I've missed the last couple of years, much to my distress at the time, but this year I switched over just in time to see the UK take the stage and bore the arse off the viewing public with some instantly forgettable disco number. Brilliant. When Terry Wogan announced that our singer, Whatshisname McThingy, had done an amazing job, I couldn't wait for Tels to be totally confounded when we went home with nil points again.

Which of course he was. We managed to avoid the horror of scoring nothing, but we still did shockingly, coming right at the bottom, and as always Wogan decided to spout on about political voting throughout the whole thing, as if certain countries really do vote for one another to make some sort of statement. I was writing my dissertation the first year we scored nothing (for a momumentally cack performance from the ones that sang out of tune, Blondetits and Wankface. You remember them, right? It was 2003, I think). Anyway, after that debacle certain people couldn't wait to blame it on Labour. Our culture had gone to the dogs under Blair, crowed a Tory politician! Like Eurovision has ever been anything other than shite where we're concerned.

When it comes to certain countries voting for one another, the so-called political voting - I have another theory. It's really fucking out there, but bear with me, okay? Here it comes:

Other countries take the competition seriously.

Let me explain. We've been doing this for donkey's years; since 1957, in fact. We've won a bunch of times and we always get our entries in, even if they sucked, thanks to the big fat cheque we pay the heads of Eurovision every year. However, a lot of countries are new to this song contest lark. In the last five years alone no fewer than thirteen new nations have started taking part. And you know why they want in in the first place? Because they actually care about being in it, and they care about winning. We don't. We couldn't give a fuck, truth be told. We don't want to be beaten by Moldova or somesuch, but we don't really care that much otherwise.

So imagine that all the ex-Soviet and Balkan countries care about the contest. They take several steps to ensure they do well:

1. Fame. They know it.
They pick someone well-known to represent them. Russia's winning entrant this year, Dima Bilan, came second in the 2006 contest, and he's a bloody great big star in his homeland. This guy is one of Russia's biggest selling acts. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that if he's big in Russia, he's going to be somewhat of a name in places like Ukraine, Georgia, Belarus, Armenia et al. In short, check out his bloody big ready-made walloping gallumpha of a fanbase. Those people already love him. Those people will vote for him, even if his song is a turd. He even roped in Evgeni Plushenko, a world champion skater, to slide around him on Saturday night, and some dead popular violinist. In contrast, we have Splatty Thingyjim and his backing band of nobodies. Who gives a shit about Splatty Thingyjim? No-one, except maybe his mum. Who's going to vote for him, besides his mum? No-one. Because no-one knows (or cares to find out) who Splatty Thinyjim is. Which leads us onto...

2. Promotion. They use it.
This is a simple one. If you want people to vote for your song, it needs to have stuck in their heads. Our entry failed because it was instantly forgettable. Then again, I can't remember the Russian one either. However, I'm willing to bet hard cash that Dima Bilan promoted his arse off in the run up to the competition. That song would have been on radio and television all over eastern Europe. Why? Because they take it seriously. We, on the other hand, employ some X-Factor reject and poke them onstage at the last minute before throwing a cheery thumbs-up their way and running away giggling.

3. Music. They like it.
Terry Wogan, eh? What a funny chap. 'Oh ho!' he crows, 'This is going to be rubbish!' over every single slightly ethnic sounding track. I'm quite happy to giggle at the utter rubbish some countries send into the contest - Spain excelled themselves this year with new levels of bonkers arsewankery - but on occasion his commentary borders on xenophobia.

Take the half-time entertainment this year, for instance, provided by the amazing Goran Bregovic. If you love a little eastern European brass madness, go buy some of this guy's records. I had no idea he was due to appear, but I was delighted when I heard his name. It was such a brilliant addition, and such a surprise - one comment on YouTube phrased it perfectly: "I didn't expect to see him there at all. Brega playing in Eurovision is like Stanley Kubrick showing up at your high school's amateur film festival". I may well have clapped my hands in delight. Wogan sneered at it all, of course, but I expected him to shut up after a few seconds. He didn't. He talked over almost the entire thing, and even when he wasn't sniping, he had the sound turned down, so we couldn't hear the music either way. I was so frustrated and angry I wanted to cry.

Thanks to the wonders of YouTube, I've been able to watch Bregovic and his band back at my leisure, and it was bloody worth it, I tell you - check it out for yourself:

The point is, what the fuck does Terry Wogan know about music from this area of the world? Nothing whatsoever, if he chose to talk over Bregovic. And really, most of us won't be familiar with the trends of the music industry in every country in the world, unless we're a bone-fide expert (or, probably, Stephen Fry). So he can talk over the entries all he likes, but I'm going to go out on yet another limb and guess that many of the entries are styles of music very popular with people from that part of the world. They like it. They vote for it. They're less keen on limp and self-consciously camp disco from the UK. They don't vote for it. It's a simple system, and has fuck all to do with politics.

If you combine all of these elements, you're onto a winner. Sorry Terry, it's got nothing to do with Iraq. We're just shit at this.

As a side note, my favourite entry was the ridiculous song from Bosnia & Herzegovina. The version on the night was much weirder - no chicken, but a washing line and loads of brides - but this one still delights me. I found myself genuinely liking the song, and it's the perfect example of why I like Eurovision so much. Who knows what utter weirdness is going to make it onto your iPod?

Rusia ocupă locul întâi la Eurovision 2008, urmată de Ucraina şi Grecia. România nu reuşeşte să se califice din prima la finala 2009, clasându-se pe locul 20.

Cea de-a 53-a ediţie a EUROVISION a avut loc în acest an în capitala Serbiei, Belgrad. 25 de solişti şi trupe şi-au dat concursul într-un show de excepţie. Primii care au intrat pe scenă au fost reprezentanţii României, Nico şi Vlad Miriţă, cu piesa „Pe o margine de lume”.

Melodia a fost îndelung mediatizată în România pe motiv că ar fi fost o copie fidelă a uneia din repertoriul spaniol „Magia del corazon”, a lui David Bustamante.

La scurt timp după ce membri Uniunii Compozitorilor şi Muzicologilor din România s-au întâlnit pentru a stabili verdictul pentru acest cântec, unul favorabil de altfel, Nico şi Vlad au pornit spre ceea ce avea să fie Eurovision 2008. Cu toate că norocul le-a fost aproape până în ultima clipă, punctajul obţinut de ei a fost cel mai mic primit de România în ultimii 10 ani.

Publicul decide: Rusia câştigătoare a Eurovision 2008
Cei aflaţi în faţa televizoarelor şi-au putut susţine favoriţii timp de 15 minute, trimiţând un sms cu numărul de intrare în scenă al acestora. În urma voturilor s-au desemnat câştigătorii. Dezamăgire mare pentru noi, bucurie pentru alţii... Ţara noastra s-a clasat pe locul 20, cu 45 de puncte. Punctaj maxim (12 puncte) ne-au acordat doar Republica Moldova şi Spania. Trofeul EUROVISION 2008 a revenit anul acesta lui Dima Bilan, reprezentantul Rusiei, cu piesa „Believe in", ce a obţinut 272 de puncte.

De notat este faptul că Bilan se află pentru a doua oară la Eurovision, prima sa apariţie fiind în 2006,  cu piesa „Never let you go”, aducând Rusiei un frumos loc 2.

Conform regulilor Eurovision, câştigătorul aduce în ţara sa următorul concurs. Astfel, Moscova va fi gazda Eurovision 2009.

Următoarele două locuri le-au ocupat frumoasele reprezentante ale Ucrainei si Greciei:

Invitatul special al serii a fost Goran Bregovic, acompaniat de Orchestra de Nunţi şi Înmormântări, ce a susţinut un concert excepţional. Vă reamintesc faptul că pe 23 februarie, Goran Bregovic a cântat la Bucureşti, în cadrul finalei Eurovision 2008 România.

România la Eurovision – scurt istoric
România a participat prima dată la Eurovision în 1993, cu piesa "Nu pleca" interpretată de Dida Dragan. Reamintindu-ne şi de ceilalţi: Dan Bittman – „Dincolo de nori” (1994), Monica Anghel cu Sincron - „Rugă pentru pacea lumii”(1996), Mălina Olinescu - „Eu cred” (1998), Taxi - „Luna” (2000), Monica Anghel şi Marcel Pavel - „Tell me why” (2002), Nicoleta Alexandru - „Don’t break my heart” (2003), Sanda Ladoşi - „I admit” (2004), Luminiţa Anghel şi Sistem – „Let me try” (2005), Mihai Tr[istariu – „Tornero” (2006) şi Tocomondo – „Baby, I love you” (2007), nu pot să nu remarc faptul că dintre toţi cei care ne-au reprezentat, prestaţia Luminiţei Anghel şi a trupei Sistem
a fost cea mai apreciată, motiv pentru care în 2005 s-au clasat pe locul al treilea, dupa Grecia si Malta.

2, Den bästa låten var (även om jag såg den sporadiskt och i bakgrunden) Frankrikes, den skulle ha vunnit enligt mig. (Jag är fortfarande övertygad nu på morgonen när reprisen står på i bakgrunden)

3, Det absolut bästa i hela showen var utan tvekan Goran Bregovic som framförde sina masterpieces i pausunderhållningen. Goran Bregovic är bäst!

Ayer presencié una escena paradisíaca, pero no del paraíso de Victor Sueiro, con angelitos y nubes de algodón, sino el cielo de verdad. Estuve en el concierto de Goran Bregovic.

A modo de pequeña introducción, les cuento que el músico en cuestión, es un yugoslavo, nacido en Sarajevo, que irrumpió en escena hará cosa de 10 años atrás, cuando comenzó a hacer la música de las películas del sublime director cinematográfico Emir Kusturica. ("Tiempo de Gitanos", "Underground", "Gato negro, gato blanco".

Más tarde Goran se hartó de que todos se acordaran de él en relación al cineasta, se abrió camino al andar solito, y le fue de puta madre al tipo.

La que relata llegó con la lengua afuera al Palacio de Congresos de Madrid, una hora antes de que empiece el concierto, previo extenso viaje en bus, metro y taxi, y consiguió 6 entradas para 5 argentinos y una gallega amiga. Así que nos conglomeramos los 6 protagonistas de este evento en la puerta, donde encontrarnos fue un pelín complicado, porque dos millones de tipos habían quedado encontrarse en la puerta del recinto.

Entramos exhaustos con la ilusión sudaca de que pasase alguno vendiendo chori, panchos o aunque mas no sea un cocacolero, pero no ocurrió.

Al rato el escenario se pobló de gente: 39 músicos en total, de los cuales: 12 pertenecían a violinistas polacos, 15 al coro masculino de Belgrado, 3 minitas eran las voces búlgaras del coro de Sofía, 7 trompetas (dentro de las cuales habría alguna tuba porque era más grande, que pertenecían a la Banda para Bodas y Funerales gitanos. Estos últimos, los mejores !!!!! Y los otros dos: Goran el master, y otro que llamaremos el pelado, por desconocer su nombre. Goran y el pelado cantaban y tocaban pandereta, guitarra, bajo, acordeón (igual que los refugiados de Kosovo), mini batería (a cargo del pelado pero sonaba como maxi batería) y un pequeño sintetizador. Háganse una idea de lo que puede representar todo esto a la vez!

Los tipos tocaron 2 horas y media y lograron lo imposible: que los insípidos europeos levanten los culos de sus asientos (que al principio pensé que estaban pegados con poxipol) y bailen a morir! Claro está que la sangre sudaca siempre en contra de la corriente, bailaba en las pasarelas del recinto, hacía el intento de cantar en búlgaro, croata o lo que carajo fuera, y revoleaba pañuelos cual ponchos de la Sole. Pero el resto de la gente estaba un poco acojonada, porque los guardias de seguridad cazaban del brazo a cualquiera que se desbordaba un poquito nomás.

Y que les voy a contar, que el tipo es un grande de verdad, humilde como pocos. Que nuestras vidas serán antes y después del concierto de Goran. Que uno de los argentinos presentes, el Chicho, músico mendocino, dijo que después de haber visto el recital, más vale se iba a dedicar a otra cosa, porque la música no era para él, y que quizás se ponga una tintorería.

Ahora si compañeros, me puedo morir tranquila. Ya he visto la cara de Dios... y es yugoslavo.

• Ain't Got No Home - Clarence Frogman Henry
  The first time I left the States under my own auspices, I was participating in the Edinburgh Festival, as were a couple dozen other people I knew from college. The stuff I was in was pretty dreck-y, but my boyfriend, "Nate", had a cool gig playing in the back up band for a late-night improv show in an old church. I'd sneak in there to hear them after I was done for the night. A couple of years ago, Nate got wind of No Touch Monkey and wrote to say that maybe I was giving him a shorter end of the stick than he deserved, so I'm glad to get a chance to give the guy his musical due, at least. Without the early influence of his record collection, I'd probably still be listening to nothing but Joni Mitchell and Holly Near.
• The Oscar Meyer Weiner Song
  I'm a total tortoise and I came late to Walkman ownership, which made for a very boring, somewhat psychotic ascent of Kilimanjaro. With nothing but the gorgeous scenery to distract me after my fleeter-footed companions booked for the next hut, I trudged alone for hours, unable to override this damn hot dog ditty of my childhood that was stuck on endless replay in the tape loop of my mind.
• Big Boned Gal - kd lang and the Reclines
  Nate's successor,"Isaac" and I bought a couple of cassettes on Bankgok's Khao San Road before heading off to meet up with a Peace Corps volunteers named Elfy, who as memory serves was the only Thai-based member in the Servas homestay directory. The bus let us off at a dusty crossroads where we immediately attracted the attention of a bunch of school children, and their teacher, who explained that Elfy had gone home two months earlier. We ended up spending the night with her and her daughter, and half the village came by to say hello. Our common language was exhausted pretty quickly, but fortunately there was a guy with a guitar, and we sat around singing Michael, Row the Boat Ashore for hours. Like, I thought we would never stop. It was fun, but it showed signs of descending into its own particular Sartrean hell. In desperation, we popped my recently purchased bootleg of Absolute Torch and Twang into our hostess's boom box and she liked it so much that we couldn't not make a present of it. I like to fantasize that someday, some other bumbling young couple will blunder across her crossroads and wind up spending the night, and the guy with the guitar will show up and they'll sit around singing Big Boned Gal until 2 or 3 in the morning.
• These Foolish Things - Roxy Music
  By the time we got to Bali, Isaac and I were ready to tear each other's heads off and probably would have if he hadn't been stricken with a majorly debilitating case of the green mango quick step. With him incapacitated, I was free to do as I liked, without threat of his near-constant criticism. It was delightful, particularly in the post-sightseeing downtime, when I was free to lounge in the big bamboo chair on our patch of our Ubud guest house's common veranda, perversely enjoying Roxy Music's over the top cover of one of the world's great Now-That-It's-Over-I-Can-Romanticize-It songs.
• Kang Mandor - Ujang Suryana
  Same town, same guest house, different year, different gentleman. This one did not have intestinal distress (yet), so I had to grab my Me Time when I could. I had noticed this beautiful little pavilion set up in the rice paddies near the Monkey Forest, and while he was off doing something manly, I pulled up a pillow to order some tea, despite wild feelings of guilt when I discovered that said tea would cost nearly double what it cost to feed both me and my absent partner breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They were piping in the sort of discreet, local music that makes me want to put on an orange sari and meditate amongst the frangipani, or more pragmatically, tiptoe around giving someone a very expensive massage. They also had a shitload of bamboo wind chimes strung up under the eaves, which clunked together in the gentle breeze, greatly enhancing the atmosphere of harmony and spiritual cleanliness. In my lust to get my money's worth and possibly recreate the experience when I got home, I asked my waiter if he could tell me what the music was, and then bought a cassette of it on the way back to the guesthouse. Imagine my surprise when years later, what I had come to think of as the Main Theme from the Peaceful, Outdoor Place Where I Had the Expensive Tea turned up on a Putumayo collection!
• Incident on 57th Street - Bruce Springsteen
  This was the first time I ever saw kiteboarders. We were driving down from some redwoods near Big Sur, or San Simeon, or Santa Cruz or some such, and we went up a little hill and then the windshield filled with this magnificent ocean view and above it, all these brightly colored human kite-people riding surfboards around the fucking sky!!! It's hard to describe the wonder of that moment, cresting that hill with Bruce started howling, "Sa-andy, the moon is rising be-hi-ind us", but even the kids in the back seat felt it and shut up.
• Dr. Worm - They Might Be Giants
  Same trip, same kids, same bright blue P-T Cruiser (it generated a lot of interest in the parking lots of the crappy chain motels where we stayed). Call it the B-side to Incident on 57th Street, this one made all four of us roll down the windows to bellow along at the top of our lungs. It was beyond gratifying that both Thing 1 and Thing 2 knew all the lyrics. (They've since forgotten them.) I love it music suckers me into thinking that life is a movie and we are its stars.
• Twiggy, Twiggy (Twiggy vs. James Bond) - Pizzacato Five
  Speaking of soundtracks... The first time Greg and I were simultaneously separated from the kids was when the Japanese producers of Urinetown flew the great playwright (and his wife) to Tokyo. It was grand, although midway through our second day, Greg in a fit of jet lag exacerbated parental angst suggested I return home early to resume my maternal duties. Instead I stayed the whole, glorious time, and while I never quite figured out how to work our new digital camera, I did manage to bang out a little cyber-slideshow of our adventures, which is forever wed to this song.
• Filipino Box Spring Hog - Tom Waits
  The book tour for Dirty Sugar Cookies took me to Austin, Texas for the first time, and fortune smiled, steering me toward the Austin Motel. After reading to a small-ish crowd at Bookwoman, and downing several buckets of beer with all my new friends, I found myself staggering down South Congress in my very-non-cowboy-bootish platform Mary Janes, in search of something to eat. Even though the sun had set hours earlier, it was still five million degrees outside, and I could swear I heard Tom Waits coming out of this place across the street, but how could that be? I mean, I know Austin's all about the music, but this place, The Continental Club, looked relatively small, and it was a Monday night...Just in case, I tramped several jillion miles to the next stop light, crossed and doubled back on the other side of the road, because I was too chicken to risk crossing in the middle . (I swear on a stack of Gideons, Congress Avenue is as wide as your average New York City block is long.) My Mary Janes had given me stigmata by the time I got there, but it was worth it, because it wasn't Tom Waits, it was a Tom Waits cover band called The Box Spring Hogs. I got me a watered-down margarita, and found me a spot on the edge of the dance floor and that is why Austin, Texas is my new boyfriend.
• Hop, Hop, Hop - Goran Bregovic
  The iPod converter thingie I'd bought in New York didn't wasn't compatible with the Hungarian rental car we'd leased for a month-long drive through the Western Balkans. There was a CD player, but convinced that the iPod would be sufficient to our musical needs, the only CD we'd brought along was an audio book of Harry Potter someone stowed away in my luggage without my knowledge. Three solid weeks of Jim Dale's infernal Sorting Hat song and I was about to snap. Luckily, Greg found a cache of Goran Bregovic in a Novi Sad record shop, and over the children's objections, the Big Monkeys wrested the CD player from Harry's magical clutches. This is one of the greatest songs ever written, and not just because there's not a wizard in it! A tree fell across the road right in front of us and we just laughed and hit replay! I propped my feet up on the dashboard, and waving my arms around in a witchy way, blithely ignoring the complaints of the feral young. Fantastico.
• Billy Liar - The Decembrists
  Now this is my kind of mountain climbing! Breathtaking scenery, a couple of hours to the top, no kids, and a fully functional iPod. I don't even like the Decembrists all that much, but the daughter of the woman who owned the house we were staying in in Juneau had their latest CD, and I figured I'd better load it onto my laptop, in case I do wind up liking them someday. Then I recalled that my good friend, Karen had given me a copy of Her Majesty that I never really listened to, so I started listening to that as I hiked the Perseverance Trail, thinking pleasantly of my good, old friend, feeling very fit and athletic, only mildly afraid of bears.

Notas: Reconozco que subestimé a esta banda. Los incluí en el Mixtape de Marzo-2008, con un tema ("Toothpaste Kisses") bueno pero demasiado pop y, por tanto, poco representativo de este disco. Sigo pensando que se parecen más que nada a We Are Scientists (gran banda, ver más abajo que hoy los incluyo) pero hoy también los emparento con cuestiones más diversas como Libertines, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, Editors o Interpol. También está Dave Mathews Band en "Toothpaste Kisses", pero es injusto, o parcial. Favor de escucharse varias veces si es necesario: creo que tenemos una muy buena banda con nosotros. Una trascendente, incluso. Veremos cómo siguen. Y perdón por no haberme dado cuenta antes.

Se parece a: Goran Bregovic, David Bowie, Arcade Fire, Belle&Sebastian, Shack, Devendra Banhart y cientos más.
Notas: Muy de vez en cuando se producen discos tan originales como admirables. Extraños pero al mismo tiempo familiares, con el balance justo para que nos guste en una primera escuchada pero aún así necesitemos unas cuantas más para entenderlos, y con eso, disfrutarlos mucho más. Claro que digo esto porque eso es "A Mad and Faithful Telling": una gran borrachera (pero muy lúcida) que podrían compartir Goran Bregovic, los Arcade Fire y un primo de David Bowie en la voz, tocando juntos hasta el amanecer, admirando cada cual la virtud del otro, pero más importante, pasando un buen momento. En algún tema se acercan los Belle & Sebastian (track 2, "Along the Way", que me hace acordar a "Wandering Alone" de los B&S), y luego llega David Byrne (track 6) y Devendra Banhart y así la lista sigue, y es por eso que digo que es un disco "World Music", aunque mas bien debería decir que es uno "Larger than life". Realmente vale la pena.

Notas: "With Love and Squalor" me parece un gran disco. Puro rock pero potente, directo, o mejor aún: sincero. Nada parece forzado para lograr un hit en la radio, si bien son -casi todos- temas pegadizos, sencillos y de estribillos concisos y recurrentes. Desde All Music Guide pueden definirlo mucho mejor que yo, así que cito y traduzco: "Seguramente los fanáticos de Bloc Party, Killers, The Rapture y Franz Ferdinand van a sentirse atraídos a este set de 12 canciones llamativas; sin embargo, We Are Scientists ofrece un elemento que ningún otro de ellos logra: más alma que efectivismo. "With Love and Squalor" es lo suficientemente familiar para los seguidores del rock alternativo comercial, pero también lo suficientemente escurridizo para los admiradores del rock independiente que idolatran a The Smiths." Y es bastante cierto... aunque sólo para este disco. El LP siguiente de WAS, llamado "Brain Thrust Mistery", pareciera caer en el mismo error en el que cayeron los Libertines, los Electric Soft Parade o los Art Brut: copiarse a ellos mismos, perdiendo toda la honestidad que los hacía grandes. Pero bueno, "With Love and Squalor" sí que es un gran, increíble disco... del resto no me hago responsable.

TEMA RETRO #1 > The Stranglers / Golden Brown (1981)

Notas: Este tema, un clásico creo, del disco de los Stranglers "La Folie" (otro clásico), denota la diversidad que se vivía en el principio de los 80s. Buscando la historia de este tema, me encuentro con esto (en inglés): AMG. Básicamente lo que dice la nota, entiendo, es que el mismo tipo que lo compuso o al menos le dio vida al tema, Hugh Cornwell (guitarrista de The Stranglers), no supo tocarlo hasta... 19 años después! Parece increíble, aunque me da esperanzas en mi carrera como compositor. Fuera de eso, el tema es realmente genial y pionero, y no logro entender que se haya hecho en 1981. Como tampoco entiendo que el disco sea de 1981.

TEMA RETRO #2 > Spandau Ballet / To Cut a Long Story Short (12'' Mix) (1980/1981)

Notas: Spandau Ballet es una de esas bandas que, con todas sus desventajas, hicieron o influenciaron al post Glam Rock. Si es que eso dice algo. Yo creo que no dice nada, así que mejor digamos: mucho sintetizador y batería electrónica (eran los 80s, después de todo), pero con ideas lo suficentemente oscuras e interesantes como para sobrevivir en el tiempo. Hay contradicciones sobre el año en que fue publicado este tema (la internet dice 1981, mi CD en casa dice 1980) pero no es tan importante, después de todo: he aquí algo (junto con otros temas como Musclebond, The Freeze, o Chant No. 1) que hicieron historia. Y con razón.

Goran Bregovic. El gran músico de los Balcanes nos da una brillante muestra de su sonido gitano en dos conciertos memorables. Teatro de ls Ciudad, 18 y 19 de Abril, Zócalo (clausura del Festival) 27 de abril.

Enrique Morente. La fusión del gran cantaor Flamenco sonará el 25 de abril en el Teatro de la Ciudad.

The Schubert Project. El pianista Inon Barnatan y su grupo de talentosos musicos rinden homenaje al gran compositor, en el Anfiteatro Simón Bolívar el 24 y 25 y en el Palacio de Bellas Artes el 26 de abril.

La la Human Steps. Edouard Lock llega con Amjad para ofrecer una propuesta vibrante y diferente que cambiará neustra percepción de la danza, en el Palacio de Bellas Artes, el 16 y 17 de ABRIL

Enfin, erna zijn we nog een kelder in Stare Mesto (de Oude Stad) ingedoken met andere expats. Een paar tequilla's en een nachtelijke wandeling huiswaarts (50 minuten lang, al had de rest verzekerd dat het maar 20 minuten zou zijn) maakt dat het eerder een lazy Saturday zal worden! Tijd om wat voor de blog te schrijven dus, ook al is het hier stralend lenteweer!

Het voorprogramma van Goran Bregovic was echter ook de moeite. Of eerder de voorprogramma's. Het begon met een flauwe break dance sessie van de local bro's. Als side-information, Bratislava is volleeedig in de hip-hop mood van de baseballpetjes en de geruite jekkers. In de banlieues van Bratislava (zoals daar zijn Karlova Ves en Petrzalka) is er een sterke hip hop cultuur aanwezig. Een beetje zoals in Brussel, waarmen het heeft over de bende van 121030 (does-dies-traunte) spreekt men hier over de bende van 84104. De hiphop is underground, bovendien meerendeels would-be , maar toch (!) hebben sommige groepen ... euh intrensieke kwaliteiten! Zoals onderstaand filmpje bewijst:

Alas, de groep werd afgewisseld door de volksdansgroepjes (er werd duchtig op de leren botjes getippeld en geklopt). Het laatste voorprogramma was echt wel indrukwekkend: een vuurshow. Stukken beter en stukken professioneler dan wat men doet met kegels in het stadspark van Leuven! Wanneer boekt iemand deze mensen om uw bbq op te luisteren (Bart/Michael: om uw bbq-stel binnen 2 uur in de fik te krijgen)?? Neen, deze groep was echt wel de top:

Dall'ascolto dei Frank Head a Sanremo di quest'anno ho scoperto il genere Gipsy Punk. E' un misto fra musica folk balcanica, di cui Goran Bregovic ne è il massimo esponente e il punk con le sue chitarre elettriche. Nasce quindi un genere trascinante, ballabile, coinvolgente. Dal punto di vista strumentale è un insieme completo di una varietà ben composta di strumenti. I Gogol Bordello (in foto) sono probabilmente i maggiori rappresentanti di questo genere. Ve ne lascio un assaggio...
