I detect a theme...

I guess sometimes you have to find stuff, throw it against the wall, see what sticks, and see what, if any, pattern emerges. I think I'm detecting a pattern with some of these entries. Analyzation of the pattern will probably continue as I gain more insight (let us all gag now! ) into the pattern - sometimes I amaze myself with what can come out of my fingers.

So maybe one of the unconscious goals I've had in this blog is just that - throwing ideas and thoughts against the wall and seeing what emerges, kinda like my own Jackson Pollock painting.

Anyway, the latest thoughts came with the DVD I just saw, the US vs. John Lennon. I know that it doesn't have everything in Lennon's life, like his infidelity and sometime callousness - it mainly concentrates on the effort to deport him in the early and mid 70s when his anti-war activities weren't too popular with the Nixon administration. Of course, the Nixon administration is the paragon of virtue, as we all know.

This is another fog era for me (see August 1's Haight-Asbury thoughts.) I was starting to emerge from it around the mid 70s, but I was still a little kid. It's interesting to see these types of documentaries of events from my early to mid childhood and reconcile it with my adult knowledge of history. This DVD had footage I've never seen (what a surprise that I never saw footage of anti-war protestors shouting "F*** the war!") I remember seeing Vietnam war video on the evening news every night ever since I was aware that there was tv and evening news and that it was on every night right before dinner. Of course, I didn't know exactly what was going on, just that there was lots of noise and fire and soldiers on every night. That's the main childhood impression of the war I had - it was on every night and there was always fire and noise. It was "normal" to five-year-old me. Whether I should have been exposed to that, well, that's a parental decision and I was not the parent. My mom might not have even been aware that that was stuff I probably shouldn't have been looking at.

I've always admired John Lennon as a flawed man who tried to evolve and change and create great music (most of the time) while doing it. He usually owned up to his mistakes and usually could see them as such after the fact (there's plenty of people in the world who would rather die than admit they made a mistake.) He, in his own way, along with his wife, spoke out against the war. So maybe he wasn't a US citizen. He was here on a visa - he was known as a musician - he had even had a poetry book published in the 1960s. I think he had a right to his opinion, even if he wasn't a US citizen. Freedom of speech isn't just a phrase on the first amendment. "War is over if you want it." In theory, great idea, but a lot of people have to agree, and at that time, Nixon was winning the White House by a landslide. How did that happen?! As they mentioned in the film, the 26th amendment was passed in 1972 allowing 18 to 20 year-olds the right to vote. Maybe the conservative kids were the only ones who voted. It's hard to believe that there was so much anti-war sentiment back then when Nixon escalated the war and he was reelected (hmmm, maybe not...) Watching the DVD made me think about these contradictions which had absolutely no impact on a nine-year-old in a childhood fog. If I were an adult then, I'd definately have been aware of this stuff.

So, I guess the theme that's starting to emerge here is reevaluation of the events of my formative years from an adult perspective, not just a history-book perspective (which this stuff was in grade and high school). It's interesting to look at these issues and see more explicit films and see how I react as an adult. I'm obviously reacting. I guess these exercises are helping me remember and integrate my childhood with my 2007 adult perspective. Of course, my adult perspective could always change, but knowing where I stand now can help me know where I may be going.

It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

Well, maybe not “on” the show as a guest, but during one particular broadcast of the show when it originated from Cleveland her lovely face made it on the screen for several seconds as the show faded out to a commercial break. She was an audience member. During the early 60’s Mom and other ladies from the neighborhood “coffee clutch” would travel 45 minutes north to Cleveland from Orrville, OH and sit in the audience for the show.

I can vividly recall her going there at least three times and one instance remains etched in my memory because Mom and the other ladies went for a show during the summer and my siblings had to go to my Aunt Lois’ that day. Usually they went when school was in session but that particular week Mike Douglas had a hot new rising superstar of stage and screen on the show as co-host that Mom and her buddies HAD to see.

Who was this diva? Why a very young Barbara Streisand that’s who.

It was 1963.

Mom dropped off my older sister, baby sister and younger brother and myself (our oldest brother was working that summer) at Aunt Lois’ and off she went. Of course Aunt Lois wanted to watch the show on TV and as we waited for the show to begin later that morning something else significant happened. My baby sister Karen took her first steps! I also recall that day that our older sister Cheryl tried (in vain) to teach my brother and myself how to roller skate on the sidewalk in front of Aunt Lois’ house on East Oak Street. Needless to say that was my first and last lesson in rolling skating and I never attempted that feat again.

Once the show started Aunt Lois hollered for us to come in and watch although we really had no interest in an old guy like Mike Douglas. But when Aunt Lois commanded, you obeyed!

When Douglas would take a commercial break and say “We’ll be right back after this message!” the cameraman would scan across the applauding audience made up of primarily housewives from across northeast Ohio. On one particular break as they scanned the audience the camera settled on Mom for five or more seconds before going to the commercial. Her whole face was splashed across the TV screen and we literally freaked out! Including Aunt Lois! I think she was more shocked and excited than we were.

Mom was excited once she found out she was shown on TV but nearly as excited when she learned Karen took her first steps, although she was a bit disappointed that she missed out on that event.

I have no recollection of who the guests were that day and over the years Mom forgot too, but it was all about this young upcoming star named Streisand that she and her pals were interested in that day.

Douglas came to Cleveland in 1961 to start that show that eventually aired each weekday for 20 years. The show aired on KYW-TV Channel 3 (now known as WKYC) and by August of ’63 had gone into national syndication before moving to Philadelphia in 1965. The show aired live until one time in ’65 when guest Zsa Zsa Gabor uttered an obscenity over the air which resulted in the show being taped from that point on. Douglas’ first show in Philadelphia was August 30, 1965 and I remember when the move was announced Mom was disappointed that she would be unable to attend any more shows.

As a young kid Mike Douglas was considered an old guy and I usually only watched it when I was home sick from school. It wasn’t until years later that I realized how progressive and hip he was in the guests he had on over the years. In addition to the usual bevy of TV and movie stars he wasn’t shy about booking rock 'n roll stars and during the run of the show the highest ratings week he had was the week John & Yoko co-hosted (I skipped school one day that week to catch the Lennon’s and Chuck Berry). I also took a half-day off school to catch KISS on his show.

About 12 years ago VH1 reran the week of John & Yoko shows and I still have them on tape.

During the 60’s and 70’s such rock stars as the Turtles, Ringo Starr, Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa, Raspberries, Kinks, Supremes, Animals, Bee Gees, James Brown, Blondie, Sam Cooke, Cowsills, Cass Elliott, Peter Frampton, Marvin Gaye, Moby Grape, Chaka Kahn, Elton John, Little Richard, Wilson Pickett, Patti Smith, Edgar Winter, Vanilla Fudge and many, many more.

Douglas, born on August 11, 1925, passed away on his birthday in 2006.

Wenner: Você tem uma idéia "When I'm Sixty-Four"?

Não, não. Espero que sejamos um casal de velhinhos morando na costa da Irlanda ou algo assim - olhando nosso caderninho com as anotações das loucuras.

It’s an after work Friday Happy Hour at the Scratching Post! 2 for 1 specials on well drink

It's an after work Friday Happy Hour at the Scratching Post! 2 for 1 specials on well drinks and a FREE Long Island Iced Teas for everyone in honor of Universal PUMA High Priestess Supreme, Ms. Harriet Christian, a true Working Class Hero. If you can, please buy a Pink PUMA for Hillary so she doesn't have to be clean up janitor lady for the Obama Campaign mess here, and can concentrate her time in helping Down Tickets Democrats and fulfill her honorable role s a Senator of NY.

Harriet appeared on Neil Cavuto's show from the Republican National Convention. O-bot troll prophylactic: some of us PUMAs aren't following the Republican ticket as Harriet has freely chosen to do, but because the 2008 DNC decided to commit voter fraud and ruthless sexist propaganda to oust the popular vote winner, this is what happens:

Remember Harriet, lifelong Democrat and diner waitress who campaigned tirelessly for Hillary Clinton? here's a reminder:

As a proud feminist Latina with Afro-Carribean roots, I do not feel that what Harriet Christan said was in any way r*cist. She told the truth as she lived it and saw it in person at the RBC meeting. Our Infantry Co-Commanders and PUMAmobile Denver trekkers GaryChapelHill and Mawm also witnessed the hijack and voter fraud on May 31st 2008. Our PUMA Delegates witnessed firsthand reports from the "Hotel Roll Call vote" from the 2008 DNC and how 18 million votes were thrown under the proverbial Obama bus. No more.

So Harriet, even though I probably won't vote for either of the major parties this November, I salute you today for being that Working Class Hero, like John Lennon sang of in this song. Raise those killer Long Islands for Harriet and to all those Working Class Heros that aren't down with their vote being thrown in the trash for the sake of "party unity."

¡Que viva los PUMAs! (Long Live PUMAs!)

by Treadmarkz

The other day I was thumbing through a rack of old LPs at a kiosk on the St. Vital Mall in Winnipeg, and I found a stack of Beatles records that for some reason nobody had snatched up yet. I didn't waste a moment in deciding to buy the LP version of "Magical Mystery Tour", "Beatles Live at the Hollywood Bowl" and "Yesterday...and Today."

As if this wasn't enough for a Beatles fanatic like me, I found out after the fact that all proceeds from purchases made at this kiosk were to go to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. A little piece of cosmic serendipity, possibly. I wish I could say I bought the records because I wanted to make a benevolent contribution to the Reeve cause, but that is simply not true. But I am glad I bought them.

I am in a wheelchair with a spinal chord related disorder myself so I had a pretty good idea what the Reeve Foundation was about, but I looked into it a little more last night. I am not going to go into the issue of Spinal Cord Injury research too much, but regardless of your opinion on the controversial issue, what they are doing at the Reeve Foundation can only lead to some good coming to those whose lives have been changed to an indefinite degree by their injury.

Take a look at the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation by clicking HERE. I'll be adding it to my blog roll soon.

DESCRIBE YOUR MUSICAL STYLE: I'm not sure I have one…probably.

HOW'D YOU GET STARTED PLAYING MUSIC? 6th grade talent show we had a rap act that included me playing Iron Man and Peter Gunn on guitar. We got signed by a rep from Atlantic and the rest is history. (Just kidding about that last part.)

FAVORITE LOCAL MUSICIAN BESIDES YOURSELF (AND WHY): Right now I really like Memphis Pencils because they successfully blend a lot of stuff that I like and they are pretty down to earth fellas as far as I know.

WHAT'S IN YOUR POCKET RIGHT NOW? Nada, I like to keep 'em light.

YOUR FAVORITE VENUE IN LITTLE ROCK (AND WHY)? I like most of the venues in Little Rock. We have played White Water, Vino's, Sticky Fingerz, and Juanita's. No complaints here. I don't love seeing shows at Vino's, but it's a good hang out. White Water is my favorite. It just feels right, and nowadays they are actually trying to get it to sound right. Its nice to play in clubs with big sound systems, because they might make you sound great, but at least at the WW, if you sound bad you can really only blame yourself.

TELL ME ABOUT THE FIRST "REAL" CONCERT YOU EVER ATTENDED. Cool & the Gang in 6th grade. It was bittersweet, because I didn't get to sit next to the girl I was "going with".

HOW ABOUT THE FIRST SHOW YOU EVER DID YOURSELF? I think it was a coffee shop called Java Strait in a strip mall in Fayetteville. It was a couple acoustic guitars jangling around on indie rock and surf rock sounding stuff. It was scary. It took years for me to get comfortable on stage, but I finally realized that no matter what you do, if you put yourself in front of people, some of them will like it and some wont. You can never stop those who don't like it from talking shit. Somehow that realization was liberating for me, but I can't seem to relate it to other people very well.

BEST SOURCE FOR MUSICAL INFO? (MAG, WEBSITE, ETC) Dunno, friends I guess.

WHAT DOES THIS TOWN NEED? Continued organization efforts. I'd say we're doing pretty well all things considered. Fayetteville needs some help though.

YOUR THREE FAVORITE ALBUMS, ALL-TIME: John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, Canyon/Empty Rooms, Zombies/Odyssey & Oracle

RE YOUR MUSIC: DOES YOUR MOM LIKE IT OR NOT? Yeah.

FUNNIEST THING THAT'S EVER HAPPENED AT ONE OF YOUR SHOWS: We were playing at North 6th in Brooklyn. It's a pretty big stage and there was a decent sized crowd. I launched into this big guitar solo intro without realizing that the drummer was lighting a cigarette or something, so I basically went from soloing at the front of the stage to slinking to the back of the stage hoping nobody would notice that no other instruments had started playing when I thought they were going to. Everybody accused me of having taken mushrooms before the show.

AS A KID, WHAT'D YOU WANT TO GROW UP TO BE? A soccer player. I don't think I even knew professional soccer players existed.

MUSICAL/LIFE ADVICE YOU'D GIVE TO MY 13 YEAR OLD GUITAR FIEND SON? Try to write a song as early as possible. Learn to write songs before you learn any music theory or how to read music. If you learn the theory first you will get locked into a system. If you write songs and then learn music theory it will open up your songwriting.

*This was sent to me through email, I found it much interesting!*

DID YOU KNOW THESE FACTS? - I SURE DIDNT TILL NOW
Death is certain but the Bible speaks about untimely death!
Make a personal reflection about this.....
Very interesting, read until the end.....

It is written in the Bible (Galatians 6:7): 'Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sow, that shall he also reap

Here are some men and women who mocked God :

1) John Lennon (Singer):
Some years before, during his interview with an American Magazine, he said: "Christianity will end, it will disappear. I do not have to argue about that. I am certain. Jesus was ok, but his subjects were too simple, today we are more famous than Him" (1966). Lennon, after saying that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, was shot six times.

2) Tancredo Neves (President of Brazil ): During the Presidential campaign, he said if he got 500,000 votes from his party, not even God would remove him from Presidency. Sure he got the votes, but he got sick a day before being made President, then he died.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="187" caption="Tancredo Neves"][/caption]

3) Cazuza (Bi-sexual Brazilian composer, singer and poet): During A show in Canecio ( Rio de Janeiro ), while smoking his cigarette, he puffed out some smoke into the air and said:'God, that's for you.' He died at the age of 32 of LUNG CANCER in a horrible manner.

4) The man who built the Titanic (Harland and Wolff): After the construction of Titanic, a reporter asked him how safe the Titanic would be. With an ironic tone he said: 'Not even God can sink it' The result: I think you all know what happened to the Titanic.

5) Marilyn Monroe (Actress): She was visited by Billy Graham during a presentation of a show. He said the Spirit of God had sent him to preach to her. She responded: 'Only If He (God) Travels In The Trunk, Cause Inside Here.....It's Already Full' Hours later, news came by that they had been involved in a fatal accident, everyone had died, the car could not be recognized what type of car it had been, but surprisingly, the trunk was intact. The police said there was no way the trunk could have remained intact. To their surprise, inside the trunk was a crate of eggs, none was broken.

Don't you just love it when your favourite artists suddenly announce a new album and then, *whoosh*, before you've even finished reading the press release, there it is, giving the eye to your credit card. Without so much as a whisper of a warning, luminous Norwegian singer-songwriter Ane Brun this week brought us a lovely surprise with the release of Sketches, a collection of demos of all the songs from her recent album Changing Of The Seasons (which still hasn't had a proper physical release in the UK - come on people!), plus two new songs.

Performed mostly with just voice and guitar or voice and piano, Sketches brings the breathless intimacy of an Ane Brun concert to your living room. The two new songs, ‘Miss Moaning' and ‘My Baby's Arms' were originally recorded for inclusion on Changing Of The Seasons but didn't really fit with that album's overall themes and so were discarded. Until now. Sketches is exclusively available through www.klicktrack.com and through Ane's website.

A best-selling, award-winning artist in Scandinavia, Ane Brun plans to follow this year's two album releases with a new concert DVD, due to be filmed at Stockholm's Konserthus on October 3rd with a view to getting it out by the end of the year.

Also pulling a surprise release out of their hat is Espers vocalist and solo sensation Meg Baird. Teaming up with her sister Laura for the follow-up to 2006's The Baird Sisters At Home, Meg brings us the traditional and contemporary folk sounds of Lonely Town, available from iTunes and eMusic now. The album was recorded less than a month ago by Jeff Zeigler, live off the floor at Uniform Recording in The Baird Sisters' native Philadelphia. Meg and Laura sing and play guitar, banjo, mandolin and mountain dulcimer.

Neko Case will release her fifth solo studio album next March, almost exactly three years since the critically revered Fox Confessor Brings The Flood hit the shops. Like its predecessor, Middle Cyclone will be released through the Anti- label. Performing at the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle last weekend, Neko played three new songs and a cover of Harry Nilsson's ‘Don't Forget Me' rumoured to be included on the upcoming album. You can watch an audience taping by festivalgoer Katie Parker here. Neko sounds amazing.

Even though Wears The Trousers writer Rod Thomas is featured in their current issue (his single Same Old Lines is out later this month [video]), it has to be said that Q Magazine is hardly a reliable bastion of taste these days. And so they have proved yet again with the unveiling of the shortlist for their annual awards. Female artists are well represented in the minor categories, with Duffy, Adele, Santogold, Gabriella Cilmi, The Ting Tings, Goldfrapp and, er, Katy Perry, all getting nods. The Ting Tings are the biggest contenders, up for three awards including Best New Act, Best Track and Best Video (both for ‘That's Not My Name').

Fans can vote for their favourite bands on the shortlist and the winners will be announced at a ceremony on October 6th at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
Eccentric Australian singer Sia releases new single ‘Soon We'll Be Found', the latest track to be lifted from her recent album Some People Have Real Problems, as a digital download on October 13th. A video directed by Claire Carré (Rainer Maria, The Spill Canvas) features Sia and friends using sign language to tell the story behind the lyrics. "I've always been obsessed with the beauty of sign language," says Sia. "The movement and expression just appears, to ignorant-hearing-me, as a dance...a beautiful, emotive dance. But the real beauty is that, hidden in these perfect shapes, is communication." The video is expected to premiere soon.

After a long absence from coffee tables across the nation, Dido is due to make a comeback in November with the release of her third album Safe Trip Home - not the most inspiring title for someone who is, perhaps, the very definition of ‘safe'. But wait! She's co-produced the album with unconventional studio whizz Jon Brion - the man behind that version of Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine - and her brother Rollo Armstrong. This could be interesting after all. Listen to the new single ‘Don't Believe In Love' and judge for yourself. You can also download a free MP3 of another album track, ‘Look No Further', courtesy of AOL. Safe Trip Home is released on November 4th.

Few things over the last few weeks have been less interesting than the will-she-won't-she saga surrounding Britney Spears and this year's MTV VMAs, due to be held on Sunday at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. Thankfully the whole issue has been put to rest with official confirmation that, yes, Britney will be there but, no, she won't be singing. In a statement Spears said: "MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs? I'm excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated."

Quite what opening the show will entail remains a mystery, but given that the star has three nominations (for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video of the Year for ‘Piece Of Me') and has never won before, it's bound to get people talking whatever happens. I mean, they already are, right?

With the huge success of their 2004 concert album, Live In Manchester & Dublin, behind them, Mexican ex-pats Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero follow 2006's frenetic, eponymous, instrumental studio album with a second live document. Live In Japan (nothing like telling it how it is!) is a 2CD+DVD set recorded on the eve of their first ever Japanese gig at Tokyo's Duo Club at the end of March. It hits the shops on October 20th.

If you name your child Dandilion Wind Opaine you'd better hope that she (or he, I suppose) has the creative nous to make it worthwhile. Canadian multimedia artist Dandi Wind has already proven her creative chops over the course of several singles, EPs and the excellent Concrete Igloo. Expect her new album Yolk Of The Golden Egg (out September 23rd in Canada) to go even further.
Is Jessica Lea Mayfield America's answer to our very own Laura Marling? The 18-year-old singer-songwriter has a similar wise-beyond-her-years outlook, with a country twist. Her debut album, With Blasphemy So Heartfelt, which Pitchfork describes as "bootgazer country tunes about young love and deep scars", was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys and is out in the States on September 16th.

Nine songs that sound the same, or nine songs about the same thing? That question surrounded Love Is All's noisy pop debut Nine Times That Same Song but was soon forgotten in the shuffle of our own feet. Three years down the line they're challenging us to come up with a century of plausible reasons for insomniac behaviour. The Swedes' new album, A Hundred Things Keep Me Up At Night, was produced by former Aislers Set guitarist Wyatt Cusick and is out November 10th. A brief European tour is in the offing from next week but they're giving the UK a wide berth for now. Expect them back soon though.

Dolly Parton's involvement in Jessica Simpson's transition to country ‘star' has been well documented, but in a new interview Jessica revealed that she owes more than just the title track of her new album, Do You Know, to Dolly. Simpson says she nearly gave up singing altogether after a particularly damning incident in which the CBS TV network edited out her performance of ‘9 To 5' from a ceremony to honour Dolly's lifetime achievements, deeming it too bad to be aired, but Dolly saved the day. Damn! So close.

"Dolly totally took me under her wing and helped me up and over the cares of the world," Simpson told E! Online. "She told me she's never been more proud of anything in her whole life. And I have it written down in her handwriting! I do owe a lot of my confidence to her."

Jessica isn't the only one who considered quitting music. Pink recently told The Sun newspaper that a letter she received about a 13-year-old fan's sexual abuse at the hands of her grandfather stopped her from throwing in the towel. In the letter the girl urged Pink to "never stop" making music because it gave her a reason to live. "I get chills even talking about it," said Pink. "I have 50 of the most insanely awful letters that remind me that this job isn't about me."

"It's crazy. Some people may say the new songs are heartache bullshit, but somebody out there is going to get through their pain a little easier, and that makes me feel better," she added. Her new album, Funhouse, is out October 27th.

Finally, something that's not strictly within the Wears The Trousers remit but we kinda like her (despite that ‘What If' song) so here goes...Kate Winslet is set to play John Lennon's mother Julia in an upcoming biopic directed by filmmaker, artist and celebrity photographer Sam Taylor-Wood. Julia's love of music was a strong influence on Lennon in his teenage years, and the film follows him through that time to the formation of proto-Beatles, The Quarrymen, with Paul McCartney and George Harrison. BAFTA-winning writer Matt Greenhalgh who recently worked on the Joy Division film, ‘Control', penned the screenplay that the major studios will be bidding over later today at the Toronto Film Festival.

"Eve of Destruction" sounds Dylanesque to the core, but where this song differs is it's not as all "self important" as Dylan is, rather the "Eve of Destruction" song is honest ... I can imagine every Dylan fan wants to grab their AK47's in disgust of such a comment, but then that is the contradiction between the two artists.
Another interesting aspect about this song is that even though it's about the Vietnam War it does not have that sensation of Hippynism, as one would imagine flowers and Tie-Dye exploding. This song is rockier, edgier, almost a "Lennon" like chant as "Give Peace a Chance". If desired, this song would need only a few tweaks and guitar modulations and it would be a number 1 hit in 2007, just in time for the (sponsered by)"i-Pod War aka Iraq Police Action" or even the "Iran WW III Conflict"

After his mega-hit "Eve of Destruction," McGuire was set to do a follow-up album, complete with some excellent P.F. Sloan songs. During the early sessions, the Mamas & the Papas had just come into town. Being old friends of McGuire's from the folkie days (Barry was the lead voice on "Green, Green," by the New Christy Minstrels), he invited the group to audition for producer Lou Adler. The rest is history, and this record is essentially the Mamas audition, as they sing backgrounds on virtually all of the record. It's magnificent, too. Current hits such as "Do You Believe In Magic," "Yesterday," and others work perfectly with McGuire's gravely lead voice and the Mamas & Papas sweet harmonies. McGuire even cut "California Dreamin'," and it's the exact same track as the famous Mamas version, sans Doherty's lead vocal and Bud Shank's flute solo. If you're looking to find the real roots of the Mamas & the Papas, here it is. Unfortunately, Dunhill apparently wanted little to do with Barry McGuire after the backlash of "Eve of Destruction," and his career and this record presided in ignominy. Too bad, because there is a lot of excellent music here. ~ [Matthew Greenwald, All Music Guide]

Fans of Elvis Presley are to get a once in a lifetime opportunity to own his fingerprints at auction in London this week. The unusual piece of rock'n'roll memorabilia will go under the hammer at the Idea Generation Gallery. The prints are the only surviving set from The King in existence, according to reports, although it is unclear how much money they will fetch.

Appearing on Presley's application for a concealed gun permit, the prints are thought to be the only set from the icon in existence.

The memorabilia auction, entitled 'It's More Than Rock and Roll', will take place September 4 at the Idea Generation Gallery, London. Other items up for grabs include a hand-carved 1968 artwork version of John Lennon's lyrics for 'Sexy Sadie', named 'The Private Mind Of John Lennon', Marilyn Monroe's bustier from the movie 'Some Like It Hot' and a painting of legend Jimi Hendrix by The Rolling Stones' guitarist Ronnie Wood.

'Twas the night before Birthday, when all through Sesame Street

Cardboard cutouts were stirring, particularly Judge Marian Milian;

Charlotte Rae was hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that Rick Astley soon would be there (again and again and again);

The Gosselins were nestled all snug in their bitch,

While visions of Biz Markie beat-boxed in their heads;

And Judge Judy in her 'kerchief, and Tyra Banks in her weave,

Had just settled down for some 'Tom Bergeron on the Spelling Bee',

When out on the lawn there arose 'rare pictures of Judge Alex Ferrer',

Oprah sprang from Mrs. Dranklesworth to see what was the matter.

Away to the window Oprah flew like a New Kid on the Block,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the delicious food.

The Clockwork Orange on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of the Lennon Family to objects below,

OMG, what to Oprah's wondering eyebrows should appear,

But a miniature sleigh, and 'Mrs. Garrett and Natalie doing it',

With Jackie Wilson, so lively and quick,

Oprah knew in a moment it must be Gomez Addams.

More crazy than the March Hare his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and peed, and called them by name;

"Now, Judge David Young! now, Dancer! now, 'Cassie Steele from Degrassi' and Vixen!

On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Mad Hatter and Blitzen!

To the top of the porch! to the top of the MAXIglide!

Now Scasm Flasm! Scasm Flasm! Scasm Flasm away all!"
