If you don't know by now, I went to the concert, and Modern Exchange was crowded by tough guy hardcore mails, and scene kids who gives me and my friend shit because we just bust out laughing on the corner. The music was also filled with stupid breakdowns for kids to start hardcore dancing to.

Oh well.

I knew it was going to be rock but I didn't realise it'd be so loud. We arrived late and missed the first set, watched the second, joined in with a headbanging friend for a bit until I fell over dizzily and got too embarrassed to carry on, and then I couldn't cope with the noise anymore. It was pretty sudden. I mean, I was doing just fine until the third band came on to set up, but then I looked at the speakers next to me and I ran out and went and sat on the floor of one of the Year 6 loo cubicles for the next forty-five minutes for a bit of light relief. It was an awful evening. I still have the scratch marks on the back of my hand from trying to keep calm and not, say, punch the wall or anything vaguely more damaging to me than my nails. It's not self-harm. At least, I don't think it is; it's not what comes to my mind when people talk about self-harming. It's just trying to pull myself back into reality. Like an anchor. When I realise I'm starting to see the world like it's painted on a sheet of canvas and hung up beside me for my pleasure alone, it generally brings me back, or at least staves off the perception till later, when I'm less likely to tell everyone all about it.

Walking home at eleven I started hating the girls I was with, which happens too much for me to be happy about it. All I wanted was for them to drop off the face of the earth because I hated how they spoke and what they said and everything they did and why were they so close to me, I hated them, why couldn't they just pick up the negative vibes and get lost? Well, probably because if they had gone, I'd have got lost. I've got no sense of direction at all. Far as they know, they're two of my best friends, anyway.

It comes and goes. I treat everything like Marmite: either love it or hate it. Never both at the same time but always one of them, and it can always change. I've kept myself awake at night thinking about what a really wonderful person my best friend Danny is and how tomorrow, soon as she gets into school, I'm going to tell her just how much I appreciate her being my friend and how I really don't deserve her even talking to me, and that she doesn't have to if she doesn't want to, but sh ereally means the world to me and does she know this? Then I get into school the next day and see her, and I can hardly talk because my hatred for her has risen up so suddely it's blocking my throat and I want to kill her.

When I took a shower this morning there were hundreds of black spiders on the door. I don't think I've ever washed that fast; it was step in, see spiders, cringe into wall, stick head under shower, and step out again. I'm off school sick this morning, too. I felt a bit icky, yes, but it's mostly because I have a big test and I forgot my books for it over the weekend, and if I took it anyway and lost more than two marks in it, my teacher would string me up by my ankles from a church steeple to rot in the sun. I've asked my sister to ask Danny to fetch me the necessary books out my locker, so when she gets home I'll have a load of fun cramming to do.

Biografia : Tratta da Wikipedia

La formazione iniziale era composta da Frank Andiver alla batteria, Andrea Bartoletti al basso, Andrea Cantarelli e Carlo Andrea Magnani alle chitarre e Fabio Tordiglione dietro al microfono. Il loro primo demo dal titolo "Midnight Resistance" risale al 1994. La band produce poi il primo EP ("Piece of Time") e finalmente il primo LP intitolato "No Limits" un anno dopo. Nel 1997 si avvicendano al microfono Fabio Lione (che lascerà la band per entrare nei Rhapsody of Fire) con Roberto Tiranti (proveniente dai New Trolls). Il gruppo sforna quindi nel 1998 "Return To Heaven Denied", sicuramente il disco più apprezzato da fan e critica. Il disco gli valse la prima partecipazione al Gods of Metal, edizione 1998. Nel frattempo Tiranti lascia momentaneamente la band e viene sostituito per pochi mesi a cavallo tra il 1998 e il 1999 e solo per il tour da Morby. La band partecipa ai principali festival metal estivi: Gods of Metal, Dynamo Open Air, Wacken. Tiranti torna poi nei Labyrinth per pubblicare "Sons of Thunder", disco molto penalizzato dalla produzione soprattutto a livello sonoro, ma che comunque raggiunge la posizione #26 nelle classifiche di vendita italiane. Questo è l'ultimo disco con Olaf Thorsen alla chitarra: il progetto parallelo Vision Divine diventa quindi la sua band principale a partire dal 2002. La band perde quindi il principale "mastermind" e sterza verso sonorità più dure rispetto al power/prog molto melodico degli esordi. I componenti della band decidono di abbandonare gli pseudonimi fin qui utilizzati a favore dei loro veri nomi. In seguito, nel 2003 iniziano le registrazione per il nuovo album, e per sottolineare come il nuovo album sia anche un nuovo inizio decidono di itititolarlo semplicemente "Labyrinth". Il passo successivo è trovare un nuovo chitarrista per gli appuntamenti live, figura che viene subito trovata nel vecchio amico di Tiranti e De Paoli Pier Gonella, con cui partecipano all'Agglutination Festival a Chiaromonte. Nel frattempo Tiranti partecipa anche al musical "i Dieci comandamenti" fino all'inizio del 2004,periodo in cui Gonella diventa il sesto membro ufficiale della band. Seguono nel corso del 2004 un importante tour in Giappone, il Banzai tour, ed uno show a Londra con i Dream Evil, eventi che portano al del con la label Arise Record. Nell'autunno iniziano le registrazione sul successore di "Labyrinth", che uscirà nel marzo 2005 col nome di "Freeman", sulla cui copertina campeggia un'inquietante manichino legato con le mani dietro la schiena, mentre nelle foto i membri del gruppo sono rinchiusi in delle camice di forza, che porteranno anche sulla scenografia live. La confezione è ulteriormente arricchita nella versione extra da un bonus dvd contenente i concerti di Tokio e Londra, i video promozionale di L.Y.A.F.H. e di FREEMAN ed il making of degli stessi. In seguito al tour da headliner si sono esibiti in 3 date di supporto a Dream Theater e Angra e successivamente hanno partecipato al Metal Way Festival a Bilbao. Nel 2006 Cristiano Bertocchi lasciò la band (per poi entrare nei Vision Divine), e invece di ingaggiare un'altro bassista fu deciso che il basso sarebbe stato suonato dallo stesso Tiranti, e con questa line-up si esibirono all'Evolution Festival. Nel 2007 diedero alla luce l'ultimo album per ora pubblicato, "6 Days To Nowhere".

Commento & Voto : Che gruppo fantastico i Labyrinth e sono pure ITALIANI. Return to heaven denied è la Monna Lisa del Progressive power metal nostrano. Musicalmente mostruosi e geniali nella composizione di ogni singola canzone. Brani come "Lady lost in time" o "State of grace" sono semplicemente da ascoltare e assaporare minuto dopo minuto, per non parlare di "Die for freedom" o "Feel" insomma un cd non solo da comprare e mostrare con orgoglio ai propri amici, ma anche da custodire come un piccolo tesoro, perchè album del genere non se ne trovano più. FENOMENALI.

I Chimaira sono un gruppo americano proveniente da Cleveland, Ohio. La loro musica è una miscela di metalcore e groove metal e assieme ai Lamb of God sono i principali padrini del cosiddetto NWOAHM. Il nome della band richiama la bestia della mitologia greca Chimera, che rappresenta l’unione di diversi animali.
I Chimaira si formano nel 1998 con la seguente line-up: Mark Hunter alla voce, Jason Hager e Rob Arnold alle chitarre, Jim LaMarca al basso, Andols Herrick alla batteria e Chris Spicuzza alle tastiere ed elettronica.
Il primo EP, This Present Darkness, venne inciso l’11 Gennaio 2000 per l’etichetta East Coast Empire. L’EP ebbe un responso positivo da parte del pubblico e della critica che convinse la Roadrunner Records a metterli sotto contratto.
Nel 2001 esce Pass Out Of Existence (che contiene alcuni brani della precedente release), che vede, tra l’altro, la defezione di Jason Hager sostituito da Matt DeVries. La band comincia una serie di interminabili tour assieme a band come Slayer, Fear Factory, Danzig, Machine Head e inoltre riesce ad esibirsi senza nessun gruppo da supportare, proprio una macchina da guerra destinata a non fermarsi. Il 2003 segna l’arrivo di The Impossibility of Reason, album che segna l’evidente maturazione del gruppo; il sound diventa più aggressivo e melodico allo stesso tempo, caratteristiche facilmente accostabili al metalcore. Lo stesso cantante dice dell’album: “…è un album che accontenta un po’ tutti. Più heavy o più melodico, è completo.”; l’album riesce a salire fino alla posizione #2 del Billboard’s “Heatseekers” chart. Partono in tour con gli In Flames e sempre nel 2003 partecipano al famosissimo Ozzfest esibendosi sul second-stage. Ulteriore conferma della qualità della band viene testimoniata dall’uscita dell’omonimo album, Chimaira, uscito nell’Agosto del 2005, dove l’uso dell’elettronica rispetto ai precedenti albums si riduce e si dà spazio ai pesanti riff e agli assoli di chitarra. Cambia il batterista in questo album, non più Andols Herrick (che comunque ritornerà dopo il tour di supporto al nuovo album) ma bensì Kevin Talley . La band viene definitivamente consacrata dall’uscita di questo nuovo album che li vede in giro per tutto il mondo, spesso nel ruolo di headliner.
I Chimaira il 13 Aprile 2006 hanno annunciato la “separazione” dalla Roadrunner Records e, dopo aver firmato per Nuclear Blast e Ferret, rispettivamente per Europa e Stati Uniti, hanno pubblicato il loro quarto album Resurrection.

Commento & Voto : Ouch! Quest'album è di una cattiveria disumana. 12 brani che si assomigliano troppo l'uno all'altro ed è un'impresa ascoltarli per più di una volta consecutivamente vista la loro pesantezza. Di norma ascolto di tutto, anche death-speed-Trash, ma qui devo alzare bandiera bianca e salvare una sola canzone in tutto l'album ovvero "Cleansation" che presa singolarmente, non è niente male davvero.

David DeFeis, un ragazzo con una grande passione per la musica, dopo essersi diplomato, nel 1981 è in cerca di una band dove proporsi come cantante. Trova l'annuncio di un gruppo in cerca di un cantante e decide di proporsi. L'audizione è un successo e viene subito accettato nella band. DeFeis però è molto insoddisfatto del bassista Kelly Nichols e decide di allontanarlo per sostituirlo con l'amico Joey "O" Reilly, Kelly comunque troverà il successo con gli L.A. Guns. Con David DeFeis alla voce, Joey "O" Reilly al basso, Jack Starr alla chitarra e Joey Ayvazian alla Batteria nel 1981 nascono ufficialmente i Virgin Steele. Iniziarono a provare insieme e dopo solo 3 settimane entrarono in studio per registrare quella che avrebbe dovuto essere una demo ma che poi diventerà l'album di debutto della band. Con soli 1.000 dollari di budget il demo viene registrato e mixato in una settimana. Jack spedisce il risultato del loro lavoro a molte riviste del settore che apprezzano molto, lo stile dei Virgin è un misto tra l'heavy statunitense e le atmosfere epiche dei Rainbow. La band non sfugge alla Shrapnel Records di Mike Varney che decide di includere la canzone Children Of The Storm nella compilation US Metal, volume II. L'album viene tirato in 10.000 copie che vanno esaurite in pochissimo tempo e il gruppo ha già un discreto numero di fan. Fra le lettere di apprezzamento arrivano anche quelle di due giovani gruppi statunitensi, rispettivamente da Seattle e dalla California, i Queensrÿche ed i Metallica. Nel 1982 i Virgin Steele firmano un contratto con la neonata casa discografica Music for Nations, risultando essere il primo gruppo messo sotto contratto dall'etichetta che poi produrrà gruppi come Metallica, Wasp, Manowar e Mercyful Fate. Dal vivo i Virgin Steele aprono per Motörhead, Riot e Manowar.

Commento & Voto : Invictus ha 10 anni di onorata carriera e non li dimostra, ancora oggi, è in grado di far impallidire l'80% di produzioni Epic Metal, è uno di quei CD immortali, come il black album dei Metallica o Nevermind dei Nirvana. Ogni singola canzone è un piccolo gioiello musicale, da "Mind, Body, Spirit" a "God Of Our Sorrows" . La voce di David DeFeis è inconfondibile e irraggiungibile, vero marchio di fabbrica dei Virgin Steele, senza nulla togliere al resto della band. In conclusione, Invictus è una pietra miliare che non può mancare nelle vostre case!

Gli Alestorm sono una band power metal (con influenze folk) scozzese originaria di Perth. Hanno definito il loro genere musicale come "True Scottish Pirate Metal", a testimonianza della prevalenza di tematiche piratesche all'interno dei loro testi. La band nacque sotto il nome Battleheart nel 2004, cambiando nome in quello attuale nell'agosto 2007, quando gli fu offerto il contratto dalla Napalm Records.

Commento & Voto : Grande energia! questo ho provato al primo ascolto di Captain Morgan's Revenge. Gli Alestorm si possono veramente definire come vero e puro True Scottish Pirate Metal. Il loro genere musicale è un misto di Power Metal, contaminato da influenze Folk scozzesi, in grado di ridare vita ad un genere (il power metal) da diverso tempo fermo su binari morti. Canzoni come "The huntmaster"  & "Captain Morgan's Revenge" sono pura energia da scaricare con un bel Headbanging (sfido chiunque a resistere alla tentazione ) :D Purtroppo nulla è perfetto e il grande difetto di questo 1° lavoro degli Alestorm, risiede nell'incredibile somiglianza  tra le 10 tracce che compongono l'album, difetto da non considerare, se amate alla follia il power metal. Compratevi il cd !

All of the tickets packages (I guess they mean "packages" for ticket for all of the days) is now sold out. The managers says that there still chance of getting single tickets for the Friday(the Provinssirock shop maybe? hint, hint). This year Provinssirock is celebrating it's 30 years of concerts with world famous bands and artists like Linkin Park, Foo Fighters and Serj Tankian.

The festival have establish themself as the official opening for the summer festival season in Finland.

Lise Stang Lund stiller denne måneden ut i Galleri RAM. Hun er utdannet ved Kunsthøyskolen i Oslo, gikk opprinnelig keramikklinjen, men har siden jobbet med glass og lysvirkninger. I tillegg er hun leder for Norske Kunsthåndverkere, og holder IT-kurs for kunstnere, bl.a. i webdesign.

Dette er kanskje utstillingens mest vellykkede objekt, kalt Fisheye. Her brytes lyset på en måte som skaper inntrykk av farge, eller også er det farge i prismene, og mønsteret minner om geometriske sekstitallsmønstre.

Jeg tenker på flaskebunner når jeg ser disse sirklene. Selv kaller Lise dem dråper, noe som er lettere å se i glassplata som henger fra taket midt i rommet, fordi «boblene» der har asymmetrisk form (øverste bilde). De øvrige objektene nærmer seg design i så stor grad at jeg ser dem for meg i et kontorlandskap. De kunne vært lamper, funksjonelle belysningsobjekter.

Lise er en perfeksjonist som kan sette hele familien i sving med pussefille rett før åpning, for å fjerne de siste fingeravtrykkene. Fotografiene er like utsøkte, gå gjerne til hjemmesiden og se hvordan hun selv presenterer objektene. Hos meg får du som vanlig kun smakebiter, snapshots.

Så da smeller jeg like godt til og blir personlig. Her ser du beviset på at hjem og familie ikke var eneste samtaletema på vernissagen. Lise, i svart kjole til høyre på bildet, viser en rødhåret venninne rundt på utstillingen. Kunst må jo være rocka når den best beskrives gjennom headbanging!

Galleri RAM er et ikke-kommersielt galleri med fokus på kunsthånd­verk og design. Tanken er å være sjangeroverskridende overfor «ren» kunst, noe mange kunsthåndverkere er opptatt av. Problemet er at det kunstneriske i kunsten kan bli vanskelig å få øye på. Med et uttrykk så nært opp til kommersiell design, hvordan rettferdiggjøre langsom produksjon og høye priser? Eller som min venn journalisten sa ved en annen anledning: Greit med konseptkunst. Men hvorfor holde konseptet hemmelig?

Men Lise holder ikke noe hemmelig. Hun forteller om tanker og håndverk, samarbeidet med Magnor glassverk, kampen mot ørsmå bobler i glasset, nærmest usynlige for andre enn henne selv, og en tilskuer som sa: det ser ut som det er laget av en maskin, noe som ikke gjorde henne fornærmet, men overlykkelig, fordi det viste at hun nærmet seg teknisk perfeksjon.

Anekdoten gjør meg modig, og jeg spør hva hun synes om halvfabrikata og industrigjenstander i samtidskunsten. På denne utstillingen er hvert eneste glassprisme håndlaget: en nøyaktig mengde oppvarmet glass klippes av, dryppes på en flate og får renne utover i sirkel, så blir den varmet opp igjen for å fjerne klippearr og andre skarpe kanter, og etter at dråpen har kjølnet blir den festet til ei glassplate med et helt spesielt transparent lim, som verken synes eller påvirker lysbrytningen.

Like før har jeg hørt henne snakke med en fetter, som stilte usjenerte spørsmål på den måten familie kan gjøre. Han sa: Når jeg ser på disse rundingene dine – altså, for meg ser de helt like ut. Og jeg mener, helt like. Så hva er vitsen? Men Lise bare lo og forklarte at likheten er ønsket, det er fine nyanser hun vil oppnå, ikke det åpenbare eller spektakulære.

Men dermed blir spørsmålet: Hvorfor ikke heller kjøpe helt like, fabrikklagde prismer, istedenfor å lage dem selv? Jeg venter meg et ideologisk svar, om at kunst skal lages fra bunnen, men nei, Lise har ingen motforestillinger, hvis prismene fantes, i nøyaktig den utførelsen hun ønsket, da kunne hun like gjerne kjøpt dem ferdige. Men det gjør de altså ikke, og da velger hun å lage dem selv, for å nærme seg mest mulig sin egen visjon.

At det finnes et tanker bak denne kunsten er altså klart. Og likevel. Er det ikke et problem når nyansene blir så subtile at de knapt kan skjelnes uten årelang trening, eller med nesa lenger en 10 cm unna? Eller når de mest interessante virkningene av overflate og lys oppnås fra baksiden eller sidelengs mot glasset, et perspektiv de færreste kommer på å ta?

El headbanging es un tipo de danza que involucra la sacudida violenta de la cabeza al ritmo de la música, por lo general en la música metal es uno de los principales y mas usados en general. Es visualmente más efectivo cuando el headbanger tiene el cabello largo. Así mismo el término "headbanger" fue inventado por Led Zeppelin en su primer tour por Estados unidos en 1968. En el transcurso de un show en Boston, la audiencia que se encontraba en la primera fila sacudía sus cabezas al ritmo de la música.

Existen varios estilos de headbanging, entre los cuales están:

• Arriba y abajo: El estilo más común, que involucra el movimiento de cabeza hacia arriba y hacia abajo.
• Oscilación circular o (molino de viento): oscilando la cabeza en un movimiento circular. Este estilo es mejor conocido como el Molino de viento o Helicóptero. En el death metal, muchas bandas suelen utilizar este tipo de headbanging.
• Drunk estilo: una forma de golpear en la cabeza al azar direcciones, como si la persona está borracho. Este estilo es usado a menudo por Sid Wilson de Slipknot
• El latigazo: una forma especialmente violenta de la tradicional "hacia arriba y hacia abajo" estilo, que se caracteriza por el pelo de la headbanger desplazarse tan rápidamente que oculta su rostro. Este estilo ha sido utilizado por Mick Thomson de Slipknot y el ex-bajista de Metallica Cliff Burton.

18 Wheels of Justice seriously causes me brain damage and neck injuries every time I see them. Their set is always absolutely relentless and this one was no different. I am sitting at a flea market this afternoon humming "off we go into battle" That song should be in a video game or in a movie. It is an aggressive war-cry masterpiece. It never gets old and it is permanently stuck in my head. They remind me of one of my favorite metal albums -Ride the lightning - Metallica but 18 Wheels are faster, better and with current musical influences.

Hollow Image was tight and better than I have ever heard them before. I love Josh's aggression and head banging. Lauren was slamming behind her kit in a mass of black flailing hair and ripping elbows. I think Hollow tends to get grouped in with some odd bands but were an awesome fit for BRUTALFEST. Fast head banging, body shaking metal. I personally am always going to support a girl in a metal band actually playing an instrument not "singing". Much respect to Lauren always. True Metal.

Liquid Violence was sick and fun and got the crowd screaming and got Jake on stage. I forgot my camera so I can not wait to see pix. If anyones got em let me know so I can post them here. I will give ya credit. Liquid brings the road experience perfection one rarely finds in a band. A band so tight and together they are in complete sync. They bring the energy of the entire room and crowd right up front...regardless if there are people talking in the back instead of paying attention. They demand your attention and they deserve it. True metal road-warriors. We salute you. |M|

Kultur is the type of music that I can not even describe accurately. I get so lost in their set usually I can not even remember where I am. My knees get all wobbly, my neck is throbbing, all I see is hair and lights and I fade into pure metal bliss. All I can say is if you like their music or even remotely like their cd. See them live. It is a live experience of metal that will never disappoint. I went to a show saw Kultur and for the next year I am pretty sure we went to every single Kultur show in the area. (except one which was cuz jake messed up directions ... I was so pissed) They are always brutal, always thrashin, always slammin, always true MASSMETAL.

Last but not least Wretched Asylum. I have seen them in their band space and drank till I puked and had such a good time. I like them but never loved them. Since last night though I have changed. Wretched impressed me more than I have been impressed with a band in a long time. I usually do not go for theatrical, theme bands. I never liked Marilyn Manson or Alice Cooper, I do like Slipknot though. But I realized why I like Wretched Asylum when I do not like that theatrical stuff. Wretched writes good ass music. My head was banging harder than it had been all night before or after. The crowd got into them after hearing one or two and they did not relent or disappoint. I love the blood and gore and messy scariness. It adds DOOM to the show and they write some doomy doom music. A complete live metal experience. The whole crowd after their set was standing in stunned silence. We all walked away saying damn Wretched was sooo good tonight. Jake still has blood in his hair. |M|
