Political correctness would never work because I find the philosophy offensive. Thats right, I honestly find it offensive. That goes to prove it would never work; if a philosophy, or practice's whole goal is to not offend anyone, at anytime, and that same practice offends some, then the whole idea is struck down completely. Not a very strong idea if you ask me. Is the practice of not offending people(when possible) good? Yes, its great, but when you go overboard with it, it becomes an obstacle of free speech. When I say free speech I don't mean you should be able to say anything you want without any consequences at all. I believe their should be freedom of speech as long as your not imposing on the rights of others. I.e say your at the local Mc donald's drive thru, and you take forever ordering while the driver behind you starts to get more, and more angry. If freedom of speech was absolute, then that driver could walk up to your window and tell you that since you pissed him off he's going to rape your child. As long as he never actually did that, it would be completely legal to express that thought(in a politically correct society). That's why there are boundaries to this freedom. When that driver told you that, he is imposing on your personal rights. Firstly he is communicating threats, and secondly he is using words that you find offensive in the order he placed them. If he came up to your window and said "my daughter was kidnapped and raped, keep a good eye on your child." You wouldn't find that offensive. Why? Because he wasn't directing a vulgar threat towards your child. Sentence structure alone can cause an offense.

Are there absolutes? Some would say "No, I decide what is right and wrong,according to what I believe." but many would say, "Yes, there have to be absolutes,otherwise anything goes." If you were among those that don't believe in absolutes maybe you should think again. Do you believe I should be allowed to kill you without any consequences? Well you must, because if there are no absolutes then everyone decides what is right and wrong according to their own beliefs. So it would be ok for the guy in the airplane to kill the pilot and fly the plane into a building because there are no absolutes, and he is doing what he feels is right. Who are you to tell him that your absolutes are right, and his are wrong? You would be suggesting that you are a more superior being, and that would certainly be politically incorrect, because if you are superior than that would mean someone else is inferior(obviously). When you really study "political correctness" you will find that it takes either a very ignorant, or naive individual to really believe it.

What is the unforgivable sin(uh-oh, i said sin, politically incorrect) of pious, politically correct individuals? Intolerance. You must be totally tolerant of anything, and everything, which is completely asinine. It is impossible to be totally tolerant of everything, it just doesn't make sense in any way, shape, or form. How could you be tolerant of everything if there are intolerant people? Are you supposed to do away with the intolerant people? Who's to say that's ok? The founder of the philosophy? That would mean he was some sort of god to be worshiped, and that once again goes against the entire idea. It's a major flaw in the "system". Looking at political correctness is like "The Butterfly Effect" the cover looks really cool, but when you watch the movie it's completely flawed, and riveted with plot holes. That doesn't mean it didn't have some cool ideas, or scenes but as a whole it just doesn't work.

Well it's here(unofficially), but at least I have the trailer in High Definition goodness for your viewing pleasure. Evidently the trailer leaked May 12th(monday) and it is unofficial as of now. The release date is July 25th(It's probably going to change ).The trailer looks decent, my only suggestion would be: change the name? Muchas cosas han pasado. Cada cumpleaños ha pasado con más pena que gloria. Y para ser bien honestos, algo de culpa también tengo en el asunto.

Pero por sobretodo, este dia, en el que lo único que pido es pasar un rato con mi familia, que parezcamos "normal, unidos y felices" por unas cuantas horas, es algo que por este aniversario siquiera va a suceder.

Gracias a esas "extrañas circunstancias de la vida" (léase con todas sus letras, una I-R-O-N-I-A), los planes para hoy se vieron abruptamente interrumpidos por un cambio de turno de la mañana a la tarde; desde línea 1 a línea 5; desde la tranquilidad, al alboroto de soportar a los niñitos que irán a "ver" el partido de la UC v/s CC; de tener un cumpleaños normal y sin grandes sorpresas, a no tener nada.

Insisto en algo: Igual creo que me lo merezco. Pero no por ello deja de ser feo y latoso.

Bueno, por lo menos para mencionarlo y desahogarme con mi diario semi-público, dejo esta constancia. Espero de todo corazón, estimado lector, que me perdones no por colocar buenas noticias. Y no por que no quiera, sino por que no han pasado muchas.

Te veo en una próxima oportunidad con la esperanza, ojalá, de contar una buena nueva que venga a cambiar en parte el lugubre escenario en el que estoy por estos días.

A little precursor first

I currently live with one of my best friends.  Her name is Lauren and we have a blast together.  (In future blogs you will learn more about her and how she is my favorite enabler of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)  I digress…..

This past weekend she and I were invited to her boyfriends senior art show at a little gallery in her hometown.  So we packed for the weekend and stayed at her parents place.  Now she and her boyfriend are the only two out of her family that know I’m gay, though her parents might suspect I have homosexual tendencies.  “I think she might be startin’ to suspect something…who…your wife!” (Can anyone tell me what movie that quotes from…that last sentence reminded me of this quote hahahaha) Anyhoo, we go and have a great time and on Sunday we go over to visit her Grandparents.  I have met her Grandparents before and we seemed to hit it off.  We walk in and I greet them.  At that point in time I think that they may or may not remember who I am because they are a little older and it had been some time since we had met.  But, her Grandfather took my hand and greeted me warmly suggesting, to me, that he remember who I was.  As soon as he lets go of my hand he says, “So…I heard about your coming out party…” 

Now let me preface this by saying I am only out to several of my friends in Erie.  I am selective at the moment of coming out to everyone at one time…this includes family members of my roommate.

As soon as the words leave his mouth I am shocked, blood is rushing in my ears, my heart is in my throat and I can physically feel myself pale in front of Laurens’s Grandfather.  I didn’t know what to say.  Several thoughts pass quickly, One being I’d never thought my roommate would tell her Grandparents that she was rooming with a gay man, second, if she didn’t tell them how does he know, thirdly, where can I pass out in the kitchen without harming myself or Lauren’s Grandparents.

It was like a scene from a movie.

Lauren, who had been out of the room when all this went on, notices me staring at her shocked and confused.  I then say, “Whaaa….excuse me…” in a breathy, I might pass out because you just outted me, voice.  It would be at this point Lauren realized her Grandfather’s mistake and corrected him.  Here he thought I was Lauren’s boyfriend and “my coming out party” was really “my” senior art show.  Needless to say, I am not Lauren’s boyfriend nor did I have a senior art show this weekend…as for a coming out party…that is one party I wasn’t invited to!

Everything worked out in the end but it was a really funny moment that Lauren’s Grandfather and I shared and he doesn’t even know it.

If you think my blog sux a$$, then tell me in a constructive manner. Just remember, use your words; they're there for a reason.

Some of you have suggested that I put up more pictures of myself among other things to, literally, illustrate what I'm talking about. I'm definitely down with putting up moAr pics of me cuz I do love me lol! However, my camera's being a tool and not the kind that's usable. I'll get back to this subject here in a bit.

In one of my comments, Groverfan suggested that I do blogs or have a section of my daily blog for my personal history. I think that this is a grate idea! I need to get it organized and it'll be up and running. Look forward to it!

Work today was boring again. They stuck me on paystation, which is the area that runs the self-checkouts. During the weekend, the whole place is packed and I'm kept busy. During the week, however, it's dead as hell with occasional spirts of customers. You also get a lot of people who don't know how to work the self-checkout and do stupid things. Things like trying to scan big-ass boxes, 24-packs of water, and flowers (my arch-nemesis at Wally World. Grr...).

There's also a very large amount of people who buy certain items that require me to ID them that are not booze and/or smokes. Items like super glue, spray paint, paint balls, Headshot energy shots, diet pills, male enhancement pills (I had two incidents, both were women buying the shit and boy were they embarrassed when I carded them!!), paint thinners, Tylenol, the list just goes on! I do agree with Wal-Mart in that the abuse of these products should be handled within the best of our ability. However, I think that it's also our responsibility to properly inform the customers that they will need to present their ID if they want to buy these products. We do it for booze and smokes so why not everything else we card for? I put that in the suggestion box and if my suggestion gets picked as the best, I get an extra $25 on my paycheck! Go me!!

I also got my mom an early Mother's Day present: 2 boxes of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda for the fridge and freezer. Sure it's not jewelry or flowers or a card, but I totally thought of her when I saw them. Happy Early Mother's Day, Mom! Due to the accident, she gets that day off so I guess the accident's not all bad.

Well, I'm gonna put my wash in the dryer (good-night, ladies!!) so I'll see ya when I look at ya! 'Night!

Once I left college and moved in with one of  my best friends from college (she knows that I am gay) I had made a promise to put myself “out there” to meet guys and find someone to spend some time with.  This had culminated in me mainly leaving my cell phone number scrawled on a napkin or receipt for the waiter that has just finished serving (along with a nice tip…horrid I know (don’t judge me there is nothing wrong with a nice tip to kind of sweeten the deal for a potential date….I sound like a heehaw…LOL))

So this past weekend I went out with my roommate and one of our mutual friends to an upscale lounge.  I was the designated driver so I ended up keeping my drinking at bay.  Once there our server turned out to be a cute gay man.  (I might only just be out of the closet but I know about picking out the gay ones….omg did I just write that).  In the end I found myself flirting to the best of my ability (due to the bar that separated us).  I struck up conversation attempted to ask him to come with me and my friends in a quest for Cell Block pizza (which by the way is the best in town!!!! Especially when you’ve had several boozy hours in a bar) Then I did it, I scribbled my number down on the back of a receipt and left it for him, then exited the bar quickly.

I am now approaching the end of day number two and I am waiting for a phone call from the waiter and all I can do is think; is this what gay dating, for me, has been reduced to? 

It sounds goofy but I have been to the gay bar(s) in Erie and it hasn’t been very successful.  When I am at all the regular haunts on State St. I feel fine having fun, dancing, drinking etc.  But as soon as I step into a gay bar I freeze up.  I suspect that it is because while being at the bars with my straight friends I am never on the “prowl” (not that I want to “prowl” anyways).  But being in a bar is a different dynamic and I find myself very lost in a sea of gay.  Plus, I am not looking for just a one night stand; I am looking for something longer and more fulfilling.  I feel that long and fulfilling is not necessarily the two words that I would link with a gay bar, or any other bar for that matter.  Thus I kinda ruled out the gay bar scene as a way for me to find someone.

So what do I do now that I have ruled out the bar scene for potential mates….I leave my phone number on bar napkins with potentially gay waiters (this posting is starting to go down hill and quickly hahahahaha)

I think the big point I am desperately trying to reach here is that we gays do not have much of dating community here.  I post this question to any gay man or woman in Erie reading this; does it seem like that without a/the gay bar(s) in Erie there aren’t many other places to meet people. (Which has led me, in fits of insanity, to leave my phone number sheepishly on bar napkins.)

So lets here it, what do you think.  What is the dating community like near you?  If you’re from Erie, do you have suggestions for me?  How did you meet your partner?  Let me know!

P.S. Sorry for the rambling blog, I am just a beginner.  I am trying my best here but it is hard blogging, keeping it short, interesting etc.!

Secondly, let me explain what has spurred my striking out into the world known as blogging.  I recently attended a small birthday celebration at the Plymouth Tavern for a friend’s 25^th birthday when I realized that I needed something more to do in life.  I signed my friends birthday card “Welcome to the 25 year old club” and it struck me…the only other person that was at the table at the party who was 25 was me…glup.  It got me thinking, what have I done with my life…with my degree’s I’ve earned from college etc.  I am single and don’t date much, my job is not what I went to college for etc. and somewhere in this mid-20’s crisis I was beginning to suffer I thought “I know I’ll blog,” because that’s what I needed to do. 

Blogging was going to answer all of my aforementioned questions, or at least I though so at the time.  So here I sit in another state of crisis wondering who in the world thought giving me a blank sheet of internet was a good idea.  Who will want to hear what I have to say or what neurosis I have to share?  To be quite honest it has me a little shaken up.  Part of me wants to just give up and close up the account and just piddle away doing the normal day to day activities that I have become accustom to but then there is the other side of me that wants to see what blogging is like.

Finally, I know this might sound cliché, but I am going to give blogging a try.  I will post on the usual dating, or lack there of, friends, different shenanigans and drunken messes I tend to get myself into.  I hope you enjoy it and perhaps I will answer some of those questions I have been worrying about recently.

Parmi les nouveaux chantiers de 2008, donc, celui de la réfection complète de la dalle de béton de l'A-13 sud, entre le pont Louis-Bisson et l'A-40, dans les arrondissements de Ville Saint-Laurent, et de Pierrefonds-Roxboro, à Montréal, est commencé depuis quelques jours à peine.  Mais déjà, les répercussions se font brutalement sentir, comme le montrent ces images de l'hélicoptère TVA, commentées par Maxime Landry.

Bien entendu, les lobbyistes de l'environnement diront que les gens n'ont qu'à laisser leur véhicule à la maison, et à prendre les transports en commun.  Ce serait une bonne idée, mais comme toutes leurs bonnes idées, elle le serait en théorie seulement.  Dans les faits, les services de transports en commun de la rive-nord ne pourraient pas, même s'ils le voudraient, desservir autant de gens.  Ce n'est pas une question de volonté, mais bien de capacité.  Les images nous le montrent bien; malgré que le train de banlieue parte maintenant de Saint-Jérôme, à chaque matin, et qu'il soit un véritable succès, la circulation refoulait, ce matin, jusqu'à... Mirabel!  Et après, on viendra me dire que le pont de l'A-25 est inutile.  Non seulement est-il nécessaire, mais il faudrait, au minimum, une traversée supplémentaire, dans l'ouest, entre la rive-nord, Laval, et Montréal.  Il faudrait aussi prolonger l'A-13 et l'A-19 vers le nord, afin d'aider un peu l'A-15, qui demeure le seul axe autoroutier à desservir une rive-nord de plus en plus peuplée.

Je sais que je me répète, mais le réseau routier supérieur est en retard d'au moins 25 ans dans son développement.  Et les 2,7 milliards$ que le MTQ entend investir cette année n'est qu'une infime partie des sommes qu'il faudra y injecter, et ce si l'on ne veut que le mettre à niveau de ce qu'il devrait être maintenant.  Il faudra donc prendre des décisions, et le plus tôt sera le mieux!
