We will deal with this issue using the alternate definition of the word insourcing, since in theory, everything is possible. Since we are currently in America, this term will refer to transferring jobs to local contractors and facilities that are physically located in the United States of America.

This is an election year, and there is talk from both candidates about putting America back to work. Each candidate states their commitment to this but maybe small businesses can lead the charge for their respective industries. With supportive government policies, that are enforced, the number of jobs located in America just might increase.

For example, since free trade isn’t always fair trade, how about having product documentation targeted at the American consumer, written in America? Our company has rewritten product guides that were originally written in a country where English was not the first language. It turned out that outsourcing wasn’t appropriate in this case. In short, they had to pay to have the same work done twice. Where is the savings here? We don’t see any and neither do our clients.

Supporting policies and infrastructure may assist in avoiding issues like this and promote a win-win for both the corporate bottom line and the American worker. But this is just a theory, and in theory, everything is possible!

Photoshop is meant for photo manipulation. This means, you should probably open this one first to work on all of your photos and make them look as good as you can before going any further in the project.

Illustrator/Freehand/Corel Draw should be used for any graphics you need. From shapes and symbols to any elaborate vector drawings you may need for the final design. Try not to bring photos into this program as they can slow the program down to a snails pace and will probably not look as good as they do in Photoshop or Indesign. Illustrator also limits you to one page so it's pretty much useless if you are doing booklets or multi-page designs. Freehand allows multi-pages, but as it is a dying program, it is better to use Indesign for later editing.

Indesign/Quark Express are the page layout programs most commonly used. Most of the places that have been around for a long time will probably still be using Quark, while newer companies and places that have recently updated are more likely to have Indesign. This is where you take all of the stuff you made in the other programs and put it together to make your delicious design. Personally I have never done more with Quark than a basic tutorial and prefer to spend my time learning Indesign as it seems to be where the industry is moving, but I have seen plenty of ads for designers that require that you know how to use this program, so I wouldn't say that it is dead yet.

What program have I not mentioned? Word! Word processors are not design tools. I don't care if they have those nifty little templates and can accept photos, if you are ever planning on sending the work to a true designer, or even a printer, do not expect them to be able or willing to touch a .doc (word file). They will almost always rip out their hair, cry a little, than have to recreate the entire design if you send it to them this way, which can be impossible or nearly so. So DON'T USE ANY WORD PROGRAM FOR YOUR DESIGN!!! Seriously! Or I will hunt you down and break your computer.

Started building a tree house yesterday and worked on it a bit today, i will have to post pics of it when it's all done. Maybe the Fed's will come take it down cause it looks like a "religious compound" but the kids are lovin it. Now the spirits have had there fun and me to, so i am guided to get back to business and work. Just completed a sketch and quote for a garage door mural... That would be a nice job..... In Photoshop I can directly edit elements in an intuitive way, Illustrator not so much, that's the bottom line.

apa anda pernah membaca buku 13 Wasiat Terlarang, Dasyat Dengan Otak Kanan karya Ippo S. kalo blum wah berarti anda emang kurang gaul.

makanya saat ini selain seorang programmer java, saya juga mulai masuk ke design, terutama vector. why vector, not bitmap? alesannya simple, saya gak punya camera digital, hahahaahhaaaa

I often find myself in the situation of defending my chosen way of working. Why?

Well, it is a common misunderstanding that digital painting is exactly like traditional painting, only in a virtual space. The canvas is virtual, the brush is virtual and the paint is virtual, yes, that is true, but many digital painters work with more than just virtual paint. There are those who prefer to only use their own custom brush sets and mix their colours from scratch in a virtual palette, because if you don´t you are "cheating"... That is bullshit! Why?

Well, I honestly believe that in the world of art making, as long as you don´t steal another mans work, there is nothing that is called cheating! As an artist and illustrator my goal is to produce artwork for my clients with the best quality possible within the amount of time given, and that means that I have to use every trick in the book to make that happen. Most digital painters work with photography in some way or the other. Some use it as resource material, some use texture stock to make custom brushes, some use it as a base and paint on top of it and some uses bits and pieces of many pictures to create an entire new world!  We cut and mix and blend and paint, and we may even extract colours from a photography with a special atmosphere in it and create a colour theme and palette from that. We adjust contrasts and lighting by pressing the right button on our computers, and we work in layers because it makes editing (and regretting things:P) easier. IT IS NOT CHEATING, IT IS A TECHNIQUE!

I think people get confused by the term "Digital Painting" because it suggests that it is all in fact "painted", but it really is a mix of painting, drawing, editing and photo manipulation. And it should not be compared so harshly to traditional painting because it is two very very very VERY very (very) different things!

Remember, this is my point of views, you may not agree and that is totally up to you. Feel free to let me know what you think about this subject;)

En cuanto a los detalles técnicos, comentaros que las tiras están realizadas integramente en Illustrator y dibujadas con una tableta Wacom Cintiq 12 WX.

Si o gustan me encantaría que me lo hicierais saber, ya que, como os podéis imaginar, saber que hay alguien a quien le interesa lo que haces es el mejor acicate para continuar perseverando y no dejar el proyecto abandonado en el ólvido.

Let's start with some basic color pickers.

(+) It's always at your fingertips; no external program to open up or extra steps to go through. [It sure beats having to take a screencap, then open a program like Photoshop and THEN get the color using the eyedrop tool so that you can finally use it.] Another plus: it's free to download and use, like any Firefox add-on.

(-) The only drawback is that it only works within Firefox (well duh!) and doesn't cross over to anything outside of the browser window.

(+) The most versatile color picker out there. You can get exactly the color you want from anywhere on the screen.

(-) Sometimes it's just as much work to utilize with other programs.

(+) This is a great tool for choosing harmonious colors. It's especially useful for people who have a hard time choosing colors on their own. You can also access the kuler community database in Adobe Illustrator and export your themes for use in Illustrator (login required to save and export).

(-) The biggest drawback to kuler is the default black/gray background with (currently) no option for white or another color. The fact is that colors appear different when shown with other colors. This is known as the Bezold Effect. (Wikipedia actually has a pretty good example using black and white: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bezold_Effect). It is surprising that a community built on/for Color Theory would make such an erroneous decision at its very core. I'm left with the impression that they care more about making kuler look cool for the community than making it fully functional for designers.

Adobe's Video Workshop explains everything better than I could right here. Just select "Color" from the list of topics on the right and it should be one of the first videos results. Unfortunately I can't link directly to the video for you because the Video Workshop page is Flash-based.

(+) You can export your color swatches for use in Photoshop and Illustrator (no signup needed). Create as many color swatches as you need. One of the preview modes allows you to view each color next to all the others (so you can see just how the color all the way on the left looks with the color all the way on the right). Nifty!

In the Color Sphere: Color Theory Visualizer you can switch between black and white backgrounds as well as select from a wide variety of color rules. Exactly what Adobe's kuler was lacking.

(-) There are so many other features, software and links that I can't begin to tell you about them here. You'll have to check out for yourself.

I recenlty created a page called EXPOSURE for links to all the places i've been featured at/in. It's right there at the tippy top. Hopefully I'll be able to add more links! Looking at my gmail night and day for my "you've been selected to join MTV's engineroom" email! HA! I'm submitting to about 4 zines, real hard copy zines, and about 2-3 electronic ones.
