Among them is Waris Dirie, a Somalian model who gained international fame as a model posing in Chanel ads and acting in the 1987 James Bond movie “The Living Daylights” before launching her campaign against female genital mutilation in 1996. She shocked the world with a best-selling book “Desert Flower” that described how her genitals were sliced off with a dirty razor blade without anesthesia, and then stitched together. (Source)

He told press, that the couple met in a pub and were planning to spend dinner together. Dirie could not give an explanation over what happened, and only said that she was lost, and couldn't find her way back to her hotel. Since she had no money on her, she had been sleeping in hotel lobbies. Afterwards, she declared that she was kidnapped for two days by a taxi driver and the story of having been lost was to keep the press from asking her too many questions.

Det är med stor sorg jag berättar detta. Min älskade Clinique Take the day off cleansing balm utgår. Jag har varit kär i den ända sedan den kom. Den bästa makeup removern jag någon sin har använt. Jag hoppas Clinique kommer med en snarlik. Den tar bort all vattenfast och teater smink.

I had two pieces of toast early this morning and it is now almost 1 PM and I still feel very full, a

I had two pieces of toast early this morning and it is now almost 1 PM and I still feel very full, as a matter of fact, I am burping, so that gastric band is really doing its job. Usually, around this time, I would have been eating again, but I don't feel like it yet. Even the vitamin pills that I took this morning made me feel full, well, they were quite a handfull. That reminds me that I have to look for Omega 3 capsules, because they are supposed to be good for whatever ails you and I do want to add them to the supplements I take. I also want to be taking those kelp tablets again as a supplement to my thyroid medication. You see, I am on a real health kick. I've got all my bottles neatly lined up on the kitchen windowsil, next to the Überhund's pills, so I don't forget to take them.

Just now, out of the blue, and anticipating some money I will get for my birthday, I ordered a new tunic on line and some ankle boots. They were both very reasonably priced, so I don't feel all that bad, and it is my birthday and it made me happy. Happy people live longer, I'm convinced of it, so do people who look good. The better looking you are, the longer you live, it's a theory I have that anyone can shoot holes through without any effort, I know. I need my fantasies, don't I?

I've done the grocery shopping and bought the Überhund some reatively expensive dog food especially for older dogs. He had not been eating well lately and I worried about him getting all his vitamins and minerals. So, I brought this food home and put some in his dish and he ate most of it, so he seems to like it. Which is another relief, because about dog food, he is a picky eater. This stuff is called Benifull, I don't know if any of you have ever heard of it. It is a no nonsense dog food without all the colors and shapes. The same as the food that the cats are getting now. The colors and shapes are there only for us humans, after all.

I vacuumed the kitchen and the living room and the hallway and the sofa and the chairs. I bet I have to do it again tomorrow before the Exfactor and my sister come. I bought them each a pastry, but I got none for me. I figure I can't eat that and I don't need it anyway. I did buy a container of fresh juice, so that is different than the soda I usually buy. More calories too. I am trying to be very conscious about my health and what little I eat, has to be healthy. That's why I buy the really good bread and not the factory bread and the margarine with the good start vitamins in it. It's a bit more expensive, but then I eat so little that I can afford it.

The thing I don't eat anymore is eggs. For some reason they don't agree with me and i always end up upchucking them, the same with cheese, I can't eat that either. I can eat yogurt and curd, lovely with fruit in them and then the non fat kind. I sure am lucky that I live in the dairy country, there is a infinite choice of dairy products and varieties, although there probably is all over Western Europe.

I always make a list before I go to the store and stick to it, otherwise there is too much temptation to buy other things as well, like those little containers of potato salad that I like so well, or the chocolate mousse. I must stick to the shopping list and if I want to cheat, I have to write it on the shopping list beforehand, otherwise I don't get it. There will not be much cheating now. My stomach feels so full.

Anyway, I don't do much impulse buying. Very rarely do I buy something that is not on the list and I very rarely let myself buy something that is advertised and that I was not plannning on buying, unless it is something I know I will use in the very near future. Like the cleansing towelettes for my face that I bought this week that were on sale. That is an exception. I am probably a rotten client for the supermarket, but I am steady. I do tend to buy products that are on sale if I was planning on buying some of that already, like dishwashing liquid. If the expensive stuff is on sale, I buy that. I don't buy cheap items just because they are cheap, many times they are inferior and you get a bad product. Like hairspray, for instance. I bought the cheap one once and regretted it very much, because my hair was like a sticky bunch of spiderwebs.

I just took the Überhund for a walk and he was his usual scrounging street dog self again. Anything that was even remotely edible ended up in his mouth from where I can not dislodge it. I don't even try anymore. It is a lost battle for me, he suffers the consequences, except that he doesn't seem to put two and two together. His instincts are lost to him. Dumb dog.

I saw the strangest woman. She looked like a stereo typical gypsy woman and she had a small child with her. She even wore those kinds of clothes and had the skin color and the black hair done up in a lose bun and a weather beaten face. It looked like she was a character out of another time, that's how much she stood out. I was quite startled, because you don't see many real gypsies around here and she was so very much like one. She had a cigarette dangling from her mouth and she seems a bit uncouth as if she had a chip on her shoulder. She may have been Rumanian. They have a tough life and can't seem to assimilate, but I can't figure out what she was doing here. It's a puzzlement. When I came back, she was gone. Another mystery for Miss Marple.

One streets over, they are having a block party. The street is blocked off and a big party tent has been put up. Various cables lead to the tent and I saw a big barbecue. That should be fun. You see a lot of streets organize these kinds of things. I don't see our street doing it. We are not cohesive enough. We're only on saying hello terms.

For some reason my spell check has stopped working and if I do want to double check a word, it gives me a Ducth option, even though I have my language settings in English. It also does this in comments on Blogger and on facebook. Something screwy going on. We are now in the Twilight Zone.

I have two scabs on my left arm that I keep pulling off, not allowing them to heal. It's a nervous habit that I have. Every time there is a scab, I pull it off and the whole process has to start all over again. I am trying not to do it, but it almost is like an automism, I have to do it. I like pulling off scabs. This way I always look like the walking wounded and people always ask what I have done to my arm, when it is realy nothing at all. I must stop doing that.

I haven't put my face on yet and went to the store with a bare naked face. Sometimes it is nice not to bother with your make up for awhile. I am going to check in my closet to see what I am going to wear, because what I have on now, I was wearing yesterday and I need some excitement in my life. Pick out a different necklace too. You never know which jehova witness is going to show up at the door.

I think I will go do that now and clean the bathroom. I almost can't stand the excitement in my life. I could have gone into town today, but it is too much effort and it will be busy and I will have to walk over the heads of the tourists. Oh, those ankle boots I ordered are so cute, but I don't get them until next week. That's a long wait when you are impatient.

I just got a card from my oldest sister witha large gift of money in it. That will take ample care of the clothes I ordered. See how it all works out?

Have a good one.

Ciao...

Eu adorei!!!

I am soooo happy to tell you that I am back after being away for so many weeks…please

Hello Divas,

I am soooo happy to tell you that I am back after being away for so many weeks…please forgive me! My life just took another EXCITING course and I have been sometimes so overwhelmed that I did not even have a minute to get behind a computer…

So here I am today in my beautiful home country Senegal! I came about a month ago, spent a week before flying out to the beautiful city of Abidjan in Ivory Coast where I spent 3 wonderful weeks…(see pics below taken with my girlfriend's cam while we were on a beautiful yacht on "la baie des milliardaires")I had sooo much fun and met so many wonderful people that I did not wanna leave…I postponed my departure 4 times until I was told that I was going to lose my ticket if I was not on flight by Aug 31st… L

I’m back to beautiful Dakar (not sooo beautiful because it has been raining ever since I got back) and can’t wait to share with you my new makeup up life savers now that I am in a tropical mode…

Clinique SPF 25 CITY BLOCK SHEER: At first I did not like the ashy look that it leaves on the skin but realized that it would be invisible with my regular face moisturizer on top. I use CLINIQUE dramatically different gel moisturizer as my everyday face lotion (it does not have an SPF so you will need that sunscreen if you are under the sun a lot).

MAC Mineralized skinfinish lose: This is by far the best powder on the market today!!! MAC just did wonders with this one! I was crazy about it when it first came out and love it even more now that I see how great it looks during the day and at night. I use it with MAC brush #150 for a soft look and with the sponge for a night look. It’s pretty hard to know which color you should get when you have a dark complexion…if you are usually a NW45, DEEP DARK is the best color. If you are NW 47 or higher, try DEEPER DARK. DARK will be more for a NC 45 OR C7…

BLOT POWDER: The whole time I have lived in DC, I never used my blot powder on a daily basis…never really felt the need as my skin is only oily on the T-zone. My first day in Dakar, I was sweating sooo much and could see my powder/foundation on the back of my hand everytime I would touch my face that I had to come to the conclusion that the BLOT POWDER was man best invention after the internet…seriously…now I have one blot powder in each and every bag that I carry (that’s because when I switch bags, I rarely empty them…only take my wallet and sunglasses)

AUTO-de-BLU Technakhol: This was the only eyeliner that I had during my trip to Abidjan as I forgot my usual graphblack or smolder…I just totally love it for 2 reasons: 1 it does not run and 2 the fact that the color is blue does not make your eye look to heavy for a day look. And at night it looks as good as a black liner. Try it with Christian Dior mascara Dior show in electric blue…you will make more than one fall with that look…

Now I can’t wait to get MAC new collections Starflash, luster twins, overrich…I should be receiving these by the end of next week (yes all the way down to Africa!!!) In the mean time, I will create new FOTD for you Divas…

XoXo

eVaDiVa

Lyres was (and still is) a mecca for the freaks and outsiders. Not just the punks, rockers and goths

Lyres was (and still is) a mecca for the freaks and outsiders. Not just the punks, rockers and goths, but trannies, genuine outcasts and actual freaks of society have chosen it as a 'safe' haven.
It was a place where The Girl with the Deformed Face could feel just as comfortable as The Cool Dancing Girl with the Flowery Docs.

It was where a 'being' called Z ruled the downstairs, never sitting, but was always stood tall and proud in trenchcoat and black contacts, his peroxide mane fixed and streaming over his otherwise shaven head.
Beyond where, outside, the most respect he could command would be a gob of spit on his back, here, one was honoured if he nodded in your direction.

It was where any manner of guy or girl could be like any manner of girl or guy - all made up to various extents of androgyny, masculinity, femininity, other, all in between and besides.

I wore make-up. I wasn't a goth. I wasn't a rocker. But I liked The Cure and I liked Metallica. And I would bound, mid conversation, from the beer garden upon hearing the bongo intro to Been Caught Stealing twelve inch by Jane's Addiction. I would freak.

I would thump all over the dance floor - all limbs flying, far and wide. I'd twirl and leap on the beat. I'd throw the left leg and right arm out and if you were in my way, sorry man, but you should fuckin' know better - that was my signature tune.

'dolph's was Tommy the Cat, and he'd do much the same but more subtle, more suave, even if it came on early from the jukebox when the dancefloor was clear.

Sí would snake sexy and seductively, sleeves held over her palms, to Lovecats. She'd share knwoing glances with me from the corners of her lovecat eyes.
The two of us fucked with Misirlou like a pair of shithot tango dancers.

Lyres was the place dreams were made, made true and broken. It was freakish like a nightmare and blissful as the end of the rainbow.
They used to sell t-shirts; "I lost my virginity at Lyres."

I'd get too drunk. I'd sit alone in the beer garden and stare. I'd just stare and ignore anyone who said anything to me. Because I was torn up inside and misunderstood and fucked up - even more than these people. More than the freaks. More than the goths. I'd never fit in. Alien.
Then I'd hear those bongos and race off. I'd return four minutes later, gasping for breath and guzzling on water, smiling all over the place and sit and light a cigarette.
And I'd stare out at the freaks and the punks and the goths and the rockers and at my friends and thank fuck for Lyres.

(Two bottles of beer later, and the guy who'd been taking out his 'rage' as a 'rat in a cage' on the dancefloor, is now Jim Morrison, swaggering across the 'floor to L.A. Woman blasting out cool as fuck over the heads. He'd morph into Satan himself as the Stones' Sympathy... faded in.)

It is difficult for me to work on complex gloss pieces at the moment as I am very short of space! I did however do a little work on a piece that I had started and given up on. I started it a while ago by drawing in silicone on the aluminium to create a raised line. Then poored liquid gloss onto it. It dried skin first and very wrinkly just like the sand at the edge of the sea. I wasnt happy at the time but I took a look at it last week and it dawned on me that this effect wasn't without some merit. I decided to work over it and it is looking pretty good. It isnt the slick surface of the piece in the last post, it is much more complex than that. I think the single colour is the perfect solution.

[caption id="attachment_144" align="alignnone" width="241" caption="Unfinished, Gloss and silicone on Aluminium."][/caption]

Question of the Week: At what age should you let girls wear make-up?

My youngest daughter currently goes to a catholic school. The school goes from pre-K to 8th grade. They have a very strict rule of no make-up for the girls. I for one have no problem with this rule but some of the moms with girls in the 6th to 8th grades think this rule should not apply to the older girls.

I let my 9 year old wear lip gloss and kid perfume. I let my older daughter wear nailpolish at 13 and full make-up at 15.

I have been told I am too strict on my kids but I don't really want my girls to look like a Bratz doll either.

Continued from yesterday...

Q: Dr. Carol Sims-Robertson, just HOW MUCH SUN is healthy for the human body each day?

A: NO MORE than 15 minutes per day of "DIRECT EXPOSURE" to the sun is healthy, and will produce "ADEQUATE" amounts of vitamin D for the body.

Q: Dr., when you talk about "SUN EXPOSURE" to the body, causing skin cancers, are you talking about "DIRECT or INCIDENTAL"?

A: "BOTH". The sun you get directly on your skin, or through glass (including driving), or through clouds, or through water in a pool can cause skin cancers. Because of the "CUMULATIVE" nature of sun damage, it starts when you are a child.

To wrap this all up, I asked Dr. Carol Sims-Robertson my last question...

Q: What are the MOST IMPORTANT ingredients to look for in a high quality sunscreen?

A: MEXORYL, HELIOPLEX, ZINC OXIDE, or Titanium Dioxide. These are your UVA PROTECTORS.
