Trecand peste interfata practica si desenata elegant, Google vine cu o noutate in domeniul navigarii pe internet, urmarind satisfacerea consumatorului bun cunoscator si fidel utilizator al acestui mediu. Dupa pornirea browserului aveti posibilitatea de a naviga incognito apasand Ctrl+Shift+N sau folosind meniul. Conform descrieirii acestei functii 'Navigarea in modul incognito nu permite ca informatiile despre site-urile Web pe care le-ati vizitat să fie memorate în Chrome. Site-urile Web pe care le vizitati pot avea insa inregistrari ale vizitei dvs. Fisierele salvate pe computer vor ramane totusi in computerul dvs.'

Chrome mai pune la dispozitia utilizatorilor un 'Manager de activitati', care poate fi accesat efectuand un click dreapta pe bara browserului si selectand 'Administrare activitati', si posibilitatea de a 'trage file din browser pentru a crea ferestre noi' sau pentru a cumula mai multe file intr-o singura fereastra.

In plus, browserul dispune de suport integrat pentru elementele flash, utilizatorul nemaifiind nevoit sa instaleze separat suportul pentru acestea, ca in cazul celorlalte programe de navigare.

J'avais commencé par essayer d'installer Chrome sous Linux avec Wine et Crossover, sans succès.
Je n'y ait pas passé trop de temps, juste lancer l'installeur, puis rien, puis capitulation.

Donc, le temps de choper une machine XP qui traine, histoire de voir ce que cela donne.

Installation: Si le programme d'installation ne fait que 470 ko, il ne faut pas rêver: il télécharge le reste, et au final, chrome occupe plus de 40 Mo sur le disque. La localisation du programme, dans le profil utilisateur plutôt que dans \Program files , n'est pas très conventionnelle. Elle permet à un compte non-administrateur d'installer le logiciel. Par contre, en environnement partagé (TSE/Citrix) il faudra un chrome (42 Mo) par utilisateur. Pour 100 users ça grimpe vite.

1. Consomation mémoire

Avec 1, puis 3, puis 6 onglet, sur les mêmes pages (aux pub près), voici les Mo utilisés:

Finalement, c'est IE7 qui consomme le moins, à condition que le gestionnaire de taches indique bien l'ensemble. Chrome attend peut-être encore quelques optimisations de ce côté. Par contre, la fermeture d'un onglet dans Chrome libère réellement la mémoire, ce qui n'est pas forcément le cas des autres. Néamoins, Chrome reste fluide et rapide, même dans ces conditions.

à savoir: Chrome ajoute en tache de fonds un programme qui est sensé rechercher une éventuelle mise à jour: 1.5 Mo de plus.

2. Vitesse

Chrome s'ouvre très rapidement, plus vite que Firefox. Il affiche les pages avec la plus grande rapidité, surtout sur les pages longues, ou construites avec du javascript. Les promesses de V8 semblent tenues. Webkit est du tonnerre.

3. Aspect

Alors là, Chrome fait très fort et séduit très vite.

• La page de démarrage reproduisant en vignettes les pages les plus consultées dans l'historique est très plaisante. Il y a risque d'addiction ;-)
• L'espace maximal est laissé au contenu.
• la barre d'adresse et de recherche (idée reprise de Firefox 3) qui utilise les bookmarks, l'historique ET de suggestions google, est très bien faite. Pas un gadget, mais un système pratique.
• L'interface de Chrome est logique, homogène. C'est du tout bon.
  Comparativement, je n'ai pas compris ce qui était arrivé aux designers d'IE7: on dirait un truc de bricolo, alors que Chrome donne immédiatement l'impression d'un navigateur pensé pour être pratique, par des gens qui utilisent un navigateur pour surfer, pas pour montrer un navigateur.

4. Pour le developpeur web

Le gestionnaire de taches du navigateur est vraiment très pratique. On voit d'un coup d'oeil quel onglet est gourmand. Et histoire de désigner le bon coupable, le plugin flash est à part. On voit ici les 6 onglets qui on été utilisés pour le test de RAM.

Par contre, le gestionnaire de tâche révèle que parfois plusieurs onglets partagent le même thread. Le gestionnaire de taches de Windows montre le même comportement, de même que about:memory dans chrome. Curieux.

L'inspecteur de page ne ressemble pas à un truc de geek, c'est joliment fait.

5.Google

Ouuu, ça fait peur, c'est Google le futur big brother : certains ont lu la licence.

Il semble que ce soit le même baratin pour tous les services, si bien que la licence d'utilisation de Chrome parle de la propriété des contenus publiés avec les services google (Blogger, Photo, etc...) et de l'affichage de publicités (Search et Gmail).

Bon, il est tout de même très improbable qu'après avoir montré un joli navigateur, avec le maximum d'espace pour afficher les pages, Google se mette à y insérer de la pub. La démarche de Google là dessus à toujours été claire et honnête : la pub dans search ou gmail était annoncée dès le début.

6. Conclusion.

D'entrée de jeux, le design est très attractif, et la rapidité est au rendez-vous. Chrome est fluide, même en consommant plus de mémoire. Pour une première version publique, c'est tout de même d'un sacré niveau. Le gestionnaire de tâche permet de voir l'importante consommation de ressource imputable à flash. Durant les tests, Firefox 3 s'est fait avoir par une fenêtre pop-up, et le contenu flash de la pub m'a utilisé 99% du temps cpu :-( . Ceux qui disent que Flash caylemal n'ont peut-être pas tord. En tout cas, Flash fait du mal aux navigateurs. Jean-Marie Le Ray se plaint des plantages de Firefox, à mon avis c'est ou flash, ou son profil qui a été utilisé par 2 versions.

Sinon, je suis surpris que Chrome propose d'importer l'historique et les bookmarks de Firefox, mais pas d'Explorer. Pourquoi, si c'est Explorer qui est visé ? La partie importaion du profil IE n'est pas terminée ?

Finalement, le résultat est positif, même s'il reste quelques petites choses à finir. Le temps pour les webmaster du dimanche de refaire leurs sites non respectueux des standards. Dans tous les cas, plus Chrome,  Firefox et Safari auront de parts de marché, plus les sites deviendront conformes, et ça c'est vraiment une bonne chose.

Le seul truc qui me chiffone vraiment, c'est qu'il faut attendre pour avoir Chrome sous Linux. En tardant trop, Google risquerait presque de me pousser à repasser sous Windows... ;-)

Ontem teve o lançamento quase discreto no navegador da Google, o Google Chrome. Vem equipado com o mesmo motor do Safari, o WebKit. A performance Javascript é incrivel e o controle de memória excelente, já fizeram páginas mostrando a perfomance mostruosa do brinquedinho da Google.

Mas e dai? Mais um novo navegador cheio de recursos, com uma histórinha em quadrinhos dizendo que ele é o "top best of the world?", já vi muito isso.

O problema é o Internet Explorer 6 mesmo, do que me adianta mais um novo navegador, que vai ser menos usado? Enquanto tiver o uso do IE6 próximo do zero, poderemos em pensar em utilizar todo o poder dos novos navegadorres, os novos recursos de CSS, animações em Canvas. O uso do IE7 aumentou, pricipalmente quando não precisou mais de autenticação para baixa-lo, mas ainda tem uma grande fatia da pizza que utiliza o monstrinho da Microsoft, por isso não posso ir para frente, desenvolver algo poderoso, sem ter que ficar ajustando para o velho navegador. Ou terei que fazer avisos como "seu navegador é muito velho, nao poderá entrar no meu site cheio de recursos novos"?

Por estes motivos que não ligo para o Google Chrome.

O mais rídiculo foi ver que a blogosfera inteira postou sobre ele, tudo que é feed de blog que eu lia tinha lá algo da Google e do show da Madonna lógico,  ninguem se preocupou em fazer este tipo de análise, somente o Tableless, vergonhoso.

E pensar que na minha época Chrome era algo que se colocava em bicicleta para se fazer. :P

Vi agora lendo meus feeds no Bernabauer.com, a Google Chrome tem um contrato muito do safado. De acordo com o que foi comentado, tudo o que você postar na Web é de direito da Google (isso que dá não ler o EULA dos programas), parece que viram que deu polêmica o tal contrato e estão resolvendo o problema, tirando as cláusulas do "demo".

11.1 O usuário retém direitos autorais e quaisquer outros direitos que já tiver posse em relação ao Conteúdo que enviar, postar ou exibir nos Serviços ou através deles. Ao enviar, postar ou exibir o conteúdo, o usuário concede ao Google uma licença irrevogável, perpétua, mundial, isenta de royalties e não exclusiva para reproduzir, adaptar, modificar, traduzir, publicar, distribuir publicamente, exibir publicamente e distribuir qualquer Conteúdo que o usuário enviar, postar ou exibir nos Serviços ou através deles. Essa licença tem como único objetivo permitir ao Google exibir, distribuir e promover os Serviços, e ela poderá ser revogada para alguns deles, conforme definido nos Termos Adicionais.

Esse tipo de coisa tem dedinho do depto. comercial, odeio esse departamento, sempre querendo tirar proveito. ¬__¬'

The benchmarks were run on my HP Pavillion dv2308tx laptop with 2GB memory running Windows Vista Home Premium, browsers tested are:

• Google Chrome Beta 1
• Flock 1.2.4
• Firefox 3
• Safari 3.1.2 (like Chrome Safari uses WebKit engine)
• IE7

Kemarin pagi (02 September), waktu googling  eh... dapat info kalau Google si raksasa SE mau meluncurkan browser-nya yang diberi nama Chrome.  Sekalian saja tulisan itu jadi berita di blog ini, terus saya disconnect dan melanjutkan pekerjaan yang lain.

Siangnya sekitar jam 12 saya makan di tempat yang ada hotspot-nya (langganan). Wow... kaget juga karena pengunjungku melonjak sudah 200-an.  Nah, sambil makan saya ikutin perkembangannya dan memang pemicunya si Chrome itu.

Semua surfer (atau apalah namanya) berebutan mencari info peluncuran Chrome yang ternyata baru bisa di unduh (download) tengah malam.  Pasti sekarang sudah pada dicoba Chrome-nya.  Tampilannya biasa-biasa saja, lebih mirip IE7 ketimbang Opera, dan agak beda dari Firefox (terutama Tab-nya).  Kecepatannya beda-beda tipis dengan yang lainnya, dan ini masih versi beta, jadi berharap versi lengkapnya jauh lebih baik sesuai dengan janji Google.

Ada yang unik dalam peluncuran Chrome ini yang didahului dengan komik sebanyak 25 halaman, yang bercerita tentang apa saja fasilitas yang disediakan ataupun kelengkapan lainnya.  Memang enak rasanya muncul disaat browser yang lain sudah meng-update untuk melengkapi kekurangannya terutama dari segi keamanan.

Nah, karena si Chrome itu maka kemarin hari Selasa, 2 September 2008, pengunjung blog Tabaos memecahkan rekor sendiri menjadi 567 pengunjung (padahal yang comment cuma 2 orang) dari rekor lamanya yang bertahan sejak 9 Juli sebanyak 231 pengunjung dengan tulisan "Bonus Perempuannya Al Amin" sebagai pemicunya.

Hari ini, kita ikuti saja perkembangannya setelah si Chrome sudah dapat diunduh (suka salah tulis jadi ungguh, habisnya selalu ingat si ungku).

Il problema è che non sembra avere nessuna novità interessante. Tranne forse, una maniera semplificata per navigare in "incognito" (i pornonauti ringraziano): cioè un tipo di navigazione che non lascia nessuna traccia sul proprio computer dei siti visitati. Niente cookie, niente cronologia, nada de nada: i piccoli segreti rimangono tali.

Forse persone abituate all'uso di internet explorer possono, magari, vederlo come una rivoluzione rispetto ad ie7 ma un qualsiasi utente di Mozilla Firefox lo guarderà con tenerezza, come si guarda un bambino che muove i primi passi. Non penso che questo Google Chrome potrà mai scalzare la cara volpe di fuoco semplicemente perchè firefox è comunitario: cioè ognuno può scrivere e produrre plugin e quindi rendere l'esperienza di tutti gli utenti migliore. Non so quale approccio userà Google per ovviare a questa importantissima mancanza, altrimenti il neonato Chrome farà la fine di IE7 e dell'inutile safari della Mac.

Per ora è una beta, continuerò a tempo perso a dargli un'occhiata ma non penso che lo userò mai.

I have downloaded the latest SLIM version of  CCleaner, an excellent application that I was made aware of when parading a painfully pernicious (undelicious) pooter pickle before the hugely knowledgeable and greatly goodly folk at Computer Hope.

What makes CCleaner must-have software is its outstanding ability to purge paralysed pollution from the shady recesses of your machine. My PC has surfed sparingly and yet almost a gigabyte of unnecessary files have just been flushed from IE7.

L' ho provato personalmente, e rispetto a IE7, è decisamente meglio, anche nei particolari (le schede si aprono con più velocità, mentre prima aspettavo 2-3 secondi). Ecco uno screen:

Bisogna dire che Microsoft ha fatto progressi, ma è ancora lontana da Firefox e Opera (al termine dell'installazione IE8 richiede il riavvio, mentre i concorrenti si avviano subito dopo l'installazione). In compenso però, la navigazione è più veloce e più sicura.

The laptop that I do most of my development on has an Intel Centrino Duo sticker on it. I guess that means it's at least 2 years or so old. I also know that it has 1Gb of RAM and apart from that the GPU is probably some standard on board affair. I test my JavaScript against IE7 and Firefox 3.

I started off by creating around 10 or 20 sprites. I should add that each sprite is actually an object that I create as an element and place inside the document at run time. I have a number of methods that I can then manipulate the object with and one such method is movement. I have 3 movement methods: SnapTo, MoveBy and Move.

SnapTo is quite simply move Sprite to X,Y.
MoveBy is the most useful method in that it moves the selected sprite in the direction identifed by it's Direction property. (Hopefully that makes sense!) In short I simply perform the following to move the sprite:

Sprite[n].MoveBy(inc);

and the code does the rest.
Move is more of a "give the instruction then sit back and watch it move" type approach. I simply specify the target X and Y and also the amount that I want it to move by. When the sprite hits the desired location it's TargetHit property gets populated.

So for the first few sprites that I created I decided to run each through the above methods and I found that they all performed quickly with no visible jerkiness. I was very pleasantly surprised and rather delighted that my initial estimate at on-screen sprites required for a good game had been met. (I never really designed anything that would require more than a couple of dozen sprites on screen at once).

So eager to push the limit I upped the threshold for sprites on screen by quite a bit. I also decided to create a scrolling starfield backdrop that consisted of around 150 individual sprite objects no bigger than 2x2 pixels.

On top of that starfield I created 50 alien sprites and added a player ship. Every sprite had it's directional properties set and I ran them all through the game loop.

There was no visible difference in performance between this set of 200+ sprites running simultaneously and the initial test of around 20. The game design possibilities that this presents are enormous and very exciting.

But then I haven't coded any production standard collision detection yet !

Pada Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) pun, tidak jauh berbeda, anda pun dapat memasukkan kata kunci atau keyword pencarian pada kotak input berlogo Google disebelah kanan address bar. Namun pada IE7, terdapat cara yang lebih praktis lagi, yaitu anda cukup mengetikan kata kunci atau keyword pencarian  pada address bar, yaitu tempat dimana anda biasanya mengetikan alamat suatu web site. Ketika kata kunci atau keyword pencarian sudah dimasukkan pada address bar, anda tinggal menekan tombol [Enter] pada keyboard untuk menampilkan halaman hasil pencarian Google pada browser IE7. Dengan begini anda tidak perlu membuka halaman web site Google terlebih dahulu, kemudian baru memasukkan kata kunci atau keyword pencarian pada kotak input halaman Google yang muncul. Dengan IE7, kini anda dapat bergoogle ria dengan mudah dan praktis. Selamat mencoba (wp).

Many of my previous website projects and in the current ones, I used a combination of javascript and PHP script to handle this issue. There are so many free javascripts or other scripting programs that are free in the net. You would just of course select what’s best for you or what is most applicable to your coding environment.

Why? How important is this? Maybe at first thought, this could not be as vital as the real output one can show in one of the major browsers. But the dilemma is, not all your viewers have the same browser that you or your company is using. This is practically important also most especially when the website you’re working on is an e-commerce site. You will loose potential customers when they see your website from their browser when it displays garbage output (visually). And when you’re doing for a client, it will a big plus for you or your company, naturally. Not only that, you will earn the positive effect of doing it in your projects.

Now, what comes with this issue is the proper adjustment of CSS files that you’ll be doing with the browsers that you have selected. Of course one browser is (kind of a) different from another. Even with a browser that has different versions, your CSS will still vary (in one way or another). This is particularly applicable when you’re using a TABLELESS coding style. But of course it will still possibly be applied in a code with TABLES.

As far as my experience is concern, Internet Explorer 6 and 7 has many differences in their output when a single CSS is being used. Take note, this are versions of the same browser. While with Firefox 2 and 3, I have observed only few differences in their requirements of CSS tags. Between Firefox and Safari (for Windows) they have also a few differences in their CSS tags. These statements may not be necessarily true with other designers or developers.

To conclude, BROWSER COMPATIBILITY issue should be addressed in your coding works for your website projects.
