DVBT mag ja ein feine Sache sein, aber so richtig sexy sind viele der USB Lösungen gerade für Unterwegs noch nicht. Auf der Suche nach Alternativen stößt man recht schnell auf Joost und Zattoo. Letzteres ist insbesondere für europäische und deutsche Sender zu empfehlen. Die Qualität ist zwar mittelmäßig aber für Nachrichten und gelegentliches Fernsehen allemal ausreichend.

Sowohl für Joost als auch Zattoo ist die Installation einer Software erforderlich. Diese Funktioniert zumindest bei WIN XP und MAC ziemlich stabil.

Alterntativ zu Fernsehen in Echtzeit ist Miro als eine Art "Video Podcast Software" empfehlenswert. Aber natürlich kann Miro noch vieles mehr.

I have always wanted an RSS feed for the most seeded torrent of any type of media (e.g. music, movie, ebook) so that you just import it in your favorite feed aggregator and then enjoy the most popular media there is. But, Mininova only offers an RSS feed for the most recent items uploaded. So, I went to Yahoo Pipes to do some rewiring. :D

This was the first time I used Yahoo Pipes so it took a little bit of time. After a few hours I created a pipe that will give you the most seeded torrent from Mininova given a keyword. Enjoy!

It Begins...

I'm not going to write much. I think I said enough in the video. I will say this though. I woke up this morning a tad early. Thought to myself "Hey, I should knock out that episode #0 video I was thinking about." Ran down to the basement, shot it, edited it and uploaded it all in an hour or 3. Then BOOM it's off to Taichi (which I don't really have any students for yet... BUT I got to be regular!) That shit is awesome.

Der NDR als meines Wissens erster öffentlich rechtlicher Sender stellt einige Inhalte als Channel im Miro-Player zur Verfügung. NDR-Miroseite.
Hoffe, da kommt noch mehr von den Sendern. Damit ein intuitiveres Fernsehen möglich wird und nicht nur privat hochgeladene Filme geschaut werden können (die meistens ja eh nur Kopien aus dem Fernsehen sind).

Viacom darf jetzt erfahren, wie oft auf Videos von deren Sendern (MTV) abgerufen wurden. Das Unternehmen hat vor Gericht gegen YouTube (Google) gewonnen: YouTube muß die Logdateien (wer hat welches private Video geschaut) herausgeben. Über die Identifizierungsnummer müssten die Videos, die für Viacom interessant für Urheberrechtsansprüche interessant sind zuordenbar sein.
Andere werden folgen (Produzenten wie Portale). Erinnert mich sehr an die MP3 vs. Musikindustrie Geschichte.

Mit der Zeit werden die Player wie Miro und joost vom PC direkt "in den Fernseher" wandern. Von Freunden bekomme ich Clips empfohlen. Leute die oft an der Spitze von Hitlisten sind, werden entweder von den "Profis" gebucht oder finden einen Weg, damit was zu verdienen.

Kommt sicher, dauert aber vielleicht im gewünschten Komfort noch ein paar Jährchen - spätestens, bis die Menschen, für die jetzt Web selbstverständlich ist (und keine hypoiden Versionsnummern braucht) zu den einkommensstarken Gesellschaftsschichten zählen. Bis dahin ist ja noch etwas Zeit für weitere Spekulationen.

My Barcelona vacation, Day 1: 21st of June 2008

My day started early, very early: I woke up more then an hour before my alarm was set to go off.
I think I was a bit overexcited and worried at the same time, since this would be my first trip abroad without family, friends or school... all by myself in a city I so far had only visited twice for merely hours (I had been to Barcelona for a short day excursion when I was staying in Malgrat de Mar and Lloret de Mar in 2002 and 2003).

So, on to the airport, checked in, blahblahblah (you all know what happens in an airport right?) and boarded on Clickair flight XG 1248, taking off on time at 9.45 AM.

Thanks to the plane being good as empty, I managed to have some rest (thank god!) and was thrilled when the cabin crew announced that we were approaching the city and had started descending. I could see the city the last 5 minutes of the descend, and believe me, seeing it put a grin on my face :D

Soon as I stepped out of the double glass doors of the gate, I found myself in a pretty big and hot building. Temperature announced on the plane was 26°C... and it wasn't even noon yet, so the hottest part of the day would still come!

Barcelona International Airport - El Prat de Llobregat (BCN) is a very long building, and it was pretty easy to find the baggage claim area, getting there took a while ;).

Before I left, I browsed several websites for info (most came from www.barcelona.com, and despite their listed prices needing to be updated it's still helpfull) and found out that taking the Renfe train would be cheaper then taking the aerobus. The train symbol was easy to spot in the terminal, and after an escalator, a passenger bridge over a carport, down a set of normal stairs and getting a one-way ticket towards the city, I waited for train number 10 to arrive.

My Metro correspondance was easiest to take in the Sants station, and Raul told me to get myself one of the travalcards for multiple days (available in 2-, 3-, 4- or 5-day version) valid for the entire urban transportation network.

Metro Line 3 would turn out to be my main form of transportation in the city, since it stopped right in front of my hotel, the Auto Hogar in Avinguda Paral.lel, a budget hotel and exactly what I asked Raul to book for me.
There's still an "old" and a "new" part: the block at the back has much smaller rooms, and look more dated compared to the rooms in the block facing the Avinguda Paral.lel, which are the rooms you see on hotel booking sites.
I was quite happy with my room, nr. 521, at the backside. The only thing I could complain about was the bed: it was 1.50 metres wide, but only 1.70 metres long, so I had to lie down diagonal in it or my feet would be hanging over the end.
Still, the room was clean and if you ask me that's more then enough for a young guy without company who would only be in there to sleep and shower.
On several "hotel review sites" it stated that the walls in the old block were thin, so I took earplugs along. That was a wise decision since across the hall were 4 German guys around my age who apparently loved going out all night and get wasted (I couldn't blame them, I have been to Lloret some years before doing exactly the same).

Getting a bit off track here, so let's move on ;)

I knew Barcelona had an ARTicket and wanted to get one since this holiday would be mainly cultural (I'm not a beach/resort-holiday type, it bores the shit out of me).

The museum closest to my hotel, and one of the 7 you could do with the ARTicket, was the Fundació Joan Miró. So, with me installed in my room after a quick unpacking, calling both my parents I had arrived safely and prepping my bag with a map, a "to visit" list, water and sunblock, I went out, took the Funicular de Montjuïc and just went right ahead to the Miró museum, got the ARTicket, and visited it!
And since it was already after 2 PM, so at the hottest part of the day, being inside a climatized museum was bliss!

The museum building itself (designed by Josep Lluís Sert) to me had an interesting play with lines against the completely cloudless and intense blue sky.

The collection of Miró himself was of course my main interest, and the gigantic Tapestry of the Foundation is really something remarkable. There's many halls devoted to him, spread over 2 floors and a sun terrace on the roof.
I like his more simplyfied pieces, where people are merely becoming lines, and where there's mostly some primary colors creating the shapes.

On top of the main collection there are also 2 smaller areas devoted to temporary exhibits.
"The nature of things" by Olafur Eliasson (winner of the 1st Joan Miró Prize in 2007) held many installations playing with, reflecting or distorting light. There were a couple you could just keep watching, being so simple but beautiful to watch it was almost hypnotising. There also was a room which held a large table filled with white Lego blocks, as a neverending morphing artwork, since the people could use the Lego blocks as they please.
"Kawai!! Japan Now" in the Espai 13. (a nice size basement hall for small temporary exhibits) was funny and confronting at the same time, "showing diffirent tendencies Japan experiences today". In the biggest part of Espai 13. there were all these mass-production artefacts, covered in transparent glass marbles of all sizes, pretty cool to see, sorta like bubbles you get when you put a cherry in a soda or champagne.
Next to that was a small area (more like a corridor or a passage) holding 3 holographic rifles... not sure what to think of that, and it was a real clash with the fun and happy feeling you got when you looked at the objects covered in "glass bubbles"...
The entire museum can be done in about 2 hours, faster if you're not into sitting on a bench now and then, gazing at and taking in the art (which is something I love doing).

Afterwards, I just went down the hill of Montjuïc, passing the MNAC, but leaving that for an other day since I noticed it was way too big to view it before it closed (the ARTicket allows you to visit each museum on it's list only 1 time within 3 months after purchase).

The Mies van der Rohe Pavillion was just at the bottom of the hill, a bit to the left. It was cheap to enter it, and noticed it was open for a couple more hours, so went up the hill again to go see the Olympic Stadium building (from the outside, not inside), the massive Europa square in front of it, and the dominating Torre Telefónica. After hanging out there, chilling a bit to have a drink (I had to purchase some more water, it was hot outside!) and of course, gazing at some hot Spanish guys behind my sunglasses :p.

I'm really thankfull (and I assume many people will be too) that Montjuïc has many escalators to go up or down this hill. But... I noticed a really nice statue on the monumental staircase in front of the MNAC, and... if you see a hot ass, don't you wanna go look at it? I sure did!
I went back to the Mies van der Rohe Pavillion and finally visited it.
I just sat down by the pond behind the shady blind wall of the pavillion as I got a call of Raul, YAY :D

Next I walked towards Parc Miró, since I thought "it's just down the street". Well, take it from me, in Barcelona, the streets are long :p

I did found a cash machine while walking towards the park, one called TeleBanco, and noticed it had a list of symbols, including the one on my debit card!

A slow and relaxing evening followed after the Miró park.
I took the Metro towards Plaça Catalúnya, strolled down on La Rambla and simply had a pita at Pita Inn (I think, could also have been Pita House) which was funny to eat cuz you had to enter your own vegetable toppings (in Belgium they do whatever vegetable you mention in it for you).
I continued my stroll untill I reached the small street going to the Plaça Reial, where I wanted to have a drink after that pita. I went to the only corner still having a bit of sunlight, and was very lucky that a couple was just leaving as I arrived, and took a small coffee.
After half an hour, the sun wasn't shining into the enclosed square anymore, and I figured it would be behind the hills surrounding Barcelona soon, so quickly continued my stroll towards the Rambla del Mar to watch the sunset, followed by a quick visit to MareMagnum (a mall, but I left quickly since it was waaaay too tempting with all the nice clothes, shoes, boots, and other nice stuff we don't have in Belgium).

Still not in the mood for bed, I searched which metro to take towards the Sagrada Familia, cuz I was interested to see that at night. Wasn't easy to get there as they're doing some improvements for the disabled in all metro stations in the city, and at one stop where I had to transfer onto an other line I had to make a detour of a full block to reach that other line... oh well, it's good for digestion I s'pose.

After looking at all sides of the Sagrada Familia, and quickly grabbing a burger in the nearby McDonals before it closed, I took Metro Line 5 back to my hotel, showered and had no trouble sleeping :)

Uefa-Panne, Schweizer Fernsehen ist klar, Al Dschasira wie kommts?

Am liebsten wäre mir sowieso, die Sendungen wie in der Videothek auszuwählen. Die Mediatheken ( ZDF , ARD, ORF ;-) ) gehen da schon in die Richtung, vielleicht eingebunden in http://www.joost.com/whatsjoost.html oder http://www.getmiro.com/ ( http://zattoo.com/de ist imho nur ein Player ).

Dann kann ich auswählen, wann ich was sehen will. Bei einem interessanten Thema in den Nachrichten (aus Videocasts zusammengstellt, z.B: http://current.com/currenttv ) kann ich gleich nach passenden Dokus suchen. Oder Filmen, die ich dann auch wie in der imdb kreuz- und querverlinkt habe (Schauspieler, Team, Themen, Orte).

I was mildly surprised to note that the grains didn't move up as much as I expected today. Only corn has kept that lock step upward march. I wonder how long the move in corn is going to keep going, and I also wonder when we'll see a limit move to flush out the weak longs. Sugar has delivered.

I put on an options play in the S&P, and will hopefully make money whichever way the market goes.

Meanwhile, I plan on going for a swim, stopping by Pelican Alley for a drink, and working on my book. John has been playing on the beach all day, and has told me that he want's to stay here for the summer and blow off Mexico. He wants me to finance a trip in August to Athens for 10 days, so he can see the ruins. I'm inclined to let him go, as inertia has taken over me, and I don't know when I'll ever get to Mexico. I've found a comfort level staying here, a sense of familiarity. I trade, write, surf, and swim, read and fish. I also feel that leaving here for an extended period of time would be disrespectful to Denise.....as irrational as that sounds, it makes perfect sense to me.

I've been reading Derren Brown's "Tricks of the Mind," and recommend it to anyone. There are many market lessons contained in that book.

Finally, I bought this Miro Gouache at the top of the post for John from a gallery that I do business with. It should be delivered in a couple of days. They virtually gave it to me, but I strongly suspect that the bottom has dropped out of the Miro Market. That same gallery has an Impressionist painting they know I like, that they want to sell me at full retail. Still, I took full advantage of the Miro teaser.

Las Vegas, Nevada- June 16, 2008-- WINE WALK at Lake Las Vegas was a reasonable success. The heat was 105 in the shade. The Candlelighters' Childhood Cancer Foundation was doing a brisk business in tickets to taste over twenty-five wines from around the world. You can drink as long as you can walk, seemed to be the motto.

My author signing area was close to the registration area so many folks were able to add some literature (Artist's Proof) to their bag of goodies, for a donation of $25.00

Several of the attendees had already purchased the book and a couple of folks asked some interesting questions... I will answer here. (without giving it all away).

Q. Who would play the part of DJ Singer if it were a movie?

A. I'd like to think Debra Winger or Sandra Bullock be interested.

Q. Are ALL the artists' in the book real?

A. No. The obvious names; Dali, Picasso, Miro' are real. Fleming is a composite. In the story of Artist's Proof, the portrayal of his life is a compilation of the real life experiences of many of the most famous artists.

Q. Have you been to all the places depicted in the book?

A. Yes. Capri, Rome and Naples in Italy. Mexico. New York City, and the midwestern states of America.

Chateau Grimaldi erstrahlt nach zwei Jahren Renovierung !

Antibes (pte/14.06.2008/13:35) - Am 19. Juli wird das Picasso-Museum im Chateau Grimaldi in Antibes wieder seine Tore öffnen. Zwei Jahre blieb das Museum für Renovierungsarbeiten geschlossen. Mit der Renovierung des historischen Gebäudes können die darin untergebrachten Kunstwerke noch besser dem Publikum präsentiert werden. Auch die Außenfassade wurde einer gründlichen Sanierung unterzogen. An der Nordseite wurde die in den 1950er Jahren abgetragene Rampe neu errichtet.

"Pablo Picasso hatte im Herbst 1946 nach einem geeigneten großen Atelier gesucht und es in der ehemaligen Residenz der Grimaldis gefunden", so Beatrice di Vita von Fremdenverkehrsamt Antibes-Juan les Pins gegenüber MissionControl http://www.antibes-juanlespins.com. Drei Monate lang hat der Künstler hier gelebt und gearbeitet. "Nach seinem Aufenthalt hinterließ er alles, was er hier geschaffen hatte - insgesamt 23 Gemälde und 44 Zeichnungen - der Stadt Antibes." Picassos Kunstwerke waren quasi der Anlassfall das Haus in ein umfassendes Museum für moderne Kunst umzuwandeln. In der Sammlung befinden sich nun auch Werke von Miro, Modigliani, Leger und de Stael sowie von Hans Hartung und Anna-Eva Bergman, die ebenfalls in Antibes gelebt haben.

"Im Frühjahr 2009 ist eine große Ausstellung zum Thema Picasso 1945-1949 die Ära der neuen Blüte geplant. Ungefähr 150 Werke, die auch von anderen privaten Sammlungen stammen, sollen dann gezeigt werden, so di Vita. "Antibes ist übrigens die einzige Stadt an der Küste, die mit Stadtmauern umgeben wurde." Die Gründung von Antipolis - der (Korsika) gegenüberliegenden Stadt - geht auf die Griechen zurück. Juan-les-Pins, das zu Antibes gehörende Seebad mit seinen feinen Sandstränden und mit 300-Sonnenscheintagen im Jahr avancierte seit den 1920er Jahren zum Ferienmekka der intellektuellen US-Amerikaner. Der Eisenbahnmagnat Frank Jay Gould errichtete das erste Sommer-Casino und Juan-les-Pins wird zum Hotspot des Jazz. Der Name "Nouvelle-Orleans-les-Pins", der unter anderem von Sydney Bechet mitgeprägt wird, soll die geistige Nähe zu New Orleans unterstreichen.

Jazz spielt auch heute noch eine große Rolle, denn das älteste Jazzfestival Europas "Jazz a Juan" http://www.jazzajuan.com findet 2008 zum 48. Mal statt. Stars des diesjährigen Festivals sind unter anderem Didier Lockwood, James Morrison und das Keith Jarrett Trio. (Ende)
