The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has finally solved the mystery of how World Trade Center

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has finally solved the mystery of how World Trade Center 7 (WTC 7) fell on Sept. 11, 2001.

BBC computer software programmer Sir Henry Gout has created a new building collapse theory backed up by a computer model that satisfactorily explains why WTC 7 -- also known as the Salomon Brothers building -- fell symmetrically into its own footprint that day even though it was not damaged by an airplane strike.

The new theory holds that WTC 7 did not in fact have steel beams in its core, but Lego building blocks instead. Lego blocks are small, brick-shaped plastic pieces that snap together and are used by children to construct various objects.

[wp_caption id="attachment_256" align="alignleft" width="283" caption="Because the BBC announced the collapse of the Salomon Brothers building 23 minutes before it did collapse on Sept. 11, 2001, it has earned the right to determine the cause of the collapse."][/wp_caption]

"Lego blocks were used during the construction of the Salomon Brothers building," Gout explained. "The computer model I've come up with demonstrates that. There were small fires in the building that were not hot enough to melt steel, but could easily have melted Lego building blocks. Ergo ipso factoid."

The unexplained collapse of WTC 7 has cast doubt on the U.S. government's version of what happened during the Sept. 11 attacks. If terrorists were not involved with the collapse of WTC 7, then some believe the building's collapse must have been a controlled demolition. And if WTC 7 was a controlled demolition, perhaps the Twin Towers fell due to demolition as well. That would rule out terrorism as the cause of the Sept. 11 attacks, and indicate an act of high treason from within the U.S. government.

In addition, some suspect that if the Sept. 11 attacks in the U.S. were bogus then perhaps the July 7, 2005 London bombings were staged as well, in order to ensure public support for the continued occupation of the Middle East by the West.

However, Gout stands firm behind his complex WTC 7 computer model, although he acknowledges that physical proof showing that melting Lego blocks were the cause is not available.

"The plastic Lego blocks in the building would have all melted into pretty piles of blue, green, yellow and red," he said. "But the remains of the building were quickly removed and disposed of, so we'll just have to assume they were there. And nobody wants to talk about this anymore, so the mystery is solved."

The BBC is an official organ of the British government, and is funded by the British people through compulsory TV tax donations.

Ummmmmm...I have no qualms with slash. Watching House M.D. is infinitely more entertaining once you realize that it's written as an unrequited, and possibly unrealized, affair between its two male leads. Infinitely more entertaining. And by entertaining I mean hawt.

I have no qualms with slash.

I have few qualms with real person slash. I get that there's a different boundary when you cross from character-based fiction into person-based fiction. Regardless, as it's still fiction, I have few qualms.

That said, I don't expect slashy videos from news sites. Deliberately slashy. I know that Wimbledon is somewhat sacred in England. I know that tennis coverage has a tendency toward melodrama. I know that emotions are running high in what will be a historic Wimbledon final, regardless of its outcome.

But seriously, what the hell is this, LiveJournal? The violins? The romance novel script? The manipulation of images?

The BBC gives me quirky headlines, snarky stories and now...tennis slash.

As usual, there's no embedding videos from the BBC so you'll have to click through but, mostly so you'd believe me, I had to copy this image.

Um, yeah. I have no qualms with slash. And apparently, I have no interest in Fed/Nadal slash. It's funny, but not particularly hot.

The finale to the latest series of Doctor Who was seen by an average audience of 9.4m people on BBC One.

The final 15 minutes of the drama pulled in 9.8m viewers, capturing close to 50% of the entire TV audience.

After the Time Lord was wounded by a Dalek at the end of last week's episode, speculation had mounted that the Doctor would regenerate.

In a closely-guarded storyline, this failed to happen, leaving the way clear for actor David Tennant's return.

Unexpected twists

A fifth series of the show is scheduled for 2010.

In Saturday's episode the Doctor was helped by a small army of his companions to once again defeat the Daleks and their evil creator Davros to save the universe.

In an episode packed with unexpected twists, the Doctor was cloned and current companion Catherine Tate's character Donna Noble absorbed some of his mind to become half-Time Lord.

At the end of the episode the Doctor left his cloned self - who was half-human and as such will age and die - to live with his former companion Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper, in another reality.

The Doctor also separated from Donna, who had to have her mind wiped of all memories of their time together, before departing on his own in the Tardis.

Tennant has been confirmed to star in the lead role for a number of BBC One specials next year.

The fifth series, with Bafta-winning writer Steven Moffat at the helm, is scheduled to be broadcast on BBC One early the following year.

Moffat is to take over from current writer and executive producer, Russell T Davies, from 2010.

There is a justifiable uproar over both Viacom’s attempts (and apparent success) at obtaining

There is a justifiable uproar over both Viacom's attempts (and apparent success) at obtaining user information from Google and Google's accumulation of this information in the first place. Viacom obtained a court order for Google to turn over login names and IP addresses of its users in relation to viewings of Viacom's copyrighted video materials on YouTube. The internet, it seems, is not like telephone service; every use of this utility is said to leave a digital trail.

But is this necessarily so? If I perform a search on Google without logging in, or any other search engine for that matter, is that search traceable to me? If one views a particular video on YouTube, is information or data stored that would clearly identify exactly who viewed the video and at what time?

Much in the way of privacy issues seems to me to stem from matters of convenience for the average user, who for example may perform searches or surf the internet under a particular Google user ID. The average user, enjoying the benefits of being "signed in" to Google (such as being able to store locations searched for on Google Maps) may not realize or understand that a search of a more, ahem, private nature is also made under that same login ID, unless the user signs out. But even if the user signs out of Google, the user must still worry about his or her internet service provider; presumably, even on a cable internet or T1 connection, there is still some data that is transmitted back and forth that identifies that user as the legitimate subscriber.

While a theory of electronic privacy protection is overdue, I'll leave that for a later time. It's my understanding that not only can one search the internet without being "logged on" to a particular search engine, but also that IP addresses do not necessarily connect or point to a single computer or user. While I wouldn't trust YouTube spokesman Ricardo Reyes any further than I could Google Throw him, he confirms in an NPR story my understanding of the IP address, by pointing out that it is a "random number generated to the computer you are working from," and that "there is no coupling of that information that we have that can identify you in any way, shape, or form to who you are."

So far, I haven't heard much at all about the technological limitations of tracing identities online, except for NPR's inclusion of Mr. Reyes' explanation. While I'm inclined very much to side with privacy advocates in these regards, neither would I like to see a one-sided mongering of fear over this issue. The BBC story labels the IP address as an "online identifier," without much in the way of further explanation. I would hope there are some fine lads at the National Security Agency who can, in fact, trace communications back to specific would-be terrorists, but I also think that this kind of endeavor would require such extraordinary resources that if one were to develop any viable methods, the NSA would go out of its way to find you and say, "Oh, yeah, that's interesting how you've traced these IP numbers. Yeah, we... really don't know how to do that. Now sign these papers, or we'll kill you."

I'm not a computer expert. In fact, I often get angry at computers for not doing what I think they should do, so it's probably best that I'm not a computer expert. Is there anyone out there who is? Care to comment?

I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist. If anything, I believe that Apple Co. is trying to take over the country, then the world; but that's about it. Now, all the 9/11 conspiracy theories don't necessarily piss me off, but I do find them to be fairly absurd. But I did find THIS ARTICLE interesting. It comes from the BBC. Not Fox or CNN (MSNBC can get pretty legit). So I trust it to be at least honest and fair. They don't stray too far from center most of the time. And on the outside, the reporting/writing may seem "boring", but isn't that the way news should be?? Anyways, the article delves into the tower collapse of the World Trade Center, known as "Tower Seven". Tower Seven sat on a separate block, the block closest North, from the Center (although technically it was all the same complex).

Tower Seven was much smaller than the others, a 47 floor tall building. The Tower collapsed SEVEN hours after the other two main collapses. Inspectors have been investigating the incident for some time now. Apparently they're likely to say that a series of fires threatened the structural integrity of the building. Now, this is a direct quote from the BBC: " That would make it the first and only steel skyscraper in the world to collapse because of fire." Yes, it's worth repeating: That would make it the first and only steel skyscraper in the world to collapse because of fire. Interesting. Especially when taken with the fact that it collapsed seven hours after the Twin Towers collapsed. A rather large group of architects, engineers, and scientists are coming together to say that the fire explanation doesn't make any sense at all. Here are some facts (but real facts; you know? The kinds that are TRUE) about Tower Seven which supposedly support conspiracy theories about the collapse. And again, these come straight out of the article (I strongly recommend reading it, it's interesting):

Although its collapse potentially made architectural history, all of the thousands of tonnes of steel from the skyscraper were taken away to be melted down.

The third tower was occupied by the Secret Service, the CIA, the Department of Defence and the Office of Emergency Management, which would co-ordinate any response to a disaster or a terrorist attack.

The destruction of the third tower was never mentioned in the 9/11 Commission Report. The first official inquiry into Tower Seven by the Federal Emergency Management Agency was unable to be definitive about what caused its collapse.

In May 2002 FEMA concluded that the building collapsed because intense fires had burned for hours, fed by thousands of gallons of diesel stored in the building. But it said this had "only a low probability of occurrence" and more work was needed.

Again, here's the link: 9/11 Third Tower Mystery Solved?.

Perhaps it is just me. I can barely understand why a woman in her forties would want to have a baby, let alone a woman in her seventies.

Yup, you heard me right. seventies. A woman in India is now the oldest woman to give birth. Spending their life savings (and also taking out a loan) on IVF, she and her husband had twins. Twins! At 70!

Imagine chasing two toddlers in your seventies.

Imagine dealing with two teenagers in your eighties! (OK, now I am dizzy and I need a drink.)

And all this, just because they wanted a male heir. (Although, if they spent all the money, I am not sure what affairs the boy will have to handle, but what the hell do I know?)

Feel free to pop on over to the BBC to read all the gory details.

A woman in her 70's gave birth to twins in a quest for a boy in Uttar Pradesh, India, reported BBC today. The woman's husband, a farmer, also in mid-70's said he wanted a boy to take care of his property. They conceived using the method of In Vitro Fertilization.

On one hand, India is making a mark in the world by its fast paced developement. Ironically, the same advancement is being used (in this case, IVF) to continue its inflated importance on males. A practice that puts an eldery woman's life in danger to advance a culture that stresses male supremacy, is really sad and a slap in the face of 21st century's "development".

How could i talk about anything else but the season finale? So amazingly amazing and mind-boggling i am having to watch it again whilst i type so i don't miss out any awesomeness. The theme music is going. Love the extra names in the credits! Let the awesome begin.

Doctor regenerates into himself as expected. No one actually seems that surprised, least of all the audience. But still!

Mickey! With a gun! And Jackie! Saving Sarah Jane! Oh Mickey you're so fine! You're so fine you blow my mind! Hey Mickey! Very cute when he kisses his gun goodbye

Time lock in Torchwood- we hardly see anything of Gwen and Ianto for the rest of the episode which sucks a little

Rose Doctor Hug! And Donna flirting with Jack. But no "I Love You"! HE NEVER SAYS IT AND IT KILLED ME! I DON'T CARE IF HE WHISPERS IT-IT ISN'T THE SAME!

Ooh, Doctor's hair looks nice this episode. As does Rose's.

Martha. Martha Martha Martha. Every time she came on screen i just yelled "I want to kill you!". Her part of the plot was so pointless, though it was cute when she finds out the Doctor found Rose. I liked her more the second time i watched the episode because i wasn't so like "rawr! whats going to happen to the Doctor!?!?!?!"

German Daleks! Saying Exterminate in German! Though...i don't think they were as according to Babel Fish, exterminate in German is "abschaffen Sie" and these Daleks said something like "exterimineren!"...or maybe online translators suck

Happy smile because Rose was trying to find him! Happy lovely grin!

What is with that red supreme dalek? Was that like explained ever?

The TARDIS was going to be destroyed! So much TARDIS-oh-noes-its-going-to-be-deaded-and-donna-too agnst! Having to watch as well! The poor little thing! With Donna! Nice knowing what to do temp from Chiswick! Offering Himself instead of Donna was very sweet. Love that child of Gallifrey, his little distressed face! I like the way Daleks phrase things. "You are the playthings of Davros now!"

They killed Jack- his skeleton looks very funny when he dies. Hee hee hee.

Naked Doctor. So so jealous. Always so so surprised that David Tennant has sexy chest hair. Though naked regenerationness kind of reminds me of The Terminator when he turns up naked after travelling through time. They totally should have had an arse shot. Doctor Numero Duo- i love your hand as well. And your neck. And the extra Donna attitude. One heart though! No longer beating a samba. Loving the way he says "wizard".

Donna not believing shes special! Poor poor Donna! You are special! You aren't just some stupid temp! We love you! Shun the non believers! Shun! You were for one shining moment the most important woman in the universe! You were always so important

Crazy german lady trying to kill Martha. Martha speaking german! Hee hee. Anyone else feel a slightly anti-german vibe? Because i'm guessing it must be a german who invented this whole Osterhagen key...you know, the one which detonates nuclear warheads in the Earth's crust...

Davros is just so weird. Not like cool-weird. The laughter? Honestly. Kind of reminds me of the Emperor from Star Wars. Especially with the destiny/prophecyness . "Doctor...it is your destiny...". You are pathetic Davros. Stop making the Doctor feel bad! Stop giving him angst! Stop giving him flashbacks! All his actions were for good! Plus, Davros dies pathetically as well. So in your ugly ugly face!

Reality bomb?! Craziness! It is a very cool plot. Nothing but Daleks. What would they actually do? Just...be? They would probably have ended up killing each other. Well done to Mickey for helping Jackie escape from the testing! Though maybe a bit more distress from the people dying/about to die would have been more heart wrenching. The Doctor! So angry and helpless! Shaking with rage! Hug! He needs a hug! And you know, for some help in saving the universe

Yays for Sarah Jane and her warp star! And for being so brave towards Davros! You go girl!

His children of time are not murderers! Plus- some people in that people-who-died-for-you montage weren't dead (i.e daughter: regenerates though i wish she died because shes a whore bitch who stole David Tennant from singledom and Ursula: face is in a slab on concrete). You aren't victorious Davros you're just a fucking bastard!

Two David Tennants one screen! Happy happy! Though it was painful seeing him get shot all over again. Also rather liking Jack being all "i can't tell you what i'm thinking right now". Jack i am so there.

Über smart Donna (though the glowy eyes thing was a bit laughable) ! Yays! Love the spinning Daleks! Très awesome. Looked a bit disco :) Saving all the planets!

Dalek Caan! I love you! Helping the Doctor! You sexy betrayer you, seeing the truth about Daleks! He would be quite fun to live with if you think about it.

All of them flying the TARDIS (except Jackie), they are so cute! Flying earth home! Sadly no reappearance of the random milkman from last episode, but Wilf celebrating was good enough.

"Doing it now sir" loving you Ianto. Loving you so much.

K9! The gangs all here! ♥

Martha and Mickey to Torchwood!

Oh my god Bad Wolf Bay brings back emotions. He grows old...he can spend that life with you Rose Tyler! Together.

This was so unbelievably sad. He still doesn't say i love you, i was yelling and yelling but he didn't! But they kissed. And they'll be happy, Rose and Doctor Numero Duo. Yet Doctor Original is so sad

Donna! Donna Donna! All the amazing things shes done...all gone. Never knowing. The Doctor not being able to say a proper goodbye. He is so sorry Donna! So sorry! Donna angst, a whole new angst.

Wilf! You know he will stick to his promise of looking out for him

It ends with the Doctor all alone, coming in from the rain, taking off his jacket...all alone. Everyone else has somebody but him. And it makes me want to cry.

And this blog is like 1000+ words. Wow. Can't wait for Christmas 2008. Return of the Cybermen! I will be ready.

Sir Charles Wheeler, pictured left has died. Adam heard mention of this overnight on Friday.

Adam well remembers listening to, as well as seeing this reporter so many times over the years. A brief extract from the Times obituary follows, but the entire piece repays reading.

The doyen of BBC foreign correspondents, Charles Wheeler earned a permanent niche in television history through his coverage of the Watergate scandal during his years as the corporation’s chief correspondent in the United States. Often ahead of the American press corps, he exploited the contacts he had built up during seven years in Washington to provide the fullest and most comprehensive reporting available in the British media — and more than matching in quality, though not in quantity, that of the American networks.

Lots has been written about the sad death of the great Charles Wheeler. I though John Tusa summed him up best in today's Guardian:

"Charles was the obverse of a puffed-up "personality journalist" - the kind of person who thinks his personal presence is our message. Charles was the last of the great BBC bureau chiefs, the journalists expected to lead the BBC's coverage of a great subject - India, the US - and to do so with real knowledge and total authority. Listeners and viewers recognised that when he expressed a judgment, it was based on thought, knowledge, experience, and acquired information, not on prejudice or wish-fulfilment."

Fact File

Davros

Julian Bleach, who plays Davros, appeared in an RSC production of The Tempest opposite Patrick Stewart... who was one of several actors mistakenly rumoured to be playing the evil genius. Sir Ben Kingsley was another name incorrectly attached to the role. Julian previously appeared in the Torchwood episode Out Of The Rain, as the Ghost Maker.

Keep It In The Family

Eve Myles, who plays Gwen Cooper in Torchwood, also played Gwyneth in series one episode The Unquiet Dead. The Doctor comments on spacial genetic multiplication when he asks her about her family coming from Cardiff, implying that Gwyneth is indeed a relative or past incarnation of Gwen. This finally clears up the connection many of you would have noticed between the two.

The Cult Of Skaro

That's now two members now of the former 'Cult of Skaro' that have seen the Daleks for what they truly are - first Dalek Sec in Evolution of the Daleks (2007), and now Dalek Caan.

Accidents Will Happen

What happened to Davros has only ever been referred to by himself as 'an accident'. The original draft of the script did show Davros as the man he once was, and what happened to him...

Reunion

Davros recalls seeing Sarah Jane Smith on Skaro, when he first created the Daleks. This is, of course, a nod to the classic 1975 story Genesis of The Daleks, in which the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane travelled to Skaro in order to stop the Daleks ever being created.

Take Control

It's sometimes been claimed that TARDISes are designed to be flown by six pilots (eg, in the 1992 novel Doctor Who - Cat's Cradle: Time's Crucible), although this is the first time this has been confirmed in the TV series.

Grow Your Own

In the original script, the Doctor gave Rose's Doctor a small piece of 'coral' from the TARDIS so that he could create his own Time/Space machine from it.

What's In A Name?

'Osterhagen' just happens to be an anagram of 'Earth's Gone'.

Bay Watch

For the Bad Wolf Bay scenes towards the end of the episode, the crew returned to the beach at Southerndown, a few miles west of Cardiff. They previously filmed there for Rose's departure in Series Two's Doomsday.

Half Human?

Those of you who have been slightly bothered for the last 12 years by the comment made by the Eighth Doctor in the TV Movie that he was half human on his mother's side, can probably breathe a sigh of relief now. The Doctor #2 seems shocked that he has become uniquely half human due to the biological metacrisis wth Donna, strongly suggesting that he never was before.

German Lesson

If you were wondering about some of the dialogue during Martha's trip to Germany, Script Editor Lindsey Alford and Kevin Myers offer these handy translations!:

FX: way off in the distance, DALEKS, in the air, gliding slowly through the trees.

DALEKS: Exterminieren! Exterminieren! Halt! Sonst werden wir Sie exterminieren! Sie sind jetzt ein Gefangener der Daleks! Exterminieren! Exterminieren!

Translation: Exterminate! Exterminate! Stop! Or you will be exterminated. You are a prisoner of the Daleks. Exterminate! Exterminate!

Martha heads off in the opposite direction. Scurrying away into the darkness. On a mission.
OLD WOMAN: Hier ist niemand. Was immer Sie wollen, gehen Sie fort. Lassen Sie mich in Ruhe.

Translation: There's no one here. Whatever you want, just go away. Leave me alone.

The OLD WOMAN's hostile, standing on the path.

MARTHA: Ich heisse Martha Jones.

Translation: I'm called Martha Jones. I come from UNIT. Agent 5, 6, 6, 7, 1. Medical officer.

OLD WOMAN: Es hiess Sie kaemen vorbei.

Translation: They said you might come.

Translation: You are the nightmare. It's not them, it's you! I should kill you right now!

MARTHA: Then do it.

And Martha just steps into the lift.

The Old Woman lowers her gun, defeated, shaking.

OLD WOMAN: Marta. Zur Hoelle mit Dir.

Translation: Martha. You're going straight to Hell.

Well, Ireland and the UK watched the last episode of Season Two of Heroes. "Powerless" was probably the best of a weak season, in my opinion. This was mainly due to a writers strike in America which crippled the majority of shows, like 24, Bones and House. With the writers strike over as I write, and Season Three due for airing, I am anticipating a return to form.
The last episode left me a lot of questions and with so many things happening, I am not sure how Season Three with start. Will Nathan be cut out after being shot? Will Niki survive the explosion? or will Adam manage to get out of that shallow grave considering he cannot die. I'm hoping all three will be answered with Yes. There are many rumours too with new characters, new powers and new possibilities. We will have to wait until September when the show starts up in BBC2 and on Channel 6 in Ireland.

A man has been arrested after tearing the head off a wax figure of Adolf Hitler at a newly opened branch of Madame Tussauds in Berlin.

The 41-year-old man was held after attacking the waxwork, only hours after the attraction opened on Saturday.

The inclusion of Hitler in the exhibition has aroused controversy in a country where Nazi symbols are banned.
But the exhibition's organisers said they could hardly depict German history without portraying Hitler.

They said the waxwork depicted Hitler in the hours before his suicide, a defeated figure slumped in his bunker as the Red Army reached Berlin.

The Fuhrer was positioned behind a table, which was supposed to prevent visitors posing with the statue - or damaging it.

That didn't take long. I was reading about this exhibit the other day and thought to myself, a lot of people are going to be really upset over this.

BBC:s Last Man Standing är helt outstanding!

The BBC has continued to exercise biased reporting against China whilst favouring South Korea in its news report this week.

Huge protests in Seoul against the resumption of US beef in recent weeks have seen the 'use of force' against the protesters. Visuals of police officers kicking and beating the protesters with batons were shown on Asian news networks but the BBC had completely gloss over the action whilst citing the use of water cannon to mitigate the brutality.

China on the other hand did not beget the kind of attitude and understanding the BBC had conferred to South Korea as the British news giant brings up the country's human rights record and linked the efforts to restore order in a violent protest in Tibet in March as a human rights issue which would affect its Olympic Games.

The article, published on Friday July 4, emphasised the 'use of force' by the Chinese authorities to bring order to a violent protest in Lhasa - described as a 'demonstration' by the western media such as the BBC - which killed scores of civilians of mainly Han ethnics.

'Use of force', 'quell', 'anti-China', 'demonstration'; along with the words like 'suppress' and 'repress' are the languages frequently used in the anti-China propaganda by western media and politicians to tarnish China's image.

The BBC had been keen to repeat the point about the unproven claims by 'Tibetan groups' that the Chinese security forces had killed more people than what the official record had stated on the unrest in Tibet.

I was saddened to learn yesterday of the death of Sir Charles Wheeler, one of the greatest reporter

I was saddened to learn yesterday of the death of Sir Charles Wheeler, one of the greatest reporters ever to grace the BBC, a reporter who believed in the facts of the story rather than speculation and conjecture.

As a boy in the 1960s, I used to enjoy current affairs programmes on the television, especially the BBC's "Panorama." The bushy haired Wheeler, who spoke with calm authority, always transfixed me with his reports. Maybe it was his manner and style that planted in me the seed of becoming a journalist.

In later years, I grew to admire him from a professional standpoint. Wheeler set the standards of good reporting that I could only dream of aspiring to. If I had one tenth of his talent, I would be twice the journalist that I am.

Wheeler was a news reporter's ultimate news reporter, telling a story impartially and getting at the truth. He also kept his distance from those personalities making the news, particularly politicians.

If I was unable to emulate Wheeler's journalistic skill, at least I could try to follow the way he conducted himself. His presentation was low-key. He believed in reporting the news not becoming the news. From reading his obituaries in the British press, I have learned that he did not suffer fools gladly and neither do I.

My admiration of him grew even greater when I learned that he had taken part in the D-Day landings during the Second World War. I have a feeling that experience explained not only his approach to journalism but also his integrity, the professionalism with which he conducted himself, and his disdain for the media's present pre-occupation with celebrities.

Wheeler sought the truth and exposed injustice. Journalists, who deviate from the standard he set, and many do these days, are failing in their duty and performing a great disservice to the public.
