDE your heart come Sunday morning. Only then will you as a Worship Leader or band member be free to worship and focus on Christ during the service - and be an example of a worshipper to the audience, thus leading them in worship.

But it all starts with a CHOICE to worship.

Ha! Looking back, the irony of the lyric of one of our worship tunes:

My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name

Anyhoo - the verse I shared probably ended up being more for me, even though I was trying to tie it in with another one of that days songs...

Isaiah 40...

25 "To whom will you compare me?
Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One.

26 Lift your eyes and look to the heavens:
Who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one,
and calls them each by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength,
not one of them is missing.

27 Why do you say, O Jacob,
and complain, O Israel,
"My way is hidden from the LORD;
my cause is disregarded by my God"?

28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.

29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.

30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;

31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

So there you go. I'm glad He's strong, 'cause I am still some tired!

So I know you all go to North Point Music (.org!) for all your worship tune needs, but here's a revolutionary new site for guitar instruction and learning all those new and classic rock songs:

iVideosongs.com

And today their podcast is featured on the front page of the iTunes store!! VERY COOL!

This is a company founded by one of North Point's veteran guitarists (and Grammy nominee) Tim Huffman. And, just to give you some reference on the magnitude of this, he pitched the concept to Apple Computer co-founder Steve Wozniack, who loved it, and has been quite involved.

Tim has also used a host of Atlanta's top musicians to realistically and PROPERLY recreate the catalogue of tunes that YOU learn to. He's used a ton of guys that play at the North Point campuses, including:

.38 Special alum Scott Meeder

Kansas alum Mike Gleason

East to West alum Ashley Appling

Injected lead man Danny Grady

Studio veteran Pat Malone

This is a huge leap forward in teaching guitar and songs!

And, once again, you're welcome... ;)

Make a difference-Find a way

Let your light shine

Treat others with respect

Don’t be taken for a fool

Following another's path

Won’t make you cool

Discover who you are

Then soar high above

There is nothing more important than a father’s love

I follow your example you’re an extraordinary man

In all honesty, I think I am a well-rounded person with many interests in songs and tv shows and movies and events from after the turn of the millennium. I do not spend most of my time waxing nostalgic about my middle- and high-school days, which I am only too glad to have put behind me. But there is something about youtube that makes me want to find every music video I've ever seen or song I've ever listened to and watch it again and again.

Anyway, tonight's interest is Rufus Wainwright. Brandy introduced me to his music in what must have been either junior or senior year of high school. I still listen to his cds for days when I find them lying about my apartment, and they're always a pleasant surprise.

Rufus Wainwright-April Fool's
