# cd lib/avast4workstation/share/avast/desktop
# ./install-desktop-entries.sh install

# cd lib/avast4workstation/share/avast/desktop passar o comando:
# ./install-desktop-entries.sh uninstall

e remova você mesmo manualmente o diretório onde você o descompactou.

Rodando o Programa

Eh, lately I keep getting spam emails from random emails like admin@viagra.com or something (always from the same @viagra.com!!). Lucky for me, I don't even read them so they don't really affect me much. o_o
.

But today, the topic is on WAR!!
.

No, this isn't Sparta. Not 300, either. But like the movie (and no, I haven't watched the movie), this is a ridiculous war. And guess what? I'm victorious!!
.

And so, let me retell my battle stories to all who're willing to listen. xP
.

(Though actually I meant to write this like 2 months ago, and I got lazy until today. o_o)

.

Part 1: And the Symptoms Began...

.

.

Well, here's the story.
.

I'm using Windows XP SP2. Not Vista, thank goodness.
.

I've C: and D: drives (Program Files are in D: drive).
.

I use Avast! antivirus, as you can see here.
.

In the C: and D: directories, there are autorun files that triggers Avast's alert (as in the picture) if I double click the drives to access from My Computer. Wonderful.
.

No matter what you do to the file (move to chest, delete, etc), it keeps coming back.
.

Persistent, right?
.

IT'S TIME FOR WAR!!11!1!

.

Part 2: HIDDEN FILES! SHOW YOURSELVES!!

.

First thing, what I normally do is enable Show Hidden Files and Show System Files under Folder Options in order to catch the autorun files in my C: and D: drives, so that I could fry them before I fry the actual virus.
.

And so, Browser > Tools > Folder Options > View.
.

Check Show Hidden Files and uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files. OK.
.

Done.
.

But hey, I still don't see the semitransparent files in either C: or D: drives?!
.

Round 2. Browser > Tools > Folder Options > View.
.

What the?! Hide Hidden Files and Hide Protected Operating System Files became checked again!!
.

Repeat, repeat, and repeat.
.

Still the same story.
.

Is there some hidden force messing about with my comp?! Darn it.
.

Deciding to leave the virus for a while longer, I poked Uncle Google in search of a way to enable my Show Hidden Files and stuff again. Usually, a lot of sites aren't very useful when it comes to these, but then I found a particular website (link here) that has lots of scripts to help with Windows stuff.
.

And one of them is the Show Hidden Files script, which forces the Folder Options to change Show Hidden Files to be checked.
.

Whee.
.

It worked for a while... and then went back to its previous settings so I can't find the hidden autorun files.

Bleh.
.

Another place, a forum topic, suggested using Regedit to force the Show Hidden Files to be checked, which is just to change the CheckedValue from 0 to 1.
.

Close Regedit.
.

Open Regedit.
.

Lo and behold!!
.

Still can't see hidden files.

.

.

Note: Oh, darn, the picture's too long. Click on this link to view the whole picture.
.

Eh, forget that for a while. Lemme kill the virus first.

.

Part 3: UNCLE GOOGLE! HELP!!!

.

Yep, as with all the malware problems I've had in the past (problems as in, I couldn't remove it on my own), first I consult dear old Uncle Google. After all, I don't really like registering on tech forums to bug people for help before I do all the things I could, first.
.

Search results: 6510. Whoa.
.

The first few are, as usual, some "HELP I GOT WIN32 ROOTKIT-GEN [RTK]!!!!1!!1!!" topics from various forums. Consulting these many topics, I began outlining and implementing my war strategy.
.

Hey, they did help me... well, for other malware problems in the past. o_o
.

Oh, and you know what?
.

klif.sys is a file generated by Kaspersky antivirus... BUT I'VE NEVER HAD KASPERSKY IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!
.

It's getting confusing. T_T

.

Part 4: VIRUSTOTAL! HELP!!!

.

Virus Total is a website where you can upload a file and get it scanned (for free!) with some 30+ antivirus software and tell you the results. For example, if you fine a funky looking file sitting happily in your system32 folder and your antivirus didn't complain, you could get it scanned at this place without getting new software installed!
.

Of course, it doesn't help with removing the files, so... o_o
.

This site was recommended in a few of the "HELP I GOT WIN32 ROOTKIT-GEN [RTK]!!!!1!!1!!" forum topics, and I found it's a good place to start determining whether the file's a false positive or really infected. And so, I uploaded the aforementioned file (and Avast! didn't cease or desist and kept throwing me more of the "ZOMG ROOTKIT ALERT!!" message).
.

Guess what? Virus Total said that 6 out of 32 antivirus programs say it's a malware.
.

Cool.
.

Of course, once I found out it's a malware, I tried removing it manually (i.e. by going to the folder and hitting delete). But Avast didn't stop complaining, so...
.

Skirmish lost.
.

.

Part 5: SOPHOS ANTI-ROOTKIT! HELP!!!

.

One of the help forum topics said to look for anti-rootkit tools to remove rootkits. Whee, something that sounds like it works.
.

Consulting Uncle Google again (he never tires of me, does he?), I picked the first result from the list, which was Sophos Anti-Rootkit. Hey, the first on the list gotta be good, right?
.

But this strategy failed, because Sophos Anti-Rootkit never did find any rootkit on the comp. And, upon searching the file using the Windows folder search, I couldn't find the file again.
.

What the heck?!
.

Darn. Now I gotta find out exactly where it is again.
.

Skirmishes lost: 2.

.

Part 6: AVAST! HELP!!!

.

Notice how I've only said the "ZOMG ROOTKIT ALERT!!" message pops up randomly? I never said anything about a scan, did I?
.

Then, I began the time-consuming Avast scan while I poked Uncle Google a bit more.
.

Hey, guess what?
.

KLIF.SYS DIDN'T EVEN TURN UP ON THE AVAST SCAN!!11!1!!
.

But I did find loads of other things, which included:
.

Loads of Trojans on System Restore Files. Yikes! That gotta be the remains of the Trojan I fried from my sister's friend's pendrive some months ago, aren't they?
.

Loads of Rootkits on System Restore Files. Wut? Where'd that come from?!
.

Some Rootkits on C:\ and D:\ folders. Were those the autorun files I tried to fry?
.

It was a grand total of 16 infections!! That's the most in years. o_o
.

But since the scan didn't catch the pesky little virus...
.

Skirmishes lost: 3.
.

.

Part 7: REBOOT, AVAST BOOT-TIME SCAN! HELP!!!

.

When some of the guys on the forums asked for "I GOT WIN32 ROOTKIT-GEN [RTK]!!!!1!!1!!" help, I noticed that some of the files were (like some of my infections) System Restore files. The people who tried to help said to disable System restore, restart, and reenable System Restore.
.

Yep, I disabled System Restore. And at the same time, I scheduled a boot-time Avast! scan.
.

Then, I cleaned my temporary files. (1422 temp files ZOMG!)
.

Muahaha, you gotta be fried now, virus!!
.

And I hit restart.
.

...3 hours later, the system rebooted, and, somehow, the rootkit is still there. Bleh.
.

Skirmishes lost: 4.

.

Part 8: TECH FORUMS! HELP!!!

.

Yep, I do get desperate after 3 days. So I went on some forums and asked for help, telling them what I did so far.
.

So I installed HijackThis (a program that scans your comp and saves a log file of running registries and process) and posted the log file to show the forum guys.
.

Then take a look at the red line a guy helped me identify:
.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ZoneAlarm Client] "D:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [avast!] D:\PROGRA~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\ashDisp.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MsnMsgr] "C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe" /background
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [kamsoft] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ckvo.exe
.

CKVO IS A MALWARE AS WELL!!!
.

Holy macaroni. Is there no end to my woes in this war?
.

Running numerous searches using Window's folder search enabled me to locate ckvo.exe and ckv0.dll in the system32 folder. Upon deleting them manually (Avast doesn't complain about them, somehow), the files disappear... and eventually come back.
.

ZOMGWTFBBQ!!!11!!!!1!
.

Skirmishes lost: 5.

.

Part 9: MALWAREBYTES! HELP!!!

.

Then there's this other guy who came and offered help in the forums. He gave a list of 3 or 4 anti-rootkit software, but none of them found any rootkit.
.

Weird?
.

Then he suggested Super Anti-Spyware and MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware, in hopes of finding whatever it was that causes the barrage of problems in my comp.
.

Super Anti-Spyware found nothing but tracking cookies (normal stuff).
.

MalwareBytes, on the other hand...
.

IT SHOWED THE ROAD TO VICTORY IN THIS LONG WAR!!
.

Registry Data Items Infected:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL\CheckedValue
(Hijack.System.Hidden) -> Bad: (0) Good: (1) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
.

Oh yeah! It finally found the registry entry that blocked me from seeing hidden files!!
.

Victory is near. xP
.

Skirmishes won: 1.

.

Part 10: And the Road to Victory!!

.

Browser > Tools > Folder Options > View.
.

Check Show Hidden Files and uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files. OK.
.

Repeat.
.

Browser > Tools > Folder Options > View.
.

LO AND BEHOLD!! SHOW HIDDEN FILES STAYED CHECKED AND HIDE SYSTEM FILES STAYED UNCHECKED!!
.

Holy yeah. Clicking OK on Folder Options has never felt better.
.

Since I'm finally able to see hidden and system files, I see loads and loads of familiar names in the C: and D: drives. THOSE ARE THE FILES THE ALERT KEEPS POPPING UP FOR BUT IN THE WRONG PLACE!!
.

Darn. All this wild goose chase all because of a registry entry that doesn't let me see hidden system files. T_T
.

But hey, it's finally over, right? After deleting all the autorun and stuff (and left the important system files alone), no more rootkit problems in my comp!!
.

So, in conclusion?
.

Use MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware. It helps to kill infected registries. xP
.

Note: After some time of deleting that one infected registry, I had some slight network problems on my computer and not my siblings' computers. Upon reading some stuff from Google search, apparently messing with your registry messes up your Internet connection. However, there's a solution; there's one site (can't remember which) that has something called a WinSock Fix script (just a script file). Upon using that, my network is fixed. So just a heads up. =D
.

And all is well until now!

.

Scansione veloce

Euristica avanzata

Achitettura snella e leggera

Implementazione a Servizi

ESET NOD32 Antivirus 2.7 e 3.0 (ENG) (Antivirus, Anti spyware e rootkit)

ESET Smart Security 3.0 (Antivirus + Filrevall+ Antispam) non venduta ancora in Italia

Mcafee Plus (Antivirus + Filrevall+ Antispam)

This weekend an unfortunate thing happened. My boyfriend’s little sister had her Yahoo Mail

This weekend an unfortunate thing happened. My boyfriend's little sister had her Yahoo Mail account hacked after some Cyber-Bullying. The unfortunate outcome of this was that they not only used her credit card based on information stored on her Yahoo Account, but also deleted and hacked into some of her other accounts that housed images, email, and other personal effects.

After I had her call Yahoo Customer Service and fix the account, she had to do some legal reparative work and enlisted me to do some cyber fixing for her.

I came over and brought with me my laptop and my toolkit. The toolkit is really just a thumbdrive that has a bunch of programs that I use to clean up messes just like this.

So here is what I did:

Since we didn't know if the attack was based through the email system solely or through an attack on the computer I installed a few programs to make sure

The first was avast antivirus this is a free and very powerful antivirus program that works better than Norton or McAffe (especially when the coverage for these paid providers lapses)

Next I installed Malwarebytes Anit-Malware program.

The first thing to determine was if there was some kind of trojan or keylogger on the computer. There wasn't thankfully. Then I had to get the antivirus going. I found two viruses in items she had downloaded.

While the scans were running, I educated her on the finer points of password creation and more than one email account. We changed all of her online account information and edited out the personal items from social networking sites, like date of birth. She changed all of her passwords to safer ones and separated the registration emails out to two accounts. One account for junk mail and one for financial data. We decided to use Gmail for the official account and keep Yahoo for her social networking and other non financial accounts. The point of separating is to limit the knowledge to hackers that she had a different account.

Another important change I had make was to change the secret questions and maiden names to false ones so that people who hunt accounts for this information don't know offhand what to put. This is especially important for secret questions because in the case of Yahoo, if you know three main pieces of information about a person you can hack their email account really quickly. I showed her how this was done.

Her information is safer now, but with the rise in ID theft and malicious hacking done out of retaliation, no one's data is really safe.

What do we do when our information is so out there on the web. I am part of a ton of Social Networks and can be found with a quick google search. I know I change my passwords about twice a year, and try to limit what I sign up for with my main email account, but that is still no guarantee.

Here are the takeaways from this:

Use multiple email accounts.

Use safe passwords utilizing upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols.

Change passwords often

Know where finianical data is stored and never EVER store data in emails or in documents that can be seen online

Keep a viable copy of antivirus software on your computer at all times

Use a Malware tracker program to monitor what's installed

Read through all installers and uncheck any additional software you don't need.

Don't use real data for secret words and never use your mothers maiden name. It's just a dumb question to ask now that people are searchable online

Don't put too much information on your account. Limit what you tell people about yourself.

If there are options to privatize information or limit viewership sites use them. Unless you want information accessible, don't give hackers an "in"

Hope this helps someone out there.

Most business owners assume that the computers that they have paid for come with anti-virus software installed. After all, why wouldn't they? Some computers do, but most come with a trial version which stops working after 60 or 90 days. Then, strange things start to happen. Sally in accounting begins to have extended outages with her computer. Bob in marketing can't figure out why his computer won't start up. The computers now have viruses and the costs of lost productivity begin to climb sky high.

I have worked with all the main brands--Norton, McAffee, etc., but I have found that these programs use a lot of resources on the computer and are overly complicated. Unless you have a dedicated IT team to manage this process for you, I have found that Avast's product line is leaner and meaner and works without interupting your work. Plus, Avast has a great home version which is free and just as good as the commercial product. Check out the product line at the link:

I should point out some facts before you jump to conclusion:

An antivirus is never perfect. If a virus is not defined in the virus-definition database, it's unlikely for the program to detect it.

Sometimes adware/spyware scanners (malwarebytes, combofix) work better than an antivirus program when it comes to catching adwares or spywares.

Everyone conducts their virus tests differently, therefore you see slightly different results. But the following table gives you a pretty good idea.

Test results tend to vary annually, or even monthly - sometimes you see a product that performs good, but next time may be a little bit different (better or worse).

The latest anti-virus test results - http://www.virusbtn.com/news/2008/09_02:

Every computer connected to internet needs good antivirus software to protect it from virus attack,

Every computer connected to internet needs good antivirus software to protect it from virus attack, hacking and personal information stealing. This is particularly more useful on Windows as most of the viruses are coded to work on Windows.

I have tried commercial antivirus software such as Norton and McAfee, even though they are good at doing there job I find them bulky in terms of resource requirements. Whenever on access scan is enabled, I have observed that they make your computer little slow. Apart from that you need to pay a lot to buy and maintain these commercial antivirus software.

I wanted a better choice in terms of resource usages and cost and my search finally ended on avast Home Edition. This is truly "install and forget" antivirus with acceptable resource requirement without any compromise on quality and security. avast is free for home users for non-commercial use. Just download the software from avast website, complete the registration form and install the software with registration key supplied by avast and you are done.

Its not enough to install the antivirus software but its equally important to keep it up-to-date to ensure complete protection. avast makes this job much easier by automating this process completely. As soon as you connect to internet avast checks for the new virus definition files, software updates and download and install them without any user intervention. Yes, that's true, avast updates software as well along with virus database as long as your registration is valid. You don't have to re-register to install an updated version of avast.

Apart form common features like On Access Scan, On Demand Scan, Shell Integration avast protects your computers from Spyware, Virus spreading through Email, IM and P2P network. One unique feature of avast is that it can monitor and filter the HTTP traffic as well to give you complete freedom while browsing.

Some of the key features of avast Home Edition:

Anti-spyware built-in

Anti-rootkit built-in

Strong self-protection

Antivirus kernel

Simple User Interface

Standard resident protection

P2P and IM Shields

Network Shield

Web Shield

Automatic updates

Virus Chest

System Integration

Integrated avast! Virus Cleaner

Support for 64-bit Windows

Internationalization

And last but not least is free does not mean that there is no support, they have very detailed installation and user guide and a dedicated forum to solve user issues.

The Catch Is: You need to re-register to keep avast updated once in a year but I feel that is reasonable expectation for such a good quality software. I am using it since 2 and Half years now and i can summarize this this post by saying that I am delighted with its performance and quality.

For commercial usages they offer avast! 4 Professional Edition.

All Home Edition users, please check the comparison between Home Edition and Professional Edition Here and you will find that you are getting the same protection as Professional Edition

Seorang teman menanyakan gimana cara mengakses avast!

Seorang teman menanyakan gimana cara mengakses avast!

" your_computer_name: ~$ cd /usr/lib/avast4workstation/share/avast/desktop "

" your_computer_name: ~$ sudo ./install-desktop-entries.sh install "

I have a feeling that many people who come across this post will benefit greatly! I was recently infected by very nasty looking and stubborn Adware that flashes a red Warning Sign as your Desktop Background! This nasty message reads like this:

“WARNING! Spyware detected on your computer! Install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean your computer.
Warning! Win32/Adware.Virtumonde
Warning! Win32/privacyremover.M64.”

This looks scary enough when this message has replaced your desktop picture or background! Usually I was able to kill most bugs and adwares (that other major free softwares failed to remove) with this very effective yet simple software called SmitfraudFIX. (If you download this, just make sure to run it in Safe mode otherwise it might change a few settings, nothing harmful though)

Anyhow, I spent whole Saturday searching for softwares and actually ended up buying one! I bought Malwarebytes which is actually free! Paying for it just gives you free extras (which are useful though) but with the Free Version you can both search and remove all Malwares on your computer.

I just wish to give you 3 softwares that will make your computer almost totally bug free and protected in future. You will notice that your computer runs a lot faster and internet speed is noticeably increased! So, here are 3 FREE steps to a happy, healthy and protected computer.

1.) Download Avast anti Virus program from Download.com-- Another free anti-virus program is AVG but I have used Avast for over a year now and it is absolutely wonderful. It not only scans and removes bugs but also provides real time live protection. Almost every day, while surfing the internet it flashes warning signals for me and asks me to abort or delete some bug it has found. This is indispensable. Download it and run it once, restart and let it run again (second time) if it wants to, after your computer boots. In case you have a paid anti virus installed you may skip this but still I highly recommend it. Avast, in my opinion much better than many paid anti Virus programs!

2.) Download Spybot- Search and Destroy 1.6 from Download.com-- I always had reservations about free anti- Spyware softwares as I think they're not effective enough. But today, as I downloaded and ran this it just surprised me by the number of bugs it searched and destroyed, being true to its name. And my computer ran a lot faster after I'd done that. After you're done with step 1, as with Avast, run it and then delete all the bugs it has scanned. Then on prompt restart your computer and let it run again as your computer boots. (This might take upto one hour!) But once your computer comes to life it will be a very happy, healthy and agile machine. Spybot may run everytime you start your computer but you can skip this anytime. Just let it run maybe once a week or fortnight for a great maintainence.

But guess what? After running SmitfraudFix and these two great programs I still could not get rid of the Adware I had on my computer. Most sites refer to as only Scareware that only sends you into panic to buy some other rogue anti-Spyware program. Others said that this particular Aware gets nastier with time and starts pop ups, key loggers (tracks whatever you type!) etc. So, I thought of buying an Anti- Spyware. Even the best Anti- Spywares are not 100% effective and they often don't fix new bugs. I read some reviews of Malwarebytes that were very good. Some people swore that it fixed bugs that no other program could! So, I bought it (but later realized it would do the main job even for free!) But I guess for a program as good as this EVERYONE should buy it and support this wonderful project. So, anyway here is the third step.

3.) Download Malwarebyte's Anti- Malware software from Download.com-- AND YES! It works like a charm. It also takes a lot less time than other softwares. But make sure you do a FULL SCAN and not just the QUICK Scan. It fixed my bug, plus about 30 odd others and yet some other fake alerts etc. Just awesome.

So, again, go through these step 1, 2 and 3 by running these programs in chronological order and you bet you will come out a much happier person. Plus, Avast and Spybot provide real time protection which means malicious bugs will be prevented from entering your machine. Malwarebytes also provides live protection but I guess that's only for paid version.

Oh and yes, I might mention that you must keep your firewall ON. I have XP and to check if you have your firewall on, Go to control panet, then ''Security Center'' and then the screen will tell you if your firewall is on or not. If it's not, you know what to do!

Good luck and please give your feedback in comments section to let me know if it solved your particular problem or just made your computer faster. Also, post comment on anything that you think novices like me or others can benefit from.

Cheers!
