I usually get upset when I type in a URL and an error message pops up. But how can you be mad at this face?

So for once I have nothing much to blog about. I'm working on a secret project that I'm planning to submit to Knitty. Who knows, I may be lucky again. I also tried doing a fair isle swatch for Knitscene using the wool I have in my stash. Sage green, dark red and neon blue do not a lovely combo make. So one of my knitting buddies and I decided to make a Knit Picks order. Hopefully it will arrive before next Friday. Some knitting friends and I are going on a "knitting retreat" next weekend to a cabin somewhere north of here. Hopefully it will give me the chance to finish the secret Knitty project and work on the fair isle swatch.

And one final note that is not knitting related. PBS keeps showing a program discussing the switch from analog to DTV and what you need to know about it. The only reason I watched the first 15 minutes is because I like Norm Abram. He's a cool guy. Now, I could see doing a short commercial explaining the most important points, but a whole program? Is it really that difficult to understand? Just get the coupon, buy the converter box at Best Buy and plug it in. Then add the remote for the converter box to the pile of remotes you already have.

So now as Markus says, what are you going to do about your toaster? Is your toaster DTV ready?? Norm didn't address that one.

I seem to be finally getting over this horrible bug/cold/fluy thing that I have hanging over me for weeks, although I could still sleep for Wales. But now I am getting over it, I have one small person complaining of headache/backache and general unwellness with a temp, and a Neek that tells me he thinks he is coming down with it too. No doubt this weekend will be me looking after both of them.
I had my last spinning class on Monday, it is sad as I have really enjoyed just being able to spin with other people. But I did some more navajo plying (I think I have got that down now) and then we dyed what we made with indigo, it was funny as they all commented on the smell, but I couldn't smell a thing untill the very end. Here are my efforts for the day...

Most of this week has involved knitting myself a hat with the lovelyful handspun that I recieved in the spinners swap on ravelry. I finished it yesterday, but haven't taken a photo of it yet, I shall wait for the beautiful Sofie to come home from school and photograph her in it. I now need to find myself another knitting project to take to climbing club on Sat, I love taking Sofie there as she has so much fun, but I also get 2hours of knitting and tea drinking in which is lovely.
Today, well this afternoon, Neek and I are off to learn some more paget gorman signed speech, I think being able to sign to Sofie definetly helps, and being able to understand her when she is signing is an even bigger benifit.
I have also started spinning some more fiber, I have a plan of a 3ply again, mainly beacuse I feel I need to work on the plying aspect. So more pictures to come.....

I have a wonderful, wonderful camera. Which makes it really pathetic that so many of my posts here

I have a wonderful, wonderful camera. Which makes it really pathetic that so many of my posts here have no photos (hint: this post won't have any photos, either). I have a (small) pile of finished objects at home (and a couple floating about in my backpack that should be deposited in my drawer of handknits at home) that I haven't really posted about because, well, I tend to not be home during the hours of the day where there is good lighting in the settings I like. Which means that my little perfectionist self has to spend a lot an inordinate amount of way too much time staging, taking and editing the photos to have time to do any knitting. Guess what wins?

It doesn't help that the house, until quite recently, was still showing signs of a (relatively) recent move.

I haven't done much, as far as knitting goes, in the last week or so (already?! Time, she has flown!). I finished a few more rows of MS4, putting me at almost done with Clue 2 (of 6. sigh.), the Happy Wanderer Capelet remains in Stockinette Hell with no end in sight, mostly because I've found more interesting things to work on, I finished the knitting and seaming for one Eloping and the knitting for a second. And the Bird's Nest Socks that I'd hoped to finish by the end of last week? Well, maybe (hopefully?) this week instead. I'm just finishing the gusset decreases, after which I have six pattern repeats and the toe decreases to do. Maybe finishing this week isn't such an unreasonable goal.

In other news, more than a little of my knitting time last week was usurped by preparations for the aforementioned party. In a fit of desire to add more seating to our home (and begin to make use of the pretty pretty fabrics we bought the weekend before) I spent most of Thursday night and more of Saturday morning cutting, pinning and sewing together a few floor pillows. (Friday night was a wash. Families, they are stressful things). No, I don't have pictures of those, either. But I will. Someday.

But, I digress. This post was supposed to be about goals.

I read somewhere, once, and have been led to believe that one of the best way to reach goals is to make yourself accountable. So, if, for instance, I say in my blog that I am making it a goal to knit at least one pattern from knitty per issue, before the next issue comes out, and one pattern from Knit.1 before the next issue of IT comes out... and one pattern from Interweave Knits before the next issue of THAT comes out, well, I'm signing myself up to be one very busy knitter.

I also have a lot of commuting time, so it's probably not the Great Hardship that my brain would like to make it out to be. After all, from the summer Knitty, I've already knit one Eloping and only have sewing to do on a second. Too bad I didn't start them until after the fall issue had been released. (I set this goal earlier in the summer... but having not announced it, I clearly didn't stick to it very well. Oops. Here's to a new season!)

I guess my next Public Transit Project will have to be one of the pairs of socks from the current issue. The trick will be the stitch pattern... I don't think any of the patterns from this issue meet my 'Easy to Memorize' qualification... but they can probably be made easily portable, at least.

I am also making it a goal to make sure that I knit at least one project of the three I'm intending to do each season with a yarn I haven't used before. It's so easy to fall into traps of thinking that absolutely EVERYTHING should be made with, say, Panda Silk. Or Koigu. Or something... which means I leave out so many of the beautiful yarns that are both out in the world and in my stash. So I will make an effort to use yarns I haven't used before, if for no higher purpose than as "research" into how certain yarns knit up.

I have other goals, too (knitting from books, knitting more large projects, having greater diversity in my projects, learning to knit continental style, learning a new skill with each pattern I knit, making one in every n projects a gift project... the list is probably not endless, but certainly Very Long), but if I listed all of them and didn't make room to add some and subtract some when fall turns to winter, well, I'd have no room for the projects that I decide to do more on a whim than anything else, simply because they look like fun.

I have a hunch some of these goals will be reevaluated before winter, too, as I meander along the journey of finding out what works and what doesn't... which goals were to lofty and which were too restricted. And that's sort of the point, really.

Today I tried to salvage yarn from a sweater that I had bought to make diaper covers out of. It

Today I tried to salvage yarn from a sweater that I had bought to make diaper covers out of. It's very small wool (2 ply) that is a nice grey color. I am trying to figure out what to do with it now. I have thought about making some fingerless mitts with it, but that would take FOREVER! So I am thinking of something more sensible. Save it until I start spinning and then I can spin it into something else. I like that idea, I just keep forgetting that I want to do that.=P I keep thinking about knitting it. But it would be madness and I have no needles small enough to knit it. My smallest size is a 6. Way to big! It was exciting though to collect it because now I have another ball of yarn to work with. DH and DD helped me pull the stitches out and I wound the ball. The had fun and DH kept saying how cool it was that we could just pull out the stitches and now we have a nice wool yarn.:) It was cool.

Maybe I'll have some pictures sometime. I do like the idea of spinning it. I want to make some yarn art and use all kinds of spiffy things, but I think just combining this with something thicker that I hand dye would be really spiffy. I can hardly wait to paint some yarn. I like the colors of the acid dyes, but I think with the kids around it would be better if I just go with koolaid. It'll still be nice. I'll just go with some brighter colors when koolaid dying.

Speaking of which, I was surfing youtube the other day and found this video of the koolaid method and thought I would share it. I'm a visual person so pictures and movies do a lot for me. Oh...and here's the knitty page about koolaid dyeing. (I love knitty!)

Eee! I wasn't sure what todays post was going to contain. I worked with my mother-in-law on a mailing for RBC and figured I would write something about that. But while DS was napping today I started surfing ravelry.com and there was an add for some yarn. It took me to guttersnipeyarn. I started drooling when I saw the amazing yarn there! Oh My God It's Beautiful! I could buy it all...if DH wouldn't kill me.;) Here are a few pictures of my favorites:

Awesome huh? I'm drooling again.

These yarns lead me on a search for more yarns like them, but my searchs must not have consisted of the right terms because I didn't find much that was this cool. So I started looking to see how I could make this kind of yarn myself. What does hand painted mean and how can I do it? I love doing things myself, if nothing else just to know that I can do it. So I searched and found these links helpful:

Pea Soup - How to dye yarn with food colouring (and small children)

Knitty - Handpaint your own yarn

Hand Painted - Dyed Yarn

Gleason's Fine Woolies Ranch - How to Hand Paint Roving & Yarn...

I can hardly wait to start dying my own. I think I'll probably go with the koolaid method, since it's the cheapest. It looks like so much fun and will be so fun to dye and create my own designs for yarn. And it's something that could be sold. but as DH said, it's the time that has to be put into it. And I just don't think I want to do it with the kids underfoot. *shrugs* I'll just have to find some time to work on this. It's to cool to pass up.:)

Well it is pouring down here in Cyprus, which really is unusual for September. The weather is more

Well it is pouring down here in Cyprus, which really is unusual for September. The weather is more like October. Still after the heat, it is welcome to feel a bit cooler. May be it will lay the no see ums to rest too....We can live in hope..

We could do with the rain though, Cyprus is going through a drought at the moment. Most villages are having water cuts every other day, which means the water is actually switched off for 24 hours. We have been luckier, and have only had around half a dozen cuts all told.

Today I have been to see my pal in the hairdressers in the village. It is called Tips and Toes and as you can tell my the name she also does nails. She uses Bio Sculpture Gel, which is a really healthy way of having your nails done.

Bio Sculpture® Gel - looks as thin and natural as your own nails, only better! Discover the difference of a healthier nail treatment that is a pleasure to use and wear.

Bio Sculpture® Gel is a one component nail treatment that strengthens and promotes the growth of natural nails. Bio Sculpture® Gel is merely applied onto the prepared nail, with no time consuming build-up process, is self-leveling which eliminates excessive buffing and is cured under a UVA Lamp in 2 Min's - no time is wasted waiting for the product to dry. Bio Sculpture® Gel is removable without damage to natural nails by Soaking Off in less than 15 minutes!

Anyhow she had a new hair treatment, so wanted to try it out someone, so I had a free treatment, and blow dry. There is something about having your hair done, it just perks you up and makes you feel good.

The new Knitty online magazine is up, well has been for a while, but thought I would mention it as a good source for patterns and knitting chat. It is also there 6th anniversary issue. i absolutely love the front page pattern of the Jacket called twist and shout. I don't know if I would have the patience to finish something so big, as I am terrible and finishing my projects. The sock designs are geogeous to. There is Barogue, Interlocking Leaves and Garden Gate they should keep us busy while the days grow shorter and nights longer.

Another pattern I feel compelled to mention is Abby which is a Cowl, or if you like a smoke ring it knit in the round with laceweight yarn, the pattern is a 18 row repeat, and looks simple enough...I am just in love with these, again one of these days I will have to have a go at one.

I finally finished the scarf I started ages and ages ago on the train to Boston. Its from Veronik Avery's pattern (via Knitty), but adjusted to be a little narrower.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Finished scarf"][/caption]

I started the scarf on the train ride to Boston, for work. I didn't remember what "SSK" meant, and just kept trying different things... of course that didn't really work out, and I kept frogging the start. The business men across from me were amused by my persistence. Eventually I remembered that my computer had some stitch guide saved as a word doc, and woo hoo, I was off!

This scarf will be perfect for the fall weather coming up. Nice and light, with just a touch of extra warmth. Good for biking. Yay finished object!!!

So I've decided that my cone of silky wool (unknown really but I can tell it is natural fibres and very very soft) wants to become a Laminaria shawl!

It's perfect for a shawl and there is lots of it on the cone. I can't wait to cuddle up in this :) I'm using a 4 mm needle and I like how it drapes so far.

Well as I can not spin, as there is stuff on my bobbins, I have been knitting away this week, I am coming along nicely with my sock, although it is driving me hands insane. Working on such small needles makes my fingers hurt after about 10rows, so this sock is never ending. And I keep making silly mistakes like dropping a stitch and not noticing until im at the end of the row, or picking up a stitch and not noticing till the end of the row.

So last night, I figured I needed something new to knit, especially as I need something easy enough to do while Sofie is at climbing club. Something I can sit and knit and hopefully not make too many mistakes with. I started last night, and completed one glove, and today I completed the other.

I now have some lovely fingerless gloves to keep my hands nice and warm, the best thing about these gloves is that I made them with my own handspun yarn. Here is what I started with here is what it spun up into

and here is what I made

They are actually for me, but Sofie makes a much better model than I do. Although now she wants a pair too, so she has chosen some of my other handspun, and I shall get to work on a pair for her soon. Also while at climbing club, one of the lovely people that works there, came to see what I was knitting, thought they were awesome, and has asked me to knit some for his girlfriend for xmas. I am very flattered, and it really made my day.

Before I write anything else, I want to thank everyone who commented on the stole, in my last blog p

Before I write anything else, I want to thank everyone who commented on the stole, in my last blog post. I was honestly very moved, and......astounded really. After being away from the blog for so long, I was out of practice, self-conscious, and I was doubtful that anyone would be reading anymore anyway. You're still with me! You were all so kind, way out there wonderful, and I became a tearful mess. Ask my husband; he'll tell you.

You may wonder what I was self-conscious about. Well, for one thing, Wordpress.com changed my whole dashboard around (again), since I last logged on. I couldn't find anything anymore, and it didn't feel like home. I think I've figured out everything now though. The other problem was posting pictures of myself. Can it be possible that I'm the only one who can tell that one of my eyes is starting to close, that my nose looks crooked, from where a baseball hit me as a teenager (I can't catch), and I look more wrinkled than I do in person (hopefully)...in the last picture? Possibly so! ....and thank you for not mentioning that the pictures were very "Little House on the Prairie" -ish, because that was on my mind too. I may, or may not, have been wearing crinoline under that dress. I'm just going to chalk-up all of that nervousness, to being away from the blog for so long. I really do thank you for all of the compliments. I am very happy with the stole. I think it's one of the prettiest things I've made...and most of all...I finished it!! Woohoo!!

So, with that blog entry finished, maybe it will get easier from here on. Let's test that theory shall we? I should post another summer project, because it was finished quite some time ago:

Pattern: Wisp

Materials: Rowan Kidsilk Haze, Colour: 582 Trance, 1 skein plus a bit of another.

Needles: 5mm

I have been wanting to knit the Wisp, since I saw this one by Kate, and then this one by Terra. My version does not have buttons yet. I just haven't found the right ones. Someday, maybe I'll find some that are light enough.

I took these photos at the beach, on the Labour Day holiday. It was breezy, but warm. The kids had one last hurrah on the beach, before the beginning of school.

If you look closely, you can see my son in that picture. He's the little orange dot. The next picture was taken at a party. Please excuse the glass. It was just water unfortunately. ;)

The Wisp is a Knitty pattern, and one thing that has bothered me about Knitty patterns is that they do not print out properly. You end up loosing vital pieces of information, and sometimes half of the chart. However, have you noticed that Knitty has a new printer friendly feature? I was very happy to find out about that. However, I don't think the new feature works for the older patterns, like the Wisp, or the Lizard Ridge blanket. Instead, I learned a trick from Turtlegirl. There is an add-on in Firefox, called "Loop", which enables you to make PDF documents from any webpage. Make a PDF of the pattern page, and print out that document. It works out much better.

Being away from blogs, I'm not sure how much people have been talking about the Twist Collective. If you haven't seen it, check it out. It's a great new idea for an online knitting magazine. You can read the articles for free, and if you want to purchase a pattern, they are sold individually, as a download. The designers are given a larger portion of the profits, than the print magazines offer. Also, have you seen the Addi Click? Kinda nice huh?

The Flora neckwarmer pattern can be found on Knitty, right here.

Fetching is also a Knitty pattern.

Contrary to appearances, I didn't use the same yarn for both. For Flora, I used about 1.5 balls of Bergère de France Ideal in Cendre (and 3mm needles). For Fetching, I used about 1 ball of Cashsoft Baby DK in Smokey.

Both patterns are really quick and fun. I found Flora slightly confusing at times, but I made it work ok in the end.

Ok excusing the fact that I have been awake since 4.30 this morning, I am really chipper and happy. All because of this lady . Today I had a awesome parcel in the post from her, from the spinners swap I joined on ravelry. But not only did I get gifts, but Sofie and Neek also got gifts too, how lovely is that?
Here is all the lovelyfull things we got...

I probably should have started with how lovely it was all wrapped up, with arrrrrr pirate wrapping tooo wooop

There was so much stuff jampacked into that parcel I just don't know where to start, Neek got a hat which he had been eyeing up to knit himself, although he wasn't sure he could, so he loves this hat so very much. Sofie had presents too, fake tattoos, pretty yarn, cute purse and a brooch she loves it all, but can't wait to knit with the yarn. I had lots of beautiful fiber and some silk hankies, and the most beautiful handsup yarn in the world. There were buttons, and stitch markers, and a wpi keychain, ohhhhh and stary socks that are awesome, and well im just really overwelmed by her genorosity.
So thankyou ever so much Sarah your wonderful.

Oh today is a happy day. I buckled down yesterday (partially due to an aversion to homework) and finished the Wild Stripes blanket for Nora, my boss's daughter. I chose a fabric that was a bit lighter in tones than the yarn colors partially because the pattern was really cute and also partially because I liked the thought that the two sides would contrast if I did. It was incredibly tedious sewing the backing, piping and finished knitted piece altogether. It made me wish I had a sewing machine to do at least part of it on. I did get to watch a lot of movies on tv because of it, though.

The embroidery was tedious too, but kind of fun. I had a lot of trouble with the french knots. I think either it was because it was so late or just that its not written well and needs pictures to go with it, but I could not figure out her description of french knots. I read it about fifty times and never really got the gist of it. I eventually just worked out my own method and it looks ok to me, so I'm satisfied.

I also tried to embroider Nora's initials on it, but I am not so good at letters. You can definitely make out the N and E, but the M is a bit sad and squidgy. However, it was 3am and I wasn't about to redo it. I figure that its a handmade item so it doesn't have to be perfect. There are plenty of other imperfections so I can't sweat the small stuff.

I feel incredibly accomplished for finally finishing an entire project. I'm also really glad that I got Nora's blanket done before her first birthday when it was supposed to be ready for her birth. (Better late than never, right?) And oh my god, how fun is it to check completed on ravelry and see that WIP label go away? I wish I still felt that way when I completed a homework assignment.

Well so I'm sure everyone wants to see pictures! They might not be that great since I took them at 3 in the morning, but c'est la vie.

Not too shabby, if I do say so myself. :)

So now the most exciting thing is that I can start a new project as well as work on the ones I already have going since I had been hibernating them during the push to finish this. I'm supposed to make a hat for my friend Will (this one) so I really should start that, but I have all of that birthday yarn that I want to dig into.... what a dilemma. :/

I'm having trouble thinking of a clever, witty way to christen this lovely little knitting blog of mine, so I guess I'll just jump into projects!

First things first. I am finally starting Tom's Fall Semester Sweater. I spent weeks being intimidated by this project, resisting the idea of knitting it flat because I love working in the round, but having trouble coming up with the math for a bottom up, seamless sweater and how to do those pesky raglan shoulder decreases without gumming up the ribs etc. etc. etc...but on knitty I found Lucky...http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer05/PATTlucky.html and all my problems appear to be solved! I am going to do it flat, and raglan, but using my own measurements for Tom and a simple 3x2 rib pattern instead of her "mistake rib" pattern.

So far so good...in Cascade 220, Sienna Light Brown

In other projects, I learned the magic loop method for crocheting circles today from Crochet Me: Designs to Fuel the Crochet Revolution, but the tutorial is available online for anyone who's interested: http://crochetme.com/Dec_Jan_0405/reads_round.html. So I've started the bottom of a bucket bag which is a stashbuster for using and loving a lot of the yarn my sweet husband brought home for me when I first learned to knit. Today's the day for brown projects! This will get more colorful and will be a school satchel.

Red Heart Super-Saver, Heck yes! My husband began referring to it as "crap yarn" when he observed my champagne taste as I ogled yarns on ravelry and learned about fiber content and properties. And simultaneously realized that knitters tend to dislike acrylics...I lost my yarnnocence, if you will.

Bah! I'm having too much fun tonight to work on my presentation of John Calvin and his effect on educational theory...going to do a few more of those rounds!

Finally! I have photos of Juno Regina! I started this back before I went to Europe. I got through the first lace section so I could just knit the miles and miles and miles of the straight middle. Ok maybe it wasn't that long but it sure felt like it!

It's part of the reason it took so long. I don't think I'll ever knit lace again that has a straight section like that. But over all I love it. I should have made it a bit longer.

I've worn it several times already and got loads of compliments about it! I used Lorna's Laces thanks to my fantastic Secret Pal Past :)

There's still a bit of a chill behind the breeze. The trees in the neighbourhood are showing hints of yellow, orange and red, and I'm suddenly craving the need to knit.

Yum. Look at this Shedir beauty by Eunny Jang:

That was my obsession last year. I'd never used itty bitty double pointed needles before, but look at those cables! How could I resist?

I chose to twist the stitches to make the pattern pop on a rather dark maroon silk, merino, cashmir blend. What can I say, I splurged!

Some advice for those inspired to do this one, Shedir, by knitty
a) Don't let your children loose your stitch marker - that is crucial and then don't be lazy, make a new one and use it!
b)count, count count those stitches!
c) ah heck just don't knit something like this around your kids.

My biggest problem was not the fact that I had to flub the pattern to match my wonky counting, it was that right in one of the last few rounds I somehow purled my knit strands and if this was more like actual knitting and not like some sort of medieval needle torture I would have ripped back to fix it.

Anyway, I could go on about how, as I was just weaving in my ends with a big sigh of relief, I rather non-chalantly snipped into my hat. But it's done and I love it!

It now belongs to my Great Auntie Gisa as it seems to fit her head better than mine.

But please don't mention my urge to knit to my hubby. You see I have the attention span of a gnat. If a project lingers on past the 2 week mark I start to lose interest. I need short term, instant gratification projects. Probably why this darn baby quilt is taking forever.

Which brings me back to my darling man. When we first were married he asked me for a handknit sweater like this one Tom Welling wears in The Fog:

Nice right? Should be easy enough, no cables to frill it up too much and detract from it's manliness.

Argh. I still haven't even bought the yarn for it and we were married 9 years ago. Yep. He's been waiting for his sweater for 9 years! Although while searching for pictures of Tom's sweater for this post I found this site. And look what she made!

And guess what? She's even posted a free pattern for it! *gasp*

I should sit down. Think I can knit this sucker up by Christmas?

It's true. This is a post about knitting. Don't blink or it just might disappear. ;)

Once upon a time, when I had oodles of free time, summer was my planning season for when the weather finally cooled down enough to permit knitting to commence. Unlike my former home in Minnesota, the coast of Israel is warm 10 months of the year and not having central A/C is the biggest deterrent to my knitting year-round. The weather is changing, enough so to get me thinking about picking up my 3 projects languishing in the UFO cabinet. This year I won't be dashed on the shores by the Siren Song of NaKniSweMo. Oh, no, no, no. I'll be content to just finish the current lot of projects. (Though I am coming to the belated realization that the "Kill'em Cushion Cover" may eternally be a UFO, as it requires some serious solitude and quiet to work on. I haven't seen either of those in months/years.)

With one magazine subscription and few online knitting newsletters, I've tampered down the constant pull of new projects to a minimum, but the temptation to start new projects instead of turning UFOs into FOs is certainly there. Who doesn't love to start something fresh?! One-Skein Wonders, which I received recently, could be my Achilles's heel! (Woo hoo! Now I need to knit a camera cozy!)

Speaking of newsletters, does anyone else think the noise-to-signal ratio on KnittingDaily is nearing the breaking point? When they first started out, it was pretty low. Now I'm sorely tempted to unsubscribe from the newsletter to avoid getting the at least twice to three times a week ads in my mailbox. I think Knitty is much more in tune with its subscribers.

To my delight, I discovered today that Ravelry members blogging on WordPress.COM now have their own group. Rock on!

And to spammers targeting WordPress.COM's "knit" tag, take note of this important announcement from the fellow who does the clean up http://mark.wordpress.com/2008/01/15/knitting-a-tip/ (Sorry for the lack of linkage.) If you are knitblogging here on WordPress.com and surf the WP.com tag surfer, I can hear you chuckling from here.

So I had a bit of an adventure today. Upon seeing the new knitty I decided almost immediately that

So I had a bit of an adventure today. Upon seeing the new knitty I decided almost immediately that I needed to make my own Versatility. So I looked to see if there were any yarn stores in my area. I know, I've been at college for 2 years and haven't found my LYS yet? Shameful. But in all fairness I didn't have a car, and I knew there were none within walking distance. Only today did it occur to me that maybe, just maybe, I could use my bike.

So, with the aid of Google maps, I determined that there was in fact a yarn store just a few miles from where I live. Most of the way was even along a main street, so I didn't have to worry about the sketchier parts of town. SInce it was a nice day, I checked my bank statement to see how much I was allowed to spend and headed out almost immediately before my good sense and budgeting skills could too closely examine the intentions of the yarn center of my brain.... and I promptly got lost.

Being ever so smart, I had looked at the map, seen that it was pretty easy, and failed to pay attention to exactly where the yarn store was. I knew the general location, and I figured I would see it as I rode by... but not so much. I ended up going way too far, and ending up smack in the middle of the sketchier part of town that I was trying to avoid. Granted, it was broad daylight and I was on a bike. But I still felt a little silly on my orange bike, with a white basket with red daisies on the front, leaning against a warehouse asking my friend if he could look up directions to a yarn store and give them to me over the phone.

After calling my friend back three times, I finally found it (in my defense, it was behind another building). Paradise Fibers. And believe me, at that point it definitely felt like a paradise. I wandered around, of course, touching things and cooing over things and excaiming over colors and wishing I could spin because they had so many pretty fibers. I didn't have my camera with me, so no pictures this time, but I do have pictures of my final purchases.

This is the yarn I bought for Versatility. I agonized forever about the color, because I wanted it to be something that matched a lot of what I owned so it would be truly versatile. I finally picked this Lamb's Pride Bulky in Old Sage. I don't actually own a lot of green, but it's a color that looks good on me, and it looks good with a lot of colors that I actually do own. I think it's one of those colors that manages to be fairly neutral and pretty at the same time, which is nice. I did have to resist pretty hard not to get it in Auberguine though...

This is Nature Spun in Deep Sea. I've been wanting to get started on a scarf for a friend of mine, and when I saw this color I knew this was it. I'm a little sad to be giving it away, actually. It's such a lovely, deep color. As often happens, the picture really doesn't do it justice.

I had to go to class right when I got back, but that didn't stop me from getting started on my knitting. I choses the scarf, since it's a relatively easy pattern and the other one has a chart. The scarf is the his/hers reversible scarf from Cables Untangled. Well, more or less. It's the same basic concept, in any case. Since I don't own the book and lost where I wrote the pattern down, it may not be quite the same. I know I have the right amount of yarn and the right size needles because I got that off Ravelry, but I might not have the same number of stitches or the same length between cables etc. I still like it though. I find cables to be simultaneously relaxing and fun, so while it's a fairly simple pattern I'm really enjoying it so far. Hopefully the recipient will like it as much as I do.

I took part in a Hat Swap/KAL on Ravelry and just finished, albeit a few days late, the hat that I'll be sending to my swapee for her little niece. Scout seems to like the hat so much that I'm going to make one for her as well. It's the first time that she hasn't thrown the hat off when I got her to sit and model. I'm going to take that as a sign.

Miss Dashwood

This is a Knitty pattern, which if you didn't know there is a new one up filled with a number of gorgeous patterns ready to be knit on my your whim!

Scout really likes that it ties under her chin too, she keeps fiddling with them.

I'm glad I could finally share a FO with you. It's been such a long time. In all honesty I've been restraining myself from starting anything new. The truth is a few days ago I was reading all those wonderful blogs you creatives have and I became insanely jealous overly concerned that I wasn't living up to my potential when comparing my UFO's with some of your FO's. I know now that I have taken on too much. With that, I've attempted to work on giving myself a bit of a balance. There certainly not enough hours in the day to give each project the deserved energy and focus each needs. I am trying hard to keep focus on current projects so that, when the time comes, I will be able to work on one project for myself. Guilt free. (What a concept!)

My one page list has slowly, but surely, begun to dwindle. I'm happy that I'm making leeway, though I'm unhappy that I don't have much to share. My contribution to the craft blog world is nil. My promise to you is that this will change. And soon.

So the felted cloche is finished. I'm not entirely happy with it. I was concerned with felting the silk garden, even before I started, but I did a little googling and the general consensus in the fiber blogosphere was that it really does felt, it just takes a bit longer. I found that it does indeed take A LOT longer and that it doesn't felt quite as readily as I would like.
As a result, the cloche is just a bit too big. I gave it a half-hearted haircut (it was super fuzzy) but I'm not sure that it is wearable. Maybe if I find someone with a really big head. Like Shrek.
Here are the pics. If I were to wear it I'd cut down on some more of the fuzziness.

And another one:

I do like the way the striping worked out. I also really enjoyed the pattern and think I might try it again with a 100% wool yarn. I have some solid wools upstairs in the attic so I think I'll give it another go.
I'm still working on planning an afghan. I'm considering doing something with mitered squares. I like the garter stitch squares in the premiere debbie bliss magazine -- they are striped (and sort of L shaped, which is visually interesting, at least to me) and would make good use of all the scraps of yarn I have lying about.

Of course this is sized for a baby blanket. I haven't the slightest idea how many squares it would take to make a decent lap-sized blanket for an adult. I suppose I could knit a test square and figure it out.
I need to stop perseverating and start something soon.

In other news, yesterday I cast on for the Abby cowl from the most recent issue of Knitty. I don't believe I've ever cast on for a project so quickly after coming across the pattern. It's a pretty, simple lace cowl and I wanted to try out the Sea Silk. It is everything I imagined it would be -- soft, buttery yumminess in a skein. The colorway is called 'indian summer' and it is a variegated brown/gold/coppery pink. So pretty! I've finished 2 complete lace repeats and am about a third of the way through:

I love it! Quick and portable, this is a great SnB project.

Yes I can, this branching out my knitting habbits is rather fun. Since Neek knitted himself a hat, Sofie thought it was pretty cool, so I knitted her one up too. It really only took me a day, well less than that really, I started when Neek went climbing, and finished it while Sofie went swimming. Sofie seems really happy with it, even if she pulled funny faces when I was trying to take a picture of it on her, she is currently sat playing with the ds with the hat on her head, yeay.

Talking with someone about her really opened my eyes to why she is the way she is. When you make alittle timeline of her life, it is clear to see why she has some issues, but I can work on that.

In spinning news, I spun up what shall now be forever known as the "imposter rovings", I think they should be some gloves/handwarmers if there is enough yarn.

Mum might be coming down today which should be nice, I haven't seen her since before my birthday but she will only be here for about an hour.
