Canon has out done itself yet again, this time with the Vixia HF10. Canon's consumer HD camcorder is a sleek black, has a 12X optical zoom (more than the average consumer camcorder), and has a 16GB flash drive built-in. With great video quality and the ability to shoot 'Cinema' style movies, this camcorder is definitely worth it. The HF10 also has an SD card slot (accepts standard or SDHC cards), if you want even more storage space. The image quality is really spectacular, as with all Canon devices, but the autofocus isn't as fast as it could be. Other than that slight nitpick, the device is overall really great. It's sleek, small, and has superb image quality. So, if you're in the market for a great HD camcorder, the Vixia HF10 is what your looking for. It retails for around $1,050, but Amazon has it at just $850.

Two steps forward, one step backward today in the cardiac ICU with Mom. Pneumonia threat has backed

Two steps forward, one step backward today in the cardiac ICU with Mom. Pneumonia threat has backed off - whew! That's the scary one... And the intestinal problems have been managed more effectively, making her more comfortable. But the newest issue is a slight heart arrhythmia - common a few days after heart surgery.

An annoyance today regarding her IV's. She had plugs and tubes coming from her neck, arms, and hands - and they began to get dicked up*. Morning Nurse recommended a pericutaneous intravenous catheter to manage ports better - and it would also make Mom more comfortable.

In the meantime, the damn IV pumps would become "obstructed", and alarms would sound. Around lunchtime, Mom had been up all morning and was exhausted. The IV pump alarms had kept her awake the night before, too. She was trying to sleep, but the damn alarms kept waking her up. The nurse would come in, play with the lines, then hit the "reset" button on the pump. Alarm off for five minutes. Alarm on again, waking her up. Repeat for about 30 minutes...

Finally, since the nurse had explained that it was just the saline line becoming "dicked up", i started hitting the reset button myself. At least until Nurse Ratchet** caught me - and recommended that i stop playing with the equipment. i apologized, of course, promising not to do it again - but continued to sneak over and hit the reset until Mom's nurse returned from lunch and just shut the damn thing off...

It's during the family medical situations that i regret not going into the medical field. Unfortunately, i'm insanely squeamish about the gooey-sciences, and have a tendency to pass out at the sight of puncture wounds.

But give me electronics and gadgets? Hoo-AHH!

________

* It's a medical term. When i hang around hospitals long enough, i pick up the lingo... i'm a veritable sponge for occupational lingo.

** Not Mom's nurse for the morning, so she wasn't used to me and probably thought i was trying to "put her down" to collect the inheritance to pay off gambling debts or something...

Works with All iPods

Guide Rating -

Works with
All iPods

The Good
Clear, precise sound
Noise isolation is impressive
Great fit in ears

The Bad
Bass response is lacking

The Price
US$249.99

NOTE: This review is based on a pre-release version of the earphones.

The Shure SE310 Sound Isolating earphones are touted by the manufacturer as offering levels of sound quality, comfort, and bass response for such small earphones. On two of those counts, they’re right: the SE310s sound great thanks to their terrific noise isolation feature, and feel good, but their bass sound is disappointing.

The SE310 earphones are Shure’s offering for the consumer market and use similar hardware to the company’s E4 model, a professional offering that carries a US$319 list price. It’s clear from the sound quality that these earphones are descended from a professional-grade product. Songs are crisp, clear, and detailed through the earphones and music sounds great.

The quality of the sound is in part achieved through the SE310s’ most compelling feature: noise isolation. Noise isolation dampens sounds surrounding the listener to improve the music experience. While some higher-end earphones offer powered noise-canceling features, the SE310s achieve their noise deadening by snuggly fitting their foam earpieces into the ear canal. By filling the canal, external noises are greatly reduced.

The noise isolation is truly impressive. Playing my iPod at only a medium, comfortable volume, I can’t hear myself typing and a friend had to nearly shout before I could even begin to hear him over the music.

Removing ambient noise from the listening process creates a much better experience of the music, though it does tend to amplify the sound of your own breathing, which can be a little strange at first.

In a nice touch, Shure includes a number of different earphone sleeve shapes to enable the best fit for different ear shapes. This is especially good since the earbuds fill up your whole ear canal and can make your ears feel a bit odd after using them for a long time.

The major downside of the SE310s, though, and what keeps them from being a true knockout is the disappointing bass response.

Though it’s unreasonable to expect a huge, booming base from earphones, it would have been nice to get better bass out of these earphones, especially since Shure touts a better bass sound as a feature of the product. The bass produced by the SE310s is generally a little weak, making songs sound not quite as bold as they would through other audio devices.

The bass sound can be improved by boosting the bass setting in the iPod equalizer, though it’s still not quite as good as I’d like.

Despite that issue, the Shure SE310 Sound Isolating earphones are a terrific way to listen to your iPod. The reduction in ambient noise they provide, when combined with their clear sound, makes them a good choice for quality-conscious listeners.

Nobody likes it when their iPod mini freezes up and stops responding to clicks. When computers freeze up, you know how that to fix that problem — restart them. But since iPods don’t exactly have on/off switches, how do you restart them?

Luckily, resetting a frozen iPod mini is pretty easy. Here’s how you do it (this works for the both the first- and second-generation iPod mini).

Difficulty: EasyTime Required: Less than 1 MinuteHere's How:

NOTE: First make sure that your iPod’s hold button isn’t on. This is the little switch at the top left corner of the iPod mini that you can move to “lock” the iPod’s buttons. If this is on, you’ll see a little orange area at the top of the iPod mini and a lock icon on the iPod’s screen. If you see either of these, move the switch back and see if this fixes the problem.

If the hold switch wasn’t the problem do the following:

Move the hold switch to the on position and then move it back to off.

Hold down the Menu button on the clickwheel and the center button at the same time. Hold these together for 6-10 seconds. This should restart the iPod mini. You’ll know the iPod is restarting when the screen changes and the Apple logo appears.

If this doesn’t work at first, you should repeat the steps.

If this doesn’t work, you should try plugging your iPod into a power source and let it charge. Then repeat the steps.

If this doesn’t work, you may have a bigger problem, and ought to get more help.

iPod Dock Connector - The iPod Dock Connector is the interface used by most iPods to connect to computers and sync data back and forth.

The Dock Connector is a small slot on the bottom of the iPod into which the included iPod cable fits. It is also the interface used by many iPod peripherals, such as docks, car kits, portable speakers, etc.

The Dock Connector was created, in part, to simplify the iPod. Early versions of the iPod, which were only Mac-compatible, used Firewire interfaces. When Windows-compatible iPods were introduced, they had USB interfaces, with Firewire used for battery charging.

When Apple introduced the Dock Connector, it was able to reduce the number of ports on the bottom of the iPod to one and reduce the complexity and potential confusion of using the iPod. The first iPods that used the Dock Connector had both Firewire and USB cables. Later iPods only used USB.

Introduction to iTunes CD Ripping Settings

You can change the kind of files that iTunes creates when you rip CDs and add them to your music library. Every file type has its own strengths and weaknesses – some have higher-quality sound, create smaller files (learn more about how to decide what file type to use).

Yeah As Futuristic as it sounds, Gibson has launched a special edition of their 'Infamous' Les Paul in a special edition called ''Robot Guitar''.

An Thats exactly what it is, the guitar tunes itself to any tuning preference in matter of seconds, just turn the wheel, choose your preferred tuning (you can also Create Presets), Strum the strings and Voila, your guitar just tuned itself.

The Guitar Features a Neck CPU, And Motorized Tuners, Yeah! a CPU!.... i Guess from now on were gonna have to buy guitars depending on their CPU speed, "Hey Jimmy Check out My New 3.2 Ghz Strat".

The only drawback about this work of art is its price, Does the sum $2500 Sound alot to you, It Does to me!, for that sum the guitar better play itself, and make me coffee at the same time.

The Robot Guitar is also available in Les Paul studio and in SG so you can play your AC/DC in tune

Windows Vista o XP (sp2).

For the second time that too! IronMan is Hollywood's latest Summer bonanza offering and can be said to be a precursor of bigger-things-to-come. Coming from the Marvel Comic Universe, IronMan is a self-made superhero i.e. his powers are his own invention. The movie stars Robert Downey Jr. in the title role, with Gwyneth Paltrow as his super-efficient & ultra-professional secretary Pepper Potts, Terence Howard as US Navy Officer Rhody and Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane - IronMan's chief nemesis. Downey plays Tony Stark - billionaire maverick inventor and head of Stark Industries, the chief weapons-supplier to the US Army. On a trip to Afghanistan to demonstrate his new missiles, he's kidnapped by a terrorist organization who order him to build the same missile for them. Instead, he makes for himself an Iron suit fitted with fire-throwers and power-booster boots and using that, makes his escape. While under duress, he realizes that his weapons have done more harm than good to the World, and announces that Stark Industries will no longer make weapons. This pisses off his mentor and Stark Industries' #2 Obadiah Stane who was the person who ordered Tony's kidnapping in the first place. Tony works tirelessly and perfects his IronMan suit which he uses to destroy the Afghanistan Terrorists' tyranny. And when Obadiah reverse-engineers a bigger suit for himself, IronMan takes upon him in an epic showdown and ultimately emerges victorious!

I've seen only one of Robert Downey's previous performance - in Gothika - and he was pretty good in that. In IronMan, he plays the maverick billionaire Tony Stark a.k.a IronMan with downright aplomb-ness and given his streak of bad behaviour, is quite at ease in delivering witty lines and brings about a sort of chauvinism into the role. The nifty suit more than matches his persona and even though he's completely hidden within the suit, it seems totally made-for-him! He earnestly works on perfecting the suit and a few hits n' misses later, he nails it! Gwyneth is completely at ease as the professional assistant and since she's the lone female character and is close to Stark, the romantic undercurrent is hard to miss. And though it doesn't develop further than an awkward near-kiss moment, I'm sure there's more to come. Obadiah Stane is the bad guy and the character is portrayed by Jeff Bridges - whose bald n' bearded look I must say bears an uncanny resemblance to yesteryear Bollywood villain Bob Christo!

Obadiah is the archetypal hungry-for-power villain and here, he's the one who orders Stark's kidnapping out in Afghanistan. He's also involved in supplying Stark Industries' weapons to terrorists on the sly and when Tony decides to stop their weapons manufacturing, he plots a complete takeover. He has already reverse-engineered the suit from Stark's first one and then proceeds to steal the arc reactor that is powering the IronMan (man and suit, both!). Tony still has the older arc reactor with him - thanks to Pepper - and he uses that to power his suit and vanquish Obadiah after an epic struggle (that looks so similar to Megatron Vs. Optimus Prime in Transformers)

IronMan works on most counts - it has some cool visuals, slick action - so what if its max-CGI , a blossoming love story, hi-fi technicality and wizardry, witty liners, spot-on characterization and some pretty neat directing as well. Thankfully, it steers clear or the human drama that other superhero flicks such as Spiderman and Superman have been allowed themselves to be drawn into! It may find the going tough, especially in India, since it lacks a genuinely popular lead-actor and also the fact that IronMan isn't that popular a character. Well, at least not as as popular as the other superheroes!

Moi Rating:

P.S: There was supposedly a Cameo appearance by Nick Fry (another Marvel superhero and a forthcoming Hollywood Movie) after the credits. But the over-enthusiastic theatre staff promptly stopped the screening as soon as the credits started rolling

Maybe you're a spy or you've got schematics for the next hot gadget locked away on your hard drive, but either way you're going to want to lock your files down. That's where the DataLocker Drive Enclosure comes in.

The DataLocker is an enclosure so you'll have to supply your own 2.5" SATA hard drive, which is the standard size drive for laptops. After that, you create a 6-digit passcode that you punch in on the unit's backlit touchscreen. Tap it again to lock that sensitive info down. It's powered and enabled by your USB port. Plug it in, put in your code and access your data. (dvice)

I finally received my DELL Vostro in 7-days flat since ordering it last Friday. I am a true DELL fan and as you would find on earlier posts have read up every book and article on DELL's strategy of Direct sales to consumers/businesses and the Direct model. I admire Michael DELL's guts to take on the established players such as IBM, Lenovo, HP etc. who used to go through distribution channels. All my systems on the last 3 years have been DELL branded - my DELL Inspiron 6000 that I bought from Texas in 2005, my DELL Vostro desktop that I bought in 2007 or my latest acquisition - my DELL Vostro 1200 mini notebook!

With its central profusion of arcade buttons, the Midibox promises satisfaction: this is an electronic musical instrument to be pounded like a 6-button fighter. Built around a PIC microcontroller—a low cost computer chip backed by a vast library of applications—it has 16 knobs, 5 faders, 32 MIDI controlled LED buttons, and 16 arcade buttons.

When is a mousepad not a mousepad? When it is engineered using premium cloth designed for top of the line tracking and enhanced gaming performance where the intricatley woven fibers of the Fibertek(tm) surface enusres precise targeting and tracking without limiting the velocity or acceleration of mousing movements (it says so in it's round pringles like container). Not really new, just wanted to get my hands on one of these Razer mouse pads for quite a while. Paired with a Razer Lachesis mouse, the oversized mousing surface of the Mantis really does help during my WOW sessions. Unfortunaltey, I no longer play in FPS' (except their console counterparts) nor RTS games so i guess I just bought this for precise Internet surfing. Kidding asside, there is a better feel of mouse control but i guess the price of admission wwould be a bit steep and over the top for casual users. At any rate, with contant use (with my elbow hitting the mouse pad edge) I would expect the top layer to probably peel off in a couple of months, hopefully I should be wrong about this. If you can afford it and justify it's existence with your significant other... GO FOR IT.

In what sounds like a really low-budget horror film, voracious swarming ants that apparently arrived in Texas aboard a cargo ship are invading homes and yards across the Houston area, shorting out electrical boxes and messing up computers.

The hairy, reddish-brown creatures are known as "crazy rasberry ants" - crazy, because they wander erratically instead of marching in regimented lines, and "rasberry" after Tom Rasberry, an exterminator who did battle against them early on.

"They're itty-bitty things about the size of fleas, and they're just running everywhere," said Patsy Morphew of Pearland, who is constantly sweeping them off her patio and scooping them out of her pool by the cupful. "There's just thousands and thousands of them. If you've seen a car racing, that's how they are. They're going fast, fast, fast. They're crazy."

The ants - formally known as "paratrenicha species near pubens" - have spread to five Houston-area counties since they were first spotted in Texas in 2002. (link)
