Cubs badge crime prevention honour [1]
Release date: Wed 2 July 2008
Last updated: Wed 2 July 2008

Victoria Police recognised future crime preventers this week when one of the first cub packs in Australia was awarded the first Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) badge.

An initiative of Scouts Australia, Neighbourhood Watch and Victoria Police, the NHW badge has been designed to teach young cubs how to be safe at home and to introduce them to the Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

“This initiative has been carefully co-ordinated to ensure that every will be awarded the badge by their local Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator who will also talk about personal safety and the work of NHW” Acting Deputy Commissioner Bob Hastings said.

The introduction of the NHW badge for cubs is the first step in establishing a link between Scouts Australia, Neighbourhood Watch and Victoria Police.

Scouting has a long history in assisting young people to become responsible members of society and Neighbourhood Watch is always looking for new volunteers of all ages to become active members of the community.

This year, Neighbourhood Watch celebrated 25 years of service to the community and currently has 22,000 volunteers across the state of Victoria.

“We hope that by introducing children to NHW at an early age, we may be able to encourage them to participate in the NHW scheme and become future crime preventers,” Mr Hastings said.

More details as I can find them.

When the Society of the Midnight Wanderers was formally announced in early 2008, the original idea w

When the Society of the Midnight Wanderers was formally announced in early 2008, the original idea was to merely organize writers from all over the writing spectrum and the world, into a group so that we may focus our efforts of quality writing in all of its forms. After the construction of the ever-growing and popular MW blog, we decided to formalize this group with an online vehicle more suited to a singular purpose: and that is literary excellence.

This magazine will be devoted to promoting various genres by showcasing invited authors to craft a project based on a particular theme. One issue may deal with family; and, we may ask humor writers to submit articles geared toward life with relatives or children. Journalistic pieces may surface about the apparent degeneration of the nuclear family, or the advantages of an extended family. We may recognize a current social topic or a personal theme such as coping with the loss of a loved one.

Writers of poetry, fiction, essays, and opinion articles can all tackle themes of such universal nature because we practice the art of written communication. This society has the advantage of being able to use the vast resources, which is its membership, to request such material. There will be works published by the founders as well, and we will continue to put forward our finest efforts.

This introductory issue is devoted to those writers who seek publication outside the traditional means of brick and mortar, paper and ink venues via the use of blogs and other internet apparatus. They are as valid a voice as any “published” author who sits at a table autographing their books. The goal for all members is to continue to seek similar notoriety, yet maintain their integrity by striving for literary excellence in an often hostile and critical blogging environment.

Their work will be featured here, and readers will come to know the talent first recognized with the symbolic Raven Emblem which is now the official badge of the Society. Look for our completed magazine in the coming months with featured articles and thematic elements unique to the writing styles and efforts of all the members of The Society of the Midnight Wanderers.

After having read that horrid story in the Orange County paper in which the journalist failed to do

After having read that horrid story in the Orange County paper in which the journalist failed to do his homework and mistakenly gave the impression that "Baby Blues" and Postpartum Psychosis are the same thing, my mind has been working to come up with a way to recognize the journalists that DO their homework and indeed pay postpartum depression tragedies with the respect and compassion that they deserve.

I finally came up with the term and graphic to go with it. The badge is simple but my hope is that it will be "worn" with honor by journalists who have shown their true integrity, compassion, and knowledge when they report on any story related to postpartum mood disorders.

If you come across any journalists (or if you are one) who have reported on a PMD story and done so in the manner set forth above, please submit the story and journalist's name for consideration to sharing.the.ppd.journey (at) gmail.com with GRACE AWARDS as the Subject line.

The first journalist I would like to honor is Anna Velasco for her story, "Shining A Light after Tragedy," written regarding the Jenny's Light Foundation I posted about yesterday. Ms. Velasco showed a tremendous amount of integrity, compassion, and knowledge in her writing of the story as well as highlighted her talent for focusing on the positive in light of such a tragedy. Thank You, Ms. Velasco. Wear your badge with honor!

If this is ok, I will print it out on colour paper and paste it to a nice board with a safety pin at the back. The board can be cut into shapes that you want. If we don't have time, it will be just square or rectangular. It will be printed in black and white on colour paper unless somebody has colour printer.

Shaquille O’Neal will lose his special deputy’s badge in Maricopa County because of language

Shaquille O’Neal will lose his special deputy’s badge in Maricopa County because of language he used in a rap video that mocks former team mate Kobe Bryant.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the Phoenix Suns center’s use of a racially derogatory word and other foul language left him no choice. Arpaio made Shaq a special deputy in 2006 and promoted him to colonel of his largely ceremonial posse later that year.

“I want his two badges back,” Arpaio told The Associated Press on Tuesday. “Because if any one of my deputies did something like this, they’re fired. I don’t condone this type of racial conduct.”

Shaq was seen in a video posted on the celebrity news and gossip Web site TMZ.com rapping that “Kobe couldn’t do without me.” O’Neal skewers the Lakers’ star, with whom he won three straight NBA titles from 2000-2002 while with Los Angeles, for not being able to win a championship without him.

“I was freestyling. That’s all. It was all done in fun. Nothing serious whatsoever,” O’Neal told ESPN.com Monday. A call to the Suns on Tuesday seeking comment from O’Neal was referred to his public relations firm, which didn’t immediately respond.

Arpaio, who describes himself as “America’s Toughest Sheriff” and is best known for feeding jail inmates green bologna, clothing them in pink underwear, and making them work on chain gangs, said he didn’t expect his actions would teach Shaq a lesson. But he hoped he learns that as a role model who wants to someday be a full-time sheriff, he needs to know his words matter.

“Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I don’t think that either conduct should be out there publicly, even if media wasn’t there,” Arpaio said.

O’Neal previously served as a reserve officer with the Miami Beach Police Department while playing for the Miami Heat. He also volunteered with the Tempe Police Department after being traded to the Suns in February.

I was thinking of drawing a heart shape on a kind of colourful board which can be bought from stationery shop. At the back we can paste a safety pin using a tape so that we can pin it on our shirt/blouse. In front we write the word DJ3CG Fellowship has its privileges.

But we need to write the words (nice fanciful fonts) on a piece of paper and cut the wordings and use colourful pens to trace the wordings onto the heart shape.

Simple and easy to do. But we need someone who can write nice fancy words on a paper. What do you all think?

Objectives: Beat the computer at least once in Castlewars

You can win one of two ways. Get the enemy castle (not the fence, fence doesn't matter) to 0 or get your own castle (again, fence doesn't matter) to 100.

The game concept is rather easy. Play cards that give you bonuses to things and sometimes negative effects to the other player. For this one, start the game on the easiest difficulty. For your strategy this game is going to be simple. Here's the priority, from most important to least important, of the cards you're going to play. (Note: Keep in mind that some user interaction is involved. For example, if the enemy castle is at 10 with no fence and you have an attack card that you can play that will do 32 damage, don't play the +Castle card even though it's higher in priority). Heres the stategy:

o. +Castle (trying to win by getting to 100 and surviving attacks)
o. Attack (Greater than 12), Fence (Greater than 12)
o. +Builders, Soldiers, Magic (for increased production every turn)
o. Transfer Enemy Stocks (they lose some you win some)
o. -Enemy Bricks, Weapons, Crystals, Stocks (they can't do as much overall)
o. Attack (Less than 12)
o. +Bricks, Weapons, Crystals
o. +Fence (Less than 12)

Good luck, I haven't lost to the computer yet.

This game is a top-down shooter. I found this game really easy (but then again, secretly, this is my favorite game type, don't tell anyone). Here's some tips.

1) Dodge, dip, duck, dive and dodge. You get this badge if you complete the stages, not if you get a certain score or how many planes you shoot down. Therefore, NOT getting hit (although such a simple concept) is your top priority. Also keep in mind that not dying means you won't lose any of the powerups you've gained. Make shooting and killing your second priority.

2) Since this walkthrough is based on getting the badge, I'm going to tell you the easiest way. There's powerups that sometimes bounce around the screen after you kill enemies. Keep in mind these powerups stack, which means once you pick up the yellow one (see immediately below), ONLY pick up the yellow one everytime you see it. The ones you want are:

o 3 Yellow Lines

o Either Red Missile or Squiggly Horizontal Line. The red missiles are easy to use, just mouse over an enemy while you're shooting and the missiles will go towards that enemy. The squiggly horizontal line is a shield. Draw a line around yourself and a shield will appear, keep holding down the mouse button to shoot. If you click again the shield will disappear, or it'll just run out after a certain amount of time.

o Triangle-shaped Thing with a B. This is an extra bomb, bombs are used with the spacebar. Very handy.

o Red pill. Gives you some health back.

o Blue pill. Restores some of your power.

That's about all I can give you, good luck!

Objectives:
1) Reach the boss on stage 4 – This must be done in - Music in Motion -
2) Survive 500

Objectives:

1) Reach the boss on stage 4 – This must be done in - Music in Motion -

2) Survive 500 Frames – This must be done in "Elephant Rave." It should take about 15 seconds.

First up is Music in Motion. This game is rather simple, the only problem I had was with the final boss at the end because I had no idea what to do. There's no real point in telling you what to do in this game because it's rather simple, short, and straightforward. Here's some tips however: For the first level, all you want to do is run to the right and jump constantly. Yes, that's it. It's all based on luck as to whether you get caught in the gaps or not. Don't worry, everytime you complete a level you get 3 extra lives, so it's no biggie if you get caught once or twice. For the Second level, blocks will fall down from the sky. The easiest way to do this one is to try and stay in the middle as much as you can and watch the order that the blocks fall. They "blink out" in order that they fell so you can kind of get a judgment as to where you're going to run to. There's not much else help I can offer on this one. For the Third level, simply stand still until you see light start to emit under your feet and either go left or right a couple steps to get out of the way. Repeat. Or, if that's too boring, you can simply run in one direction constantly jumping, which I found didn't work out too badly for me. The Fourth level, the boss zone. Just by getting here you should've finished the first objective of that card, but dont check now. Keep going and get that badge at the same time. For the boss, pick a side, left or right and go to the edge. I'd try and stay away from the edge about a character length because I had my guy fall through the ground once. Once you're at the edge, stay there. The boss will fire these little red waves at you, simply jump over them when they approach. When the boss starts to get really close to you, do a running jump over his head and go to the other wall. Eventually the music will slow down immensely and the boss will turn a pink'ish color. This is the time when you jump onto him. He's going to fire little straight red missiles out of his hand from now on. These are easily avoided by standing on the ground. So now repeat the strategy for when you first met him being sure to jump over the waves but be on the ground when the missiles shoot out. The music will stop, jump on him again. Repeat the strategy afterwards until the music stops again and hit him one more time. Congratulations! You've gained part of a card and a complete badge in about 5 minutes.

Next is Elephant Rave. This game is, uh...dumb. There's no strategy I can really offer you for this one except that I had the best luck standing next to one of the walls, watching the top of the screen until the light beam appeared above me and then moving out of the way. About halfway through the "game" a small block will come from (in my case always the left side) and run across the ground. You'll have to jump over this. I think that block comes about 4, maybe 5 times I don't remember. Keep trying to do it (until you think you might suffer from Epilepsy) and you'll get it. I think it took me 3 tries. If you can do it for 45 seconds, you'll also gain the badge. (P.S. - I hated this game.)

You'll have gained the "When Techno Music Attacks! Challenge" Card and the "Musical Destruction Badge", as well as the "Life, Love, Understanding Badge"

Answer: Yah! Sure you can get. Just go here for twitter badge and took your desired blogging platform. Copy the code and paste the javascript code in your desired place. However, some site don't support javascript, so you can use rss feed reader to get the updates of twitter.com. It's bit tricky and if you're on wordpress.com, you can do fun through rss features.

Direct Paste The Codes & Change a user name:

Associated Content recently sponsored a media contest for Internet Week New York where anyone could submit text, video, or audio content. The theme of the contest was "What's Next" where content producers look at trends one year from now and describe how the Internet will serve online consumers for these trends.

Party Mama Irene and Party Mama Aly submitted their original contest articles about What's Next for the Internet one year from now. The grand prize for the Associated Content Internet Week New York contest is $5,000. The winner will be announced on June 10, 2008.

Good luck to all the Associated Content social media producers who submitted contest articles, video, or audio. Below are links to the Associated Content Internet Week New York contest articles submitted by Party Mama Irene and Party Mama Aly:
