A capa do The Guardian parece alguma coisa 'estamos a procura do artista descolado da vez'.

By the way, até novembro, o vírus Yelle promete se espalhar; inclusive para o lado América do mapa.

Pelo visto, os vírus musicais made in Europe continuam. Os cinco continentes agradecem.

Oddly enough, Lex has nothing to say to open this blog on Alice Cooper. He just sits there listening

Oddly enough, Lex has nothing to say to open this blog on Alice Cooper. He just sits there listening to "Under My Wheels" and shouts, "Now that's rock and roll. That sound is the glory of rock." We salute Alice, born February 4.

I was about to take the Rhino Records Ultimate Rock Quiz at Tower Records. It turned out that the event coincided with the release of Alice Cooper's box set. I was sitting at one of the many tiny desks in a mock classroom, located on the Tower parking lot. Suddenly, I heard my favorite Alice Cooper song cranked to maximum volume.

From the outside PA system, the bustling Sunset Strip in L.A. came to life via the sounds of Alice Cooper's "Public Animal 9" from the '72 classic album, School's Out. Suddenly, a white limo pulls in front of the parking lot's mock classroom. And who should get out of this beautiful automobile but "the Coop" himself. The "class" went absolutely nuts!

Some of us got to shake his hand as he made his way through the class to officially start our rock and roll quiz. I was deeply honored to shake his hand. I even got the chance to tell him that I really dug his music. He said thanks, and headed to the front of the "class." It was cool.

My first memory of Alice Cooper is Welcome To My Nightmare. I remember the album being well stocked at my local record shop. I also remember watching part of the television special, and being really scared by Alice's looks. To me, Alice Cooper meant "scary monster guy in top hat and tux."

He popped up on my radar with a cover of a Beatles song. The movie with which it was associated was a train wreck called Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band starring the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton. The Coop was also in the movie, singing "Because." I have say it - Alice Cooper sure looked weird behind that mustache!

He popped up again when my Aunt Ava started collecting Alice Cooper albums. Of course, I borrowed them and studied them. These guys were bored teenagers in Detroit. Add beer, horror movies, comic books, and rock music and voila! You have Alice Cooper. I really dug the music created by the original five members of Alice Cooper, with special emphasis on the music recorded between 1970 and 1974. Their albums are classic examples of great American 70s album rock.

One of my favorite memories is driving at top speed to the Coop's classic "My Stars" from School's Out. I was on my first "real" date, and I had to get her back to her parents before a certain time. We ran late, of course. You haven't lived until you hear "My Stars" at 85 miles an hour with a plume of auburn curls flying against your neck. Whoa, mama!

Well, my final score on the quiz was a miserable 93 out of a possible 100 points. So, I didn't get a free Alice Cooper box set. But, I got to see one of the greats up close. As I sit here, "Be My Lover" plays in the background.

Well I told her that I came from Detroit City
And I play guitar in a long-haired rock and roll band
She asked me why the singer's name was Alice
I said, "Listen, baby. You really wouldn't understand."

Happy birthday, Coop! Let's play a round or two of golf when you get the chance. I hear you're a pretty good player. I'm ready to go "clubbin'" when you are.

According to Lex’s aunts, Carole King was little Lex’s first “girlfriend.”

According to Lex's aunts, Carole King was little Lex's first "girlfriend." When Tapestry was played on the music room stereo, Lex would leap for the album cover and clutch it close to his heart. Happy birthday to Carole, who has a birthday on February 9.

I remember holding that album cover tightly to my chest while listening. I remember her frizzy brown hair, sweater, jeans, and her beautiful nose. Let me say this loud and clear. For the record, Carole King is the first female outside of my family that I loved. I was only three years old, but I remember getting the feeling of "love" from Tapestry.

I was born at the tail end of the 60s, and remember the early 70s because of Carole's music. When I was a baby, my mom would quiet me by leaving the radio or television on. By watching the t.v. or listening to AM radio, I was in constant contact with Carole. I just didn't know it yet.

I heard Carole's songs on the Monkees' television series. Remember "Pleasant Valley Sunday" and "Sometime In The Morning?" Those are part of Carole's canon. She co-wrote "Sweet Young Thing" with Mike Nesmith and her writing partner (and then-husband) Gerry Goffin. She wrote the title track for the Monkees' movie Head, as well as the beautiful soundtrack song called "As We Go Along."

On the radio, Carole's music took the form of "Chains" by the Cookies (and the Beatles), "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" by the Shirelles, and "The Loco-motion" by Little Eva (and Grand Funk Railroad), among others. Did I mention that Aretha Franklin's hit "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" is also a Carole creation? It's true.

I don't recall who brought Tapestry into the house, but it was on the turntable for a long time. It was played repeatedly, and the more it was played, the more I fell for Carole and her album cover. Her music, to me, sounds like "love." I can't explain it any other way. I remember her music made my heart change rhythm. My heart raced through "I Feel The Earth Move," and slowly fell back to normal for "It's Too Late."

I used to rock my feet to the song "Smackwater Jack." I loved the way Carole sang the word "shotgun;" it made my eyes involuntarily flutter. Her songs "Way Over Yonder" and "You've Got A Friend" really melted my "little kid" butter, and made me cry. The title track caught my ears years later, when I was old enough to understand it from a musical point of view. Try it sometime!

Did you know she also wrote "Don't Bring Me Down" by the Animals, as well as "One Fine Day" by the Chiffons? "Up On The Roof" by the Drifters and "Some Kind Of Wonderful" by both the Drifters and Grand Funk Railroad are hers, too. Yup! "Go Away Little Girl," the hit for both Steve Lawrence and Donny Osmond, was co-written by Carole. She can also lay claim to "Wasn't Born To Follow" by the Byrds and "Hi-De-Ho (That Sweet Ol' Roll)" by Blood, Sweat and Tears. Impressive, eh? I think so, too.

I'm digging the album right now, and I'm listening to "Beautiful." To this day, I still feel the same message it sent to my young ears all those years ago. You are, indeed, "as beautiful as you feel." One of my all time favorite love songs is "Where You Lead." The sentiment is heart-felt. The vocal arrangement still makes my ears prick right up.

Did you know that "Where You Lead" is the theme song for the series "The Gilmore Girls?" Yup, and it is performed by Carole and her daughter Louise. Check it out! Yes, Carole is everywhere.

Happy birthday, Carole. Thanks for the music, and the love.

Lex’s musical mind was shaped by a variety of different musicians, none more important than hi

Lex's musical mind was shaped by a variety of different musicians, none more important than his uncle, Kenneth Wickes. Uncle Kenny's birthday lands on February 18th.

After two tours of duty in Vietnam, my Uncle Kenny came back home. After some down time, he started catching up on his first passion, which was music. He was an award-winning brass player who could pick up, and master, almost any instrument.

I was almost two years old when he came back from the war. I would wander into the family's music room, where Kenny would sit and absorb jazz, rock, classical, and pop music. I'd sit there and he would explain the music as it played.

He learned that I loved music, even at such a tender age. I'd sit in his lap, and we'd listen to records from the collection he'd been building from the mid-50s until his induction into the army in '68. I remember him playing old 78s of Arturo Toscanini and the NBC Orchestra. I also remember him playing Miles Davis, and jazz-rock like Chicago, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Chase and Lighthouse.

He loved virtuosity in music; John Coltrane was one of his heroes. He also loved singer-songwriters, like Carole King, James Taylor, and Laura Nyro. He heard me singing "Yellow Submarine" one day, and he introduced me to Beatles records. I was in heaven, and starting to become a musician.

As I sat in Kenny's lap, he'd talk to me about music. He would also listen to a piece of music several times and analyze arrangements. He would teach me to follow along to horn parts in Chicago songs, vocals on Beatles songs, and drum parts on Led Zeppelin records. He would hum a part of a song to me, and I'd imitate the notes as best I could.

Just before school became a 20-year career, Kenny introduced me to the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I sat on his lap while we listened to the album. He took my index finger and together we followed the lyrics to each song. Before I hit kindergarten, I knew how to read and spell every word on Pepper. Kenny put me way ahead of the pack in school.

As I got older, I got to "jam" with the small, informal family "band." Kenny would instruct the kids in the family on which instrument to play, and how to play it. The most fun stuff to play was James Brown kind of stuff. We'd vamp on a riff and play until it sounded like music. That, and monthly trips to our local Licorice Pizza Record store were the most fun of my childhood.

As I got older, Kenny exhibited symptoms of post-war traumatic syndrome. It became harder and harder to get music time in because he didn't feel well. During my early teens, he had to be hospitalized. He'd experience severe flashbacks of his tour of duty. I'd visit, and he'd ask about my piano classes. He also gave me my first electric guitar while he was away. I promised to play him some Hendrix when he came back home.

Life for Uncle Kenny was very tough after the war, and he passed away at the age of 36. I lost him just before my 16th birthday, but he's still with me. I think of him when I'm in the studio, jumping from instrument to instrument. He's with me when I cannot find the right harmonies to fit a vocal part. When I wax poetically about certain pieces of music, it's really Kenny.

I wasn't drafted at 20 like my uncle. I didn't fight in the jungle and lose friends, or come home to face the fire of hundreds of protesters who took their disapproval of our government out on our soldiers. I also didn't have to spend 14 years suffering in silence after Vietnam, trying my best to put on "the brave face" for my family.

I was lucky to have this man as my uncle, and mentor. He may not be as famous as a lot of the people to whom I dedicate these blogs. But as sure as I am sitting here, he was the best music teacher I had; he cared. He discovered and nurtured the musician in me when nobody else knew.

He'd often say, "There are only two kinds of music; good and bad." I keep those words in my head to help keep me "honest" about Poppermost music. He also told me that the best part of humanity is the musical part.

Lex remembers and shares thoughts on Sly Stone, who celebrates his birthday on March 15. Happy birt

Lex remembers and shares thoughts on Sly Stone, who celebrates his birthday on March 15. Happy birthday Sly.

My mom used to constantly remind me that way before the Beatles AND the Partridge Family, I danced to the beat of Sly and the Family Stone. Of course like any good son, I’d deny the memory and tell my mom that she "remembered wrong" (after all, why should she be "right" all of the time?)

This would invariably throw me back in time to mid 1971 in South Central Los Angeles. I remember friends and family dancing to Sly’s first greatest hits album and the yellow Epic Records label on the album spinning on the family stereo. I remember that the songs were infectious, memorable, and fun. "Dance to the Music," "M’Lady," "Fun," and "Hot Fun In The Summertime" stand out in my mind. According to the time frame, I was 2 years old.

The messages in the songs were clear, simple, and aimed at everyone. It was peace and love wrapped in a funky pop music confection. Everybody is a star. You can make it if you try. I am everyday people. I wanna take you higher. Thank you for letting me be myself again. Sly’s music was universal.

Sly and the Family Stone were much more than the sum of their parts. Musically, there was no one like them. Sly mixed soul music with pop, rock, and funky rhythm and blues. Together, they created a sound that gave you the urge to involuntarily shake your ass. So, I shook my ass until I fell asleep with a bottle of chocolate milk.

They are also black and white, male and female working in sync. They were the musical equivalent of what the ideal society should be. Like musical notes boppin’ and bouncin’ around in perfect harmony, everybody participates in creating something bigger, greater, and more positive while maintaining an individual "groove."

The next time you’re listening to Sly and the Family Stone, you’ll not only shake and shimmy, but you’ll have a positive vibe in your heart and mind. And if not, that’s okay. The rest of us will be there, shouting "All the squares, go home!"

Big love to Sly Stone.

The rock legend torched his 1965 Fender Stratocaster at the end of a show at the Astoria in Finsbury Park, north London, in March 1967.

The stunt sent roadies rushing to put out the flames and left Hendrix needing treatment for minor burns.

But amid the hubbub, press officer Tony Garland cleared away the scorched Stratocaster and stored it in his parents garage in Hove, East Sussex, where it lay forgotten for nearly 40 years.

Even as Hendrix became famous for burning his guitars on stage the instrument remained undiscovered until last year when it was unearthed by Garland's nephew.

The guitar was bought for just over the estimated price at the Fame Bureau's It's More Than Rock And Roll auction at the Idea Generation Gallery in east London, the guitar was snapped up for just over the estimated price.

American collector Daniel Boucher who bought piece of rock history, said: "I thought I'd have to pay a little bit more for it, actually. I am going to play it, I hope some of it rubs off on me.

"It changed music, he raised the bar so high you couldn't get over it. Obviously it is an investment, it couldn't not be an investment for that amount of money, but I bought it because I like it."

Also sold in the auction was the last notebook of the Doors' Jim Morrison featuring poetry, partial lyrics and Morrison's thoughts in his last months before he died which fetched £58,000.

The first contract between The Beatles and their manager Brian Epstein, dubbed the most important music contract of all time, was also sold for £240,000.

For almost two decades, he was the most in-demand session pianist in rock; the Beatles, Kinks, Who, Jeff Beck Group, Steve Miller Band, Jefferson Airplane -- there was hardly a major rock band in the world that hadn't benefited from Hopkins' deft touch at the keyboards. Born in London in 1944, Hopkins honed his chops with Screaming Lord Sutch and British bluesmeister Cyril Davies before producer Shel Talmy absconded with him to provide keyboards on early Kinks and Who albums. Hopkins' biggest break was in 1967, when he worked with the Stones on Their Satanic Majesties Request; it was the start of a professional relationship with the band that would last until 1980. Hopkins only recorded three solo albums, the second of which, The Tin Man Was a Dreamer, was a surprisingly solid, engaging record that, frankly, no one thought he was capable of recording. Frail and often in ill health, Hopkins never toured much, preferring the studio to the road. Sadly, his chronic health problems culminated in his death in October 1994. - John Dougan (allmusic.com)

This may be old news to some of you, If so... Ok,

but I wasn't around yet in the 60's, so I hadn't heard this rumor until I stumbled across it on the God blessed internet.

Being a Beatles fan ( McCartney my fav. ) and also being that I tend to become facinated with conspiracy theories-I ended up pouring over countless sites and YouTube vids dedicated to the 'Paul is Dead' theory. For days and days I wrapped myself up in this horrific ( Yes, Horrific! ) bit of gossip.

I looked over all the Beatles' album clues, the lyric clues, the incriminating pre-'66 vs. post-'66 photos of Paul and I must admit that these sites can be Terrifyingly convincing. I thought I had Never heard anything more absurd than this 'Paul is dead' rumor....but a few websites and YouTube videos later I am almost in tears. I am starting to buy in! I am starting to think to myself, ' My God! It could be true!'

There are, no doubt, obvious *clues* on many albums- in the pictures and in the lyrics (turn me on dead man).

It seems to me that some of these strange hints had to be intentionally placed on the albums. I'm not sure that they were placed there as clues to tell us that our Beloved Paul McCartney died. Could be The Beatles were just playing with the rumor...after all, they were very clever. Sure didn't hurt album sales, in fact, It most likely boost album sales. Great marketing scheme-Eh?

Well, as convincing as these 'Paul is Dead' websites are-There are also lots of 'Paul is Alive' and 'Paul's not Dead' websites that are equally convincing ( Thank The Good Lord!)

So, why is it that these conspiracy theories become so intriguing so absorbing?

Why are we So drawn to secrets, clues, mysteries? ~ Hmmm...That's another mystery.

Is Paul McCartney dead? Was he replaced by a look alike named Billy?

I don't know...furthermore, I don't think I want to know. Sometimes ignorance Is bliss!

Long live Paul McCartney...(or Billy or William...or...whoever he is)

by Treadmarkz

The other day I was thumbing through a rack of old LPs at a kiosk on the St. Vital Mall in Winnipeg, and I found a stack of Beatles records that for some reason nobody had snatched up yet. I didn't waste a moment in deciding to buy the LP version of "Magical Mystery Tour", "Beatles Live at the Hollywood Bowl" and "Yesterday...and Today."

As if this wasn't enough for a Beatles fanatic like me, I found out after the fact that all proceeds from purchases made at this kiosk were to go to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. A little piece of cosmic serendipity, possibly. I wish I could say I bought the records because I wanted to make a benevolent contribution to the Reeve cause, but that is simply not true. But I am glad I bought them.

I am in a wheelchair with a spinal chord related disorder myself so I had a pretty good idea what the Reeve Foundation was about, but I looked into it a little more last night. I am not going to go into the issue of Spinal Cord Injury research too much, but regardless of your opinion on the controversial issue, what they are doing at the Reeve Foundation can only lead to some good coming to those whose lives have been changed to an indefinite degree by their injury.

Take a look at the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation by clicking HERE. I'll be adding it to my blog roll soon.

No terceiro eu havia pedido 'algumas letras' e ele me mandou o alfabeto (bela sacaneada).

Abaixo o vídeo com Paul e a Rockestra (grupinho formado por Denny Laine, Laurence Juber, David Gilmour, Hank Marvin, Pete Townshend (guitaras), Steve Holly, John Bonham, Kenney Jones (bateria), Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones (pianos), Ronnie Lane, Bruce Thomas (baixo), Gary Brooker, Linda McCartney, Tony Ashton (teclados), Speedy Acquaye, Tony Carr, Ray Cooper, Morris Pert (percussão), Howie Casey, Tony Dorsey, Steve Howard, Thaddeus Richard e Robert Plant, entre outros).

Reparem no estado do rapaz.

[caption id="attachment_245" align="alignleft" width="200" caption="Some dreams have special meaning to more than one person"][/caption]

It is kind of funny how even when we work with our dreams and see the benefits we can obtain in our own lives, often we still somehow don't have the real confidence to totally trust how amazing and inspirational our dreams can really be. On another level, dreams can even speak in such a universal language that they tap into something far more than simply the personal experience.

I know I have spent most of the last posts insisting that only you really know the meaning of your dreams, but I would like to add that that does not mean your dreams are only important to you alone. Jung speaks to us of the "Collective Subconscious," that part of the human experience that is shared by all of us and can create a collective experience. No matter our age, religion, gender or culture, we all have common shared experiences: we are all born into this earth of a mother, we all seek nurturing, we all wish for love and our initial instincts are to avoid pain. This universal language also exists in our dreams, and if we can access it and speak it to others, we can often reach other people at a very deep level.

So today's blog is dedicated to some famous dreams, that have given humanity as a whole gifts of insight, joy and expression, in a way that transcends the purely personal. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but a few examplesto inspire!

Some Famous Dreams:
Stories and Music
"Yesterday" the Beatles hit song, came as a tune to Paul McCartney in a dream.
The plot for "Doctor Jeckyl and Mr Hyde" was revealed to Robert Louis Stevenson in a dream.
Stephen King, the horror novelist, was inspired to write "Misery" from a dream, and also dreamed ideas for his novel, "It."
"Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley was inspired by an idea that came to her in a dream.

Science and Medicine
Otto Loewi dreamed of chemical transmission of nerve impulses that led to him winning a Nobel Prize.
Friedrich August Kekulé von Stradonitz dreamed of two major scientific breakthroughs, one that helped him discover the benzene structure in a famous image of a snake eating its own tail, revealing the structure was circular, instead of the usual liner shape; and another that helped him discover the tetravalent nature of carbon.
Madame CJ Walker, the first female self made American millionaire, dreamed of a solution to her scalp problem delivered by a large black man who sourced the key ingredient from Africa. She developed and sold the product and went onto to develop a massively successful cosmetics company.

[caption id="attachment_250" align="alignright" width="150" caption="Madame CJ Walker dreamed a solution to her scalp problem, that turned her into a millionaire!"][/caption]

So when you are working on your dreams, it might be worthwhile to think that the message or solution you are being presented with has a much more far reaching significance than you might have originally thought - but only if you act upon what insight you have learned!

Astronaut John Glenn was the first person to orbit the earth. The Beatles released their first album in the U.S. and appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show (see video). The first Ford Mustang rolled off the factory floor. Television saw the introduction of the Jeopardy! gameshow. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. received the Nobel Peace Prize. Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life in prison for his views on anti-apartheid. The Civil Rights Act was passed into law. And in 1964, Senator Margaret Chase Smith (R - Maine 1949 - 1973) became the first U.S. woman to have her name placed in nomination for a major party!

And in 1964, two really terrific people were born: Sarah Louise Heath Palin and me!

That makes both of us 44 years young. Whah hoo!

I've actually read and heard some say that they think 44 is too young for a vice presidential candidate. But I would have to argue that age is NOT an accurate indicator of the level of responsibility a person is capable of handling successfully. Chronological age obviously does have some influence; the longer one is alive, the more opportunity there is to gain experience in a variety of areas that build maturity, understanding, and more "big picture" thinking.

However, many people have or seek opportunities that expedite that growth process. Sarah Palin is one who has sought these experiences. She began serving on the her city counsel in 1992, at the age of 28. She's served in public offices for a combined 12 years, and is currently serving as the youngest and most popular governor ever in the state of Alaska. This speaks highly to me.

And there's the issue of Mr. Obama's age. Is he really so much older and wiser at 47... just 2-1/2 years older than our candidate for veep? I think not.

And what about presidents and vice presidents in the history of this country? Here's a short list

Vice Presidents: 9 out of 46 (nearly 20%) U.S. vice presidents have been age 45 and younger (note that should McCain win the election, Sarah Palin will be 45 just three weeks after inaugeration).

John C. Breckinridge - 36 (1857)

Richard Nixon - 40 (1953)

Dan Quayle - 41 (1989)

Daniel D. Tompkins - 42 (1817)

John C. Calhoun - 42 (1825)

Theodore Roosevelt - 42 (1901)

Al Gore - 44 (1993)

Aaron Burr - 45 (1801)

Schuyler Colfax - 45 (1869)

Presidents: By comparison, only 6 out of 46 (13%) U.S. presidents have been age 48 and younger (extra year added just to be fair).

Theodore Roosevelt - 42 (1901)

John F. Kennedy - 43 (1961)

Bill Clinton - 46 (1993)

Ulysses S. Grant - 46 (1869)

Grover Cleveland - 47 (1885)

Franklin Pierce - 48 (1853)

The Constitution of the United States says, regarding qualifications for the presidency, "neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years." So, I guess the point of chronological age (for either candidate) is moot anyway.

Prince told police that the drugs had been left by a friend and the gun was a souvenir of his German tour last year. Prince already has a drugs conviction from 1963, for which he was fined £ 25.

The couple had spent a night out at the London premiere of "The Buddy Holly Story" after a large dinner with Paul McCartney and other friends, where they'd announced their engagement. In the morning, Moon got up, had some breakfast and took some pills to help him sleep before returning to bed. He never woke up again. Initial reports indicate death was due to an overdose of Heminevrin, prescribed for insomnia.
