Black Eyed Peas. This is a new one for me, but Someone states it is a long tradition in the South and with his family.

Hard boiled Eggs; my mother always had a honey baked ham. And there is the chocolate rabbit - ears first.

BBQ - usually hamburgers. And the first watermelon of the year. (Grandmother thought melons before 7/4 were too early.)

5. Hallow'en.

Roasted pumpkin seeds, and flank Steak for dinner. Trick-or-treat candy left over from Begger's Night.

6. Thanksgiving/harvest festival
Besides the usual things, we always had an Edam Cheese to go along with dessert. Mother makes a grasshopper pie. Brother #3 and I have Oolong tea.

7. Christmas/Chanukkah/winter solstice
Mother's homemade gingerbread cookies,  the first batch of homemade hot cocoa, and petit feur cakes.

8. Birthdays
I eat lots of things usually 'verboten' like nasty potato chips with onion dip, dairquri ice cream from Baskin-Robbins, and BBQ spare ribs.

9. Marriages
No specific food comes to mind other than wedding cake. Apparently if you stick a piece under your pillow at night you will dream of the woman you will marry. It must be true as I have yet to dream of any woman.

C'est ici, en principe, que devait commencer l'autoroute 70.  Nous sommes à quelques kilomètres à peine d'Alma, plus précisément juste au sud du 6e Rang, soit à environ 4 km au sud du boulevard Auger.  Je dis "devait" parce qu'un consensus du milieu privilégie le "tracé sud", qui longerait la route 170 par le sud, au lieu de la couper pour se terminer à l'endroit que vous voyez ici.

Nous sommes à quelques mètres à l'est de l'intersection de la QC-170 et du 8e Rang, à Saint-Bruno.  Ici commence la partie à 4 voies divisées de la route 170, qui s'étend vers l'est.

En regardant cette vue, à la limite ouest de la municipalité de Larouche, ne croyez-vous pas que cette partie de la route 170 ferait une superbe autoroute?  On regarde vers l'ouest.

Ici, on regarde vers l'est.  Nous sommes toujours à Larouche, sur la route 170.

Nous arrivons au début actuel de l'A-70 proprement dite, soit la sortie 26, qui mène...à la route 170.  En fait, quand on prend la sortie, il n'y a même pas de courbe en tant que tel; c'est la ligne naturelle de la QC-170 qui sert de bretelle de sortie, alors que l'A-70 bifurque vers la gauche, pour passer sur le viaduc.

Nous sommes toujours en direction est, mais à quelque 21 km plus loin, à l'autre bout de l'A-70.  Puisque c'est une autoroute comme toutes les autoroutes, je n'ai pas pris de photos des diverses sorties, celles-ci n'ayant rien de particulier.  Devant nous, l'intersection de l'A-70 et de la QC-170,...

...que nous voyons ici depuis la QC-170, lorsque l'on roule sur celle-ci vers l'est.

Toujours la même intersection, mais dans un angle que l'on ne verra pas, à moins d'être passager et de regarder par la lunette arrière.  Je pointe vers l'ouest, mais depuis la chaussée est de la QC-170, dans l'axe de l'A-70.

Du même endroit, mais en me tournant vers l'est, c'est le point de raccordement des deux chaussées en une seule.

Je dois avoir passé près d'une heure à rouler un peu partout, dont dans un champ, afin de trouver le point exact où l'A-70, ou plus précisément son prolongement vers l'est, devait se terminer, selon l'Atals routier du Québec, édition 2007, publié par MapArt.  Mais beaucoup plus tard, à l'entrée de la réserve faunique des Laurentides, surprise générale; je me rends compte que j'avais noté les poses, mais que je ne les ai jamais prises!  Comme l'heure avançait, j'ai dû faire mon deuil de ces images, et c'est donc sans cette photo que je termine ce billet.  Si vous trouvez cela chiant, imaginez comment je me sentais, lorsque j'ai pris mes premières photos, dans la réserve faunique, et que j'ai constaté que je n'avais pas pris les photos de la fin prévue de l'A-70.  Dites-vous que votre frustration est partagée.

Quirky Fact #1:
My left and right pinky, my left thumb, and my right shoulder are double jointed. This means that I can make my fingers look wonky and my shoulder pops out of it's socket in a strange way. Ask me, I love showing people! It does present a problem while sleeping though, I can't really rest on my arm or have someone else lying on it for too long. When the shoulder pops out like that it gets REALLY stiff and painful if I leave it like that for any length of time.

Quirky Fact #2:
I can wiggle my ears. Pick a side and I can wiggle them singularly, or I can wiggle them simultaneously. I learned how to wiggle my ears when I was about 10. I noticed that my ears would perk up whenever someone said my name or anything close to it. I just trained myself to pretend like I was hearing my name, and paid attention to how my muscles moved when I heard it. Bingo, bango, presto! I could wiggle my ears without any help or name yelling. :)

Quirky Fact #3:
I cannot eat seafood without puking my guts out. Okay that's not quirky, mostly that's gross. But it never fails if I eat anything that's a crustacean or shelled animal (mollusks mayhaps is what they're called?) I spend at least an hour or more yakking it back up. I was fine and dandy for the first 16 years of my life then....WHAM. Violently ill after having baked clams and some shrimp with cocktail sauce. I could shovel down bowl after bowl of new england clam chowder or seafood bisque until one day...BARF. It's actually quite sad and upsetting. I really quite enjoyed crab and lobster best.

Quirky Fact #4:
I collect betta fish in every colour. I have had: blue, green, red, turquoise, pink, magenta, lavender, white, black, brown, grey, orange, silver, crystal and yellow thus far. Not all of them are still alive or were living in my house at the same time, but they've all lived here at some point. At one point I actually was up to about 13 fish but we were running out of room for them so I whittled it down after some of them passed away. I've never had the same colour or finstyle ever, and if they've been similar in hue I've never owned them at the same time. Black bettas are rare, as are white and crystal finned.

Quirky Fact #5:
I never wear matching socks. The only time I wear matching socks is if there are no mismatching socks of the same sockweight, or my mother yells at me to go get matching pairs because it will embarass her at some family event. Seriously, ask anyone you know that knows me. I never ever ever wear matching socks, ever.

Quirky Fact #6:
I will not under any circumstances eat JELLO. I despise JELLO in all forms. Well, okay no not all, I'll eat Conklin's brain JELLO from the mould, but that's about it. NO JELLO. NO WAY. GROSS GROSS GROSS. Food should never, EVER do what JELLO does. sorry, but JELLO is not fun. Jiggling food is not delicious. This also includes canned cranberry sauce. Ick.

So, I'm bored and a little lonely and not feeling so hot.  I thought I'd do this meme I saw over at Just Eat Your Cupcake.

1) When you were in the womb, what was the weird food your mother craved?

I don't remember my mom every saying anything about it.  I'm the result of an unplanned pregnancy.  Mom was in college, unmarried, in small town America in 1963.  Not exactly happy times.  When she does say something about it, it's not good.

2) If you had to kill a fellow blogger, who would it be and why? And no shrinking from this question.

Okay, call me a shirker.  I wouldn't kill anyone.  I just don't stay connected to bloggers I find annoying.

3) Do you own a pair of cargo pants?

No.  My behind is big enough without adding to it's bulk with all those poofy pockets.

4) Which one resident of our little town of Blogville would you sleep with and why?

Well, right now all of the blogs I read are by women so I guess I'd have to say no one.  You are all lovely women, but that's just not how I roll.

A book.  I'm a voracious reader so one, it would me he knew that much about me, and two, it would require some thought to choose the right book.  A suitor's only going to do that if you're important to him.

I was in a few plays in elementary school but that was about it.  I seem to remember playing a queen and a secretary, but I'm blank other than that.

Snakes, but only if they are loose and I run into them.  Also, the ocean.  I don't go past my knees.  I'm terrified of being eaten by a shark (thank you, Peter Benchly) and let's face it, there's a whole world of stuff down there you can't see coming.

I have absolutely no idea what any of that means.

I drive a school bus so there aren't any critters inhabiting my space.  I have a couple of magnetic framed pictures of my kids and a Pittsburgh Steelers sign.

No, but then I don't find any female bits attractive.  They're actually kind of ugly if you think about it.

Neither.

Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon in Bull Durham are hot.  The guy (I do not know his name) who plays in "Hope Floats" with Sandra Bullock melts me right in my socks and so does Bill Pullman with Sandra in "While You Were Sleeping."

I would definitely pick Sandra Bullock, but the casting people?  They'd probably pick Roseanne.

I tend to avoid coffee shops because I don't drink coffee.  When I break down and get something at the Starbucks in Barnes & Nobel, I get juice or tea.

Relationships are a mystery to me.  I just don't get why so many of us have such horrible ones time after time and why some people have relationships whose beauty makes you want to weep.  Why do we end up with people who hurt us?  Why do we hurt people we profess to love?

Math would be the second mystery.  It makes no sense.  I don't get it beyond the basics.  Algebra, trig, and the rest?  My theory is it was implanted in someone's mind by aliens

Bon, les élections devraient être annoncées ce dimanche matin, après le déjeuner-causerie entre le premier ministre, Stephen Harper, et la gouverneure générale, Michaëlle Jean.  À partir de là, la campagne sera officiellement lancée.

On pourrait déterminer la "valeur" des chefs de partis politiques en fonction de leurs bons coups, et de leurs coups bas, ainsi que des dérapages de leurs candidats, et bien sûr de l'habileté des chefs à corriger le tir de ceux-ci.  On accorde une même note de 100 points à chacun des chefs politiques, et on pourrait ajuster leur cote en ajoutant, ou en retirant, des points, au fur et à mesure des jours de campagne qui passent.  Le classement serait affiché, et mis à jour quotidiennement, dans une des marges latérales, de façon à ce qu'on puisse le voir constamment, d'ici la fin de la campagne.

Mettons le classement de départ, en ordre alphabétique de leur nom de famille, puis le classement varierait par la suite en fonction de leur "valeur".  Cela donnerait ceci:

• Stéphane Dion, Parti Libéral du Canada (PLC)... 100
• Gilles Duceppe, Bloc Québécois (BQ)... 100
• Stephen Harper, Parti Conservateur du Canada (PCC)... 100

J'essaierai de mettre à jour le tableau le matin, avant de quitter pour mon job, avec les trucs qui auront influencé la "valeur" des chefs le jour précédent.  Je compte sur vous pour me donner vos impressions de la campagne, ainsi que pour mettre en évidence des "petites nouvelles" qui se passent dans votre patelin, mais qui ne figurent pas nécessairement dans les grands médias.

J'espère que l'on fera un travail équitable, et non-partisan.  Par exemple, on n'enlèvera pas des points à un chef parce qu'on aime pas son parti.  On devra s'en tenir aux faits et gestes des chefs, et de leurs suites respectives.

Et si je vois que ça ne marche pas, je laisse tout tomber!

The past couple years I read one or two books of the fantasy and sci-fi genres. This year, I've been traversing almost nothing but those realms. Part of that is due to most of them being series, some longer than others (ie. 28 books for Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar). Besides Lackey, I've read Orson Scott Card, Rod Serling, PR Frost, and other wordsmiths through anthologies. Now that I've finally gotten my hand on the 5 book series, I'm enjoying some Arthurian lore through Irene Radford's Merlin's Descendants.

I've already run through double the number of books as last year and am barely stopping for Read More Books, a reviews forum. My reading list grows faster than I can (or have time to) read and at this time Harry Potter and Twilight aren't detours I'm inclined to take. Maybe later, eventually, we'll see...

I was looking through books yesterday at the shops and saw all the Twilight books, which I know basically nothing about. What I do know is that I’m beginning to feel like I’m the *only* person who knows nothing about them.

Despite being almost broke and trying to save money, I almost bought the expensive book (Australian book prices are often completely nutty) just because I felt the need to be ‘up’ on what everyone else was reading.

Have you ever felt pressured to read something because ‘everyone else’ was reading it? Have you ever given in and read the book(s) in question or do you resist? If you are a reviewer, etc, do you feel it’s your duty to keep up on current trends?
